Command Deck Briefing Room

Upon escorted entry to the briefing room, nearly all of the new arrivals found themselves staring into the disbelieving faces of an enemy. Most masked their surprise (Perhaps even horror) at being confronted with those they had sworn to kill, and several had to restrain themselves from acting on instinct and drawing confiscated weapons from empty holsters. One amongst the many went so far as to forget himself completely, and launched at the throat of a man not three feet from where he entered. Better restrained comrades intervened quickly, and attempted to separate the brawling and cussing pair before it escalated into free for all melee. Had it not been for the timely (And unexpected) enterence of both the commander of the Orion Fleet and the CIC of the Insurgency upon the shrouded, raised platform, it would have descended wanton violence instead of the stunned silence they now enjoyed.

ÔÇÿYou know,ÔÇÖ said Savage to his Insurgent counterpart some time later, ÔÇÿin a devient, power monger kinda way, I really enjoyed that.ÔÇÖ

It took a few more moments of calming down before everyone assembled began to fully take in what they saw. In the few minutes that followed while the stragglers made their way into the briefing room, both Savage and Rattler remained silent and looked out at their assembled troops. Remarkably, both groups seemed to be fairly evenly dispersed amongst eachother. One would think that a natural response to being confronted with both friends and foes would be to group together. After all, there is safety in numbers and unity. Perhaps it was the unique circumstances they found themselves in that rooted them to the spot. Perhaps they were just too dumbfounded to move themselves to friendlier territory.

Finally, as the last arrival made his way into the briefing room, did a quick double take at the platform and then root himself on the spot, the two men illuminated the platform where they stood and took a united step forwards to face their officers.

ÔÇÿGentlemen,ÔÇÖ started Savage, looking to both the faces he recognised and those that he didnÔÇÖt. ÔÇÿwelcome aboard the S.S Vulture.ÔÇÖ

He paused there, quickly trying to gauge the expressions on each of their faces. Seeing a mixture of bewilderment, anxiety and intense curiosity, he took a moment to gather his thoughts before continuing.

ÔÇÿOn behalf of myself and Rattler, thank you for attending this little gathering.ÔÇÖ

Almost immediately, Rattler continued. ÔÇÿNow, I know what you are all thinking. Why is the leader of the Insurgency and that of the Orion fleet together recruiting commanders from each of our respective organisations and having them meet in the hind quarter of the galaxy in secrecy? Well, thatÔÇÖs not the easiest thing to explain, and some, if not all of you here must be fighting hard to keep yourselves from running to the nearest working comms system and reporting our seemingly treacherous actions.ÔÇÖ

From somewhere near the back of the briefing room, a hidden voice uttered a brief reply. ÔÇÿThe thought had crossed our minds.ÔÇÖ

Instantly, Savage strepped forward and spoke loudly into the mic. ÔÇÿI wouldnÔÇÖt recommend anyone does that. For one, we wouldnÔÇÖt be doing this without a very good reason. For another, remember those mercs you saw on your way into the ship? Well, they have explicit orders to shoot anybody, Galcom or Insurgent attempting to leave the ship.ÔÇÖ

That produced a series of murmers from the assembled officers, and Savage knew instantly that it wasnÔÇÖt well received.

Then again, it wasnÔÇÖt likely to, was it? thought the Fleet Commander.

ÔÇÿThe order was jointly given.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler, coming to Savages aid. ÔÇÿAnd one that I whole heartedly endorse.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿThe reasons for which,ÔÇÖ continued Savage, picking up from where Rattler left off. ÔÇÿwill become apparent shortly. In the mean time, please take your seats.ÔÇÖ

It took a few moments after he made the offer before everyone began to take heed of his words and begin moving towards the large, oblong table and pull up a chair. As they did so, there was brief conversation between those close together, each asking questions the other had no answers too. At least, for the moment.

Once they were seated, Savage continued. ÔÇÿNow that you are more comfortable, a few ground rules. First, while you are on board this ship, you are civilians and will be treated as such. That means restrictions on your movements and to information. You have no rank, no special privileges and no access to weapons or communications of any kind. Both Galcom and Insurgent personnel will be expected to keep your personal feelings towards eachother and to us burried. If I find anyone starting a fight or causing any kind of problem that jepordises us or the mission, I will have you put down. Is that understood?ÔÇÖ

A few of the Galcom commanders returned with a sudden, if less than enthusiastic ÔÇÿYes sir.ÔÇÖ While the rest remained awkwardly silent.

Rattler took another step forward, and spoke abruptly. ÔÇÿI donÔÇÖt think the Fleet Commander heard you people. He said IS THAT UNDERSTOOD!?!.

That, at least, seemed to get their attention. Both Galcom and Insurgent personnel replied with a more enthusiastic response.

ÔÇÿAhem, good. Rattler?ÔÇÖ

Rattler took a moment to view his people before continuing with the brief. ÔÇÿAre there any questions at this point?ÔÇÖ

Everyone there had questions, but few had any they actually wanted to ask. One Insurgent, however, decided to voice his ÔÇÿconcernsÔÇÖ. ÔÇÿSir, just what the hell is going on here? Why are you .. you ..ÔÇÖ he struggled to find the words ..ÔÇÖcollaborating with the enemy?ÔÇÖ

The questions was less that diplomatic, but it was one everyone assembled from both camps wanted an answer to.

