All our games require the downloaded patch file to be copied into the game install folder and executed from there. If you execute the patch from anywhere else (e.g. downloaded to your desktop), it will not apply correctly and you will have problems. Then you will have to uninstall the game, delete the folder and re-install from scratch. Then apply the patch properly.
AUTOMATIC PATCH UPDATING
Our newer games since Universal Combat - A World Apart (2005) also have an automatic updater. Running this updater ensures that the correct patch is downloaded and applied. You can run the updater by going to START/PROGRAMS, navigating to the game folder and running the "Check For Updates" shortcut. You can also do this by manually running the updater.exe file located in the folder where the game is installed. You must be connected to the Internet in order to do this. If a new patch is installed, you will have the option to download and apply.
When using the updater, the downloaded patch file is stored in your game install folder. So you can copy it to a safe place in case you need to re-install it at a later date.
AUTOMATIC PATCH ROLLBACK
The updater updates the game's version in the SETTINGS.INI file after a patch has been downloaded and applied successfully.
If you wish to use the updater to rollback to a previous game version, you can do the following. This is NOT supported however and should only be attempted if you determine that the entries in the SETTINGS.INI file are incorrect.
Quit the game and open the SETTINGS.INI file in Notepad
Change the version= value to the previous patch version e.g. version=1.00.03.01 to version=1.00.03
Save the file
Run the Updater
Note that if you set the version to a non-existent patch version, the Updater will fail to locate it and then abort the process with an error message.
WHERE TO DOWNLOAD MANUAL PATCHES
You can also download all the patches directly from our games page or from some third party sites which host them.
HOW TO DETERMINE THE LATEST GAME VERSION
When you start the game, the latest version is indicated on the game's main menu splash screen.
If the game will not start, you can determine your version by looking at the version control file included with the game as that will show the latest version that you installed.
HOW TO PATCH THE STEAM VERSION
There are no manual patches for any of our Steam games. Patches are sent to Valve for them to make available through Steam. If you run Steam and a new patch is available, it will be automatically downloaded and installed if you have this enabled in your Steam settings.
