Bloggers gain libel protection

But SC, that mainly applies to autopublishing of someone ELSE's content, right? I mean, it's like you're not responsible for insults traded across this forum (not that there is any). It's like the way the ISP is not responsible for stopping P2P.

If you're the only person who posts to YOUR weblog or mailing list or whatever, you're surely NOT off the hook...

I think it basically lets all bloggers off the hook. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to recognize that some websites charge a fee and, consequently, don't meet all the criteria mentioned in the article.

This is nothing new. It's been going on since us humans have been walking on two legs bashing each other in the head. Hey, maybe this even went on when we still crawled around on all fours but that we will never know. Take for example the Salem Witch trials. All you needed was a bunch of PMS teen females pointing a finger at you calling you a witch and you were pretty much a barbecue feast. What scares me is that mentality is still around and now it's faster with the internet but in this day and age it's not the burning stake that's gunna kill ya it's the lawyer fees that will just to clear your name. Anyway.........

Some plausible questions about this comes to mind. Why and how would a North Carolina handyman come up with such a story? Why would the other person involved be so stupid as to talk within earshot of anyone about their heritage? Especially that of a Nazi lineage.

Maybe he misunderstood and she said that she aquired these art works from a relative of a Nazi not that she was herself the relative. Either way those works of art are possibly ill gotten gains (if the remarks are true) and should be returned to the proper owners (pre-nazi). The article never mentions if these paintings are in fact lost/stolen or if anyones actually investigated

her lineage.

If this guy did make all this up out of spite what an fertile immagination he's got.

As for the email. That whole thing was handled rather poorly. First off the publisher should have sent the un-altered email to law enforcement first US and European. If they confirm the contents as true then you publish. If after they've investigated and came up with no way then forget it. Either way the originater of the Email should have been posted as to the outcome and to their intent on this matter. But since they did not all they got and deserve now are headaches.

As for the end user read the web sites disclaimer if it states that they can do whatever they want to your posts or emails don't use that site if you don't like that policy.