In response, Rattler glared at his subordinate. ÔÇÿWe are not collaborating, as you put it commander. We have forged an alliance for the duration of this mission.ÔÇÖ

From the opposite side of the table, a Galcom commander spoke up. ÔÇÿWhat mission?ÔÇÖ he said. ÔÇÿI mean, what is this all about? Why have you brought us here?ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿYou werenÔÇÖt brought here,ÔÇÖ started another Insurgent commander. ÔÇÿLike the rest of us, you weÔÇÖre ÔÇÿinvitedÔÇÖ to attend. Probably by that fleet commander of yours.ÔÇÖ

The Galcom commander glared at his Insurgent counterpart. ÔÇÿIf your Intel was up to scratch, youÔÇÖd know that he isnÔÇÖt my fleet commander. Before today IÔÇÖd never even laid eyes on him.ÔÇÖ

The Insurgent scoffed. ÔÇÿBut you went along all the same, didnÔÇÖt you? Blindly obeyed an order. Typical Lemming.ÔÇÖ

The Galcom Commander, Savage couldnÔÇÖt recall his name at this time, pushed himself up from his chair and leaned over the table towards his antagonist. ÔÇÿLemming ?!? Why you miserable son of a bi-ÔÇÿ

ÔÇÿEnough!ÔÇÖ bellowed Rattler once again. ÔÇÿDidnÔÇÖt you listen to a word we just said? Consider this an order, Insurgents, there is a ceasefire in progress. Which means no berating, no trouble. The next one of you .. the next one of any of you that speaks out against another, I will personally break in half.ÔÇÖ

Savage gazed down at the Galcom officer who was involved. ÔÇÿThat goes for you, and any of the rest of you too. Take notice.ÔÇÖ

The room began to settle again then. Uncertain glances were exchanged from friends and foes alike, neither certain with what they were being told, nor happy with it. As far as they were concerned, either their superiors had gone completely crazy, or something so serious, so bizarre was up that it had frightened the pair into working together. Whatever the case, they needed explanations, and they needed them now.

As if on cue, Akuma Minako appeared from nowhere behind the podium, carrying an armful of datapads and began dispersing them one at a time to the commanders around the table. As the last was handed out, she stepped back from the table and faced her commander.

ÔÇÿPermission to begin pre-flight countdown?ÔÇÖ she asked.

Savage nodded to her and flashed her a slight smile. ÔÇÿPermission granted. IÔÇÖll see you on the bridge in thirty minutes.ÔÇÖ

The moment Akuma turned to leave them, Greg Miller, the Orion Fleets Executive Officer shot a quizzical glance at his friend. ÔÇÿWe going somewhere sir?ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿWe are.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler, interrupting before Savage had a chance to respond. ÔÇÿAt least, some of us are.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿWhat does that mean?ÔÇÖ asked another Insurgent.

This time it was Savage who interrupted Rattler. ÔÇÿAll in good time.ÔÇÖ He said. ÔÇÿFirst we should probably explain to you gentlemen exactly why we invited you here. Once thatÔÇÖs concluded, each of you has an important choice to make.ÔÇÖ

When he finished, the room remained in silence. It was only after an almost uncomfortable amount of time that Savage continued.

ÔÇÿAlright,ÔÇÖ he said, ÔÇÿlets get started.ÔÇÖ

[/RP]

Ok gang, instead of going through the background all over again, weÔÇÖre gonna skip it and get right to the initial reaction. After the next narrative, there will be some time for characters to ask questions. RP your chatracters initial feelings, but donÔÇÖt descend into a drawn out discussion. Suggest you keep it short and to the point. Both myself and Rattler will answer them one at a time. Floors open gents.

Command Deck Briefing Room

Twenty minutes had passed since Savage and Rattler began explaining. When they had concluded, they allowed everyone a few moments to let it all sink in. Judging by the looks on the faces of those present, there was a mixture of disbelief, horror and anger. ÔÇÿTime is now of the essence gentlemen. If you have any questions, I suggest you ask them now.ÔÇÖ

Savage extended his hand to the Galcom commander that stepped up to him. 'Thank you.' he said as he shook the commanders hand. 'Im greatful for your support, and offer of assistance. Your intel background was one of the reasons why I sent for you in the first place, and as much as we could use the resources at your disposal, Im afraid for security reasons we cant rely on anyone outside of this room. Well, nearly everyone.'

Savage stepped back from the commander, and gestured to the vacant seat which was previously occupied. He looked back out over the gathered officers and caught glance of a man he suspected had a question to ask.

'Your question, commander?'

SS Vulture

Briefing Room

Time Unknown

After hearing what they said, I thought some of us? All in good time? Working with insurgents? This had better be good I had managed to mask my emotions after the inital reaction...and decided attacking was not the best choice...for the moment.

Takeing the data pad, I was glad for all the training I had taken...and the fact I was taught to be open-minded. Looking around at the crowd of faces, one of them stuck out at me Cmdr. Jamont is here!?.

I knew now was the time to not ask questions...let others ask them first. I swore to protect Earth and all Terran quadrant against all enemies, domestic and foreign. So who should I trust? Who can I trust? These thoughts and more whirled around my head as the memories of the raid haunted me. I hope this doesn't get as sc**wed up as that did.....

