A full description of the plaza can be found here

and it will be used as the roleplaying background for friendly fleet matches (i.e. no one can get killed, because it's all played out on the sports deck simulator)

Tacops Commander Remo Williams' imposing presence created a stir as he stepped through the east entrance to the food court, where he was enthusiastically greeted by Strategic Commander Zwycky.

"Welcome aboard, Remo! Glad you could make it. The Fighter duel scenario is set up as you sopecified, listed under 'Fighter duel gamma'. Our sectioon of the sports deck is being cleared and sweeped as we speak , and I'll meet you there in two hours. In the meantime, feel free to to take in the sights. You can head there early if you like to accustom yourself to the interface, but there's not much to learn. Just put on the suit, choose your scenario, then choose your fighter craft as you would from Miscon and deploy. From then on, it's just like the real thing, only no-one get's hurt. There'll be a few people following the action," Ben added, indicating the gathering crowd watching the pre-match build-up on one of the big screens. "Good luck to you." Ben concluded, extending his hand.

Guest Remo Williams

While IÔÇÖm not a RP writer in any sense IÔÇÖll attempt to play along here a little bit so please bare with me.

[RP]

Shaking Bens hand Remo looks up at the big screen capturing the event. ÔÇ£Nice place you have here Ben I look forward to trying out some of the food before my departure". "My staff has been talking about this place for weeks now I can see why." "If youÔÇÖll just have someone show me to my quarters so I can prepare for our simulation it would me much appreciated.ÔÇØ

Remo turns and looks off across the plaza at the entrance to the beer garden. ÔÇ£On second thought IÔÇÖll check out my quarters later Ben.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Lets go sample some of the house best to loosen up a bit first,ÔÇØ Remo said, as he started off across the plaza with his security escort.

[rp] "Well, if you think that'll help. Sorry I can't join you in a beer, teetotal since birth, but I'll have a pineapple juice to wet my whistle."

The two chatted about the general situation in galcom and their families back home, and time passed quickly.

The match build up on the screen came to a crescendo and the two stood and marched side by side throughn the south passage like two great gladiatorial heroes into the great circus, amid cheers of approval from various locations in the food court.

Five minutes later, they were in their cubicles and 'deployed' in their chosen craft. They jumped to the Castrin arena and Remo made the first move.

Then followed a flurry of laser bolts, missiles, tight turn and rolls resulting in slight damage to both fighter craft, but no decisive winner, and the two warriors disengaged. Then it was Ben's turn to charge in for another barrage of gunfire and spectacular manoeuvres that kept the audience in rapt attention before another disengagement. Ben then threw a little ploy and Remo took a chance but misjudged his jump, leaving him at the mercy of Ben's guns, which customarily showed none. This caused triumphant cheers and celebratory chants to erupt from the ISS contingent of the audience.

Both contestants shook hands after the contest and both were heartily applauded by all present. It had been a worthy display to inaugurate the new fleet season.

Spotting Str. Cmdr. Williams departing the arena, Cmdr. Grayson rushed to meet his commanding officer.

Upon reaching his target he let out his hand and shook hands, "Well done, sir. I didn't know you had that much experience flying a fighter. That was just fantastic."

Facing Str. Cmdr. Ben Zwycky, "This is a terrific facility you have, not many stations have Irish Soda Bread, but their have Irish Whiskey. I'd love to talk to you more about the development process, if you could spare the time, sir."

Ben turned to face the enthusiastic greeting from a voice that was somehow familiar. Matching the face to the voice made the connection click. Ah yes, of course, Prime fleet's public relations officer.

"Well thank you, Commander Grayson. It was a lot of work, yes, but well worth it, I'm sure you agree. Finding decent Gammulan and Valkerie chefs with clean security backgrounds was a real chore, I can tell you. What would you like to know?"

"Well, sir. I don't want to get into the specifics now, I'll just send you a message of some of the questions and ideas I have." replied Cmdr. Grayson

He looks around and glances at a sign that read Psi-Deck in big letters over a doorway.

