Apocolypse Begins

New thread; same reason. smile.gif

First I want to apologise to Ristar as it seemed he was posting as I was last night and my roleplay looked like a refusal of his meeting. My Character is only the temp fleet leader and he doesn't want to screw up. smile.gifAnother avenue as DeSylva suggested would be good.

Antti as soon as we clear the last hostile from Jupiter space space you can dock with Orion and get on of your own ships. Then you can send the Guardian back to Spectre fleet.

It was Tac who wanted to know where prime was. I was wondering the same thing. Has anyone bothered to count ships? Spectre currently has 32. That takes into account the destroyed Necromancer. The Fictional Guardian would put us back up to 33. Minus the six in Akira's group that is 27 Insurgent BC's in Jupiter space. Doesn't make ya nervous does it? <G> I'm gonna take a wild leap here and suppose that since this is In System Security that Prime could fall under DeSylva for the time being. Dangerous suppposition but it's the only way to write them in. Unless you do it in passing. That's not bad either. Fictional BC's can die real well.

So here we are about to get a respite from the battle. The last hostiles are being cleaned up and Antti is able to dock with Orion. Pluto is under heavy attack and Earthcom is in Neptune. The Graf Spee is in Gammulan space and Earthcom is calling for reinforcements.

GallionÔÇÖs attention remained focused on his TACOPS display tracking the OTS weapons progress to their target below, the doomed Gam Starbase on LV-110. Five OTSs were launched by the heavycruisers attached to Corsair Wing. 20 seconds, 10 seconds, 5, 4, 3, 2, IMPACT!! The Corsair Wing Leader did not need the TACOPS display to find out how many OTS made it through the Gam defenses. On the bridge VID, three brilliant flashes of light appeared where the Starbase was located on LV-110ÔÇÖs surface. Three out of five isnÔÇÖt bad, Gallion thought. Next time ALL weapons will reach their targets. From his display, Gallion could tell that there was nothing left of the Gam Starbase, LV-110, except for a cloud of highly radioactive dust and debris.

GALLION: COMMS, get a status and ordinance report from the Wing. TACOPS, get a damage assessment on the OTS attack of the Starbase. Do you think that the Gam shuttle detected us? CHIEF, what is in those cargo Pods?

COMMS: Message transmitted to Corsair, awaiting reply.

CHIEF ENG: I have no idea what is in the Cargo Pods Sir, been busy doing further analysis on the DeustchlandÔÇÖs BlackBox and those ÔÇ£newÔÇØ IFF modules we received from Wraith HQ, found something peculiar in both I might add.

TACOPS: Commander, I believe that the Gam Shuttle could not help but detect us, initial damage assessment on the starbase indicates that it has been completely wiped out. Three OTS weapons made it through the base defenses.

FO: Get some people to cargo Bay 2 and check the cargo pods, if anything is useful, let me know. Otherwise, jettison the whole lot. CO: debrief the Marine team, find out what went wrong. NAV, plot a course to Tyrinis/Gammula, COMMS: Transmit course to Corsair Wing and instruct them to be prepared to jump on my Mark!

COMS & CO: Aye Sir.

Gallion began the necessary waiting game that every commander goes through in a war. Commanders bark their orders, the troopers respond as quickly and accu....

COMMS: Commander, SITREP from Corsair Wing is in!

GALLION: Route it to my terminal Lt.

Gallion activated the COMMLINK on his display and read the status of Corsair Wing.

Prinze Eugen: 3 ICs fully operational (FOP), 3 ATV FOP, 4 SH FOP, 16 Marines, 20 Hyperdyne ATS missiles, 900 Plutonium, 439 Radine, 225 Iridium, 20 Ralix STS, 10 Vagrant STS., 10 Crab and leech mines.

CS-B reports 20 OTS and 50 Starseeker and Starchild Missiles 900 Iridium, 939 Plutonium, and 1234 Radium, theses are the totals of all Ten Ships. The Graf Spee has...

GALLION: I know what this ship has LT. FO Transfer 900 Iridium to CS-B; 100 Iridium and 20 Ralix missiles to the Prinze in SH3, SH3 will get one OTS from CS-B1-5, transfer two of these to Prinze Eugen, the remaining three will be loaded into our weapons pod. COMMS: Transmit the Wings status to Wraith HQ and add that the Starbase on LV-110 has been destroyed.

COMMS: Aye Sir!

FO: Launch Probe 5 to Tyranis, Probe 6 to Gamma 1, and Probe 7 to Gamma 2. Set the telemetry for all to SILENT. CO, stand down the Marines, they need a break. ALL Hands, rotate crews on a 15 minute break, you deserve it. Gallion OUT!

The Wait begins again, a soldierÔÇÖs lot in life is to hurry up and wait. Something gnawed at Gallion from the back of his head. His sixth sense began to act up again, it has been wrong before so Gallion ignored it for the time being. For the umpteenth time, he was worried. Why the token resistance and why no communication from Wraith HQ except for the message reassigning the Wing [to what fleet] and to standby for further orders [from who?].

GALLION: CHIEF ENG! Meet me in the conference room in one minute!

With out waiting for a reply, Gallion jumped out of his command chair and ran to the conference room. Something came to him and he needed to sound it out with is Chief Engineer.

Gallion arrived at the Graf SpeeÔÇÖs conference room out of breath before his Chief Engineer. Damn! Gallion thought, I should spend more time at the training room. That thought was quickly erased from his psyche when Chief Engineer Scott arrivals to the conference room.

GALLION: Sit down Chief, and tell me, how hard would it be to configure a probe to emit the same sensor signature as a Galatan Battlecruiser?

CHIEF ENG: I don't know Sir, never done it before, but I think.....I think that it could be done.

GALLION: GET on it Chief, this is your top priority!

CHIEF ENG: Aye Sir, but what about the DeustchlandÔÇÖs BlackBox and the IFF Mod...

GALLION: No time Chief, I need to know how long it will take to reconfigure a Probe.

CHIEF ENG: Aye Sir, I will get on it right away.

Chief Engineer Scott departed the conference room. What the hell is the Commander up to now. he thought, the DeustchlandÔÇÖs BlackBox and the IFF Modules were both manipulated at...

GALLION: COMMS, contact the Prinze Eugen, I want to know how many and what types of probes they have. Gallion OUT!

A plan formulated within Commander GallionÔÇÖs twisted pysche. Too much time in a holovid Gallion thought. This is too easy to work. Gallion snapped out of his delirium and headed towards the Galley for a well-deserved meal and some rest.

Guest Blackwell

<rp on>

"Target sited!"

It had taken them long enough. The clock indicated 2 minutes behid schedule. Blackwell was a perfectionist by trade and nature. He was never late, and would never be again unless his team made up for the time.

"On my mark... three, two , mark!"

Their mission acomplished it was time to 'swim' back to the control center. The SRS where trained and equipped to operate in the harshest of environments. It was no secret that GALCOM had surpassed it predessedor in space techologies and combat. What was not well known was that EarthCOM held and significan edge on ground operations and 'special projects'. GALCOM's multi-species composition did not give it EarhCOM's flexibility to divert funds covertly to fund extensive and at times questionable research. Like this little mess.

"Pressure equilibrium established"

The room was still clean as the five member team readjusted their gear for a dry environment. Then something unexpected happened. Blackwell spoke.

"Folks we are officially at FUBAR status. I want options."

It took the squad a second to adjust to a break in the strict silence protocol.

The only female spoke.

"With some modifications we could take a skid to high orbit and wait there."

"No time. Next."

"Lets just call the INS.."

He was cut off.

"No. That is NOT an option."

He would jeopardize his squad but not his entire ship.

The specialist spoke next.

"Sir, lets use the mole. It could get us to low orbit. At least briefly"

The squad exchanged looks. It was decied. "We have five minutes people, lets get it done."

The team went to work on preparing the covert modular control center for flight. One thing about the Gams, they where always ready for a quick get away.

"Two minutes people."

"Sir we have a problem." the specialist spoke.

"Make that two!"

"Contact!"

"Target Donwn!"

"I have three Gams on a aporach. Heavy weapons fire. Will delay advance."

"Negative 5 return to mole now we are leaving.

"Four cover fire with sniper mode. Spec. whatever our problem is fix it!"

"One minute!"

Number five used his last mine turned and rast as fast as he could.

"thirty seconds!"

"problem soloved sir but its going to be a bumpy ride"

"10 seconds!"

Number four picked off the last Gam with a clean head shot at 200 yrds.

"five is in and hach is closed!"

"three"

"spec lets go!"

All five detonarors egnited as designed sending a showave of supper heated plasma down the conector rods whre they had been palced moments earlier. The sub-fressing slush was no macht for the violent chemical reactions. The entire basin, several hundred metric tons, egnited at once. The effect would have been spectacular for any observer and instantly deadly. The prototype mining rods

created by the Gams reproducing the Terran technology and utilizing genetically enginerred spies was incinerated. The reinforced mole lifted off a second before the balst which launched it into the atmosphere.