Liev had three thoughts on his mind. The first one was "Am I in Wraith now?". Savage made no mention of civillians being in the crowd. He might have done that for simplicity, but Liev still intened to ask if he was a Fighter Leader now (or would be after this Vulture incident).

The second was that this class of ship had the ability to carry Type 3 shuttles, the same kind the Bold Voyager was. It seemed to him that he could be quite useful with his customized shuttle available.

Liev went to Savage and addressed him. "Sir," he said in his harsh, quite voice, " first I tellu thatt I will gladtly offtr my services to the misston. Second I wish to know twoq thingcs. Am I Wraith? May I havet my Bold Voyager duringt thisk okteghk..." he stopped and cleared his throat. "...during this operation?"

Savage answered. But suddenly Liev found himself barley listening, overcome with the third thought: Gammulans! His hatred for the species was violent and irrational, most incongruous with the rest of Liev's mind. His only thoughts of his Insurrgent companions was intense gladness that they too were going to aid in the Gammulan eradication.

Savage had stoped talking and was eyeing him carefully. Liev realized he was growling and gritting his teeth. Quickly trying to remember what Savage had said, Liev realized the Fleet Leader took his sudden display of emotion as a response to having to work with Insurgents.

Liev shook his head, "No, no no. Insurgents will be goodk allies. I am gladk." He hoped Savage would believe. Comrades-in-arms made poor enemies.

Thanking him for his time, Liev was about to see about the Voyager when more question happened upon him. "Sir. Why did you ask I for mission?"

[/rp]

To make things absolutley clear, Liev has no problems with the Insurrgency. He rather supports the cause, so he won't cause you fellas no harm. smile.gif

Blades: Having my shuttle around would be nice (no weapons or such inside, don't worry), but a number of systems are all smashed up and need repairs that Liev can't do.

Somerset still sat in disbelief in the chair he sat down in for the beginning of the oddest briefing he had ever had the displeasure of being involved in. He had been one of those whose first thought was to head for a comm terminal to report Savage's blatent treasonous activity. After all, he was part of Fleet Command, and therefore part of the Command structure that tried to throw The Book at him after the Massacre. Two official reprimands later, and now this man wanted him to work with Insurgents?

It was the most preposterous idea he had ever heard in his entire life. His sworn enemy, the leader of them right in his midst, and all he could do was work with them.

Well, orders are orders...and until he faces a court-martial, he still is my legal superior, and his orders are binding, he thought to himself.

He managed to hide all of these thoughts and his hatred for the Insurgents around him gracefully, and walked up to Savage. "Sir, Benjamin Somerset, GCV Swiftsure. I don't believe I've had the pleasure...," he said, extending his hand. "And sir, what exactly do you have in store for an Intel man like me?"

Akuma Minako smiles leans back in a seat on the flight deck. She sighs contented that nothing has happened between the Galcom and Insurgent Gentlemen.

She closes her eyes waiting for Blades to arrive. Apparantly he was intending to speak to her alone and she didn't want to dissipoint him by dissappearing. Twenty minutes have passed since she had gone through the standard pre flight countdown procedures.

Pulling out the insurgent badge she traces the outline and sighs deeply. "It just isn't fair." She whispers.

Kirin with deft eye and wary mouth remains silent through all of the tension. Having delt with Akuma on a regular basis he found himself almost decensitized to the prejidiaces against them.

When a nervous or suspisious eye met his he smiled. When angry words were spoken he remained silent.

Akuma Minako passed by him and he took her hand briefly in his own. She seemed mildly surprised and oddly uncomfortable at that touch.

He stood up and filed back to his assigned temporary quarters to ponder the information he had been given. "This is quite a mission." He murmered as he entered his room and flopped down on his bed.

Kyle Antilles wasn't too supprised at finding a mix of Galcom and Insurgent commanders in the briefing room. The message he had intercepted had been to a Galcom commander from Insurgent One: That was enough of a clue that the Old Corsair might not be the only Galcommie there. Antilles was, however, supprised that Fleet Commander Savage was there. It must have taken some pretty strong persuasion to even get him here.

Commander Antilles looked down at the datapad and reread it for the fourth time. There was nothing to do now but wait, and it didn't really look like it would be a long wait. He smiled, thankful he had left that message to the Eclipse before he boarded the Vulture.

May 18, 3008

11:30

Chavik picked his bag up and began walking against the throng. It was towards the outer edges of the landing field that used craft were for sale. The station could handle only so much traffic so the rest was shunted to the edge of the compound. Chavik wasn't interested in the base salesmen anyway. He needed shuttles and he needed them fast and without question. Without many questions at least. Every vendor wants to protect his interests.

As Chavik walked past the different buildings the crowd began to flow the other way. More and more people were interested in what was offered on the fringe. He stood at a corner trying to decide which way to go when a young Zelon driving a rather beat up skimmer pulled alongside. "Ride sir?" he asked, grinning. Chavik raised his eyebrows and looked at the contraption dubiously. It listed side to side as it idled there obviously due to the storage compartment welded on the back. Chavik shrugged and put his bag in the back. As he climbed aboard the added weight of his bag and person caused the skids to drag the ground until the Zelon upped the throttle. Chavik sat down with an undignified plop as the Zelon pounded the display, turned and asked "Where to?".