"Pardon me, gentlemen. But something just caught my eye. I'll send you that message soon, sir." With that said Cmdr. Grayson walked off into the direction of the Psi-Deck.

Three engineers from a visiting Earthcom cruiser wandered into Renegade's recreation plaza and took in sights. One pointed at the Psi-deck's large view screen. Private First Class Mitch Falstaf's stomach growled. "Let's get some chow." He led the others into the food court.

Ben jogged from the sports deck to the lockers to collect his bag and then found himself an unoccupied shower cubicle. He stepped into the room, locked the door behind him and undressed, then moved on through the sliding doors to the cylindrical tornado shower unit itself. As he stepped through, a digitised voice gently announced,

"Adjusting interface," the four sets of four large jet nozzles traversing vertically with a gentle hum and click to be at the same height as his major muscle groups.

"Full access recognised. Please select program," it requested, and Ben chose the 'standard shower' option from the waterproof touchscreen in front of him. Water sprayed down through a central set of nozzles from the ceiling at a pleasant temperature. He looked up and let it fall into his face and then looked down to feel the spray on the back of his neck and shoulders.

"Not bad, let's try some of the other options, let's see... power shower," and pressed the relevant 'button'. Immediately the flow changed to a much more intense pulsing spray that gently massaged his shoulders.

"Nice," he enjoyed the sensation for a few seconds, then looked up at the screen again.

"How about... gentle rain?" And selected the option. A flow about the same strength as the 'standard shower' now came from nozzles spread across the whole of the ceiling, so there was no escape from the water.

"Interesting, I guess 'driving rain' will be the power shower equivalent of this, then," a short test confirmed this suspicion.

"What next? Let's try 'full body massage'," and a button press later the power shower flow was back at the central region, together with a similar pulsed flow from the sixteen horizontal jets that massaged up and down his calves, thighs, abdomen and chest region from four directions at once.

"Ooh, that's good, I'll have to come back to this one," then shut it down and looked at the last two items on the list, "Full body wash, that'll be a gentler form of what I just did and then there's - tornado. Well, I'm intrigued..." and selected it.

'This will initiate the tornado program for ten seconds. Are you sure?' Appeared in the middle of the screen.

"Okay, now I'm really intrigued, and a little scared, but..." and selected yes. A warning on the screen told him to stand in the centre of the floor and a five-second countdown appeared, but didn't begin until two solid-looking cylindrical handles slowly moved out from the wall to a comfortable arms length from him and then locked in place. The nozzles on the sixteen jets all widened and then the count began. Ben gulped and took the hint, grabbing firmly onto the handles and bracing himself.

As soon as the count finished, extremely powerful jets surged out of all of the nozzles at once, buffeting his body like he had never experienced before, the ten second duration suddenly seeming a lot longer than normal, and then they stopped just as suddenly, leaving Ben shaking and panting.

"Whoa," he coughed, "wow. I think that's enough experimenting for now," and then went back to the normal shower setting to finish.

On redressing and exiting the cubicle, he now had a large appetite and so headed for the food court.

Private Julian Pavel approached the counter as his companions found their seats. "My friends and I'd like your random breakfast menu item, complete with drinks. Surprise us." The barkeep glanced at him while filling a previous order. "ID please." Julian interfaced his Vanguard Fleet enlistment authenticator with the machine on the counter. "Alright, Julian. Thanks. I'll send it right over to your table." Pavel nodded at him and headed back to their table.

Meanwhile back at their table, "It's nice to get some time off the ship, isn't it Marisa?" Mitch said as he leaned back and rested his head in his hands. "I don't know, Mitch. You seemed to be enjoying 'fixing' the mid turboshaft over and over again." Mitch rolled his eyes. "I never actually finished, but was called away each time." Lance Corporal Marisa Valverde, nodded and gazed out the food court's main enerance into the plaza's central expanse which was large enough to house their entire ship. "Who's that Galcom officer headed this way?" she said and Mitch shrugged. "That's Prime Fleet Executive Officer dennymala." offered Julian as he approached from the other direction.

