Prologue

Somewhere in an insignificant part of the universe, a war raged between two opposing races. One hungered for conquest and dominance, and pressed ruthlessly into the defenders home territories on a mission of genocide while the other fought valiantly to stave off extermination. The first few weeks of the war saw terrible losses on both sides, with the furthest outposts of humanity decimated by the Gammulan incursion and entire fleets of starships left burning, dead in space. The Gammulans, united in their efforts to wipe every trace of humanity from the unnervingly impartial face of the galaxy, had stalled in their momentum, staved of supplies from their distant colonies. Humanity, however, was divided, fragmented. Two factions within fought in an undeclared civil war, weakening the whole and failing to fully repel their would-be conquerors. In times long past, the two factions had united to repel these aggressors, but in the modern galaxy, where the bitterness and arrogance of those that made policy couldnÔÇÖt be put aside to fight a common foe, it seemed unlikely that one faction by itself could deter the invaders. As it stood, both the invaders and the defenders were at an impossible in-pass, unable to press further into each otherÔÇÖs territories and unable to withdraw. In essence, a stalemate.

However, within one of these battling forces, a cancer grew. A cancer so malign, so utterly misguided and bitter, should itÔÇÖs plans come to fruition, it had the potential to turn the terran home systems into a vast graveyard, and consign human existence to the history books, a side note in the Gammulan book of conquests, a race defeated and exterminated.

The taking of Akira, Vice Admiral of the Insurgency was the first nail in the coffin of the human race. Before long, another could be driven in, setting into motion events that would tip the balance of power in favour of the Gammulans. If that happened, there would be precious little any man, woman or child of humanity could do to prevent annihilation.

But even in these dire times, there were those that had within them the knowledge, courage and determination to put right the wrong doing that would damn them all. Few knew the truth, even fewer understood what that truth really meant, and of those that banded together to fight for the survival of the human race, nobody could predict if they would prevail, or even return from their desperate mission.

This is their story ..

End Prologue

Into The Fire is a direct follow up to the story, Joy Ride that Akuma Minako started some time ago and told the tale of a GalCom commanders struggle with family loyalty (Of sorts) and duty.

Those of you wishing to participate in this scenario should familiarise yourselves with that RP thread to better understand the relationship between the principle characters and the events that will unfold here. You may also wish to have a look at Preemptive Strike to see roughly how this scenario will be run.

Unlike PS, this scenario is more freeform, which means that characters have a wider scope to participate in, although there are going to be restrictions in place to keep the main plot intact and free from too many random elements. Although there is a set story in place (Most of which will be outlined in the first few posts) there is room for many, many subplots to develop as time goes by. All of these are welcome and should be explored so long as they donÔÇÖt become the main focus of the scenario.

Now, the way this scenario is set out will pretty much be detailed in the first opening posts in this scenario. However, for those of you than want to know now, here are a few facts :

Like all classic Good vs. Evil stories, the bad guys always have the upper hand. This will be no different. The good guys (Those being the participants, be they GalCom, Insurgent or miscellaneous) will always have the odds stacked against them. Clever use of Rping should be used to prevent untimely death, destruction and general arse upped ness. However, from time to time, bad things will happen to good guys. Roll with it. WeÔÇÖre not in the business of creating no win scenarios, so creatively writing yourself out of a potentially fatal situation (Providing itÔÇÖs done well, and not just done) should be the order of the day.

Under no circumstances are players to kill off fellow players (NPCÔÇÖs are fodder, unless they are IMPORTANT NPCÔÇÖs ÔÇô There will be a list of these provided) nor is it generally a good idea to speak too much for fellow players. ItÔÇÖs ok to write in character for another player, to a point, but it is best to limit it a fair bit unless you have previously been in discussion with the player regarding that dialogue. Only when the story is being written in a narrative (By myself) will characters interact with each other. Make sense?

Most of the action will take part on board a single ship. This way, everyone is pretty much kept in close quarters, so when a plot element occurs, it pretty much occurs to everyone participating.

During some ACTS in this scenario, only key players will be able to participate for logical reasons. Although this will happen quite frequently, each instance will be fairly brief so those not currently participating will get left behind. The reasons for this will become evident as time goes on, and if it goes the way IÔÇÖm thinking is likely, it will work very, very well.

Anyway, thatÔÇÖs pretty much it at this stage. If you have any comments or suggestions, post them here quickly. The scenario will officially start with my opening post in about 24 hours from now. Before then, I shall be releasing a list of immediately notable characters and will expand upon it as the scenario moves along.

Almost there gang. Heres to another classic.

Well James, your ship was destroyed, my ship was moderately damaged, The Tsunami was already damaged goods when she left spacedock, The Tenchi was damaged; how many more ships do we have left?

Besides, it will do us some good to get out a little.