"I need a ship," said Chavik. The Zelon nodded and revved the skimmer up. It lifted up above the crowd and headed off.

After a few turns they began skimming straight ahead. After the last power plant the Zelon corrected course once more and appeared to be headed towards some mountains in the distance. They flew past the littered remains of several interceptors, ATV's, skimmers, SAM's, and SAL's. Chavik began wondering where the Zelon was taking him but he saw as they flew over a small rise. It appeared to be another Landing strip but the haphazard layout reminded him more of a junkyard. Several outlying buildings gave evidence that this was a rather busy place. A suburb of the main area they had just left but the conditions of the buildings suggested it was a good bit seedier.

As the skimmer set down Chavik guessed it would have taken the better part of two hours to walk here. Chavik got off, removed his bag, and looked around. The Zelon spoke up. "Thirty galcreds." Chavik patted his pockets and grimaced. Of all the things to have forgotten in his preparations it would be hard cash.

The Zelon noticed this and started to get upset. "C,mon, I'll buy you lunch, I want to ask you a few questions."

"You already owe me thirty galcreds, no lunch is worth that. You're just trying to stiff me. I'm calling security."

"I'll make it worth your while , now come on. Show me a good place to eat."

The Zelon slumped his slight body even further and started walking away. "Not but two, at least Ja'eb has good stew." As they walked towards Ja'ebs the skimmer revved up and began to follow.

Chavik turned around and stared. "How did you do that?" he asked.

The Zelon grinned as he said, "Simple, just target yourself. Saved my rear a few times."

12:45

They sat in Ja'eb's and finished the last of the stew. Despite the look of the place it was very good. Either that or he'd had to many nutripaks lately. "So who is the best person to buy from?" asked Chavik.

"Gorbush, this whole place is his. Well, except for the outlying stores. That's why I brought you here. He has the biggest selection of anyone. There is a raider base a few zones over and every so often they get cocky and try to take over. That was the debris we passed. It's the best parts store around and it's all free. Just Ja'eb gets to it first 'cause he is so close. But that's where I found my skimmer. A SAL had gotten the driver and left it largely intact. Scouting around the field gave me enough parts to fix her up. Gorbush wasn't to happy when he found me but I promised to work for him and steer business his way. But he's still one of the best." the Zelon added quickly.

Chavik laughed, "I hope so but no matter. I need what I need and I will get it. And repay you in the process. I noticed that skimmer of your's didn't do too well when I got on."

The Zelon's eyes dimmed and he blushed. "Yeah, it needs a logic controller and a surge controller. Plus some systems repair kits and tools. You just don't find those out there very often. Never tools. So I'm stuck going to Gorbush for repairs. "

"I think it's about time you took me to see this Gorbush. "

13:20

At the Zelons insistence Chavik replaced his bag in the skimmer's trunk and they rode to see Gorbush. He had his office in a converted cargo bay in a useless looking Sentry. Chavik noted the turrets were clean as were the engines. Gorbush had gone to great trouble disguising his ship but Chavik had no doubt it could lift off on a moment's notice. As they entered the dim interior a rather large Kandorian with one "ear" missing looked up and said "Well, hello Z'ed. I've been wondering where you had gotten off to . It's been quite a while. "

"Yes sir," replied Z'ed, "but I have a good customer today. " He glanced at Chavik and said,"Maybe my commision will be enough to pay off my skimmer."

"I doubt it. Times are getting tough with the raiders and all. It's hard to find a good skimmer nowadays. The market has gone up." Z'ed's eyes dimmed almost completely for a moment then flared as he took a deep breath. Gorbush interrupted, "Now run along and find me some relay chips. We're running a bit low. " Z'ed mumbled something that sounded like yes sir and walked out with his head held low. Chavik watched him walk across the lot and round a pile of junk with his skimmer following as if it were his only friend. A surge from the reactor brought the skimmer even with Z'ed. He took it by the handle and led it around the corner.

"A bit hard on him weren't you?" said Chavik as he turned to face the Kandorian.

"What business is it of yours human?" Gorbush asked while swelling to his full height. "He was trying to steal from me. He is lucky I let him live then and still. He is a good scavenger though and useful to me. Now what is it you want? I don't have times for games."

"No games Gorbush. I need three shuttles. Spaceworthy as well." Gorbush's ear twitched in excitement.

"Well certainly sir, if you'll just come with me. I have several models at the edge of the yard." Gorbush came from behind the counter and strode out into the daylight. Chavik followed as they walked around the same pile of debris Z'ed had. At the edge of the yard towards the mountains there were ships of all sorts. Some loked as if they had seen the better side of the last century. One Sentry sat just at the edge of the yard with laser burns all over the hull and several large holes in the side. "Here is a nice ship," said Gorbush, pointing to a Solnar.

"I said shuttles, I need the cargo space," said Chavik.

"And what would you be needing to haul with three of them? I have some contacts who could get you an LRT-10 or a Canlon even. Plus my commission of course," said Gorbush, his ears twitching again at the thought of large sums of money.

