Free roam in UC Free, Enemies never attack

Recommended Posts

Hello, its been many years since I last came to these forums back in the good old days.

I started playing UC free edition again, a fun old game, and I wonder if anyone who knows the game better would be able to answer a question of mine.

I found that in Roam and Explore scenario, no enemies attack me, with the exception of a pair of fighters which sometimes spawn at enemy stations when I enter a system. Nothing larger than a fighter will ever attack me, and usually only fighters that are spawned from the stations themselves, not from other ships. The game is still fun, but I like the challenge of having to defend myself from enemy attack if I go into a hostile area.

Usually I play as an Insurgent, Earthcom, or Military of the Terran or Gammulan races--generally I will use a Battlecruiser or the Megaron.

Is there any configuration that would make enemies attack me more often--or is this just part of the free-roam design? Or, are there other variants of free roam for download anywhere that would work with UC Free?(I havent found any, but you never know...) Anyways, thanks for reading/responding if you do.

The only way you can get a ship larger than a fighter to attack you is do a mission (and even i don't think the cruisers/carriers in those go directly for your ship)

But yeah, this is one of the unfun parts of UC. Only ODSs, Stations, planet structures, fighters, and ship turrets attack your ship. For some reason, ODS's won't work in my UCCE 2.0 version, so thats one element out of the game for me.

I think its how roam is designed. I might be wrong.

If you want more enemies to attack you, try out cheat mode (im not sure if it works for the free version, but give it a try) Search cheat mode on the forums and give it a try. You can spawn hostile fighters (which will present more of a challenge than just 2)

Another option you might want to try, is going into a system with only 1 jumpgate/wormhole present and camp that navigation point. Lots of fun :).I just filled up 3 shuttles and my CC full of stuff found from cargo pods and made +65mil.

Everything you posted is untrue. If you're not sure of something, just ask. Plus, the site has a search feature from which you can obtain a lot of information.

Fact is that the free version of UC has various options disabled, but nothing to do with ships. Ships only attack if/when appropriate and it depends on your race/caste. And ODS units do attack IF they have a good firing solution.

Oh well then, don't listen to me Ghost :P

But SC

I've never had anything larger than a fighter seek me out and destroy me, with the exception of an SDM and mobile bases on planet surfaces.

Just saying.

And i've already read almost everything on these forums game related to UC. It's just that old threads that have links in them, don't work properly (since that server move?) It's like the fluxfield of the forum.

Ennemy crafts usually have a destination in mind and wont change their orders even if you attack them. You will notice that though they don't attack you directly, their PTA system is still targeting you, as it's not tied to their current target. Same goes with the crafts launch system, ennemy carriers' fighters will launch if you get into radar range even though the host craft will ignore you. The problem here is that most ennemies you meet have a RTB order which basically overrides any situation-specific threats, such as you firing at them. If they were given patrol/SAD/escort/defend orders and you got into radar range/were a threat they would definitely attack you.

Actually that's not even the problem.

The only reason a craft goes into RTB state is if a) given a direct order B) has nothing to do in the region B) is badly damaged

When ships appear (usually auto-generated ones) in the region, if they don't find anything to do, they will do a target search sweep for several minutes, switch to RTB, then bugger off. However, if you continue to engage them, they will re-engage; which is how even the friendly fire works in that if you consistently attack a friendly target, it will turn hostile.

These AI params have evolved over time and across various games in the series. So the parameters in the most recent (UCCE) games is vastly differrent an more robust than in versions before it - especially going back to the original UC from 2004.

So perhaps taking over every starstation will bring up some positive results?

If they don't have a place to RTB to, then they will just sweep forever or roam around, correct? Or is the flee order another option incase they don't have a place to RTB to?

They will go to a planet and disappear if no stations are active.