"ITI detected on the pannet surface sir"

"Show me"

The the intense thermal image was unmistakable but only detectable if you where looking for it.

"Christ! Balckwell. Talk about cuting it close."

"Where is the squad now?"

There was a pause.

"Lt.? the squad."

"Sorry, Sir unless the isntruments are malfunctioning, there is no sign of them."

"Sir our rate of climb is slowing. We need to bail out now."

"Have we reached low orbit yet."

"NO!"

"Set the charges and lets hope the boys and girsl are paying attention up there"

"Lets go"

"New ITI near low orbit. Consistant with one of our charges."

"What. In low orbit?"

"Five signatures just poped on the screen"

"ID?"

"It's the squad!"

"Where are they 180 miles up and dropping fast!"

"Transporter room. Get those-"

"I on it SIR!"

A few tense seconds pass.

"I want you off my chair before I get up there Lt. Cmdr and send to EarthCOM. Mission Acomplished, QUIETLY"

A not so rare smile.

"Yes SIR!"

ÔÇ£Shuttle 3 has dockedÔÇØ rang the automated voice that Gallion learned to despise. Informational yes, necessary? Not all the time.

COMMS: Commander, Prinze Eugen reports 10 probes, 3 long, 3 medium and 4 short range.

GALLION: Chief staus report on the Probe issue?

CHIEF ENG: Aye Sir, it can be done.

GALLION: Excellent work Chief, transfer the specs to COMMS, COMMS relay the probe modifications to the Prinze Eugen, they are to begin Probe modifications immediately. Chief, change our three remaining probes to emit a Galatan Battlecruiser signature!

CHIEF ENG: Aye Sir!

COMMS: Prinze Eugen acknowledges message receipt Commander.

GALLION: ETR Chief?

CHIEF ENG: 15 to 25 minutes Sir.

GALLION: TACNET channel open, Prinze Eugen ETR for probe reconfiguration?

PRINZE EUGEN: 30 to 40 minutes Commander, may I ask why you are having us do this?

GALLION: This is the Hat IÔÇÖve been looking for Commander, be ready to launch all probes on my command. Let me know when your probe reconfiguration is complete. Gallion OUT!

For a second time in as many minutes, Gallion smiled a wicked evil smile. Wait till we get to Gamma 1 Gallion thought, 12 probes reconfigured to emit a Galatan Battlecruiser scanner signature. The Gams will go nuts, they will think that a whole GALCOM fleet is attacking them. Whoaaaaa, reality check Gallion, donÔÇÖt count your chickens before the eggs are hatched, besides, the Gams have a hidden ally, Murphy himself is waiting to rear his evil, twisted head.......

CHIEF ENG: Probe reconfigurations complete Sir!

GALLION: Good work Chief, have your people get some rest, we may need your services later.

CHIEF ENG: YES SIR! And THANK YOU SIR!

Amazing what a ÔÇ£kindÔÇØ word or two can do for morale, maybe I need to do it a little more, Gallion thought. That and what his next move would be.

GALLION: FO ETA of Probes 5, 6, and 7

FO: Probe 5 ETA 3 minutes, Probe 6 ETA 36 minutes, and Probe 7 ETA 49 minutes barring any complications Commander.

Complications, what bloody complications could happen to the probes the Graf Spee launched. Gallion waited patiently for Probe 5 to reach its destination. He occupied his time planning his next move deeeeep within Gammulan territory, wondering about the DeustchlandÔÇÖs BlackBox and the ÔÇ£newÔÇØ IFF module peculiarities that the Chief was alluding to before he cut Scott off. :Hated to do that,ÔÇØ Gallion said to no one inperticular, ÔÇ£but I was not ready to hear about that then.ÔÇØ Some of the Bridge crew gave their commander a weird look. A look that may have worried some commanders but not Gallion. Seems they were use to having their Commander ÔÇ£wig-outÔÇØ from time to time. Maybe I should ask Scott about those...

FO: Probe 6 has reached its destination Sir!

Gallion activated his TACOPS display and scanned the Tyrinis system. Same as before, no Gam space traffic what so ever.

GALLION: FO, prepare to jump to pre-plotted course on my Mark! TACNET channel opened CORSAIR WING, PREPARE TO JUMP TO PRE-PLOTTED COURSE ON MY MARK 3....2.....MARK!!

The twelve ships of Corsair Wing turned as one. One by one they left normal space, their destination, JMP-58, the jump point to Tyrinis system. Maybe the Gams will respond to this attack, Gallion thought to himself. This is beginning to become a Turkey shoot.

Corsair Wing made the jump without incident or a response from the Gam Fleet. As with LV-110, the only threat in this system was the XTENDER ODS platform orbiting the planet.

GALLION: NAV/TACOPS what is the ODS platformÔÇÖs position relative to the Starbase on Tyrinis?

TACOPS: The starbase is on the sun-side of the planet Commander and...

NAV: Commander, the platform is on the other side of the plant from the Starbase.

TACOPS: I was about to tell the Commander...

GALLION Enough people! Quit your squabbling. CO Prepare Marines for Combat deployment in ATV2 and ATV 3. FO: Prepare ATV2, ATV3, SH3, and SH4 for flight ops. Load all ICs with ATS missiles. COMMS Relay that to the Prinze Eugen. Their marine target will be the StarbaseÔÇÖs shield generator and our Marine target will be the StarbaseÔÇÖs Fire Control Center. NOTIFY CS-B1-5 to prepare one OTS launch; target will be the Starbase on Tyrinis.

Gallion thought about the last time Corsair Wing tried a ground assault, one ATV destroyed, one ATV abandoned, and four Marines killed in action. The one thing that Gallion hated about his job was the letters to the parents of crewmembers under his command that were killed in action.

GALLION: TACNET channel open, Corsair Wing prepareto jump to Tyrinis on my MARK, 5...4....3....2...MARK.

As they have done before, Corsair WingÔÇÖs twelve ships jumped as one to their destination. The Commander of the GVC Prinze Eugen was at a lost, just as the Wing Leader was, as to why the Gammulans failed to respond to Corsair WingÔÇÖs presence deeeep within Gammulan territory. He thought, ÔÇ£Ours is not to reason why, ours is to do or dieÔÇØ. The Prinze Eugen Commander preferred not to tempt the later nut wondered about the former. Why.....

Geez, you guys sure like counting!

All of the Prime ships are at Jupiter. Let's just say that the Gam fleet, when it arrived, was a lot bigger than anyone was expecting. After all, the Gams knew it would take a pretty serious threat to persuade GALCOM to move all of it's forces to Jupiter and clear a way for them to Neptune - they would've thrown most of their fleet at us.

Hmm, some interesting developments there, Blackwell. I hate to break it to you, though, but even with SCID's non-pareil training, you haven't got the upper hand yet. ISS intelligence, under the command of Jeehun Ristar, has detected the explosion. We estimate you destroyed nearly a quarter of the extensive facility - not bad, boys! - but three-quarters still stands, and this includes a Gammulan control center, where their copy of the plans now lies. So now EarthCOM AND the Gammulans have a copy of the plans...

So our current force breakdown is thus. Corsair Wing is currently deep behind enemy lines, fighting for it's life, in a bid to return home, and to hit the enemy hard at the same time. ISS, Prime (under my command as a the designated coordinator from GALCOM Fleet Command), Orion, Wraith, and the other TDF ships (the few remaining Raiders and the Insurgents) are in Jupiter, where the battle is finally beginning to turn. In fact, if they continue like this, they may well be mopping up before too long. Which leaves one big problem. The only people who know about the base on Neptune and it's Gammulan infiltration are EarthCOM - who just left with a bang - Jeehun Ristar, who is hurriedly trying to make a secure contact with the other commanders through the haze and static of battle to try and inform them of the threat within their borders - and the RAVEN wing of the Insurgency...

Hehe, Gallion has been busy! :-) Keep it up Corsair!!!!

Pluto has been destroyed? Exlain that please Lindsey..I seem to have missed that part.

Anyway, if the Gam fleet at Jupiter is about to be mopped up as De Sylva stated.., what about the one at Neptune? That one was dealt with too? Since I dont know the details I will not enter Neptune this post..I need info on it first from you Charles. If they are calling for reinforcements I suggest you tell us how many Gam vessels are in the area, as well as what happened in Pluto. Need Intel here buddy! We can't send out bulk into neptune now that 60+ ships are incoming from Polaris.. feed us the numbers, we will split the tasks.

Ship count: Sol Space: 26 Insurgents, 8 Wraith Galactans and 2 Wraith Cruisers.

