"Sir."

My eyes were forcefully opened by fingers that were extremely cold. My vision was very blurred, so I could hardly see a thing.

"Sir!"

The voice was more forceful this time. I tried to raise my left arm, but it wouldn't move. It just lay there, not responding at all.

I also noticed it was bitterly cold. So cold, in fact, that I was rapidly feeling less and less sleepy. Within seconds, I had sat up, rubbed my eyes, and was trying to wrap up in a blanket. A blanket which someone was putting around me.

I looked up, and saw Mulgrey putting her arms around me. She helped lift me up off the deck. "Come on, Sir. We've got to get out of here. Life support is off-line, so the ship is starting to lose heat rapidly. Most of the crew is gathered in Sickbay. Come on sir, we need to get you there."

She pulled me up, causing me to wince with pain. Not only was my whole left arm now in searing pain, but my stomach and head were also erupting in pain as well. I didn't feel to good, that's for sure.

Slowly, but surely, we made our way to the turbolift shaft.

---------------

Getting to sickbay was a long, tiring and above all quiet journey. Niether me nor Mulgrey said a word the entire time.

The climb down the turbolift shaft had practically exhausted me, and the cold hadn't done much good either.

However, I was finally huddled up in the relative warmth of Sickbay. Mulgrey had informed me that, so far, she had found a total of twenty four survivors, but she suspected that there were more below decks, and she had a number of search teams out looking for them.

The lack of heat and the thinning oxygen, though, was a constant factor, and Mulgrey was working with Chief Engineer Keldon to use the emergency batteries to bring the life support systems online.

I, however, was simply lying down on the deck of sickbay. My thoughts drifted again. Soon, I again fell asleep.

This has turned into some sort of weird movie, er, sideshow drama. I, Cmdr. Wold and the remaining bridge officers, well, for that matter, the rest of the crew were glued to the monitors. On a split screen one side showed the horror of the GCV-Deterence and the two shuttles docking and on the other side was the light and missle show between Sarks, Nevermore, Tenchi, and Necromancer.

The all hail comm light flashed again and Ngyuen punched it through to my console. Ngyuen sees me nod my head her direction and punches up a comm link with ICV-Necromancer.

******************

Insurgent One, this is Cmdr. Wold of ICV-Drakr. We are on stand-by with weapons hot. We will NOT fire unless ordered by you. Cmdr. Wold out.

******************

The away team has reached the interior of the GCV-Deterence. The team breaks up into small groups and heads off to different tasks. Medical Officer Karen, two medics and a marine head to sick-bay. Five other teams consisting of one medic, marine, and a system engineer, head off into opposite directions.

The bridge screen on the Drakr splits into six frames being fed from a helmet cam carried by each marine. The carnage shocked everyone on the Drakr into silence. How could anyone be alive? Deckplates twisted, support beams smashed through rooms and halls, walls buckled, electric circuits sparking, broken pipes bleeding, and a few people or what was left of them.

I must have muttered "What's wrong here?" for everyone turns and looks at me with a puzzled look. An ensign responds "Sir, what do you mean 'what's wrong here', their ships been smashed!"

I shake my head and answer back, "No, not that, I mean why aren't there more people? Either casualties are lighter then the damage suggests or that ship was light on crew." Everyone turns back to the screen and wonders the same.

Karen and her team have finally reached sickbay which miraculously seems intact. She rushes over to one person laying on the floor and begins running a med scan. After the scan completes she roles him onto a blanket. She beckons the marine to point the camera closer to her patient. The screen shows a ranking officer, in fact the ship's commanding officer and the name of Cmdr. Hamblin?

My tactical officer pulls up the known commander list and shrugs. "Sir, He is listed in our database as 'retired'. If he is the commander then I don't know what ship that is but it isn't the GCV-Deterence 'cause we know that Cmdr. Foss is on the Deterence."

"Logistix, get power on the transporter and dispatch all remaining medics there with a marine escort. NOW!"

Punching the commlink button for Karen I get a quick "Yes Sir?"

"Karen, let us know as soon as a patient is stable enough to beam over. I have medics at the transporter ready to take them to our sickbay. Any able bodied person may choose shuttle or transporter. That ship may still blow and I want everyone off of there ASAP!"[/rp]

Okay Hamblin, they are your people so you can fill in the rescue details. wink.gif

It would be nice to have this Akuma Minako among us. Who knows what knowledge we can use from her.

Akuma Minako lay on her back staring up at the roof. He mind wanders back to her 18th year...She closes her eyes and turns to face the wall, in her arm she is clutching her brother's picture.

She closes her eyes. "It isn't fair." She sniffs.

The ship rocks from weapon fire...She clutches the picture tighter. "It isn't fair."

She holds the picture away from her then turns and throws it against the far wall near the burned out comms unit.... It shatters sparkling for moments in the flourecent lights.

She then pulls out a small pocket knife from her uniform pocket and opens up the razor blade. "I'm a fool, I've gotten myself in too deep...Maybe I do need sleep, I nice, long, sleep..."

She places it against her wrist and slowly draws it accross.

"We are approaching the jump point, sir." Berringston said. "Standing by for jump."

It was right about then that the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. I think that the pure obsurdity of the situation was finally catching up to Yours Truly. There was no way that this sort of thing should be happening unless there was something else involved. Of course, it could happen if I were dealing with a very naive Commander, something that Akuma had very well shown herself to be. But no one could be this naive, could they?

It didn't really matter. Whether she was or not, it was still a dangerous situation that we could be entering into. It could be getting worse by the minute, and may already be a hundred times worse than I was thinking.

"Radiation containment crews, stand by. Engage cloak. Berringston, take us in."