  • 3 weeks later...

[rp]Ben approached the East African food stand and ordered a plate of posho and goat stew with a bowl of sliced mango and pineapple and a bunch of four pygmy bananas, with a jug and large glass of passion fruit juice to wash it down. He carried his tray towards the central fountain, but on his way there noticed three individuals wearing Earthcom insignia and so changed course to 'intercept' them,

"Please allow me to welcome you all, I'm not sure I've seen any Earthcom personnel here before, are you the first? Please make yourselves at home, what do you think of our little establishment?" he inquired with a grin.

The main turbo-lift doors opened to the food court area. The doors, opened, awaited the occupants inside.

With a hard shove, the marine maneuvered the prisoner outside the lift, towards the empty tables within the food court.

It was a grand, circular hall, with high ceilings. Several shops and resturants circled the plaza, many of which were closed, with very few people about. Five marines stood tall about a lone prisoner... the prisoner, hand-cuffed with molecular-energy restraints.

The five marines separated, securing the area, as was their training, and stood at ease. The prisoner looked around his surrounding. It was better then where he came from, but he was still in chains, so it didn't really matter to him either way. They led him towards a collection of metal tables and made him stop.

He was smaller the the marines around him. Much smaller. He had been born with an edge...though he couldn't recall it. It was lost to him...he couldn't remember...

Half Human and half Gammulan, his natural appearance frigtened most humanoids...frightened those marines... Something to do with old age religions and demons, or some such nonsence. But he fit the bill, so he played the part...at least iinstinctively... They feared him, though he could not remember why. He had done nothing to them...or he could not remember...

Five years in solitary confinement had changed his conceptions. Alone for so many years, he had learned a great many things. About himself, and about his place...but he did remember.. his ship destroyed, his friends dead..and yet he still lived..unable to find death...death avoided him...death hated him..this at least, he knew...

He had learned much, yet knew nothing ..most of all, he knew nothing of this place..or why he was here...and why he was still in chains.

The marine, closest to him, unlocked the restraints. Blood returned to his wrists with needle point sharpness. He rubbed them. Instictively, he lowered his center of gravity, not knowing why, but remembering...something.

He stared at the marine..waiting...

The marine stared back, gathereing the restraints and placing them in pocket of his battle uniform.

Placing a 50 credit note of the metal table beneath him, the marine turned back towards the turbo-lift. The other marines ran to join him. Not a word was said.

Shingen was free,

but lost in a world he didn't comprehend...

[/RP]

Derek, if you don't want me here, then kill the post and ban me..leave everyone else alone. Otherwise, I'm going to join the community and RP here.

The recreation plaza is not open to the public, it is a high-security recreation area, only for galcom and allied staff and diplomats. There is no way a dangerous prisoner would be released there. SC was very clear in his instructions, please do not cause any trouble.

sorry.. no trouble here.

Nothing in this thread states that it is "closed to the public".

In future, be more specific.

I was just trying to add a little "flavor" to the whole scene.

Sorry you didn't appreciate the effort.

Again, I stand corrected.

This thread is open to participation fom everyone, just the description of the plaza linked to in the first post includes the fact that it is just for rp characters that are Galcom staff or diplomats from other alliances, though looking at it again, I neglected to add that info in the main 'what is this place?' description, just in the ISS Fleet Information Centre description (which I really need to elaborate on and do a diagram for like I did for most of the rest of the areas). This is my fault for which I apologise.

The only way in to the Plaza is via the fleet information centre, there is a main elevator lobby leading to a row of security checkpoints through to the information centre, so that anyone with a clean security background can enter that. At the other end of the centre is another row of security checkpoints leading to the plaza itself, restricting entrance to that to Galcom or allied staff and recognised diplomats. All elevators within the plaza itself are purely internal to the plaza complex and don't link to teh rest of the station (with the exception of service elevators to the food stands linking to the floor below, which is where food supplies are brought in and is only accessible to plaza staff). In an emergency, people can be transported out if the main entrance is blocked.