Prime,ISS and Orion please post how many ships you got in the Sol system. Please include how many you got OUT of Sol system which may come into play in this battle.

Ships out of Sol Space: Wraith Delta Wing (10 Galactans) located somewhere between Lanix-IV and Wrath HQ.

Corsair Wing:2 Galactans and 10 Cruisers currently in Deep Gammulan Space. Reinforcements from Wrath HQ: 2 Galactans (non-player), 8 heavy cruisers, 20 fighters and 12 transports coming in from Wrath HQ on their way to Lanix-IV.

Whoa.. if the whole ISS and the whole of Orion AND most of Earthcom are in SOL space, what the heck are we worrying about????? Just the count of Wraith and Insurgent ships can counter the coming 60+ gam fleet.

I estimate there are about...what, 120 ships in Sol now? not counting the station's complement or the raiders.

The drama goes on...

<RP>

As the Battlecruiser Usagi raced through her flight path that would take her to Neptune, Tac sat silently in his command chair thinking about the events that had taken place a few hours before. The comms officer broke his concentration.

"Sir, message from Galcom. The battle at Jupiter is turning to our advantage."

Smiles swept across the bridge.

"Good news for a change... send a general broadcast to all TDF vessels in Jupiter: 'Congratulations people, I'm sure that when thisis over it will show the Gammulans that when threatened, the people of Earth stand as one.'"

"Message sent."

"Comms: Order the Wrath Reinforcements to halt and hide for the moment. We may not need them"

"Aye sir"

"Hail Earthcom, request a TacOps link with the Neptune region"

"Hailing..."

"Tactical: I want a report on all.."

"Commander" interrupted the Comms officer,"Earthcom will not link with us, they do not give a reason. They explicitly request we do not enter Neptune... no reason either."

"Aiih" Tac sighed, Earthcom's reputation preceded it "very well then, Helm: Full stop. We will wait at the Neptune gate"

"Helm:Neptune Gate, Aye!" replied the Helm.

"Commander, Wrath reinforcements complying"

"Good, Comms: Hail the Tsuing, I want to know what happened in that Gammulan ship Hellstar was boarding"

"Hailing..awaiting response"

"Sir" the Combat Officer cut in, "you may want to get in touch with Corsair Wing, that last message was not very clear"

DAMN Tac thought.. I forgot about Gallion! Abashed, he turned to the comms officer.

"Comms, contact Gallion, tell him that Cmdr. Ristar is now barking the orders for Corsair for the time being.. ask him for a status report on his flotilla and on enemy targets he has engaged."

"Coding transmission... sending via tightbeam to Wrath HQ...message sent"

Tac glanced at his veteran Combat Officer, he had been with him since his first command, the old Fedaykin.Silently, Tac nodded in respectful gratitude to his comrade. The C.O. just smiled back and turned to face his console. It was good to have someone who would keep on thinking when he entered "Instinct Fighting Mode".

"Now we wait...again."

GCV Usagi silently hovered by the Neptune gate as the crew took their well earned time to rest and relax.

Guest Ron Wallin

whoa, tac, when did you show...hehe, anyway, here's the sitrep.

Pluto has not been destroyed. The ISS forces in Pluto though are badly damaged and are dealing with about 10 Gam warships. The main group has moved into Neptune space and is currently engaged with EARTHCOM.

50 Gamm warships, 30 cargo ships, outnumbering the earthcom forces (warships) 2 to one in favor of the Gammulans. However, you are not supposed to know about Neptune until Ristar tells you about the base there. EarthCom has gone to great extent to keep it secret and they are currently defending it. Until they call for assitance you don't know anything outside of Pluto. When I post next, I'll report the Gammulans entering Neptune to Rattler, who will then inform you.

That's what's going on on the other side of Sol space. Now, as I understand from the postings, Chavik and you all have pretty muched wiped out the first wave of gammulan threats and are regrouping.

I'd cut the survival numbers down or increase the gammulan numbers (kill some fictionary prime fleet commanders, they'll never know smile.gif), but the current situation has only Cmdr. Londono remembering the threat getting ready to come into Jupiter (no other commander has posted anything about it).

Rattler is wiht DeSylva who is worried about the small force he sent into Pluto. they haven't reported at all. Chavik is trying to get his people some supplies and Antti is hunting down a new ship. That leaves the door wide open for the second wave of Gammulans coming into Jupiter.

There you have it. Blackwell has performed some secret ops that have no known aim or accomplishment other than a cool piggy back into low orbit. Hopefully the readers (readers, not characters. there is a difference) will be let in on what's going on there, otherwise his is a dead storyline with no purpose in the big picture. So other than that, the above is the current state of things.

I'll be posting sometime tom. It's going to be a doozy and will cause some serious ramifications. If I could insert a .wav file you'd hear my evil laugh.

Oooh hold on a sec De Sylva.. Corsair Wing is doing mighty Fine. Delta Wing is the one that is closer to us at the moment, and that is the one I plan to bring in at the Gammulan rear (remember Corsair are 2 BC's, Delta are 10!).

I plan to link the Wrath HQ complement with Delta and box in that fleet if possible. Any thoughts on this?..if we need numbers other fleets could also launch their starstation's vessels and commandeer them in battle.

Another question: Where are our Galcom allies in this? *GRIN!!!*.

De Sylva: Hellstar is boarding a Gam vessel.. please E-mail him about this... about what he may find in that vessel. Hellstar: Wait for De Sylva's say on this old buddy!.

Well, Ron's done a pretty good job so far of explaining things. As I've said, let's assume there are a LOT more Gam ships that arrived in Jupiter than we expected. You work out the numbers - let's just say half again as many as GALCOM forces were stationed there. As well as that, most of EarthCOM ISN'T in Sol, it's lying in pieces around Centron (I think) where the Gammulan collection fleet surprised them and ripped up Warmage.

As Akira said, Prime fleet members probably took a beating (they are run-of-the-mill forces), and our forces are just mopping up, having forgotten about the threat that Wraith tried to hold up with their mines - 50 more Gams are about to break through in a last-ditch attempt to keep us occupied.

The only pople who actually (in the RP) know about Neptune are Ristar, The EC SCID boys who have just left and are covering their backsides in an attempt to stop the Gams getting hold of the plans for the fuel synthesis process (which they already have, and are planning to evac from the surface), and Akira, who should be (or may have already) bypassing Pluto, where the remnants of the security forces I stationed they weren't ISS forces, just the few troops I could muster from GALCOM station security forces) there are having their backsides kicked by the 10 gam warships hanging around there.

DeSylva is EXTREMELY concerned about the Pluto fleet - their silence (because most of them are dead or dying) means that Pluto may have been threatened. He is preparing to leave Jupiter under the command of Orion Fleet, and head to Pluto himself to find out what's going on. He's going to go absolutely spare when he realises what's happened.

And any time now, when I get a spare hour, we're going to hear about the meeting between Rattler and DeSylva.

OK when Michael Killed of Renwick I assumed all was lost at Pluto. Sad one that; he had just come into his own. Perhaps someone can find his escape pod, revive him and let Renwick issue the warning from Pluto since no one else has yet and DeSylva is worried. I've changed my previous post to say heavy attack instead of destroyed.

The reason I counted ships is so that I could get a feel for an appropriate threat. Tac's right. 26 Insurgents, Wraith that is still in Jupiter, and ISS ships; 60+ Gammulan is not much of a threat. But I'll let my imagination work with that one. Huge works. <G>

We are mopping up in Jupiter now to let Antti get back into Orion. No dockin while hostiles are about. We are repairing and regrouping. Chavik is still hunting down Rattler and trying to figure out what is going on after getting the Insurgent forces dumped in his lap. He hasn't heard a word from him but know's Rattler isn't dead.

I think I'm caught up and am waiting on the next person to introduce the next Gammulan wave into Jupiter.

OK so I sit on the jumpgate that leads to Neptune waiting for something to happen.

De Sylva: E-Mail Hellstar about that ship he's boarding.Ok since I'm not supposed to know about Neptune I will edit my earlier post.

Ron: If the ISS is in a bad situation at Pluto, why hasn't there been any call fo reinforcements? (Or if there was, I missed it). We could have those raiders go and help, or Orion or anyone.

Corsair Wing arrived in orbit above Tyrinis without a challenge from the Gammulans. The XTENDER ODS platform was on the far side of the planet. The Wing had 15 minutes before they had to worry about that. Enough time to do what Gallion wanted to do.

GALLION: TACNET channel opened. COMMS; relay to Prinze Eugen; FO Launch SH3, SH4, and all ICs.. ICs will provide air and ground support for all ATVs. ATV targets as planned. Gallion OUT!

GOMMS: Prinze Eugen reports all craft launched.

GALLION: TACNET channel open, Prinze Eugen prepare to CLOAK and jump on my MARK, Target will be the ODS platform. Gallion OUT. TACOPS, how long until the ODS platform aquires the Wing?