"Aye, sir."

The Deterrence vanished, emerging seconds later in the Jupiter Region. I'm not exactly sure what I expected to find upon our arrival in Jupiter. What we did find, however, was a lot worse than any optimistic idea that my mind had managed to come up with, though.

(/RP)

Well, I have finally arrived under cloak. This should be interesting. I would present a sitrep, and for the record, I have arrived just after Akuma's last post, naturally. I have to bolt for work now, however. Ciao, and will reply to whatever happens between now and when I get home. smile.gif

Sorry gang, I've been distracted for the last few days thanks to work, The Basement, private development work, excessive womanising and the odd hour or two of sleep. However, I now have half a day with absolutely NOTHING to do, so expect a major update shortly. Ron, Rattler, remember those things we discussed? I'm gonna start putting events into motion. Akuma, we really need to talk about where this is going.

The GCV Tsunami, under the command of Fleet Commander Savage breached the exit mouth of the in system jump gate and ploughed into the Jupitor region. Seconds later, standing beside his tactical officers station, he took stock of the grim situation.

"Oh hell," started Savage, looking left to right accross the tactical stations visual display. "looks like we in poorer shape that I thought."

From where he stood, he ascertained that the Orion fleet, at least, those Orion fleet commanders who were present in the Jupitor region, were in trouble. The GCV Galetea, under the command of his friend James Hamblin was dead in space, and surrounded by wave after wave of Insurgent shuttlecraft. The GCV Sark, commanded by his executive officer also present, looked as if it had sustained substantial surface damage, but was inactive.

It's obvious theres been a firefight here, but why didnt Greg retaliate?

The answer came to him instantly. Obvious, really. Talk about being outgunned, thought Savage. Theres gotta be at least four cloaked Insurgents out there. He must have been sitting back, buying time for my arrival. Swell.

"Comms, raise the Sark for me."

"Aye sir." said the communications officer. Savage went back to examining the tacops readout.

The Tenchi, commander Akuma's ship was in trouble. Being tractored by Insurgent shuttles, to an unknown destination, it was rapidly being dragged out of the engagement area, and not resisting. According to his scans of the Tenchi, her shields were active, weapons were hot .... but no fire.

She's turned, thought Savage. We've lost her to the enemy.

Anger boiled up in Fleet Commander Savages face. He wore a grim, pained expression on his face and the emotion of the betrayal was clearly evident for all those on the bridge to see. He clenched his fists into balls, and thumped down three times hard on the tacops display. Daniels at the helm turned in his chair and looked startled at his commanders outburst. Savage flashed him a look that would bring a cadet to tears, and the helmsman rapidly turned back to his console.

"Sir?" said the comms officer. "I've got Miller on channel."

Savage looked up at the viewscreen, his face just as angry and contorted as it was before. "Helm, put us on an intercept course with the Tenchi, maximum thrust. Comms, patch Miller through."

Miller's tired looking face appeared on screen. "It's good to see you, sir." he said. "Wish you could have got here sooner, though. So much for a little recovery operation."

Savage nodded at his Xo. "Status?" he said.

Miler began to recite the most important information regarding the current engagement. "Sir, we are dealing with a

minimum of seven Insurgent contacts. The ICV Nevermore, under the command of Akira has been battering the Tenchi senseless. However, we also has confirmation that Rattler is here too sir."

Rattler, here?

"Flyin with an escort wing of at least four cruisers. We can also confirm at least one other Insurgent in the area, although we dont know what ship it is."

"So we got at least seven Insurgent hostiles, one renegade officer and one dead Galcom cruiser. At least."

Miller nodded on screen. "At least sir. And sir, the Nevermore fired on us without provocation, going against Rattlers orders."

This surprised Savage. It wasnt like Rattlers no.1 to go against his friend and comrade.

"I think he's makin it personal, sir. He came at me with everything he had. We barley got out of it with our skins intact. Hamblin didnt."

Savage looked back down at the tacops display. It was evident that Rattlers shuttles were attempting to take control

of what was left of the Galetea, while more were pulling the Tenchi out of the immediate area.

"It's not good, sir." said Miller. "But regardless, we're ready to engage on your command."

Savage sighed. "We're on a direct intercept with the Tenchi, Greg. Theres no way in hell I'm letting her defect with them."

Miller frowned. "Sir, im not 100% sure thats what she's doing. The Tenchi and the Nevermore were pounding eachother quite hard until the shuttles got into place and began towing her away."

"Then why is he just allowing it to happen now? No, she's turned, and if we cant drive off the aggressors and take custody of her ourselves, I'll burn that ship to ashes."

Miller looked shocked. "Sir, what about the crew? They cant all be willing to defect with her."

Savage shook his head. "We get one shot at this Greg, and if we dont get control over this situation, we take them out. One and all."

Miller stepped closer to the viewscreen, almost as if he wanted to speak privately with his commanding officer.

"Sir, arent you taking this a little too personally? Punish Akuma for her crime, but the ship? The crew? Theres over a hundred people on that ship."

Savages anger got the better of him. "Dammit Greg, havent you been paying attention? We are in a state of war. We got the Gams pushing us back to the home systems, raiders taking advantage of the lack of escort pillaging our relief transports, and now Insurgents stealing our own so when the dust settles with the gams, they can hit us hard

and bury Galcom. I will NOT allow one of my officers to be taken by those *******s. Not now, not ever."

Miller swallowed. He'd never seen Savage quite as wound up as he was now. "Sir, if we go after that ship, we're as good as dead. Rattler gave explicit orders to his people that anyone interfering with the Tenchi, Galcom OR Insurgent will be taken out. Sir, he's got the firepower to do it, and he's probably already ordered his ships to

intercept you."