"No, the shuttles will accomplish what I need done. Take me to the shuttles. "

"Very well, as you wish. This way if you please." Gorbush turned and starting walking to another area of the field. Past another junk pile there were five shuttles. Two T-1's, two T-2's, and a T-3. They entered the first T-2 to find Z'ed up under the dash. "What are you doing?" bellowed Gorbush.

Z'ed flinched and they heard a loud thunk. He crawled out from under the dash rubbing his head. "Getting relay chips like you said. "

"Out of this fine piece of machinery when we have a buyer?"

"This tub wouldn't lift off if you set off explosives underneath it," Z'ed mumbled.

"Boy," said Gorbush as he moved towards Z'ed.

"Enough," said Chavik. "Z'ed, which of the others are in working condition?"

"The T-1's are in good shape sir, and the other T-2 only needs a tacscan unit. This one is shot though or I would have swapped them out before now. "

"Fine, the T-1's and get the tacscan unit out of the T-3 and install it here. Do we have a deal Gorbush?"

"Yes sir, now if we can discuss the particulars," said Gorbush. As they turned to leave Gorbush gave Z'ed a look that promised retribution at a later date. They left Z'ed to replace the tacscan while they went back to the Sentry to discuss a price.

16:35

After settling on a price Chavik flew each of the shuttles to the Starstation and loaded them with supplies. He enlisted Z'eds help one more time and had him target himself so the shuttles would follow regardless of the ship he was on. Chavik had one more thought. He walked back into Gorbush;s office and said," I think I may need a skimmer as well. One for each shuttle. Do you have enough?"

Gorbush answered "Yes, I will see to it." As Chavik left Gorbush smiled at the thought of revenge on Z'eds impertinence.

"Z'ed," Gorbush called, "Our customer has decided on skimmers as well. Load them up."

"But we only have the three and one of them is mine."

"Not anymore it's not," Gorbush said with a sneer of contempt. "You'll just have to work harder from now on and purchase one the right way instead of trying to steal from me. Now load them up and get back to finding relay chips."

18:00

Chavik had walked around the compound testing the shuttles' targeting capacity. It seemed to be working well so he went to find Z'ed. He invited him to another meal at Ja'ebs. While at the Starstation he had gotten some cash out as well. He handed Z'ed a credit chit and told him, "There is your thirty galcreds and enough extra to pay off that skimmer."

Z'ed's eyes glowed at the amount of money offered then dimmed and he said,"It will be a while. Gorbush sold my skimmer out from under me. It's loaded in the T-2."

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize. Find another dealer. You don't need to stay around Gorbush any longer. But I will bring it back if I can. I have a feeling I'll be needing it. "

"Yes sir," said Z'ed disappointedly and left.

22:00

Chavik prepared to leave. He got into the T-2 and unpacked his bag. He initiated launch procedures and taxied a bit checking the other two shuttle's targeting. All appeared to be working well so he burned towards orbit with the T-1's following.

22:15

Chavik arrived at Pixan Starstation and began looking for the S.S. Vulture. Launch control informed him of it's location and he was disappointed to discover it was an LRT-10 with no shuttle docking capability. Chavik targeted the Vulture as a precaution and set the T-2 down on a launch pad. The T-1's hovered nearby as he entered the station.

22:55

He made his way around to the Vulture. As he passed the launch control android he looked out into the bay and noticed the shuttles were still oriented on him. Ariving at the Vulture he encountered mercenaries when he tried to enter. They confiscated his sidearm and wristlaser and laughed at his light pen when one of the mercs mentioned his granddad used one to torture the cat by running the light around the floor while the cat chased it. They searched his bag and confiscated his knives as well as the power pack for the gun hidden in his shoe. Not having a power supply the gun passed the scan as the wand was run over him one final time.

Chavik was surprised at the assemblage in the Vulture and even more surprised to see Rattler on the podium. But Rattler had always used any means necessary to accomplish his goals. After the meeting Chavik searched Rattler out. "What is all this and what was with that message you sent?"

Wold's mind was calm now. The civilian business didn't bother him. If this was an elaborate trap he was already cought and if there was a job to do then the tools would be given when it was time. Leaning back in the chair he gave a nod to Rattler and Savage and waited patiently for the rest of the briefing. [/rp]

Modified LRT-15 Transport S.S Vulture

Command Deck Briefing Room

After Blades gave his briefing, I looked around and noticed that I was the only other member of Orion here. At first I felt a little uncomfortable working with the Insurgents, but figured if I must, then I need to put my feelings aside and get the job done. I also noticed that most of the Galcom officers amongst us, never served under Blades. If they didnÔÇÖt know him as good as I did, would they fully be able to trust him? I also assumed that Rattler would equally have his hands full with the Insurgents.

I promptly got out of my seat and went over to Blades and pulled him aside.

ÔÇ£Sir, I just want you to know, you have my complete and utter support during this mission. I know that most of the people hear have never served under you. I am hereby offering to help keep them in-line, for I know you and Rattler are going to have your hands full. They are going to need someone to keep the morale up when the going gets tough. I feel I am that person, for my experience as Orion XO has done me well. But if you donÔÇÖt feel I am needed that way, I understand.ÔÇØ

Sorry Jamont. Akuma is currently doing pre flight stuff and isn't exactly avaliable right now. You could catch up with the aimless wanderings of Kirin though.