GALLION: TACNET channel open, Cruisers stand fast, your target will be the starbase when its shields and fire control are down. Prinze Eugen, three ... two ... MARK!

As one both Galatan Battlecruisers faded from view as they activated their cloaking devices. Thirty seconds later, the Graf Spee and Prinze Eugen arrive at their destination, the XTENDER ODS platform. The Graf Spee took a position between the planet Tyrinis and the ODS platform while the Prinze Eugen took position from the sun-side of the doomed Gammulan ODS platform.

GALLION: TACOPS, range to target?

TACOPS: 12k and closing.

GALLIN: HELM, get us to within 3km of the platform, COMMS contact the Prinze, tell them to close to within 3km and await my orders to fire.

COMMS: Message sent Commander.

Gallion waited, he was not worried. Two Gallatan Battlecruisers against an ODS platform, no problem......right?

TACOPS: Target locked 3km Commander!!

GALLION: TACNET channel opened. Prinze Eugen FIRE!!!

The Graf Spee shuddered as two Ralix missiles left their den. Gallion could see four missiles streaking towards the ODS platform. He also saw something that made him chill with fear, a chill that penetrated his bones. The Prinze Eugen appeared on his TACOPS display and on the Bridge VID. The Gam ODS platform began to move, moving towards the Prinze Eugen, locking its missiles and lasers on the now visible Battlecruiser.

GALLION: HELM! Get us to within point-blank range, deactivate CLOAKING SYTEM! Weapons on free fire! TACNET channel open, Prinze Eugen EVASIVE MANEUVERS NOW!!!

Too much, too little, too late. As the Graf Spee moved closer to the ODS platform, its IOD and PTA system firing as soon as they recharged, the ODS platform completely ignored the Graf Spee. Instead, it trained its weapons systems on the Prinze Eugen. ÔÇ£Come on Prinze move!!ÔÇØ Gallion mutter under his breath,ÔÇ£turn on your ECM, do something!ÔÇØ The four missiles the BCs launched had accomplished their purpose, the ODS platformÔÇÖs shields were down and caused minor dame to its armor and systems. The Graf SpeeÔÇÖs IOD and PTA system fire was beginning to chip away at the ODS platform. Not enough, Gallion could imagine himself on the bridge of the Prinze Eugen, hearing that annoying automated computer voice, <Hostile Launch detected, Hostile Launch Detected>. Two flashes of light left from the ODS system, these flashes streaked towards the Prinze Eugen. Shortly afterward, the ODS platformÔÇÖs lasers opened fire on the Prinze. Almost as soon as the lasers began firing, they stopped. The Graf SpeeÔÇÖs IOD and PTA barrage finally did what they were suppose to do, the ODS platform erupted into a glorious fireball of light and debris, signaling the platformÔÇÖs destruction.. The two missiles launched by the platform continued on their preprogrammed mission at hit the Prinze Eugen. Gallion watched on his TACOPS display as the PrinzeÔÇÖs shield collapsed before the second missile hit her. Its armor went down 43 percent and the system percent went down 58 percent. Gallion waited, the seconds that ticked by seemed to be hours, he was waiting for Murphy to finish what he started, for something to go critical and the Prinze Eugen to go as the Gam ODS platform did. Expand its mass into the void of space. Three minutes ticked by and the Prinze Eugen did not join the ODS platformÔÇÖs fate. Gallion felt relieved but was trouble as the Prinze began to drift and list on its starboard side.

GALLION: COMMS contact the Prinze, I want their status report, CHIEF, prepare your people to assist the Prinze Eugen.

Gallion began the game he hated most, orders barked, time to wait. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Corsair WingÔÇÖs Marines were....

Akira's mind was expanded as far as Strike Group Raven's sensors could reach. He could see the small battle ensuing between the token force of Gammulans and the aging, badly beaten ISS ships. He thought and the Raven Group's star formation expanded, further increasing the depth and detail of sensory data pouring into his mid. Akira thought about the remainder of the Gammulan force and the Tactical Officer appeared at the fringe of his vision.

"The remainder of the ISS fleet reported the bulk of the Gammulans jumping into Neptune, sir."

Akira stretched his senses toward the Neptune jump point. The data from the Nevermore's computers, sensors, communications array, targeting system and power plants was transformed into sensory input through the unique combination of processors and alien technology built into his command chair. The Insurgents acquired and refined the technology from a set of GALCOM plans liberated from a project long since lost in the obscurity of EARTHCOM black ops. The project was buried when GALCOM discovered that the process produced delusional personnel. Commanders on extended sorties had the nasty tendency of enjoying the god like sensation of exploring the universe while their bodies where crushed, burnt, or deprived of oxygen as the Battlecruiser rammed into planets, moons and stars.

The alien technology is thought to have been acquired from disabled Syrion craft but that information has not been and probably will never be confirmed. Regardless the source, the Insurgent research engineers knew that someone had figured a way to at least minimize the effects. With that in mind they proceeded to formulate solutions that existed outside the technology. Failsafe options were created that returned the commander to reality if anything unusual was detected by the computers or crew. However, the technology was still volatile and therefore limited to the fleet and strike group commanders only.

Akira could smell the Gammulan's thrust exhaust built up around the jump point. The total volume of the build up and the lack of debris told Akira that all the fleet made it into the jump point. Akira let slip a thought and the system cartography overlaid his view. What was so important about Neptune? Earth is a single jump point from Pluto and a far more likely target. He created a data connection to the nearest ISS ship and loaded a bot into their system. Thirty seconds later the bot returned with the information he needed.

"Comm, aye. Message delivered. Stand by." Akira could feel his crew's uneasiness about him issuing orders this way. The flat sound of the computer's interpretation of his thoughts left the crew feeling like they were dealing with droids instead of a live person. No one liked taking orders from a machine, Akira understood that and let their displeasure slide. "Commander, a coded reply from Cmdr. Chavik is being decrypted on your system. The signature tag is Insurgent One?" she said, confused by Chavik's unusual sig file. The text floated in the foreground.

INSURGENT ONE COMMAND TRANSFERRED TO ME ON...NECROMANCER DESTROYED...NO WORD FROM EARTHCOM. SORRY AKIRA, IF THEY'RE IN NEPTUNE YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE WHY. THE MOMENT I GET INTEL I'LL TIGHT BEAM IT TO YOUR...REMAINING MESSAGE CORRUPTED.

How the hell did the Necromancer...

"Tactical, aye. Cmdr. Rattler preferred the Delta Vee formation. This formation is notorious for leaving the command ship vulnerable should tactical not pay atten..."

Belay that tactical, I know how it could happen! Sometimes the system was too sensitive, he thought, careful not to relay that to the bridge crew. Rattler is out of the picture and the ISS sensor logs show a large number of EARTHCOM forces following the Gammulans into Neptune. But there were only fifteen ships in that flight, hardly enough to even slow the Gammulan war machine.

"Commander, Raven-07 reports operation successful, the in system Gammulan forces have been neutralized. ISS should be able to handle the cleanup," Comm reported.

Akira returned his attention to his Strike Group. His second thought brought Raven Group's jump engines online and hurled the group as one toward the Neptune jump point. He was there waiting for his physical self to catch up and pondering EARTHCOM's motives. It wasn't typical of their commanders to suicide an entire flight of Battlecruisers. They had to know the numbers possibly in the Neptune system. Why would they charge into the system without support?

Because support was already there! EARTHCOM has a reason for being in Neptune. A reason worth quietly sacrificing the greater part of their resources. Akira formulated a last message to acting Insurgent One.

STRIKE GROUP RAVEN ENTERING NEPTUNE. SYSTEM BELIEVED TO BE OCCUPIED BY GAMMULAN ARMADA AND BULK OF EARTHCOM FORCES. SITREP AND INTEL REQUIRED ASAP.

"Message received, no response," Comm reported.

Akira tightened the star formation and Raven Group passed in tandem through the jump point.

-------

The research engineers will need to find a way to speed up the systems reset after using those jump points, Akira thought. "Communications, lets open our ears. I want all com traffic logged and categorized by ship. Route all priority and command messages directly to my station."

"Aye, aye, sir. Recording process underway. All Ravens report standing by. Your orders, sir?"

"All ships forward thrust at 100, on my mark...Mark. Do not adjust formation, maintain radio silence, and cloaking status. I want prognosis reports from each of you. Tell me why EARTHCOM would want to defend Neptune. Akira out." He didn't expect anything new from the commanders. They would be in the dark as much as he was about the importance Neptune. But odds were one of them would have an idea that could break things wide open.

"Commander, all systems online and fully functional," the Chief reported.