Savage nodded. "They wont find me quite as easy to kill as Hamblin, and Rattler knows this."

"Sir, with all due respect, theres no way you can repel that sort of firepower. You may get the Tenchi, but they will get you for sure."

"Maybe." said Savage. "But we not licked yet. I have a trick or two still up my sleeve."

As if on que, a tight band coded communication found it's way to the Tsunami and alerted the fleet commander to a

very important update.

"Miller, Foss is on station under cloak. I'm relaying escort instructions to him. He's gonna earn his pay this day and cover my ass, just like the Deterrence battle Group should do. For your part, I want you go engage the Nevermore. She still outguns you, but you should be able to do enough damage to force Rattler to call off some of

his escort dogs from going after me. It evens up the odds a bit, and gives me some room to maneuver to end this."

Miller sighed, not entirely happy with his instructions. "I will obey, of course sir, but Im not happy with this."

"Neither am I Greg, but it has to be done. Good luck, and dont get dead. Savage out."

With that, the link was terminated.

Now I've commited myself, thought Savage. Hell, maybe I should be commited. Is greg right? Am I taking this personally?

It didnt matter now. The Tsunami was three minutes from intercepting the Tenchi. In all liklihood, Rattlers hidden escort wing was bearing down on him under cloak, attempting desperately to gain some ground before *attempting* to burn him up. Regardless of the outcome, the Tenchi would either be recovered within the next five minutes, or

destroyed utterly. In all liklihood, the Tsunami would burn up with her. But not without one helluva fight.

"Are we venting as planned?" asked Savage.

"Yes sir." said the tacops officer. "Dispersion is as expected. Not currently detecting anything in the wake. So

far, we clear."

"Keep the rear turret hot. The second I give the order, I want the sky lit up."

The tactical officer nodded. "Yes sir."

Savage stepped back to his command chair and sat. He looked hard at the viewscreen, and wondered how the next few minutes would go.

"Time to intercept with the Tenchi?" he asked.

"Two minutes, eighteen seconds." reported the navigator.

Two minutes eighteen seconds, thought Savage. Perhaps time enough for one final miricle .....

[/RP]

Ok, I've put a few things in motion here that is setting up for the finale. Those of you in the know, well, you know

where this is gonna lead. The pieces need to be set in place, but there isnt anything commital happening right now.

Set it up, but try not to instigate anything too serious right now. Things look messy, but theres still one big surprise yet to come. smile.gif

Back to the fold..

[RP]

With the news of the Deterrence now on station, the situation seemed a little better. For a change, Orion numbers were starting to catch pace with the Insurgents. However, the Galatea, was sure not on the Orion list, or if it was..as good as useless.

Speaking of the Galatea, I was concerned about James. His ship took a pounding, and looked more like a stricken ship in the reserve yard, than an active Cruiser. I would have liked to assist Hamblin, but I got my orders. At that moment, I swore to myself that if Hamblin was still alive, I would pull as many strings as I could to get that ship refitted and spaceworthy once again. Of course this was assuming I was returning home after this.

First I need my XO/Tac officer back, and at his post. Ken is a good Tactical officer, but Lt. Cmdr Sean Collins is the best on this ship, and when you go up against the Nevermore, you have to be at your best; You only get one shot!

I immediately punched an open channel from my chair.

ÔÇ£Sean, your mission has been scrapped. Please report to the bridge and relieve Lt. Cmdr Barsotti at the Tactical Station.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£At once sir, on my way!ÔÇØ

As soon as Sean took his station, and Ken went back to his station, I immediately started barking orders like a mad dog!

ÔÇ£This is it folks, we are to engage the Nevermore, and show that damn Crow, birds shouldnÔÇÖt mess with a shark, or better yet, a SARK!

Engineering, I need a status report!ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Sir, Shields are holding at 59%, slowly charging. Hull integrity remains at 88%. IOD, PTA, fully functional. Launch rails and mine launcher ready to go. Reactor, main engines, nominal. Hyperdrive currently offline, but working on it. Cloak is available. Maneuvering thrusters are still a little shaky for the last high speed 180. Please keep those to a minimum, we canÔÇÖt sustain much more of them. We may be down, but we certainly arenÔÇÖt out, yet. We wonÔÇÖt be able to hold out as much as we could, but we will make a run of it.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Good, donÔÇÖt worry about the Hyperdrive, just keep those shields up as best you can, Miller out!ÔÇØ

Now on my mark.

Tactical, load vagrants, charge IOD, PTA. Lock all weapons on the Nevermore and drop the EMD. And get those ICÔÇÖs Spaceborne. Instruct them to only ÔÇ£PesterÔÇØ the Nevermore, but not directly engage her As soon as we are in range, fire all missiles, and stand ready to light up the heavens with the guns.

Helm, get us on an intercept course for the Nevermore, 1/3rd impulse power.

Comms, I need a ship wide hail.ÔÇØ

Just then a barrage of ÔÇ£Aye Sir!ÔÇØ rang throughout the bridge. I studied the Tacops display and plotted my moves, and then sat straight up in my chair and addressed my crew.

The order has been given, and we are to head the call. Our chances are slim, but possible. We have all been primed for this day, and knew sooner or latter, it was coming. Everyone stay alert, stay safe, for the Nevermores act of aggression will not go unanswered any longerBATTLESTATIONS!

With that off my chest, I ordered the channel cut and with out a break in stride, gave one final last order before the pending storm roared out of control..ENGAGE!

