[rp] Without her crew, without her master, the Nevermore drifted. Had all things gone according to Akira'a plan, the Sark would be listing in silence. A solitary shuttle sped its way across the void. But it was too late. The Nevermore drifted into the minfield meant for the Sark and was ripped to pieces from bow to stern. A small package was auto ejected during the explosion. It would drift with the rubble of the deceased Nevermore. It was valuable to Akira but only Akira would know what to look for. His honor was in that box. His life was in that box. His future was in that box. ------------------------- Words, and sounds were making sense now. Akira knew better than to open his eyes. He was aboard a ship, possibly in the detention hold if it had one. What was important to Akira was the missing buzz that had existed at the base of his skull since his last visit to Neptune. Remorse brought tears to his eyes as he understood that she was dead now. He'd spent a good many years with her. He'd given her everything a man could give. She was the best her race could offer. Now she was floatsam. Akira would rebirth the Nevermore or he would die by his captors as she had. The moment he'd joined with the Nevermore's systems and gone mad, she was as much a part of him as any female could be. Boots walked near his head. Akira quickly placed everything he was back into the small box in his mind. A man shouted some profanity that he didn't have time to hear. A flash of white zipped through his head as the gaurd brought the butt of his rifle to Akira's skull. Akira was blissfully unware as his body was beaten. Pain wasn't very effective when a person was unconcious. Akira's captors would soon figure this out, but for now Akira would dream of his childhood and the demons that haunted his soul. ------------------ Vice Admiral Akira Commanding Officer Bishamon Fleet ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 08-30-2000).]

Damn, I missed the fun Thanks, Blades, for painting such a nice picture for me Seing that EarthCOM is now in this, I'm formally inviting McQueen and Wolfe and any other EarthCOM type to join the fray. Otherwise, gentlemen, we, the players, will rp as a faction of EarthCOM and will not drag in the names of player members of EarthCOM. Well, fellas, looks like I'm in it again. I feel sorry for most of ya. If you thought Akira was at the least a worthy opponent, Jester is the wildcard that Akira aspires to become. Good work so far guys. This has a great chance to become another great epic battle both of flesh and spirit! P.S. I'll be posting as Akira on Thursday or Friday eve. If anyone needs/wants to discuss ideas or directions feel free to email me. I don't have any answers yet, but I'm always open to good ideas. ------------------ Vice Admiral Akira Commanding Officer Bishamon Fleet ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 08-30-2000).]

Pitch Black and Ronin were excellent movies. However, DarkHorizon, Ronin wasn't a merc movie. It was a movie about modern day masterless Samurai that weren't really masterless at all. The Frenchman and American were really working for their respective govt.'s

hehe, i was hoping gman or blades would post. heck, even akuma could input something. I just don't want to write someone else's assets as failing... Aside from those mentioned (Akira and Ninja scroll being the best) I really like the Hakkenden. Unfortunately, I don't like paying 20 bucks for two eps. I only collect feature length now. So, if it's a complete set, or a 90 minute or longer movie, I'm looking for it. Someone said that they dl'd all the Robotech series? I would love a copy. I can't seem to find the video's anywhere.

Fleet Database Prototype Online
Akira replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
I've just briefly looked over the DB. Not too bad Aside from the points already made (and coming from a fleet leaders POV) the abillity to sort by variouse fields would be nice. Perhaps by military rank, assigned station, assignment, career, # of kills, mp rank, etc. with rank being the default. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. [rp] "Sir, the Sark has acquired a firing solution." "Status of the minfield?" Chavik had taught Spectre well how to lay down a curtain of mines to cover one's tail. Akira was curious if it would realy work. "Cmdr., we have 75% reporting active. Rattler's IC's have pulled back after taking major damage at the fringe." Rattler wasn't going to like that and Akira knew it. Rattler's feelings, however, would have to wait. Insurgent One has spent too much time playing politics with the Insurgency. He shouldn't have stepped in when he did. Hell, he shouldn't have been here at all, Akira thought. He'd have to wait till the next Command Staff meeting to discuss battle tactics. Space was changing and the size of Spectre was indicating change was necessary within. Akira would use this day as an example. "Sir, the Sark is firing." Don't be so foolish to charge on your own, Miller. "Tactical, how many unknown ships have entered the region?" "At least two, sir. I'd have to check the logs for any I missed while calculating the minefield." "Negative. He's here. Out there. Somewhere. Cmdr. Miller wouldn't be so bold as to take on the Nevermore alone were he not trying to impress his boss. Time Sark's time to minefield?" "Thirty seconds at the current speed." "Combat, pull the reserves from the shuttles and cargo bays. I want everything ready to be refilled once ports are open. Tactical, give me a kill solution on the Sark. I want his ship drifting dead in space five seconds after he passes through the curtain. Providing he makes it that far." Sheilds at 75%, launch IC's 1 through 4. Combat, give me one marine