Sorry for jumping the gun there Blades. My fault entirely. I really should learn not to be a hypocrate. cwm6.gif

SS Vulture, Briefing room

After returning Jamont's greeting and talking to him for a little bit, I fiddled around with the datapad, I thought about asking a question. f**k it, I'm not going to say no and leave this job undone...but better to say this anyway, I thought. I asked out loud, "What if we say no? What will happen to a person that says no?" I relaxed back into my seat, awaiting a answer...and waiting for the people to quit staring at me....

Docking Bay of SS Vulture

Commander Stone had been watching from a distance as the Mercenaries let in several different Commanders, Galcom and Insurgent. He didn't know what to make of this but he had no doubt that it was something big. His bionic eye had scanned each officer and told him that some of them were important figures of both sides.

As he watched the Insurgent Officer who was identified as Vice Admiral Chavik enter the ship he fired a drone into the doors. It flew passed the Mercs without them noticing and clamped unto the wall of the interior of the ship.

The doors closed and he caught a glimpse of the drone unfolding itself into what resembled a small insect.

A screen appeared on the top right of his view and he could now see what the drone saw. Pulling out a remote control Zeke sent the drone after Chavik as the Vice Admiral walked through the ship.

Zeke found that the small device was extremely difficult to control as it moved about much like the bug it resembled. The drone soon lost track of Chavik and Zeke had to find his way around on his own.

After some time of searching the ship Zeke was surprised to find it powering it's engines to leave the station. Zeke acted quickly and contacted his ship with his portable communicator.

"Jake, beam me directly to the bridge and launch the ship ASAP!"

"Aye Sir," Jake replied and he began to feel the transporter effects taking place.

[/rp]

Blades if you have a problem with my drone device, tell me now and I will have it destroyed somehow. Otherwise I plan on hearing what you tell them about the mission and although this device has no audio Zeke can read lips.

S.S. Vulture Docking Bay Entry Hatch

Pixan, Lennon, Syruis

At the front of the briefing room, Savage received an urgent communique. It seems that something had happened at GHq itself. He had it piped through the shipboard comm system throughout the Vulture ...

GNN Headline News...

We interrupt regularly scheduled programming to bring you a live update on the explosions that ripped through Galactic Command Headquarters a few days ago. We now go Brett Mushberger at Ghq ...Brett, what has been going on at Galactic Command Headquarters since the explosions a few days ago...?

Well Connie, things are returning to some semblence of normalacy here at Galactic Command. Though they were not always this way over the past day or so. Security is still very ... very tight but nothing that personnel assigned here are not already use to.

The GALCOM PAO has just released their preliminary statement on to the cause of the mysterious explosions that ripped through the bowels of Ghq, causing significant structural damage to the station, and killed at least 55 people with one person still missing. The names of the personnel killed during the explosion are being withheld pending notification of the deceased next-of-kin.

Brett, has GALCOM started the ivestigation yet as to what caused the explosions? [ - static ]-

What was that Connie? I lost you there for a moment...

Brett, I asked how was the investigation going? Has GHq security determined who or what caused the explosions?

Getting info from GHq Security is like pulling teeth from a newborn babe Connie, so I cannot report whether or not progress is being made in the investigation. As to what caused the explosions - speculation is running rampant here in the press box. From Insurgent Terrorists, Gammulan SpecOp Forces, malfunctioning equipment, to operator headspace. The one thing that we all are certain about here in the press box Connie, is that this was no accident. Someone or some organization deliberately placed and set those explosions off during GHq's version of the morning rush.

What about the missing person Brett? Has that individual been identified?

[ - Brett chuckles - ] Yes Connnie, the missing person has been identified but the name has not been released to the public - again pending notfication of next-of-kin. But we at the press box are speculating and think that we've solved this mystery. I did some digging and asking and general asking around the station the past couple of days and discovered several strange coincidences ...

Coincidences Brett? [ - Connie leans closer unconciously towards Brett's 'vid pix at GNN central - ] Do pray tell....

[ - a wry and smug smirk appears on the mug of Brett Mushberger -

Well Connie, my snooping turned up several different but somehow related facts....

  • The missing person is/was confined to quarters in the VIP suites pending trial by courst-martial.

  • A strange and mysterious transport appeared in Earth region and hyperjumped at the Jupiter jump point.

  • A Galactan Class MkII Battlecruiser that had been undergoing refit for the past several weeks disappears at the same time.

  • Both sides of the Jupiter jump point is mined at the time the transports departs Earth region.

  • The where abouts of at least one GALCOM Fleet Commander is UNKNOWN. Not unusual but higher irregular - GHq will neither confirm nor deny this but I think that there be a ring of truth to this odditty.

  • and last but not least, the prisioner never made it to the courts-martial.

[ - Connie sits back into her hair and contemplates what Brett had just revealed - ]

Talk about a can of worms Brett, aside from the Fleet Commander issue - got any leads on any of this?

Yes and no Connie, not much is known about the Battlecruiser other than some accounts that I overheard that elude to black or black death. Nothing concrete - just scuttlebutt. But that also ties into some of the rumors of a ghostship operating in the Gammulan, Credian, and parts of the Terran Quadrants. Sort of reminds me of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship sea-shanties my grand-pappy told me in my days of innocence and youth....