With in seconds, the huge hulk of the Sark, lined up and was on a direct course for the Nevermore. The maneuvering thrust growled as they valiantly fought of fatigue to carry out their orders. Four ICÔÇÖs had also taken to space and were trailing behind, but not far. And as Soon as the Sark was within missile range, 20 Vagrants left the launch rails, also seeking out the Nevermore.

ÔÇ£Sir, missiles away, optimum firing range in 1 minute.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Fire at will, weapons free!ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Sir, optimum range achieved.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£FIRE all weapons!ÔÇØ

Just then the Sark let open with all she had, and I was hoping, it would be enough.

Kirin stayed silent his heart pounding. All I want are some orders! Anything!

"Sir! The GCV Tsunami is on course for our ship! Weapons hot!"

Kirin just stared. "Oh $@#!$#@@#$ what now?" He shook his head violently and stood up. "Communications get me a patch to the GCV Tsunami and make it damn clear that we must speak to them!"

"Yes sir!" The communications sent the message. "We've got a link."

Kirin nods and leans forward. "Commander." He begins his face serious as he sits back down in his seat. "We are only doing what's best for the fleet. If your weapons are trained on us I suggest you power down immedietly." He pauses. "Rattler called for a cease fire, we're doing just that. Hasn't there been enough blood shed?"

He gestures off screen. "The ships out there, insurgent or otherwise are pulling us out of harms way, no doubt they'll help the other vessels as well."

He lowers his eyes. "No offence sir, but would you mind telling me why you'd even care if we did defect? I'm sure you didn't act this way when others did."

"Sir, the Sark has acquired a firing solution."

"Status of the minfield?" Chavik had taught Spectre well how to lay down a curtain of mines to cover one's tail. Akira was curious if it would realy work.

"Cmdr., we have 75% reporting active. Rattler's IC's have pulled back after taking major damage at the fringe." Rattler wasn't going to like that and Akira knew it. Rattler's feelings, however, would have to wait. Insurgent One has spent too much time playing politics with the Insurgency. He shouldn't have stepped in when he did. Hell, he shouldn't have been here at all, Akira thought.

He'd have to wait till the next Command Staff meeting to discuss battle tactics. Space was changing and the size of Spectre was indicating change was necessary within. Akira would use this day as an example.

"Sir, the Sark is firing." Don't be so foolish to charge on your own, Miller.

"Tactical, how many unknown ships have entered the region?"

"At least two, sir. I'd have to check the logs for any I missed while calculating the minefield."

"Negative. He's here. Out there. Somewhere. Cmdr. Miller wouldn't be so bold as to take on the Nevermore alone were he not trying to impress his boss. Time Sark's time to minefield?"

"Thirty seconds at the current speed."

"Combat, pull the reserves from the shuttles and cargo bays. I want everything ready to be refilled once ports are open. Tactical, give me a kill solution on the Sark. I want his ship drifting dead in space five seconds after he passes through the curtain. Providing he makes it that far."

Sheilds at 75%, launch IC's 1 through 4. Combat, give me one marine patrol per deck on constant search. Atack plan Omega 7, everyone. Hunker down and make the few that get through look like they hurt us."

The bridge crew responded in unison. Clacks reverberated through the bridge as everyone attached restraints. Two long range probes with datapacks launched. The Nevermore was the perhaps the most invulnerable Insurgent ship in the Spectre fleet, possibly in the whole of terran space as well.

Akira never left things to chance, though. The Nevermore was not just any weapons platform. It doubled as Akira's thinktank. More technical assets came from the crew of RE's than most of the Insurgency combined. Akira wasn't about to let that data be harmed. Knowledge was power. Akira kept a lot of power.

Explosions buffeted the Nevermore as the Sark's missiles began exploding against the curtain of mines. Akira looked at the apparatus attached to his chair. It would so easy for him to hook up to the command technology and vector in every Insurgent craft on the Sark. Like a god playing chess, Akira could coordinate the actions of as many warships the Fleet Commander desired.

He drove that desire into the pit of his stomach. Rattler had urged him to get rid of that device so many times. And just as many times, Akira fought to keep it. He could win this one without the Command module. It was necessary, like the thousands of times since that day more than a decade ago, that he took care of this without the enhanced fleet control.

The Nevermore rocked a little harder this time.

"Reseting shields to 65% per Omega 7. The Sark has reached the minefield and has slowed to allow for it's IC's to open an hole," reported the Tactical Officer.

"Help him. Launch 5 vagrants. Do as much damage as possible. Make sure the last get's through."

"Aye, sir. 5 darts away." The nevermore shook harder this time.

"Lucky shots, sir," Tactical remarked.

Akira could hear the stress in her voice. This game of chicken was the hardest to play. Omega 7 required that his crew bring the Nevermore's shields to 3% manually as the attacker pressed. The ruse was meant belie the true nature of the Nevermore's modifications.

"Shields at 42%."

"Flight Officer, let's make it harder for the missiles to hit. We don't want Miller to think this is too easy."

The bridge crew swayed as the pilot repostioned the Nevermore. A few missles impacted the hull, but more were hitting the mines now.

"Shields adjust to 10%. The Sark has punched a hole through the curtain. She's on her way."

"Very good." Another missle impacted where it would do serious damage to helm control on a normal BC. "Blow the false hull around that impact and begin venting gas."

"F.O., ahead half speed and make it look like we're hurt. PTA's on manual and at 15%." The gunners in the PTA turrets were instructed to make the stream hit at random and no more than to cause the Sark to evade a little but urge its commander to press on. With the listing course the F.O. was flying, the hitting was harder than missing for the humans.

"Tactical, count down the range. F.O. Bring the nose around with the countdown, but don't make it obvious. Everyone at the ready. On my mark, full sheilds, full PTA. Rain fire on the Sark. I want her disabled and disabled hard. Fleet Commander Blades should be just behind him. Be ready. We don't end the Sark until he shows his face."

