Well, correct me if I'm mistaken, but no one is getting a starship in a planet side battle. It would be interesting to have missions where a carrier drops support crafts and personnel (players, not AI) onto a planet to accomplish an objective, with other players playing the ground side marines and pilots, but I don't think that would be in BCM and probably not BCG as I understand it. We can hope though.

I may of mis-read your statement but usualy I take my CC into the planet and launch my attack from the CC. Launch fighters have them take out the sam's and have your CC shooting up everything in sight *There lotsa PTA turrets on most carriers* two players working together from CC's over an enemy base should be able to do a great deal of damnge without there fighters and marines on the ground but once you add the other forces there are ALOT of targets to choose from. (Of course you'll take loads of damnge attempting this http://www.geocities.com/awl_snotglass/index.html if you hadnt already seen this screenshot its worth a look)

-Ignore the text on that page it just prevents them from deleteing my geocities page since it looks like somethings there-

Has anyone wonder what part gunships would play in this discussion related to defending shuttles?

Well, the Marauder (was HAG) and Intruder (was LAG) gunships should be able to transport some troops, lay suppressive fire with its door mounted gun (controlled by players) etc. So, I think that even though shuttles aren't armed, sending in a pair of gunship escorts (more effective a such escorts than fighters), would probably ensure a safe ingree/egrees.

Here are some pics of the Marauder. Try not to scream too loudly.

You can jam two ground units (vehicles, sams etc) into the loading bay as well. This way, you can use this for long range deployment.

Apart from the git (a player) manning the door gun, four people (players) can sit in that cabin; then there's the pilot (player), top turret gunner (another player) and that loading ramp can probably squeeze another six players or so - those crazies who want to take the risk of sniper bait.

Here are some shots using NPCs to illustrate what I mean. Notice the spotlight coming from under the craft.

Jason should be finished with the Intruder soon and it too has similar capabilities.

It always did when you point at friendly with your weapon held.

Awesome shots...I can just imagine the tactical deployment options with this beast!

Looks great S.C. I can't wait for multiplayer. The immersion factor will go way up as I look to my left and see someone like Jaguar running next to me instead of an NPC as we storm an enemy base.

Keep up the good work.

NIIICE gunship, SC...

I discounted them in my shuttle comments because the BCM gunships are more like attack-fighters (A-10, Su-25, etc) than helo gunships (no free-fire-rockets, tracking chin turrets, or other helicopter features). That mode of play would add even more realisim (since IIRC, the Army usually gives transport helicopters a gunship escort in these sorts of situations)

Reminds me of an RAH-66 Commanche, or the 'Orca' from C&C...

Now if that chin turret actually auto-tracks like a modern helo-gunship (where the pilot or gunner looks at a target (= selects it in the BC series) through a helmet-mounted-display, and the gun auto-aims, just fly and fire) and can carry FFARs (guided missiles are great for hard targets, but on troops, small scatter-fire rockets are much better)... Then we've got a 3010AD helo replacement...

atm, it is a regular gun which you manually point and shoot. The tag can be changed into a regular turret (which you will have no control over) which just auto-tracks and fires as turrets normally do.

The different between turrets with articulated joints in BCG is that the joint will manually turn to the directly of fire - unlike how it is now in BCM which doesn't support this (i.e. the direction the turret barrel is pointing does not change with the turrets actual firing direction).

And right now the gun fires Type 4 APR rounds and the launchers can carry 6 Radix and 4 Ralar missiles.

btw, the HAG, LAG, PAS1 and PAS2 crafts have been replaced with the Marauder, Intruder, Firebug and Skeeter gunships.

By gunship I mean lethal and tough looking crafts, as opposed to the smaller PAS crafts in BCM. In fact, the Intruder is modeled after the MH53J Pavelow III helo and the Firebug and Skeeter are modeled after the AH64D and UH60 Blackhawk helos. By modeled after I mean inspired by and what the 3030AD rendition would be like and in a sci-fi setting.

OMG, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen in my entire life. I've ALWAYS loved Dropships and large VTOL transports! As the guy above me said it reminds me of Tribes only this baby looks SO much cooler! The one in tribes just let you lock your feet in and ride an adward looking thing. This baby looks real and you get INSIDE it! I can only imagine what it is going to be like to shoot one of these down and watch all the ground pounders inside screaming and jumping out trying to hold onto their precious lives ! Muwahaha, awsome job SC!

Just wondering a few things.

1)When you get into the transport will it be first person so that you can look around or out the doors while you're flying?

2)Will you be able to get shot inside the transport if some lucky sniper can get a good look at you from a strange angel while the ship turns?

3)Will you be able to move around inside and perhaps even SNIPER out of the doors past the gunner or off the back ramp?

4)Will you be able to close the back ramp to protect the things inside or will it always be open?

5)When you go VTOL will any of the engines move to face the ground ? (not really important, would just look neat) and if so will the engine burn any marines stupid enough to stand under them?

6)Why use a shuttle at all when you have everything you need right here? This seems like it would make shuttles totally useless.

7)Will marines be able to jump out before the ship lands and use their jetpacks? Will the things packed inside (OCs) Be able to drive out the back while the ship is still in the air for lightning drops at the expensive of a bit of damage?

8)Will it be possible to damage the OCs inside with a missle of laser blast from a fighter or an enemy gunship?

9)I assume it will be possible to turn off that spot light, it kinda gives you away if you're trying to be stealthy. Is it also possible for it to be shot out? Will it blind people if shinned into their eyes ? : )

The guys that came up with this thing are my heros, I can't wait to see what else you come up with in the near future. Keep up the good work!