[ - Connie interrupts Brett - ]

You innocent Brett, I hardly ...

What ties all these seemingly separate incidents and happens together is the timing Connie. From what I have been able to ascertain is that all these events are not only related but they are the cause of the explosions at GHq. They all did what they did at approximately the same time. Only a few seconds or minutes separate these events from .......

[ - static - ]

[- generic GNN snafu queue appears - ]

That was the latest breaking news on the explosions that ripped through GHq a few days ago. We now return to regularly scheduled programming after a word or two from our sponsors.....

end GNN Headline News

Savage was stunned somewhat at what he heard; 55 dead and one mission prisoner. He scanned the crowd of motley fools searching, searching for the target of his wraith tongue.gif towards the back of the room with his back leaning against the wall and his arms confidently folded across his chest. Standing - no quasi-hovering over him like a mother hen - was another man. One that he did not recognize but new was, is, could be trouble. Savage returned his gaze to the target of his wraith, ignoring the many fools that were attempting to kiss his arse. Their eyes met and if looks could kill, it was like the ancient old west gunfights, both men would've been dead at the same time.

York was bored but kept himself busy watching the crowd a trying to keep his charge out of trouble. So far he didn't like what he had heard from the man called Savage - whom he had never seen, met, nor even heard of. He heard the GNN report and immediately began to scan the crowd again - looking for trouble before trouble found him. The Mercs at the sides of the room tightened their grip on their weapons and tried to get themselves ready for whatever may come without being obvious - didn't work. Then York happened to notice the subject of Savage's gaze at the same time his charge did. A battle of wills was underway between his charge and Savage. York caught movement out of the corner of his eye. The Man behind the Mirrored Glasses moved over to Savage and whispered something into his ear.

Savage involuntarily flinched, the first setback between the two opponents locked in a battle of wills. He recovered gracefully and was about to make his counter-attack when he heard Rattler whisper into his ear...Stand Down Savage! Which broke the spell between the two and rose Savage's ire three-fold over what it already was. He gave Rattler a look, or at least he tried to. Hard to stare down an opponent or anyone when one cannot see their eyes.

Rattler dismissed Savages antics and resumed his place a few paces way from Savage. Rattler had a smile on his face. One that he had not had for some time. This is going to be good he thought, now we will see what this pirate is really made off. The GNN report had troubled Insurgent One too. Accusations would be flying around faster than the clap on a sailing vessel. But he couldn't worry about that now, he was on a mission. Hopefully it wouldn't end up like the last time he had joined forces with the 'commies....

Gallion was chuckling to himself. So far he had not heard one decent or even intelligent question asked by this gaggle of motley fools to either of the men at the front of the room. Shaking his head from side to side and chuckling to himself, Gallion made his way forward. He recognized some folks, Liev - head of the new peashooter-drivers wing in the fleet, Ben Somerset - mister spit and polish, or so he thought, and the Deer was near Rattler - he hadn't seen him in a while. As he neared to where the two men were positioned, Gallion stopped. Crossed his arms in front of him, resting his elbows in each hand. York he knew hovered nearby - watching his back and the gaggle. The sound of idle chitchat and the many mini-conversations diminished and then stopped when Gallion ceased his movement towards the front of the briefing room. He paid the throng no nevermind as he drew in a slow deep breath and exhaled....

"You know Savage, you have balls to show yourself here," Gallion continued without giving the still steaming Orion Fleet Commander time or a chance to respond, "I've been listening to this charade long enough. I've watched several of these motley fools trip over themselves as they came up to kiss your arse. What the hell has been going on in this quadrant for the past years? Is this what the academy and Fleets are producing nowadays? A bunch of kiss-arse artist that couldn't lead a horse to water or hit the broad side of a barn from the inside?"

"I've yet to hear one intelligent or even decent question from any of you fools gathered here today," Gallion said to the silent throng surrounding him without taking his gaze from the main foci of his wraith - Savage, "does anyone here remember what happened the last time the Insurgency and GALCOM allied themselves for the common good?"

"Think back gents and lasses, it was not all that long ago that the Gams came a calling to our little neck of the woods..."

"All I hear is talk Savage," then tenor of Gallion's voice sharpened to that of a blade, "and talk from you ain't worth squat or the air it takes for you to spew it out. Look around you Savage, what do you see...? I see a bunch of fish out of the water, a bunch of fools that are out of their element, a bunch of casualties that are waiting to happen...and all on just your word."

"What I want to know is this...." Gallion went on to describe some of what he wanted to know. All the while he knew that this kettle could boil over right into his face, but he couldn't help getting the last jab in at Savage, the man that had him arrested and had made serious charges against him. The man primarily responsible and behind his trial by courts-martial, the man is Gallion's current and biggest target, "So you see Savage, your blades are awful dull and are no better than ballast weight....heck ye can't even use them fer wickets..."

Somerset stood nearly dumbfounded at what he had just seen Gallion do. He knew that Gallion thought he was too caught up in military protocol and all of its pomp and circumstance. True, he believed in the chain of command, and even in some of the procedures that dated back over a millenia. He approved of side parties and bosun's whistles, even if they were dated. They were a sign of respect, rank, and experience.

But Gallion had a point. Why was it they were here? And exactly what had Savage gotten them into? They were now in the middle of a full blown war, and he had ordered them away from pressing duties throughout GalCom space to meet here.