Tactical began the countdown. In a few seconds the Sark would emerge slowly from the minefield and be just within range. At that moment, she'd understand just how foolish a move she'd made.

All eyes and sensors not currently tasked to rescue were one the small skirmish. No one, not even the cloaked three ship patrol waiting to back up Akira noticed the 4 Warmongers slip into the system. They were cloaked the moment they came through.

4 silent attackers made their way across the jupiter system well below Akira's curtain defense. They were well aware of his tactic and knew when best to attack. They wouldn't be able to save the Sark, but than, no one really could. Not even the two Orion ships hurrying to her aid.

It didn't really matter. Their mission had nothing to do with the safety of GALCOM vessels in the area. They had one goal in mind. This time they were not going to fail.

Oh heck, what the hell else am I supposed to do? My ship's crippled, I'm unconscious, and I didn't take the chance to play "ride of the valkeries" while we were making our attack run, 'cos that would have been really cool! Hehehe... smile.gif

So, basically, my crew's rescued, my ship's salvaged, etc, etc...and my part in this story is over. smile.gif

"Sir, we're receiving orders from Fleet Commander Savage. We're to form up and provide support to the Tsunami. They're heading toward the Tenchi at full speed as we speak."

I frowned. I hadn't expected that. Why would he be moving so fast? There were a few reasons, but one of them stood out over all the others... He couldn't be intending to... could he?

Absolutely!

"Comms, open a coded channel to Fleet Commander Savage immediately!"

These are short mainly due to the fact that I have had little free time lately. This situation will be remedied within a week or two. I will still post, but they will mostly be brief. Blades, I need to talk to you about a conversation I intend to have with you in short order about Akuma. I will contact you asap.

ÔÇ£Sir, incoming communication from the Tenchi.ÔÇØ

Savage frowned. Obviously, the Tenchi's current commander was getting nervous.

As well you might, thought Savage.

ÔÇ£Patch it through.ÔÇØ He ordered, and faced the viewscreen.

Moments later, the TenchiÔÇÖs executive officer, Kirin, if he remembered correctly came into view.

ÔÇ£Commander, we are only doing whats best for the fleet. If your weapons are trained on us, I suggest you power them down immediately.ÔÇØ

You suggest? Who the hell are you to suggest anything to me?

ÔÇ£Rattler called for a cease fire, we're doing just that. Hasn't there been enough blood shed?ÔÇØ

Ceasefire? HasnÔÇÖt he been keeping up with current events?

ÔÇ£The ships out there, insurgent or otherwise are pulling us out of harms way, no doubt they'll help the other vessels as well. No offence sir, but would you mind telling me why you'd even care if we did defect? I'm sure you didn't act this way when others did.ÔÇØ

That did it. ÔÇ£Who the hell are you to ask me these questions? What the hell do you know about fleet defections? At no time since IÔÇÖve been in command of this fleet has one of my officers turned traitor and joined the Insurgency. And I donÔÇÖt know who you think I am, Kirin, but I will be damned if IÔÇÖm going to let one of my people ÔÇÿdefectÔÇÖ. You will signal your Insurgent ÔÇÿsavioursÔÇÖ and tell them to get clear from the worthless hulk of the Tenchi, or I will personally burn them and you to the ground. You have two minutes to surrender. End communication ÔǪ.. traitor.ÔÇØ

With that, Savage severed to comlink, grabbed a conveniently close by datapad and threw it with incredible force and anger across the bridge.

Arrogant little *******! Who the hell does he think he is?

It didnÔÇÖt matter. Not any longer. The course was set, the pieces were all in place. The day would end in blood. It was just a question as to how much blood, and whoÔÇÖs was spilled.

ÔÇ£Time to the Tenchi?ÔÇØ barked Savage.

ÔÇ£Sir! Two minutes thirty and counting. We will be within missile lock range in fifty seconds. Tenchi EOD reads cold. We got a clear firing solution.ÔÇØ

Savage sneered. ÔÇ£Load up the asswhuppers. Hold our course steady. If anything gets in our way, I want it dead. Bring our shields to maximum, and get the damage control crews ready to patch any leaks.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Aye sir.ÔÇØ Came the reply from his bridge officers.

Savage sat back, and watched the ETA digital readout diminish.

ÔÇ£Sir!ÔÇØ it was the comms officer. ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖre being hailed by the Deterrence. Foss wants a word.ÔÇØ

Savage shook his head. He knew this was coming. He didnÔÇÖt want to have this conversation. All he required of Foss was obedience. Compassion would have to come at a later date. Today was not the day to be compassionate.

ÔÇ£Signal the Deterrence Im busy. Tell Foss to follow his orders.ÔÇØ

At that moment, two unexpected things happened. The first was a sudden, and highly unexpected datapacket burrowing itÔÇÖs way through normal communications channels and directly into the Fleet Commanders private unit. The second, was an alert from his tactical officer that several unidentified ÔÇÿblipsÔÇÖ had just entered the system under cloak, and vanished from active scanners.

More Insurgents IÔÇÖd wager, thought Savage. Why the hell not? Most of Spectre seems to be here already, why not bring in a few bunnies to overkill the overkill?

As the datapacket began to decode itself, Savage paid close attention to the unscrambled text. Line by line, he read it as it came through. Piece by piece, the puzzle began to unravel before his eyes.

From Commander Minako, marked for my eyes only. Sinceer apologies .. misunderstanding .. wasnt meant to be this way? What? .. Shes been a fool .. followed her heart ..