"Raven Group, Raven resuming linked mode operations. Enable failsafes and get me those ideas." Akira tapped his control pad. The command chair wrapped itself partially around and he was back in space amongst the stars. He zoomed to the frontlines careful not to change the flight profile of his group. EARTHCOM was not fairing well. They were fighting valiantly but were destined to lose by the numbers alone.

ALL EARTHCOM SHIPS ARE DIRECTED TO PREVENT THE GAMMULANS FROM TAKING EARTHCOM BASE ON NEPTUNE AT ALL COST. REPEAT AT ALL COST.

Akira placed his attention on the ship pushing that message. The Hammer of God, commanded by Karl Wolfe. Akira winced. It was going to be hard defending that man. But first he'd use him. Raven Group, launch all probes with sniffing orders. Make it obvious. I want EARTHCOM to know we're listening to them, he thought and ordered. The ship commander's compliance was delivered with their obvious dislike for the orders.

Yes, EARTHCOM will know someone is listening. I want them to know that. It leaves certain avenues open to other assaults, he replied. Raven Group was all quiet. Unless a ship were to physically run into them, no one would know they existed.

Akira rode the data streams between the EARTHCOM ships looking for a way into their systems. The task was painfully slow, even though it only took seconds in real time. There it is, he thought. Akira piggybacked a data stream onto the Hammer of God's receipt to EARTHCOM's recent message. To be safe he found fifteen other transmissions and piggy backed those as well. Now it was time to wait and see what the bots could find.

He returned his attention to the battle at hand and directed the combined computing power of the seven ship group to finding a pattern to the Gammulan attacks. The system painted two edges of the Gammulan fleet red. The systems then suggested what ships, if attacked would cause the greatest amount of confusion and ultimately destruction. Akira painted those ships, a small cluster of three ships toward the center of the Gammulan's main thrust of ships. Based on the communication traffic those three ships were controlling the Gammulan's attacks that EARTHCOM had yet to affect.

"Commander, incoming message from Insurgent One. Umm, sir, it's encoded 'Crow's Eyes Only'," the Communications Officer stuttered. They all knew how Cmdr. Akira's temper flared when someone used the derogatory Crow instead of Raven.

"Decode and relay, comm." Akira didn't have time to get mad this instance, though. Only one person had the brass to call him that anyway, and that one was dead.

AKIRA, HERE'S THE INTEL YOU REQUESTED: RISTAR HAS JUST INFORMED US OF A SECRET GALCOM/EMPIRIAN BASE ON NEPTUNE. THEY ARE PRODUCING SYNTHESIZED IRIDIUM FOR INCREASED CLOAKING CAPABILLITIES. GAMMULANS ARE AFTER THIS PROCESS. EARTHCOM'S INTEREST IN THE SYNTH PROCESS IS UNKNOWN. BUT WE BOTH KNOW HOW THEY OPPERATE. GALCOM WOULDN'T KNOW EITHER. WATCH YOUR BACK, OLD FRIEND. RATTLER OUT.

Rattler? Akira was confused, Chavik reported the Necromancer destroyed. One could only wonder what Rattler did to lose his ship. I would like to have been there for that, he thought. A yellow icon was blinking outside the confinements of the battle. At least one bot had made it back.

Akira checked the data stream for piggyback data, viruses, and auto coders. The stream was clean. Akira began reading. The third bot contained what he'd been looking for. EARTHCOM had found a way to use the synth-iridium as a fuel source for super quiet engines. Akira read the rest of EARHTCOM's plans for using the new fuel in modified cloaked Vagrant missiles. They had initial test results showing Raider ships that never knew what hit them.

Akira paused. EARTHCOM having this type of technology was bad enough but somehow the Gammulans found out. How many have to die before Terrans open their eyes to what EARTHCOM was doing. Akira broke the radio silence to speak with the rest of the Ravens.

Commanders, it doesn't look like we're going to win this one. You're looking at EARTHCOM's plans for the mineral this base is synthesizing. As usual, they dropped the ball and Earth's greatest enemy is about to run away with the golden egg and the goose. I'm ordering all hands to transfer to the Lightspeed. He could feel there desire to stay and fight.

I understand your wanting to stay, but you must understand what I'm going to do first.. The Sol system hasn't seen nuclear weapons dropped on its own for centuries. I'm going to change that today. You'll notice your weapon pods have been filled with five OTS Bugnors each. I will give no warning and there will be no survivors. We Insurgents wouldn't allow EARTHCOM to produce these kinds of weapons and I'm not about to let the Gammulans walk away with them.

Either way, humans will be dying on that base and the man that pushes the button will be hunted by everyone. You may stay, but you will probably die in the process. I strongly encourage you to go with the Lightspeed and report to Spectre Fleet. There is no dishonor in leaving, but there will be if you stay. You have decisions to make Commanders. I'm giving you five minutes to decide and get aboard the Lightspeed.

Cmdr. Re'trat. You will not be given the option. Your orders are to leave the system immediately and proceed at best speed back to Sygan. I want you to transmit the information we've gathered here to every Insurgent ship you pass on the way. You are not to stop and you are not to engage the enemy and no one is to know your ship is passing through. I'm trusting that you will do the Elite Scouts proud in this. You have your orders, Commander. Wait seven minutes then good luck and God's speed.

Akira returned his focus to the battle above the base on Neptune. Simply destroying the plant isn't enough, he thought. EARTHCOM will still have the plans and can start the process again. I must get my hands on this and my best chance is the Gammulans. He focused on the Gammulan cargo craft on the planet. They were loading now. Good. It's only a matter of timing. The computer overlaid a graphic of the fastest route to the optimum firing solution.

He felt a change in the formation of Raven Group. ICV Lightspeed was on her way out of the system. Akira queried the rosters. They'd all left. Akira jumped the ships to within 500 klicks of the battle. Still cloaked, he began to turn off all the environmental safeguards of the 5 ships. The five craft began to rotate around the Nevermore. The whole thing looked like a spinning wheel. The five BC's came up to speed a slowly rotating wheel with the Nevermore as the hub.

Weapons online, fifteen vagrants loaded per ship set to dumb fire. The plan was simple, rip a hole through the firefight. Launch the nukes and hopefully capture the hold of one of the Gammulan cargo ships.

Akira kicked in the engines and set the afterburners to their highest position. Raven group reached terminal velocity at 100 km from the battle. His position was announced when Akira turned on the PTA systems for the outer ring of craft. Plasma erupted from the tightly knit circle resembling a squid's tentacles. Next, Akira set the IOD to auto fire at 30%. Now the group looked like a spinning squid with a tornado of fire extending from its center.

The smart commanders quickly moved their ships out of death's pass, but only a few made it. Akira lobbed his first volley of vagrants along his path. The cannon fire had already disabled the battle weakened shields of those unfortunate souls in his way, each vagrant struck a mark. Four ships, one EARTHCOM, exploded at once. Akira glided Raven group between the blast waves that were pushing ships from his path.

Akira pulled back to a more god-like view of the situation. Only 100 km to go and he'd be in position. Only two more craft lay in the path of his righteous fury. One Earthcom, one Gammulan. Akira targeted the Gammulan ship with the vagrants and fired. The Gammulan ship's blast wave pushed the EARTHCOM vessel a little too hard. It was dead in space but out of Akira's way. The ships behind him were starting to regroup.

Akira felt sure that they knew his target and both Gammulan and EARTHCOM were on their way to take out his new addition to the playing field. He lined up the shot and halted the Raven's spin. Volley one away, two away, three away, four away, five away. The OTS all made their targets at the same time. Volley one, was set to impact on the ground. Two, a short distance above, and so on. The final volley igniting one mile from the surface adding to the energy of each previous volley.

The mushroom cloud extended out to space carrying with it a small amount of the blast energy. Akira was prepared. He spun the group around 180 degrees, kicked in the after burners and rode the wave. His speed far exceed the terminal velocity of most afterburners, and carried him well away from the battle above Neptune.

He thought he heard the screams of a million people while riding the blast out. Probably just the strain on the sheilds. At least it was instant, he thought. They wouldn't have felt or known what hit them. But it wasn't over. Akira lightly brought the ships around to bleed off energy and catch up to the two cargo ships that got out. A siren went off.

Raven's 02 and 05 were badly damaged. No one was on board so he didn't worry about them. He pushed the ships as much as they would take into alignment with the two cargo vessels and ignited the hyperdrive. Raven's 02 and 05 exploded as the rest entered hyperspace. Akira wasn't thinking right and he knew it. Had anyone been there to enact the failsafe he would have been back in his command chair issuing orders the old fashion way.

He didn't have time to think about that. His jump point opened and the remaining four BC's poured through. Followed by the hyperspace-accelerated shockwave sucked into his jump point along with his group. Raven's 03 and 06 were incinerated. Raven five was hurled through one of the Gammulan cargo vessels. Both ships' nuclear reactors exploded taking out the other cargo ship's shields.

