The Internet for all?

I'm running under subsidised internet access, no joke.

Whe the governmental program came to light, people disagreed with the stupid spendings at over 800M cnd, but then again, little could be done to stop that... so we got our id number and got about 40% (or 15$ whichever comes first) discount on our internet for 2 years, ending at march 2002. This is how we got broadband, as I was stuck before on a unstable free add-supported internet using a external 14.4 modem. Ouch.

So instead of paying around 45cnd inc. tax a month, we're paying around 30cnd. Nice.

Bah!

ItÔÇÖs another bit of socialism trying to work its way into our economy. Once people get the idea they are ÔÇ£entitledÔÇØ to money they start coming up with more things that they are entitled to money fore. IÔÇÖd vomit if I didnÔÇÖt like this keyboard so much.

10 WARNING SIGNS YOU MAY BE TECHNOLOGICALLY IMPAIRED

Being technologically challenged or impaired is nothing to be ashamed about.

In fact, millions of people suffer from it daily. Many, however, don't recognize their condition, and unless they talk about it, these people are often difficult to diagnose. It is our sincere hope that the following list of Warning Signs may serve as a guide to help you, or someone you know, make an informed decision.

After sending someone an email, you phone to tell that someone that you've sent them an email.

All your bookmarks are tech support sites.

Look at your email address. Does it end in "aol.com"?

You keep forgetting which side of the mouse you use to "right-click."

All your bookmarks are genealogy sites.

When your computer freezes, and someone tells you to turn up the heat in the room, you actually do it.

When installing software and it asks if you want to do a "normal" or "custom" install, you get upset that there is more than one option.

You say things like, "With my new 850 Mhz machine, the Internet is much faster."

You ordered a computer with a CD-ROM, but instead it came with a stupid cup holder.

You are told about viruses such as ILoveYou and warned not to click the attachments, then the next day you get an ILoveYou email and click on the attachment because, well, it came from someone you know.

You mean it doesn't? So that Dell salesman lied to me.

That article is proof that socialists need to be shot. So the people don't have the internet. Maybe if they MADE MORE MONEY they could AFFORD the internet. Also, how exactly are the poor going to GET COMPUTERS to use the internet on? We need to provide those too? Maybe that money would be better used to increase defense spending, pay off the defecit, help social security (i may be against most social programs, but I want my grandparents taken care of), or maybe work on scientific or space tech. Socialism holds back society as a whole....

Actually, that was in the plan, they government paid 500cnd off a new computer, which I used to pay for one of my computers.

The schools are all wired -- why am I still paying the tax?

Umm umm. Dunno how it works elsewhere, but at the high school I was going, the school's ~100 computers were connected by a satellite uplink to the main school board hub (which connects all the schools in the said school board), which is connected to the main backbone T3 by a (I think) a quad T1. Now estimate the yearly costs of this.

And in 3 years I've been in that school, my average downloads were 35ks, peaks of about 75ks at times. Sucky, compared to what I get at home currently.

WeÔÇÖve had that proof for along time. A very long time.

On one side I have to wonder what kind of computer you could get for 500 Canadian dollars, on the other it seams like a lot to be handing out en mass.

I would rather have 500 rupees then 500 Canadian, at least rupees would be novel.

Well it's not enough to buy a whole computer, but it helped alot to buy something basic. In march of last year (2001), I used it to buy a K6-2 500 with 64mb ram and a 5 gig drive. enough to go on the internet.1 I upgraded it a little though, since I got it (mostly about 3 times as much ram)

I don't know what you mean by "novel", but you should know that (indian) rupees are worth 32 times less than a canadian dollars.

Tell me. Do you hate Canada? You're giving me more and more this impression to me.

I didnÔÇÖt know that, thanks. What I mean by novel is that I have never had a rupee before and it would be interesting.

Nothing of the type, I'm just joking with you. If I hated Canada (which would be ridiculous, by the way, there isnÔÇÖt anything worth hating in Canada, or most anywhere else for that matter) you wouldnÔÇÖt have to ask.

That's only because his Intel representative lied to him, therefore he doesn't know any better.