Non Play Characters

The following is a list of in game non player characters. Those designated with an asterix are central to the plot and are not to be interfered with (As in randomly slaughtered) by anyone.

*Commander Neena Polovoski : Commanding Officer of the GCV-McKendrick and personal friend of Fleet Commander Savage. Decorated for her outstanding performance during the infamous Chikuma Incident of 3004. Currently serving with the Orion Fleet out of the Legacy Starbase on Earth, flying the PR flag and generally keeping out of the way of the Gammulan war. 100% unimpressed with that descision, made by GalCom higher ups and enforced by Savage.

Lt.Commander Tamara Jensen : Executive Officer of the GCV-McKendrick. Remained with Commander Polovoski following her promotion. Occupies the helm.

*Leutenant Peter Reynolds : Chief Of Station Communications, Orion Starstation. Transferred to Orion HQ after the Chikuma Incident, his severe injuries during that episode prevented him from resuming his career in space. Despite his injuries, he has become one of the finest comms officers in the Fleet.

Martin Summers : Civilian Doctor of Medicine. Once served on the GCV-Chikuma, during that infamous incident. Retired shortly after and resumed his private practice back on earth.

These characters are important to the opening part of the scenario and may or may not be included in the following parts. At each major juncture, a new list of important NPCÔÇÖs will be posted, just so everyone knows whoÔÇÖs who and whats what.

Opening narrative is still on schedule and will be posted on the morrow. From that point, everyone involved will know how to get involved.

All on one ship? You sure about that Blades? I'd hate to see Ole Rattler having to defend himself inside a Galcommie Ship! wink.gif

What about Rod? hehe smile.gif. Sorry, couldn't resist. Another ploy that I can't use since that was McKendrick's. Neena is free to use him if he is available; or remember McKendrick's "expertise" with the little bots. Don't get me wrong. I don't want a battalion of sentient bots running around but I never considered "Rod" sentient; I just considered him highly tweaked but still very much a robot/droid. No Johnny 5's in this universe.

Don't know where Chavik was during Joy ride but the Phoenix is ready anytime as well and also unscathed; and the Necromancer I believe; plus the other unidentified cloaked ships acting as escort. But the only thing unharmed ships can do is force another stand off. Don't think I'm getting my hackles up. I'm not. But I'm thinking that think before you post should be followed fairly closely. smile.gif

Is this going to be the comments thread Blades? It's about turned into it already. wink.gif

One more thing. I think you should remind everyone where everything is in this time frame. Orion is still at Jupiter correct? Rattler's Den (Spectre) is in Antis and Earthcom is in Alpha Centauri (forget which system.) Have I got that right? Would hate to post something while thinking of the wrong location.

Right, heres a couple of additional details regarding Chaviks post.

Current start date for Into The Fire is May 15th, 3008, approx two months after the second Gam war broke out with the Wraith Masacre. Joy Ride took part to the back drop of this conflict, and ended with Akira's capture May 12th, 3008.

Just prior to the war breaking out, the new Orion Station was completed in Centris and the old station in Jupitor was handed over to Earthcom. Orion has now occupied Centris. One of the reasons why it took so long for the Orion Fleet to muster and come to Wraiths aid in Gallions thread was because of the logistical problems of recalling all active BC's to the mustering point in Centris.

Anyway, thats my angle. smile.gif

Chavik, you'll probably find Rod still milling about on the McKendrick. God I love reunions. wink.gif

Everyone has to receive that huh? So would I have to intercept the transmission, or something like that, in order to participate?

Since I haven't been RPing very long I will try not to interfere too much. wink.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

Per Chavik's polite request (and the gaping wide opening he provided in one of his latest posts), I'm going to make yet another attempt at joining in on an RPG thread. If that's cool with you guys anyways.

I've already got an opening post written up. Ran it past Chavik and he thinks it's good, I'm just being sure I have everyone else's consent before I ended up being strapped to a R.A.N.D.O.M or something smile.gif And no, there won't be any more artifacts from my red-shirt days, such as super-duper-Vorlon-esque-battlecruisers-of-certain-death-and-misery or anything like that. I'm sticking to the confines of the BC3k universe this time smile.gif

Before I posted though, I'd just like to get the consent of the higher-ups. So, Rattler, Blades, etc, you guys cool with this? If you want to review my first post before I hurl it off, give me a yell on ICQ (1293359) and I'll send it along.

Couple of questions for myself now. Just how resourceful are we allowed to be Blades? cwm6.gif To paraphrase you aren't going to allow and weapons or comms. Well Savage will try not to. If I remember correctly transports actually have a very small crew. What kind of ship is the SS Vulture? A transport? or a secret? Is it still if we write it well we can get away with it?

Seeing as how my last few attempts have ended in what could be lightly referred to as a "complete mess", I wanted to be sure I was on both feet before I posted. But you've got a point, I'll just throw the damn thing up and see what everyone's reaction is smile.gif