He understood Gallion's animosity toward Savage, since the rumor mill had said it was Savage that got Gallion sent up before a general court-martial. Gallion's also right about what a disaster Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune turned out to be when we worked with Insurgents. Especially Neptune...

Which is when something very disturbing dawned on him. Just as it was then, the order to cooperate was illegal. And that meant it didn't have to be obeyed.

"Sir," he said even now being unable to forget protocol "Commander Gallion is quite correct in his questions and statements. However, there is another point I would like to address. At this moment you are in direct violation of no less than 5 GalCom penal level offenses. Conspiring with the enemy, aiding the enemy, attempt to incite mutiny, sedition, and treason. All of these call for court-martial, and there are enough officers present for at least a special court. With these deliberate violations, we are no longer legally required to obey your orders. I don't know how the Insurgents run things, but in GalCom we are required to follow and abide by certain regulations. You have not. So I suggest that you choose your next words wisely, because mercenaries or not, your career depends on them."

Sitting in a chair on the bridge she glanced at her time piece and shook her head. "Blades, where are you?" She leaned back and closed her eyes. "Damn I'm tired."

Meanwhile Kirin, realizing he had been late for the briefing and found out he had not actually been assigned quarters finds a quiet place to sit and meditate. "Too much going on." He mutters. "Where did Akuma go off to?"

Savage regarded both Gallion and who he correctly deduced was Commander Ben Somerset with the sort of glare reserved for grade A psychopaths and the result of treading in somthing unsavoary on a walkway. Despite Rattlers efforts to calm his boiling blood, he couldnt hold himself back from a goaded reply after the SIN wings commander opened his noise blower and sounded off.

'In case you havent been paying attention commander, we're in the middle of a situation that could very well result in the end of human civilization as we know it. Or did you miss that part of the briefing? Let me refresh your memory. We are here to recover Akira from the Earthcom agency that took him. We are doing this to prevent Akira's knowledge of Insurgent bases, fleet movements and a myrid of other clandestine information being used to conduct a preemptive strike that would plunge us into a bloody civil war. Heres another eye opener for you. We are currently at war with the Gammulans, who I am pretty sure you will remember from not so long ago, are more than capable of giving us another short kick in the ass you remember all to well. Just imagine what they will do when GalCom ships are diverted from the front to engage the massive Insurgent war machine we have all been pretending didnt exist? Thats right commander, they waltze in with their big assed size twelves, punch all the way through to the home systems and drop the mother of all bombs on Disneyworld and hey presto, Micky is riding a mushroom cloud all the way to Cambodia. End result, humanity becomes a sidenote in the Gammulan Empires book of conquests.'

Savage paused for a moment and allowed Somerset to return his glare. 'Are we paying attention now? Good ...'

Somerset looked as if he was about to protest when Savage again cut him down. 'As interesting as it is that you choose to quote rules and regulations to me, it has no relevance to this assembly. I 'asked' you here for a very secret, and very special operation. You know why I have brought you here. The legality of the situation has no relevance what so ever. This is an illegial operation. I am guilty of conspiring with the enemy, I am guilty of aiding the enemy. Im probably going to be guilty of all the other charges you can throw at me right now. You want to know somthing else Im guilty of? Im guilty of bringing most of you into this. Im probably going to be guilty for getting most of you killed. You know what Im not going to be guilty of? I will not be guilty of sitting back and allowing those misguided *******s back on Earth to destory everything we know. I will not let Rattler try to pull this off by himself and potentially blow the one real chance we have to stop this. And I will not let any one of you stand in my way of this. Not on my watch.'

Savage paused for another moment while he let this sink in. 'Should any of you feel it is neccesary to report this to your superiors may do so after the operation is complete. I wont stop you. If any of you decide not to patricipate in this operation and try to make contact with your superiors before this operation is completed, I will have you killed to protect it's secret. If any of you agree to assist us and then attempt to sabotage the mission, again, I will have you killed on the spot. These boys here are not just for decoration. They have been paid extreemly well to follow my instructions to the letter, and they will not be turned.'

Savage sighed and lowered his gaze slightly. In a qieter voice, he added 'If you are with us, we welcome and thank you. If you are not, say so now and you will be comfortably held in a secure facility until the operation is complete, one way or the other. Stay, and theres a very good chance you wont be coming back. Go, and you get to live in the knowledge that your contribution could have been the difference between saving the human race, or dooming it. Again, the choice is yours .....'

Savage turned away from the gathered officers and quietly took a secluded seat at the side of the podium. He looked tired, utterly drained. It was as if the last few moments of angry retoric had sapped the last of his strength away. However, just before Rattler could take over from where Savage left off, he jumped in for a final, if somewhat quiet, sentance.

'You and I have a problem, Gallion. This isnt a problem I want to have to deal with today. If you are with us, you do as you are told and nothing more. You want to take this up with me at a later time, you are free to do so. But for now we need to be united in this. Agreed?'

While Savage was giving his little speech the thought popped unbiddened into his mind, "Should I risk it? Is it worth it? Yes. You remeber the oath you took? It's time to take out some of those people that don't care what happens...as long as they get paid and get credit."

I stood to my feet and announced, "I'm in."
