I'd like to see better helmsmen. There is nothing more aggrivating than investing a-lot of time in a game only to lose it when a ship in formation rams yours and destroys it or your helmsman rams a ship you're escorting. I know saving often will help but when I'm embroiled in a game I don't want to stop the action to save sometimes. Maybe you could give the autopilot/helmsman better ai in a future patch or in 3020.

This has happened to me, but it may reflect experience points of the helmsman. Every personnel member improves over time in rpg style, I think. One thing I have done is to take off auto pilot when I see that I'm closing in on the ship I'm escorting and lower the throttle. This usually happens near a jump point so I don't have to sit on the bridge all the time. I can skip around and then when a jump point nears I hop back to the bridge and turn off autopilot until the ship I'm escorting has safely jumped, then I turn auto back on, jump, and turn it off again when I near the next jump.

Thanks Nikolai. I've used these techniques but still have some trouble with ships escorting me ramming me. The SC says this will be remedied in v2.03, due out this weekend probably smile.gif. The EP excuse is ok I guess but it don't wash. Who would let an unqualified person get behind the wheel of a 200 gazillion credit BC.

You will find tha as the AI level of your crew (Officers, Pilots, Jarheads, etc..) improves (raises) they will do everything better. Try collecting cargo with a FE pilot with an AI of 8? Doesn't happen.

Nikolai's tip works, there are times when I do the same thing. A/P on/off, go to maunal control (I use the keyboard) to get on course quicker.