The information centre itself is comprised of two floors, the main ground floor is a large botanical water garden with various pools, waterfalls, trees, flowers and paths, benches in some places and tables and chairs in others. There are also some information terminals in various corners. Access to the transparent upper floor (half the size of the lower floor) is via glass elevators or a wide transparent staircase with a waterfall cascading down inside it. On the upper floor are some basic food stands (offering the lower end of the Earth menus found in the food court, a large communal area with tables and chairs and some manned information and recruiting desks.

If you want access to the plaza you can be a diplomat for an alien nation, a representative of a corporation, a terran sports star coming for a contest on the sports deck, as long as your character has a clean security background.

Your effort is appreciated, it just unfortunately doesn't fit in this setting.

OK, there is a way to include Shingen's contribution without endangering those wanting to enjoy the plaza:

[rp]

"Are there any signs that he noticed the transition?"

"Not so far, sir, scenario Chi Lambda Six is running smoothly, he was tranquillised while in a normal phase of sleep and only transferred into the cubicle and hooked up to the simulator once his vital signs were stable. He is heavily restrained, though will not notice that since the psi-deck interface overrides his normal sensations with simulated ones corresponding to the virtual environment. We have a UPS and backup generator on standby to avoid power loss issues and are monitoring his vital signs carefully for any signs of rejection. His liquid nutripack feed and catheter tube lead out of the cubicle, meaning it does not have to be opened except in an emergency, and the cubicle is heavily barricaded and soundproofed. Should an unavoidable issue arise, the cubicle will be flooded with anaesthetic gas before simulation shutdown."

"Very good, lieutenant, carry on, you will be relieved in four hours, then file a report on his activities."

"Yes, sir."

[/rp]

OK, so Shingen has not really been released, he is in a specially adapted psi-deck cubicle in the Brig in ISS station (there are twenty of them in the brig atm). He has 'actor' status (see the description of what that means in the psi-deck description http://www.issfleet.com/modules.php?name=F...wtopic&t=63" target="_blank">here, though without the option of exiting the program and is not aware that he is in a simulator.

The guards observing him have 'director' privileges and will be watching to see how he reacts and what choices he makes in the situations he faces, while subtly making sure any 'danger' he faces doesn't end up 'killing' him. The simulated world is a fairly precise replica of the ordinary rp world, though with some differences to avoid giving him access to classified info (e.g. that the plaza is an ordinary recreation area open to the public without stringent security checks, so he is free to leave it should he choose and it doesn't have any simulators in it so as not to arouse his suspicions). He will be interacting with extremely sophisticated AI characters, basically indistinguishable from real people.

As a result, he is free to do anything he wants and go anywhere in this simulated world, though there will be realistic obstacles to achieving any outlandish feats, while his actions will have absolutely NO impact on the 'real' rp world going on outside, so other people wanting to enjoy the plaza can do so and feel free to ignore whatever is going on in his story, but they have the option of playing the part of an AI character in the simulation should they so wish (anything they want that's compatible with his current situation), but should be aware that since their character is only virtual it is dispensable.

To this end, anyone wanting to interact with Shingen in this way will need to use an additional set of tags within the normal rp tags, for example:

[rp]

Ben got talking with the Earthcom staff about their journey to the station and introduced them to the facility's main features.

[sim CL6]

A somewhat drunken man stumbled his way over to Shingen's table and sat down inelegantly,

"Whassup there, mate? You look like you've been in a brawl or twoo... oo, heehee. Lemme know who did it an' I'll go give 'im a thumpin' or summing, yeah. Have you tried the beer they got 'ere, two hundred and thirty four varieties ya know, hat's off to 'em for looking after ush and thinking of our perti... perticuler needs and all 'at"

[/sim CL6]

[/rp]

Let's be creative,