ÔÇ£Oh my god.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Helm! Reverse course, maximum thrust! Comms! Pull Miller back. Abort, abort!ÔÇØ

Not all of it made sense to Savage at that time. In fact, it would be days later before everything made sense to him. But by that time, events would have transpired that threatened to plunge Humanity into an even bigger conflict than the one currently being waged on them by the Gammulans. It seemed that arrogance and oppurtunism were not exclusively used by the Gammulans, or the Insurgents.

However, this day was not over yet. Not by a long shot. And one big surprise was still waiting to rear it ugly, oppurtunist head.

ÔÇ£Signal the Tenchi. Get Kirin down to MinakoÔÇÖs quarters immediately. Tell him to bring a trauma team with him.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Aye sir, relaying now. Foss is hailing us again.ÔÇØ

No time, no time!

Seconds later, the Tactical officer on the Tsnuami announced, and confirmed, Savages suspiscions. Savage sat back and watched chaos explode before his eyes.

[/RP]

Ron, Im handing off to you now. I think we know where this is going.

Kirin closed his eyes. "I never was a diplomat." he said slowly. "Well you hear the man. Communications signal the insurgents to back off immedietly or Blades will open fire. Everyone else perpare yourselves for impact from friendly fire."

Everyone turned to look at Kirin confused. Kirin just lowered his eyes and sat up straighter. "I think I said the wrong thing." he says simply.

Suddenly one of the communications officers jumps up. "The Tsunami is hailing us sir."

Kirin blinks standing slowly. "Patch us through and on screen." A communications officer appeared.

"Sir, get a trauma team down to Akuma Minako's quarters immedietly. Somthing's wrong."

Kirin blinked, then realized that when she stood down she really ment it! Kirin jumped to his feet pressing a comms button. "I want a trauma and medical team down to Commander Minako's quarters on the double!"

He turns to Avery, another officer with obvious leading skills. "Take over for me here."

Avery nods slowly. "Yes sir."

Running down the hallway thousands of little thoughts ran through Kirin's mind. She's a fool! She can't think that it's that easy to get out can she?! What the hell is her problem! This isn't her fault! She should have stayed at the Orion HQ but it was just a mistake! Now she think's that killing herself is the only way out?! Damned little #$*@!

Kirin almost wrenched the door open. The scene before his eyes was too vivid, to horrific. He covered his mouth in silence and moved into the room.

The bed was pulled apart, bloody and torn to shreds, a picture lay smashed in the corner and the comms unit was completly in ruins. Akuma...

Akuma Minako lay sprawled in the middle of the room blood pooling around her wrists. Kirin rushed to her side and checked for a pulse. It was weak but it was still there.

How had he known? Kirin wondered as he turned Akuma slowly on her back. How did he know she had done this?

The medical and Trauma teams arrived on the scene as he pondered this and quickly took Akuma away.

"It's a shame to see a commander lose it like that." One of the Psychitrasts said softly, as she placed a hand on Kirin's shoulder. "She'll be okay physically, as for mentally? I have no idea." With those words she withdrew leaving Kirin kneeling before a pool of blood.

This is insane. Kirin closed his eyes clenching his fist in anger. This is insane!!! All she wants is a damned family! Can't she even have that without bloodshed!

Kirin rose to his feet and walked stiffly towards the Bridge. Once on bridge he relieved Avery and opened all channels directed at Insurgents, Galcom and even Grammulians if they had been around.

"This is Kirin Lacombe of the GCV Tenchi. I am sick of these battles, this bloodshed. I don't care if you are bloodthirsty, if you like the taste of war. Today isn't a good day to die!

I suggest you all go home, go home and have a drink, go to sleep and forget this. I'm tired of these charrades and I don't want anymore of it. If any of you fire after this transmission is over or otherwise I will have your commanders punish you accordingly."

Kirin glared at the starry space before him littered with debris and with Ships of both sides.

"I've had enough. This isn't the time or the place for battles. If you want a fight, find it elsewhere. We're going home."

Kirin looked to his communications officers who cut the signal at his glance.

Now we sit back and wait...

ooc: sorry about the gore! I'm kinda a freak when it comes to stuff like that... biggrin.gif

As some of you may know, I'm a writer and I just had to get into the action here. Unfortunately I couldn't wait to read it all before posting this. I'm slow reader and very impatient, wink.gif

This is my first time RPing here, so enjoy

[RP]

He never did like taking orders from people, infact that was the reason he left Galcom. He was still considered a green Commander when he left and wasn't missed. What they didn't know was how experienced he actually was, being a former Mercenary can give you experience. Even though he had paved over his backround before joining Galcom some people could tell that he didn't really used to be a Trader just by the way he worked his ship.

Now here he was, in charge of a Galcom Battlecruiser, yet, not a part of the whole charade. Galcom HQ probably wanted their ship back, but he wasn't about to give up the UCV Guardian without a fight.

"Navigation, where are we!?" Commander Zeke Stone yelled at his Nav officer, Kochnev. He never did trust Kochnev, she seemed to be hiding something. He never did trust Russians.

"Uh...uh..." Kochnev stuttered before being interrupted by Cmdr. Stone

"We're not in Pluto like I asked, are we?!"

"No, Sir" Kochnev replied nervously.

Zeke Sighed, "We need to get to Pluto before we run out of Radine. Besides, there's a job there for us."

"Aye, Sir. Sorry, Sir."

"Zeke, I'm getting some strange readings here," Zeke's XO and best friend, Jake Burke, replied looking at the Tacops. Jake and Zeke had been Mercenaries together, always watching each others back. Jake was an incredibly good sniper, this had saved Zeke on many occassions.

"What is it?"