With no remaining Raven Group, Akira's consciousness should have returned to the bridge. It didn't and he didn't care. Akira was in full on God mode. He rammed the second cargo ship with the Nevermore shearing off the cargo hold and emptying its contents into space. Remembering his objective he hit full retro burners and stopped his BC. He sent two shuttles to pick up the four cargo pods piloting the shuttles like a child driving a TONKA Truck (yeah, those lasted a thousand years. The good stuff always does smile.gif ). The shuttles RTB'd. He looked at his ship's status. Sheilds were at 300 from the original 4000, his hull integrity was low and his armor alomost gone. Akira didn't care.

He was flying with the stars now. Akira fell through the Pluto jump point and was free. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew he was supposed to go someplace important now, but his instincs told him to simply fly. He did.

The Nevermore was last seen entering Null space in the Pluto sector and has yet to be found.

The Marines of Corsair Wing completed their mission, both the Starbase shield generator and its fire control system were destroyed. The Marines from the Graf Spee suffered three casualties; two dead and one wounded; both ATVs suffered minimal dames, nothing that canÔÇÖt be fixed. The Prinze EugenÔÇÖs Marine teams were not as lucky as the Graf SpeeÔÇÖs, five dead, three wounded, one ATV destroyed, and the other is heavily damaged. The five Cruisers were beginning their launch sequence when Gallion activated his TACNET channel.

GALLION: CS-B1-5 terminate OTS launch, Prinze Eugen damage report NOW!

PRINZE EUGEN: Cloaking system suffered malfunction Commander. The Deflector Array is burnt out. Engines are destroyed. Shields heavily damaged, Array Decoder, COMP Control Unit, Relay Chip, and Defuser Relay destroyed; no replacements. Reactor suffered minor damage, power output down 35 %, we can fix it.

GALLION: Will send a shuttle over with the parts you need, transfer all OTS weapons to the Graf Spee shuttle, GALLION OUT.

GALLION: CHIEF, FO load the equipment that the Prinze needs into Shuttle Four. TACOPS prepare OTS launch on the Starbase, also find us something else to target on Tyrinis, preferably a military target.

TACOPS: Aye Sir.

GALLION: HELM move us to within TRACTOR Beam Range and TRACTOR the Prinze Eugen, then set course to the rest of the Wing.

FO: aye, aye Sir.

COMMS: Incoming message from wraith HQ.

GALLION: Pipe it through Lt.

ISS, what the sam h*** is Tac thinking., Gallion pondered the possible ramifications of the orders he received. Well if Commander Tac says so.

GALLION: CHIEF, begin repairs on our ATVs, send any SysEngs that you can spare on the SH4 to assist the Prinze Eugen, launch SH4 when ready, GALLION OUT.

FO: TRACTOR Beam locked and activated, Prinze Eugen in tow Commander, ETA rest of Corsair Wing, 2 Minutes.

The two minutes ticked away quickly. Two Galatan Battlecruisers, one towing the other, rejoin the ten heavycruisers of Corsair Wing.

TACOPS: Starbase locked Commander.

GALLION: Launch OTS.

TACOPS: Secondary target identified, an industrial complex in the upper portion of the main continent.

GALLION: Proximity to civilian population?

TACOPS: Seems to be in the middle of it Sir.

Gallion thought about it for a minute, collateral damage is what they called it at the academy.

GALLION: TACOPS, target industrial complex and launch OTS when locked.

The TACOPS officer, a green Lt fresh out of the academy before all hell broke loose, hesitated at his station. Commander Gallion saw his TACOPS officer hesitation and knew what was coming.

GALLION: TACOPS, Acknowledge your last orders or you will be thrown in the BRIG!

TACOPS: Orders acknowledged Sir, Industrial complex targeted, and OTS launch when locked.

Gallion turned to the Marine Sergeant stationed in the operation room and said, ÔÇ£If he hesitates, kill him.ÔÇØ The Sergeant nodded his head and watched the TACOPS officers every move, waiting for the Lt to hesitate.

TACOPS: Target Locked, OTS weapon launched.

GALLION: Excellent work Lt, why don't you take a break, Be back at your station in one hour.

The TACOPS Lt did not know what to make of it. Just seconds before, he was on the verge of disobeying his commanding officer in a time of war. A crime punishable by death. No hearing, no lawyer, no say so in his defense. He jumped from his station, saluted Commander Gallion, and left the Bridge.

Gallion watched his TACOPS officer leave the Bridge silently. He turned his attention to the Bridge VID. An ever-expanding flash of light appeared where the Industrial Complex was on the planet surface. Scratch one weapons factory, Gallion thought, and a couple of million Gammulans too.

GALLION: COMMS, prepare to copy;

Yazin:"You heard Akira, now lets get moving! Tactical the second we leave this jumpgate I want an immediate compilation of the location of every Gammulan ship, and I need you to work on a way of getting the Gammulans close toghether"

Tactical:"Uh, Yessir"

Yazin:"Chief Engineer Carter, prepare project "Solar Flare" for its acid test"

Carter:"Solar Flare, its ready sir, but I don't know how many of us will survive it...."

Yazin:"It is a dangerous gamble, but we have no choice, the Gammulans must be stopped and if it means we have to sacrifice our lives in order to do it, we will. One ship and its crew for the lives of billions of people, but I won't let it come to that!"

Yazin looked at his Chief Engineer, who had a new look of determination and fire in his eyes.

Carter:"Your right, your damn right! I'll get it prepped, and Sir, lets send 'em all straight to Hell!"

With that said Carter left the bridge and headed to finish the final preparations on project "Solar Flare". The Lightspeed lurched forth as it entered the jumpgate and was brought to Pluto where a scene of untold devestation was unfolding. An overwhelmed force of terrans was fighting bravely against over ten Gammulan warships.

Yazin:"Comm send a tight band transmission to Akira, inform him that I am breaking formation and to hold back, also send a message to the Commanders of the ISS ships in the fray, inform tell them to get out quick!"

Comm:"Message away sir"

Yazin:"Chief is the modified probe ready?"

Carter:"Yes Sir, she's ready to launch"

Yazin:"Helm bring us in close, Carter launch on my Mark"

The ISS ships pulled back with the ravenous Gammulans heading after them, while the Lightspeed steadily grew closer to the center of battle

Yazin:"Tactical, Decloak and lower shields, Engineering vent plasma, I want to look like were hurt."

Tactical:"Sir?"

Yazin:"DO IT! Thats an order!"

The Gammulans upon seeing the Lightspeed decloak and apparently dead in the water, shifted targets and began heading toward the Lightspeed.

Tactical:"They are almost withing weapons range sir!"

Yazin:"Carter, FIRE!!"

Carter:"Its away!"

Yazin watched as the probe grew closer to the Gammulan fleet and then a blinding white flash filled the screen as all but one of the Gammulan warships were disentegrated in the firey blast of 15 simultaneously detonated nuclear devices.

Yazin:"Shields up! Helm turn us around quick!"

Tactical:"its too late Sir! We're gonna get hit by that blast!"

Yazin:"Everyone prepare for impact!"

The outer edge of the minature sun reached out and enveloped the Lightspeed in its firey touch. Blackness shrouded his vision as the sound of rending metal surrounded him. Then...... all was silent.

Carter:"..........Yazin, the shields came on in the last second, if....they hadn't......"

Yazin let out the breath he hadn't relized he was holding and said "that was close, too damn close, but we survived. Comm. report to the Nevermore inform Akira that the Gammulan threat has been neutralized and that we can now safely leave.

Helm:"Sir, Akira has taken control and were all jumping toward Neptune"

Comm:"Incoming message from the Nevermore sir"

Yazin:"Patch it through to the Bridge"

Akira:"Commanders, it doesn't look like we're going to win this one. You're looking at EARTHCOM's plans for the mineral this base is synthesizing. Yazin:"Comm. open a channel "Akira, only God knows when we will meet again, it has been an honor serving under you, good luck sir, and Godspeed.""

After the last shuttle had docked with the Lightspeed, Yazin watched as the Nevermore, and the rest of Raven group

disappeared with a silent bang.

Yazin:"Good bye, Commander Akira. Helm once all passengers are secured engage cloaking device and set a course for Sygan. Comm. inform all Insurgent vessels that we meet of what has transpired. I will be in my ready room if anything comes up."

With that Yazin left the bridge and went to his room and thought of all that had transpired.

Chavik looked at the destruction around him. Special forces had fared well but the Prime fleet had not. Even the raiders had done well. That was surprising. Usually they relied on strength of numbers but it appeared they actually knew how to fight. But so many ships lost, so many humans, that would be devastating for Galcom.