patrol per deck on constant search. Atack plan Omega 7, everyone. Hunker down and make the few that get through look like they hurt us." The bridge crew responded in unison. Clacks reverberated through the bridge as everyone attached restraints. Two long range probes with datapacks launched. The Nevermore was the perhaps the most invulnerable Insurgent ship in the Spectre fleet, possibly in the whole of terran space as well. Akira never left things to chance, though. The Nevermore was not just any weapons platform. It doubled as Akira's thinktank. More technical assets came from the crew of RE's than most of the Insurgency combined. Akira wasn't about to let that data be harmed. Knowledge was power. Akira kept a lot of power. Explosions buffeted the Nevermore as the Sark's missiles began exploding against the curtain of mines. Akira looked at the apparatus attached to his chair. It would so easy for him to hook up to the command technology and vector in every Insurgent craft on the Sark. Like a god playing chess, Akira could coordinate the actions of as many warships the Fleet Commander desired. He drove that desire into the pit of his stomach. Rattler had urged him to get rid of that device so many times. And just as many times, Akira fought to keep it. He could win this one without the Command module. It was necessary, like the thousands of times since that day more than a decade ago, that he took care of this without the enhanced fleet control. The Nevermore rocked a little harder this time. "Reseting shields to 65% per Omega 7. The Sark has reached the minefield and has slowed to allow for it's IC's to open an hole," reported the Tactical Officer. "Help him. Launch 5 vagrants. Do as much damage as possible. Make sure the last get's through." "Aye, sir. 5 darts away." The nevermore shook harder this time. "Lucky shots, sir," Tactical remarked. Akira could hear the stress in her voice. This game of chicken was the hardest to play. Omega 7 required that his crew bring the Nevermore's shields to 3% manually as the attacker pressed. The ruse was meant belie the true nature of the Nevermore's modifications. "Shields at 42%." "Flight Officer, let's make it harder for the missiles to hit. We don't want Miller to think this is too easy." The bridge crew swayed as the pilot repostioned the Nevermore. A few missles impacted the hull, but more were hitting the mines now. "Shields adjust to 10%. The Sark has punched a hole through the curtain. She's on her way." "Very good." Another missle impacted where it would do serious damage to helm control on a normal BC. "Blow the false hull around that impact and begin venting gas." "F.O., ahead half speed and make it look like we're hurt. PTA's on manual and at 15%." The gunners in the PTA turrets were instructed to make the stream hit at random and no more than to cause the Sark to evade a little but urge its commander to press on. With the listing course the F.O. was flying, the hitting was harder than missing for the humans. "Tactical, count down the range. F.O. Bring the nose around with the countdown, but don't make it obvious. Everyone at the ready. On my mark, full sheilds, full PTA. Rain fire on the Sark. I want her disabled and disabled hard. Fleet Commander Blades should be just behind him. Be ready. We don't end the Sark until he shows his face." Tactical began the countdown. In a few seconds the Sark would emerge slowly from the minefield and be just within range. At that moment, she'd understand just how foolish a move she'd made. All eyes and sensors not currently tasked to rescue were one the small skirmish. No one, not even the cloaked three ship patrol waiting to back up Akira noticed the 4 Warmongers slip into the system. They were cloaked the moment they came through. 4 silent attackers made their way across the jupiter system well below Akira's curtain defense. They were well aware of his tactic and knew when best to attack. They wouldn't be able to save the Sark, but than, no one really could. Not even the two Orion ships hurrying to her aid. It didn't really matter. Their mission had nothing to do with the safety of GALCOM vessels in the area. They had one goal in mind. This time they were not going to fail. [/rp] ------------------ Flt. Well, i'm not giving a cease fire. Sorry, Akuma, but those mines weren't for your ship. In fact the tractor was disabled at the end of my last post, you should have cut and run. Oh well, you're in the stuff now. As for Miller, he must not realize that he's got about 20 missles with another twenty following shortly behind about 15 seconds from slamming into his hull... oh well again. cant't help you all. I will, though, give you a bit of time to write new posts and hopefully clean up your own messes... otherwise, next post will find a lot of you disabled and relying on Rattler's good will ------------------ Flt. "Sir, Cmdr. Akuma is opening fire and requestst that the tractor field be disengaged." "Gunny, have you completed planting the charges on the hull," Akira spoke to the air in front of him. A few of the bridge crew passed confused looks to each other. "Roger. I'm ten seconds from the hatch now." The marine Gunnery Sgt.'s voice was tinged with the metalic harmonics produced by his EVA gear. "Charges will be hot five seconds following." "Very, good. Combat," Akira switched focus, "prep your team to repell intruders. Injure and disarm if possible. I want captives but don't sacrifice your people. If capture is not clearly attainable, you are to execute with extreme prejudice." "Aye, sir. Teams are equipped and ten seconds from posts." "Tactical, ready sheilds. On my mark there will be a slight nudge, I want the tractor beam brought down sporadicly. Make them think we were