"There are a strange amount of ships in this area, some of them even have friendlies targeted." Jake informed him.

"I don't like the sound of that. Make sure they don't see or hear a peep from us, I don't want to get in the middle of this."

The UCV-Susceptor dissapeared and continued toward Pluto. Unfortunately, they didn't have the Radine to hyperjump to the jump point.

"If the reactor shuts down before we reach Pluto, I'll have your head," Zeke informed Kochnev with an evil grin.

"Sir, we're getting an encoded message from an unknown source," the Comms spoke up. His words were a bit slurred and Zeke wondered if what he was saying was really happening.

Nevertheless he told him to direct the message to his quarters. He headed for his quarters, if there was no message at least he could have a drink too. Cmdr. Stone didn't like to be the only one not drinking.

Once in his quarters he checked his personal viewer for the message and was surprised to discover, Paul Trevise, head of a small but growing Mercenaries Guild, on his screen.

"Cmdr. Stone, I have an important job and I heard you were back. The job may be difficult but there is 20 million in it for you. It seems there is a Marine on board the GCV Tsunami that owes someone a lot of money, I do mean a lot. He thought he could escape by becoming a Marine on a Fleet Commanders ship, well I want you to prove him wrong. This guy wants him alive, he didn't tell me what he's going to do with the guy, but I doubt it's good. Please send me your response to this job ASAP" the screen blinked off.

Zeke poured himself something to drink and began to think over this job. After about fifteen minutes of drinking he sent a positive responce. Later he wondered if he did this for the money or because he was drunk.

[/RP]

I hope this doesn't mess anything up, I didn't want to interfere too much. I could always change it, smile.gif

Darkhorizon, there was a very good reason why your post was removed. It wasnÔÇÖt that we didnÔÇÖt like what you did, it was that a very important plot device that needed to be left alone by all concerned until the right time. Although this RP is freeform, certain events needed to be kept under control, and the inclusion of the four cloaked vessels were vital to the integrity of the story and are the spawning point for another epic adventure, in the same vein as last years Pre-emptive Strike. DonÔÇÖt be disheartened, and please donÔÇÖt say you wont involve yourself in RP any more. We need all the good Rpers we can get our hands on to tell our stories, and it would be a sad loss to the community if you didnÔÇÖt participate. IÔÇÖm sorry if what happened seemed harsh, but itÔÇÖs happened to us all in the past. Hope to see you back here shortly.

Anyway  all is about to become apparent. Hold onto your hats folks!

[RP]

Sluggishly, the GCV-Sark began to withdraw from itÔÇÖs assault on the ICV-Nevermore. Afterburners at maximum, and all available reserve power shunted into the fore shield grid, she turned her nose away from AkiraÔÇÖs ship as a volley of missiles dumbfired towards her hull. PTA fire caught the Sark on the broadside, further weakening the already drained shields and puncturing through in several places, exposing the beaten ships hull to vacume. Internal blast doors sealed instantly, preventing further explosive decompression as the first of the dumbfires detonated to the Sarks aft, sending shards of debris scattering into the ship and out into open space.

The Sark herself was retaliating with PTA fire, targeting the incoming dumbfires and lancing at the aggressors vessel. Despite the emergency recall order, Miller would be damned if he was going to let his ship be pecked to death without reminding the Insurgent Fleet commander that sharks have teeth.

The fire from the Sark further battered the Nevermore. Already damaged, with shields drained from Millers missile onslaught, the added PTA fire began to trouble the insurgent commander. However, it was just minor trouble. The Sark wouldnÔÇÖt be able to maintain the stream of fire for more than another moment, and once out of weapons range, itÔÇÖs aft section exposed to the Nevermore, Akira intended to give chase and finish commander Greg Miller, once and for all.

Invisible to all, the hidden wing of Warmongers decloaked below the ICV Nevermore and initiated transporters. At the same time as the first of the heavily armed boarding parties from these ships materialized on the Insurgent vessel, four tractor beams reached out and held the Nevermore tightly.

The unexpected development took all the combating commanders by surprise, save one. Most were momentarily surprised by what they saw, by what their sensors told them. Rattler himself, manoeuvring out of the engagement area looked on in horror as his worst fears came to pass. Barking orders till his throat was sore, he amassed the Insurgents on station and ordered them to intercept the new arrivals. Deep down, despite what he did, he knew he would be too late.

By contrast, Fleet Commander Savage ordered the GalCom ships in the region to peel away from the Insurgent vessels and regroup around the hulk of the Galatea. As they did so, rescue shuttles from the Insurgent vessels withdrew from HamlinÔÇÖs ship, returning at maximum thrust towards the Insurgent rally point. Savage ordered all friendly ships to hold their fire, allowing the rescue/capture operation of the Insurgents to pass by unmolested.

Akira barked orders to his bridge crew as the first reports of intruders came through to the bridge. All decks had been compromised, and the mass of troops were systematically exterminating any and all they came across. The Nevermores defenders, elite by anyoneÔÇÖs standards put up a spirited resistance. They held the advance of the invaders despite being outnumbered 4 to one. As more and more of the warmongers troop compliment entered the crowded ship, the tide of battle turned from bad to worse.

Unexpectedly, a squad of eight of the invaders marines materialised on the bridge of the Nevermore. The moment they rematerialised, Akira and his combat officer began firing at them with their issue wrist lasers. The heavily armoured invaders bore the brunt of the assault, and laid down a barrage of automatic weapons fire across the bridge, cutting down several crewmembers and sending Akira diving for cover.