There was no more red on his Tacsan. Only friendly green and lots of grey. Disabled ships all. Some were Gammulan and were being towed to Orion HQ for seizure. Antti had been able to dock with Orion when the threat had cleared and freed up her launch bays. He had then sent the Guardian back to Spectre. "Miss Siamet, inform the Guardian's Flight Officer she is to escort the Phoenix. Also send to all ICV's that we are to group at the Lyrius wormhole." Wraith had regrouped at the Neptune jumpoint, Orion was centered around their station and what was left of Prime was milling about.

Twenty seven Galactan Class Battlecruisers jumped towards the wormhole. They positioned themselves around it and waited. For what they did not know. Chavik knew. The battle was seemingly over but he had his doubts. He knew the mines that Wraith had laid would not last forever. He knew he needed some word from Rattler. "Miss Siamet, send to First Light. DeSylva, I would like to hear from my commanding officer after you get done with your conference. We have twenty-six commanders who would like to know how our leader is doing. And tell him I have secured a ship for him. Antti is done with the Guardian. She is now his."

Chavik listened to other messages being bandied about while they were on the way to the wormhole. They were mostly barter posts. "I need this to repair and I have this to give." Typical military horse trading. But everyone seemed to be getting back together. One in particular caught his attention. Earthcom asking for reinforcements?

Just as he finished listening to the message ships began pouring through the wormhole. Gammulan Warships. "Broadband to ALL ships, Fire at WILL!!" Several ships had slipped thru before anyone had time to react. But with so many battlecruisers stationed at the Lyrius wormhole several ships were taken out. They kept coming though. Too many to catch them all. Many only took token damage as they went by. Chavik hoped Prime was ready for this new onslaught. He hoped he was. Gammulans pouring in, Rattler missing, Earthcom wanting reinforcements, from space even, what was Earthcom doing so far from Earth? He knew the had a few space vessels to catch smugglers and such but Neptune?

All these thoughts were pushed back in his mind as the Phoenix engaged battle once more.

<RP> OFF

Ok hope that helps. It seems the main Gammulan force has entered Jupiter just as Earthcom wanted reinforcements. TDF is engaged heavily now and can't send help to Earthcom thus allowing Akira to pull off his plan. Akira has also arrived in time to hear Earthcom's plea for help and goes ahead with his plan. Barging past the remaining Earthcom ships and taking out the base that maufacture the synth Iridium. The Graf Spee is still in Gammulan space raiding like crazy while the main force is away. Anyone have any problems? Let me know and I'll edit accordingly. <G>

Well, we've seen some developments in the past few days! Looks like Akira has pretty much pushed the envelope. It's time to start wrapping this up. I haven't had a chance to speak to Rattler, so this is one way to deal with the situation...

<RP>

The semi-darkness of his quarters was strange. Usually, DeSylva kept his quarters at full illuminaation, but somehow, this moment seemed right in darkness. Around him, DeSylva could feel the ship moving - dancing in the throes of battle. He should have been on the bridge, directing their dance. But there were damn fine men and women in charge in his absence, and now - for a littlw while - it was time to concentrate on other things. More important things.

The figure standing before him was battle-weary, but at the same time, proud. The flight suit he wore showed the tell-tale burn marks and flak damage that indicated the wearer had been through some kind of explosion - probably caught him in the Flight Deck just before launch, DeSylva thought. But the face wore a guarded smile. To his own suprise, DeSylva found that he was smiling as well. He reached for a bottle that had been stood on a small table in his quarters, in preparation, and smiled wider.

"I'm on duty, Rattler, but I remembered your preference..."

---

Alder Jones smelled trouble. And he knew that when he smelled trouble, it was time to start paying attention. He was feeling cooped up, stir-crazy. The massive battle going on in Jupiter was a space battle - his Omega Team of marines had little to do but wait, and watch. So, for the time being, he was fulfilling another role.

Making sure that Insurgent ******* behaved himself while on board.

Personally, he couldn't understand why the Commander hadn't shot him on sight. Not that that was, of course, something that Gareth DeSylva was wont to do under any circumstances, but he could have at least placed him in the detention hold! This TDF thing was a joke. Joining forces with the Insurgents. It was a stab in the back, was what it was, Alder thought, as he idly fingered his marine issue side-arm. The door to the commander's quarters was just in view from his vantage point, hidden in a recess in one corridor. No - there was no way that that scum was going to harm the Commander and walk out alive. Or with both knee-caps intact, anyway.

Alder smiled. He couldn't help it - he was vindictive at heart.

The double-beep that indicated that the door was opening sounded. He looked up, hand on his gun, to see Commander DeSylva stepping out of the quarters, followed by the Insurgent commander known as Rattler. To his amazement, they were both smiling. He had no idea what had transpired in that room - but for a few moments, he felt a burning urge to find out.

Then, it was gone. He quietly faded into the corridor and around a corner, invisible, like he had never even been there. It wouldn't do for the Commander to see him so jumpy, taking liberties like this. But it just wasn't right...

---

"Rattler, old friend - you have full ue of the communications suite in my quarters while you are here. I'll organise for a few of my more tolerant Systems Engineers to assist you. For now, though, I have to get to the bridge."

DeSylva's datapad beeped again. He looked down. "More messages from your people, Rattler - they want to talk to you. I suggest the first message you send be a notification that you are alright."

Rattler nodded in reply, as DeSylva turned to head towards the bridge. He felt free, freeer than he had in as long as he could remember. The bonds of hatred had been replaced, after so long, with the freedom of friendship. He was still smiling as the lift doors opened and he stepped out onto the bridge.

The smile didn't last for long. Every red light in the bridge was flashing, every alarm deafening him. He sprinted to his lowered command chair, vaulting into it, and was settling his VR visor and opening channels even as the chair rose to it's appropriate position.

"Damn it, what the HELL is going on?" he asked.

Kerra replied, her voice shaky. "Sir, we have Gammulans pouring in - it seems the ones in Polaris have just broken through, and worse, sir - " her voice was choked at this point - "we have reports of nuclear missile strikes on Neptune, sir."

DeSylva sat back in his chair as if he had been hit in the stomach. He was stunned. Nuclear weapons in Sol territory?

"Who?" he cried. Kera shook her head, before replying. "Our intelligence is slow - Ristar's piping it through to us as fast as he gets it - but preliminary reports indicate that the ships were TDF, sir."

DeSylva shook his head. "It can't be. They're allied."

Kerra turned her eyes towards the ground. "Sir - I'm sorry. We just got confirmation. It was the Raven group, sir - Insurgents. They were all destroyed, except for Raven 01, which launched five OTS missiles before fleeing the area. The surface base on Neptune, the one that Commander Ristar informed us about - was totally wiped out."

DeSylva closed his eyes slowly. Nuclear weapons, the long-standing bane of Terran science. They hadn't been used in Sol for as long as he could remember. But to be used, in Sol, against a live and populated target?

"Give me a full status report on Neptune, then, Kerra. And you, as well Abyrig."

The deep voice of his Combat Officer, Daniel Abyrig, replied. "I've scanned both Ristar's status reports, intelligence, and our own probe data. It appears that most of the Gammulans were on Neptune when the OTS barrage hit. The Gammulan forces in Neptune are mostly destroyed, sir. I don't think they got the plans - OR the synth-Iridium. We have finally managed to get word from the forces you stationed at Pluto. The Gammulans caught them by suprise sir - they didn't have time to get a message off. Most of them have been killed."

Dan's voice changed from business-like to more personal. "Commander - you had no choice. You had to send them in - the Gammulans would have walked straight into Neptune if they hadn't been stationed in Pluto. I'm truly sorry, sir."

DeSylva just nodded mutely. The first strikes were coming in from the last of the Gammulan forces to slip through from Polaris. He absently signalled for the Tactical Officer to take over the helm, before sinking into thought. He tapped a few buttons, and called up Rattler.

"Rattler, we have a problem. One of your boys just launched a nuclear missile strike on Neptune."

Rattler's eyes widened. "You must be joking."

DeSylva smiled a wry grin. "I wish I was. Akira did it - I know he was in charge of the 'Raven' group. The ship that launched the missiles was designated as Raven 01. The base on Neptune has been completely destroyed - so have the Gam forces. Akira is nowhere to be found - he left through Pluto, but he hasn't been seen since, and he was pretty badly damaged when he did so."

Rattler, too, sat back in his chair as if punched in the solar plexus. "I know Akira, DeSylva, and whatever you are thinking, he would have had good reason to take that action. He wouldn't have done it unless it was necessary!"

DeSylva shook his head, suddenly feeling very, very tired. "Whatever - it doesn't matter now. Once GALCOM hears of this, the TDF alliance is at an end. I'm truly sorry, old friend. We came so close."

Once, at the conlcusion of such a battle, with the Gammulans routed as they had been from Neptune, there would have been joy, and jubilation. Somehow, that was what DeSylva had expected. At the end of battle, there was always the laughing, the cheering, and the feeling of pride that you accomplished something, that somehow took the dark edge away from the memories of what the means were to accomplish the end. But this time, neither of them felt that. Rattler was as sombre as he. They both realised what it meant - an Insurgent ship using OTS weapons on Sol. Nuclear strikes, for the first time.

