GALCOM NEWS SERVICES

GALCOM Command Officials were saddened today to announce the assassination

of one of their highest ranking officials.

Fleet Commander Gareth DeSylva, and his wife Commander Emma Norbury, were

killed in an explosive blast aboard Warmage, the Earth Command headquarters.

They were part of a GALCOM delegation visiting Earth Command officials.

Evidence of intentionally planted explosive devices was discovered on the

scene. Several hours ago, a suspected Insurgent assassin was discovered,

dead by poison, in an accommodation facility on the station.

Fleet Commander DeSylva was the founding member of the InSystem Support

Fleet, and all fleet members were present at a memorial service for him

earlier today, where a casket honouring himself and his wife was launched

into space. The casket was escorted by the Interceptors of the GCV First

Light, the ship that DeSylva made famous. DeSylva served as the First

Light's Commander, and Emma as it's Chief Medical Officer. Their remains

could not be recovered from the damaged quarters aboard Warmage.

Fleet Commander Jeehun Ristar, DeSylva's right-hand man, will take over command of the InSystem Support

Fleet, assisted by long time friend and colleague of DeSylva, Commander Alun

Tringad. The command of the First Light was handed over several months ago

to Commander Gary Renwick, and while it is now no longer the ISS Flagship,

it will remain a part of the ISS Fleet.

All GALCOM members join in condemning the Insurgent movement for their

heinous attack on GALCOM officials. We also send our condolences to the ISS,

the First Light, and all friends and family of Fleet Commander Gareth

DeSylva, and Commander Emma Norbury.

In a wide band transmission Insurgent One issued the following statement.

"Gentlemen and Ladies of the Sol System. DeSylva was my friend. The Insurgency would never have sanctioned nor acted in such a manner. I only ask the following questions. How would an Insurgent get so deep into the bowels of Earthcom to commit such an act. Which Insurgent would knowingly violate my standing orders and attack a target that would guarantee their own destruction at my hands? The answer is obvious. No Insurgent would. That leaves us with one answer. Who in Galcom/Earthcom would stand to gain the most with DeSylva's death? Again the answer is obvious to myself. Who now claims ISS as their personal property? Who now hunts Insurgents for personal gain? You may draw your own conclusions to this answer. I leave this in the hands of justice. I have my own Ideas and I will personally pursue DeSylva's killer to the ends of the Universe if necessary. He WILL Pay!"

I know who the attacker was. Once I get past the end of the semester projects, I'll let you know. Be prepared for the shocking news.

To the families of Fleet Cmdr DeSylva and his wife Emma. I wish to express the deepest consolations on behalf of GALCOM and the ISS Fleet on your loss. DeSylva was one of my closest friends, I served with both he and Emma on my first tour of duty. He brought me into the ISS during it's conception and he has been a trusted friend to me in many of my endeavors. We have lost a great commander and friend. I resolve to see the murderer brought to justice. I do not know if this is an Insurgent matter or any other nations assassination attempt, but we will find out.

It is indeed a sad day. DeSylva made enemies only of those with no sense of honour. All of us in the ISS fleet (and across all other fleets I am sure) are deeply saddened to see dishonourable men succeed in this way, and we are all far more deeply determined to see that justice is done. There will be no end to the investigation until we have found the culprit(s), and there will be no haven safe enough to hide them forever. They will be found, and will be called to account for this most cowardly of crimes.

GCAFN GalCom Armed Forces News-Lyrius

The GCAFN is saddened to report the death of a high ranking Fleet Command official. Fleet Commander Gareth DeSylva and his wife were killed by assasains earlier today while attending a diplomatic conference at Earth Command Headquarters.

Wrath PAO (Public Affairs Office) issued this statement:

"At this time, investigation has lead us to believe that this plot against Fleet Commander DeSylva was precipitated by elements of the Insurgency. Whether this was sanctioned by the Insurgent Command is unknown at this time, but believed to be possible.

Fleet Commander DeSylva served GalCom well during his life, saving the Sol system in the Gammulan Incursion of 3000, and forming the ISS Fleet during the 2990's. His loss is a great detriment to the GalCom Military, and condolences go out to the friends and family of the perished Fleet Commander and his wife."

In a nearly unprecedented incident, Wrath SS CO Commander Benjamin Somerset, who does not speak to the press, issued this statement through the PAO:

"Today, a great officer, and a great friend has perished. I met Gareth DeSylva, and came to know him as not only an excellent Commander, but as a good friend. This incident with the Insurgency is horrific, and saddens me deeply.

I personally do not believe that high ranking Insurgency officials sanctioned this act, however. Gareth DeSylva is the man who saved the Sol System in 3000 by bringing the Insurgency and GalCom together to fight a common foe. It is my belief that those Insurgent figures that made such an agreement with honorable intentions, would never go back on such a trust.

DeSylva was a man that all GalCom military officers could emulate. A man of caring, dedication, duty, and an impeccable sense of honor. My condolences go out to his family, and pray that DeSylva and his wonderful wife are in a far better place. May they rest in peace."

Maxamillian hadn't felt emotion for anything for a very long time, but Gareth had been a true friend. There would be hell to pay for this atrocity and with all the assets of Prime Fleet's G2 he was the one to dish it out. The evidence all pointed to the Insurgency just a little too neatly. An Insurgent assassin had been found poisoned at the site and that was just too convenient. Insurgent One had issued a statement that there had been no Insurgency involvement, but what else was he to do.

MAX would have to put his assets on the line and work with the Insurgent G2 to get to the bottom of this quickly. If there was a renagade faction within the Insurgency then it had to be uncovered. There were many new personel being recruited into all the Fleets that had little knowledge of the role that Gareth played in the Grammulan war of 3000.

Both Galcom and the Insurgency had joined together to fight the common enemy. There would be mutual co-operation to seek out the culprit or culprits responsable for this heinious crime.

MAX hurried to get the wheels in motion.