Those that were not brought down by the invaders weapons launched themselves at their attackers, engaging them with fists, feet and anything they could securely swing or stab at them. Coordinated fire from Akira and the combat officer brought down two of the invaders, accurate laser fire penetrating the weak points in their combat armour and sending them reeling. However, despite a spirited fight, the battle for the bridge of the Nevermore was already lost. Concussion grenades exploded to Akiras right side, sending him reeling to the floor, consciousness desperately retreating from him as he scrambled to activate the ships autodestruct.

Amidst the destruction on the bridge, bodies everywhere, smoke choking him, Akira somehow reached the autodestruct console and began initiating a countdown over ride. Blood pouring down into his eyes, he blinked away the urge to allow darkness to embrace him, and overid the autodestruct timer and initiated a ten second delay. Today, he would die, but his secrets would be his, forever.

The console in front of him exploded a fraction of a second before he was able to mash his palm on the execute button. Blown back by the concussion, in the seconds before he gave up his battle to remain conscious, a lone marine stepped up to him, pulled the helmet from his head and grinned down at the beaten Insurgent.

Akira tried to make sense of what he saw, tried to rationalise the expression on his face. It wasnÔÇÖt until the marine dropped a single crafted piece of metal onto Akiras chest, laughing as he did so that everything was understood.

The Tenchi .. Akuma . defection .. a ruse .. a trap. How could I have been so stupid?

Akira took these troubled thoughts with him into unconsciousness. In the days to come, they would be his only companion.

The entire operation to capture Fleet Commander Akira of the Insurgency had taken months to plan and coordinate. The execution of this operation had taken but three minutes. As the last of the boarding parties withdrew back to their parent vessels, the Nevermore was released to drift. The Warmongers, unidentifiable without relevant markings and masked transponders burned away from the area, passing between where the Galcom and Insurgents fleets were grouping together in a stand off and cloaked.

ÔÇ£Who?ÔÇØ was the only question uttered on the bridges of all the assembled vessels, Galcom and Insurgent alike. Eventually, everyone would have an answer, although at this time only Fleet Commander Savage knew for sure.

He answered his bridgecrew with a single word, and finally, the insanity made sense.

ÔÇ£Earthcom.ÔÇØ

[/RP]

What happens now IÔÇÖm going to leave for the Insurgents. Rattler, you make the call.

Everyone at war with the Gams. Thats why there is so little in the way of support for the good guys atm. The follow up to this is gonna be epic, even by our usual standards. I will post details (Much like I did with Preemptive Strike a year ago) as soon as we got this little affair sorted out. And yes, it's gonna be in a similar vein as PS, although much more sinister.

The onslaught to the Nevermore was more than unexpected. Rattler stood on the bridge, cursing at having been such a fool!

"Shadows, Attack those Warmongers!" "Stay with them for as long as you can."

"Attention all Insurgent Rescue Shuttles, Drop your survivors with the nearest Galcom Ships in the immediate vicinity! Priority One! Upon completion, dock with your assigned ships. Necromancer Shuttle 2, Take Nevermore under tow and proceed to Sygan!"

"Insurgent Vessels of War, Form up at Anchorage Theta, these Thieves must not escape. We've been fighting the wrong enemy for far too long!"

"Coms, Get a message out to the Tenchi. Send it in the clear so that everyone can clearly hear and understand what is being transmitted."

"To the REAL Commander of the Tenchi, I did not rescue you those so many years ago to see you fail. I have and shall always watch over you. Whether you remain Galcom, or chose another path is the choice that only you can make. We of the Insurgency hold no ill will towards yourself or any on this field of honor this date. I know that circumstances well beyound your control and grasp have come into play this date and I shall hold those guilty of infringing upon the sanctity of our private relationship accountable. Now it's time for you to stand up and BE what I have envisioned as your Destiny. BE A STARSHIP COMMANDER! It's now time for you to STAND AND BE COUNTED! Do not take this meeting as chance or circumstance. Take it as a friendly visit from one who cares!.......Rattler.....Out!"

"Aboard the Necromancer, make all preparations for immediate departure. Spectre Fleet, Cloak and get underway to Theta! Helm, Take us to Theta!

"Coms, open a hailing channel to Savage! Send him my compliments on his ability to control his Fleet. Also send him my regards, One Leader to Another. Invite him, And His XO to Spectre for a "One Time Guaranteed Safety" Visit. We have much to discuss after this meeting. Tell him that the offer will be on the table for as long as he wants it. Now send it Coms!"

With that, Spectre faded into the twinkling stars and Nebulae. Once again becoming what the namesake portrays. Spectre became the shadows of dreams, Nightmares if you will, that scare most humans when encountered. On a closed channel, Rattler sent word out to every Starstation and Starbase in the galaxy. He sent a message of recall. With that message, every Insurgent became active. This day would not go unavenged. This day was the first day of the search for Akira. Those responsible were immediatley marked for termination with extreme prejudice. On a second message, aimed specifically at one receiver, was sent. It simply said...."Jester, Time to go to Work!"

Damn, I missed the fun smile.gif Thanks, Blades, for painting such a nice picture for me smile.gif

Seing that EarthCOM is now in this, I'm formally inviting McQueen and Wolfe and any other EarthCOM type to join the fray. Otherwise, gentlemen, we, the players, will rp as a faction of EarthCOM and will not drag in the names of player members of EarthCOM.

Well, fellas, looks like I'm in it again. I feel sorry for most of ya. If you thought Akira was at the least a worthy opponent, Jester is the wildcard that Akira aspires to become.

Good work so far guys. This has a great chance to become another great epic battle both of flesh and spirit!

P.S.

I'll be posting as Akira on Thursday or Friday eve. If anyone needs/wants to discuss ideas or directions feel free to email me. I don't have any answers yet, but I'm always open to good ideas.
