Eclipse
Is there a rank structure for ranks below commander on both GalCom and Insurgent that I could use to create the back history of the Eclipse and her crew?------------------ Cmdr. Badgerius
For officers, I've been keeping with the basic Navy structure:Ensign Lieutenant Lt. Commander CommanderAnd for Marines, I've been using Private Corporal Segeant etc.But I don't know if there's a structure for the non-Marine crew below Lt. ...------------------ Commander Badgerius, GCV Diligence On detached duty, GCV Calypso ICQ 48801556
Gallion
When in doubt I use the Navy Enlisted Rank Struture.SE1 - System Engineer 1 equals an E-1 (recruit)FE5 - Flight Engineer 5 equals an E-5 (PO2, Petty Officer 2nd Class)------------------ Cmdr. Guest Ron Wallin
If, I remember correctly a BC Cmdr. is equivalent to a USNavy Captain (i.e., in command of a BC).It's typical for a ship captain to have a second in command (XO). Since the grade below a USNavy Captain is a Commander, I just use XO and then follow the normal Navy chain listed above. However, being that DS is a Brit. and this is his game, he probably was thinking of a Brit ranking structure. I don't know that. Look it up if you need. The USNavy rank structure , aside from the Brit. rank of Cmdr. (again, Captain in the USNavy) seems to have been adopted. So here's the current *******ized Officer rank structure:Cmdr. (Captain or Colonel) XO (Equivalent rank of a USNavy Commander or Lt. Colonel in other branches of the US Mil.) Lt. Commander (Major) Lieutenant (Captain) Lt. Junior Grade (Lieutenant) Ensign (2nd. Lieutenant) I could be wrong about the Midshipman though... <--I was, thanx aramikeThe ranks above the Cmdr. (Flt., Tactical, etc.) are equivalent to the Admiral ranks. The ranks above Cmdr., though, are clearly spelled out in the manual. So don't use USNavy ranks for those. ------------------ Cmdr. Guest aramike01
A midshipman is a cadet. No commission.Commander--->Captian, Colonel XO---------->Commander, Lt. Colonel Lt. Cmdr---->Major Lieutenant-->Captain Lt. J.G.---->1st Lt. Ensign------>2nd Lt.I do believe that in the Navy, a rank of Captain (O-6) isn't required to command a ship. As I recall, some of the Marine transport vessels were commanded by LTC's. ------------------ Commander Michael Kristophers Spectre Fleet ICV-Intrepid[This message has been edited by aramike01 (edited 02-16-2000).]
Ben Somerset
In fact, IIRC, most US attack submarines are commanded by Commanders (O-5). Ballistic missile subs are commanded by Captains (O-6). At last I heard, Ristar was coming up with a definitive rank structure (at least for the GCN). Any progress, Ristar?------------------ Cmdr. Cmdr Ristar
I have the rank structure and unit structure already developed and sent to the SC. I have been on business trips and then I had all my wisdom teeth pulled last week or I would have completed the Fleet unit structure, but I'll get that done this week and to the SC, I know I'm behind. If the SC wants I will post the rank structure and unit structure here on the commlink, or he can do that in his own way, it's up to him. I've gotten Wraith Fleet and ISS Fleet done, I've gotten the information I need from Orion and Prime Fleet, I just need to put it onto the program I was using for ISS and Wraith. Once I get that done I'll email it all to the SC for final approval.Once again sorry for the delay.Fleet Cmdr.Jeehun Ristar