Terran killing Terran.

DeSylva terminated the connection, before turning to his commlink computer, and issuing a stream of orders. "Orion and Wraith fleets are to continue the fight here in Jupiter along with the 25th, 26th, and 27th Space Marine Battalions of Prime Fleet. The remainder of Prime Fleet is to move directly to Neptune, where all Gammulan ships are to be captured if possible, but destroyed if this becomes unfeasible. No ship is to leave the system. The remaining ISS forces are to come with me to Pluto, where there is some mopping up to do. It's time to finish this threat, boys and girls."

"ISS intelligence only - I need confirmation as to what happened at Neptune. Every word, every sensor trace, every whiff of Iridium. Find me the plans, find out whether the Gammulans got away with them, and find out who else had them. And once all of Sol is clear, cancel the evacuation orders. It's time to put GALCOM and Sol back into order."

The message board was already flashing - incoming messages from GALCOM Fleet Command. He knew what they would read. the TDF disbanded, the Insurgents once more on the run because of their attack on Jupiter. They had fought so hard, and lost so much. What for? Freedom? Somehow, freedom didn't get rid of the sour taste in his mouth and the sick feelig in his stomach. They had lost the Predicant, the Necromancer, as well as a lot of damage to Wraith Fleet and Prime Fleet. Akira's covert actions had lost at least three other ships, and reports were coming in adding to this number already. And Akira himself, missing in action. For what?

For peace. Desylva had to comfort himself. That was all he had left. Then the thought lifted him up, and helped lighten a little the gloom of what they had done, and what they had suffered. It had not just been for peace. DeSylva thought of Chavik, and Rattler, and Alun. It had also been for friendship...

</RP>

Well, let's have some concluding posts from everyone, now! the sooner we get this moppe up, the sooner I can make some recommendations and commendations. DeSylva out!

I've taken over a new BC from Orion HQ smile.gif

[rp on]

Junkkari: Inform all Terran ships that we have over 20 battlecruisers on Jupiter, and the area is finaly secured. Tell them I have taken over a new Battlecruiser, and it goes with this name.

Tell we are still keeping at Jupiter, of course. Giving some repairs to damaged ships.

Comms: Yes sir!

[rp off]

How do you guys like my new ship, it's "bear" in english wink.gif

Great story DeSylva. You linked everything together nicely. One quick correction: Akira's Raven Group consisted of 6 ships, each launching 5 OTS Bugnors at Neptune. Sorry I didn't make that clear, but I don't want anyone to think that Akira wasn't thorough in his work (if not a little mad at the time wink.gif)

Concluding Posts?? IÔÇÖm just getting started! wink.gif

The Marine Sergeant looked at his watch, two minutes to go before he had to wake up Commander Gallion. He thought about it for a second and decided to start a little early. The Sergeant buzzed GallionÔÇÖs commlink and waited. Commander Gallion nodded to the Sergeant as he departed his quarters. To the Marine Sergeant, his commander looked like he hadnÔÇÖt slept a wink. This didnÔÇÖt bother the Sergeant one bit. His destination was his Troop Quarters, time for him to get a much needed and well deserved rest.

GALLION: FO, set all probes to self destruct NOW! NAV, plot a course to Gamma 1. TACOPS, get a tactical snapshot of the Gamma 1 system before the probe self-destructs. I want a list of all available targets, space-born, ground-born, or anything. COMMS, contact the Prinze Eugen, get their status report, and pipe it to my console. CHIEF, meet me in the briefing room NOW!. Gallion OUT.

To some, it would seem that the Graf SpeeÔÇÖs Commander woke up on the wrong side of the bed. In actuality, Gallion did not sleep a wink. He spent the two undisturbed hours reviewing the report that Chief Engineer Scoot and Lt Edison wrote on the DeustchlandÔÇÖs BlackBox and the ÔÇ£newÔÇØ IFF modules received from Wraith HQ. Gallion and Mr. Scott arrived at the briefing room at the same time. Gallion turned to his mechanical wiz-kid and asked him one question;

GALLION: Mr. Scott are you absolutely positive about your conclusions in this report?

CHIEF ENG: Aye Sir, IÔÇÖd stake my life on it Commander.

GALLION: I hope it doesnÔÇÖt come down to that Mr. Scott but be prepared. Good work, sorry it took me so long to get to your report. You had any rest lately?

CHIEF ENG: No Sir, been fixing this bucket of ...

GALLION: Take a break Mr. Scott, Back at your station in 1 hour.

Gallion did not even wait for Mr ScottÔÇÖs reply, he stormed out of the briefing room heading towards the Bridge.

GALLION: COMMS prepare to copy;

GALLION: SEND it COMMS!!

COMMS: Message sent Sir

One hour to kill. Commander Gallion relaxed in his command chair and began to doze off. Dreams of sugar plums danced through his head (among other things). The rest of the crew continued to rotate, each crewmember taking the opportunity to take a break.

The hour had past. Gallion was completing his study of the last SNAPSHOT of Gamma-1 that the Graf SpeeÔÇÖs TACOPS Computer received just before the Probe self-destructed. The more he looked at the displayed, the more worried he became. The system-space was bare with the exception of one item, the Gamma Star Station orbiting Gamma-1. Only fitting he thought, the Gammulan homeworld should have some type defense. Gallion looked up Star Station GammaÔÇÖs capabilities in the TACOPS ComputerÔÇÖs Intel database. The Star Station itself was not a formable opponent Gallion thought, it was the starship complement contained within that Gallion was more concerned about: 2 x Storm Carrier assault Carries (12 fighters each); 2 x Warmonger Supercruisers; and the 30 mixed fighter complement. 4 capital ships, 54 fighters, and the Gamma Star Station weaponry; separately they are no match for Corsair WingÔÇÖs 2 Galatan Battlecruisers and 10 Starcruiser Heavycruisers. Together, things will be a little bit dicier than Gallion wouldÔÇÖve liked. The more Gallion pondered about the possible outcome of a battle in the Gamma system, the more worried and frustrated he became. Then he remembered the probe conversion he ordered what seemed like years ago. The Prinze Eugen had 10 probes converted, the Graf Spee had 3 probes converted to emit a Battlecruiser scanner signature. Gallion smiled his signature wicked smile as he turned towards the Bridge crew.

GALLION: NAV, plot a course to the Gamma 1 System, relay to the rest of Corsair Wing. TACOPS, FO, and COMMS meet me on the Private channel.

TACOPS, FO, and COMMS: Aye Sir

GALLION: This is what we are going to do people, when the WingÔÇÖs Hyperdrive engines have recharged after we reach the Gamma-1 system, the Graf Spee and the Prinze Eugen will launch all remaining Probes. The Probes will activate and programmed to jump randomly within the Gamma-1 System. As each probe launches and activates, one Corsair Wing ship will activate their CLOAKING device. When all ships have cloacked, the Graf Spee and CS-B1-5 will jump t Gamma-1 obtaining an orbit above the planet, these six ships will be code named Corsair 1. The remaining ships will be code named Corsair 2. Corsair 2 will close to within 3km of and engage Gamma Star Station with all weapons. After missiles stores have been depleted, Corsair 2 will jump back to the Tyrinis jump point. Corsair 1 will target the planet's surface, priority targets will be major population centers. Corsair 1 will DECLOAK and launch one OTS weapon per ship at the planets surface. After this, Corsair 1 will engage CLOAKING devices, target Gamma Star Station, and move to within 3kms. Corsair 1 will DECLOAK and launch all loaded missiles at the Star Station, engage CLOAKING devices the rejoin Corsair 2 at Tyrinis Jump Point. When Corsair 1 arrives at the Tyrinis jump point, Corsair 1 and Corsair 2 code names will no longer be used, the Wing will become one. Hopefully the probes will put the Star StationÔÇÖs spacecraft on a wild goose chase. It will look like there are 23 GALCOM vessels attacking this system. COMMS, relay this to each ship, TACOPS, FO coordinate with the rest of the Wing. Any questions??

The Graf SpeeÔÇÖs TACOPS, FO, and COMMS officer look at their commander as if he lost his mind. Slowly as each understood what Commander Gallion was doing, their opinions change. Each shook their head indicating that there were no further questions. Gallion smiled his evil-devilish smile, knowing each will do as he ordered, without question or hesitation.

GALLION: LetÔÇÖs get to people. Corsair Wing will jump in 3 minutes.

SHOWTIME, Gallion mused, time to really have some fun and to see what the Gams were really made off. Murphy and his antics never crossed the Corsair Wing LeaderÔÇÖs mind. Something that could have disastrous effects if it was not given the proper amount of attention due latter on....