damaged by Akuma's fire. Bring sheilds to 30%; full spread on the pta at 25%. A second set of charges will go off. I want the Nevermore to slowly spin on the x axis (left to rigt for you non aircraft types) and make her look like she's listing left. I want the nose around and pointing at Miller. "Once his ship is in range bring everything to full. Launch all missiles but save the Vagrants. Keep a steady flow of mines out the tubes. I want a lethal debris field between us and anything GALCOM throws our way. "Above all, keep your focus. If any of you perform a whim below your best, we'll be limping home if we get there at all." "Scared Orion's going to catch you, Akira?" Rattler whispered. "No. But I want them to think they can. Either way, you're safe. Strike Group Raven is ever present." "Hmm... Always a card up the sleeve, old friend." "Yes, Five to be exact. They're hiding just outside the Orion ship sensors." "What about probes?" Insurgent One was prodding but not at all concerned. "Jam them," Akira replied. "New modifications to the Nevermore?" "Always. Gallion's RE has worked very well with the other's. She's brought a brashness they need to think outside the box." "Well, we'll soon see if the Nevermore's enhancements live up to their owner's audacity." "The field is the best place to test. Numbers tend to lose something once human hands enter the fray. Crew," Akira bellowed, "on my mark. Three, two, one..." "Let the games begin," Rattler spoke to the ship's commander. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. [rp] "Mr. Kazumi, launch missles and try not to hit the Necromancer. Insurgent One like's his ship shiny and dent free." "Aye, sir. Missles away. Salvo 1. Salvo 2. Salvo 3. Salvo 4. All missles away and on target. Awaiting arming order," the Combat Officer replied dryly. "Incoming travler. Incoming Travler... Sir, it seems we have company." "Very good, Youko. Master at Arms, check Perscan for his location and escort Insurgent One to the bridge;permission to board with my compliments." As an afterthought, "Take a squad of marines. I'd rather not have to explain how the CIC was abducted by intruders from my ship during my watch." Akira shift his focus to his datapad. ********************* via secure shroud-net link 17 hops Alpha 21 encoded: ...GCV-Kurai is no longer a threat. Clean up crew requested. Personel proceeding to cell site 38 per action plan zeta... ********************* "Comms, relay a belay order to the Drakr and have him return transmit a readiness assesment with my compliments." "Aye, sir, orders encoded awaiting acknowledge from the Drakr," Yuoko paused, "Commander, Cmdr. Miller is broadcasting a request for peaceful resolution." Ms. Yamada relayed questioningly. "No, that won't do, Gman. I've got her and you must fight to get her back," Akira spoke to himself. To the crew, "A prize too easily won is cheap and just as easily forgotten," he replied staunchly. "Comms, hail Cmdr. Miller." Akira stood from his command chair. A tap on the eypiece and the hud's lense glowed ominously red. Resolved and full of purpose, he looked more like the statue of a tyrant than a mere Battlecruiser commander. "Channel open sir." "Cmdr. Miller," Akira's voice resonated from the pit of his stomach as he willed his words across the void, "I want Akuma Minako AND the Tenchi. There will be NO peaceful settlement. I," he emphasized, "am Spectre. I glide through the night and claim those souls I deam appropriate. Pray I do not choose to return for yours..." A flick of his finger off screen was all the cue Lt. Yamada needed. "Transmition terminated." "Good, let's see how long it takes for him to realize that Minako and the Tenchi are indeed very important to Orion." Akira melted back into his command chair a moment too soon. "Insurgent One on deck," the Master at Arms belowed. The entire command deck sprang from their chairs and into attention almost before they were fully oriented on the man. Salutes crisply followed as the whole of the crew present honored the Insurgent's Commander In Cheif. Fleet Commander Akira performed a crisp right face and profered a salute as well. "Taking things to the extreme as usual?" Rattler's gate was casual and easy. "As you were." Akira's crew returned to their duties with fervor anew. It was one thing to be aboard Spectre Fleet's command vessel. It was quite another to have your actions in full view of the top two military leaders in what was becoming the largest terran organization outside of GALCOM. "Only as it's necessary, sir." Akira closed the gap to his long time friend and they shook hands. "Savage's XO apparently sees me as his counterpart and that he can come to his counterpart with an olive branch. It's time for the lemmings to understand that when they deal with Spectre, they don't send their second's. Each and every member of Spectre deserves to be met by the best the foe has to offer; not to be offered peaceful resolution by a lemming lackey too afraid to scratch the paint on his parade only yacht." "And it makes Minako look like a victim and not what she really is..." Rattler broke in. "There's that too. But it's a tad less dramatic than the other reason, don't you think?" Akira smiled the way a shark might just before a meal of fresh fish. "You love these games too much, Akira." "You use the transporter too much, boss. What are you going to do when you hop ships and find your insides on the outside?" "Pray that the Cheif Medical officer is up to spec on cloning!" The two men laughed breifly. Neither of them seemed overtly concerned about the situation. It was a win win situation and all they had to do was play the game. Akira was in his element and the wise knew it. "Cmdr. Akuma has confirmed towing, sir," the comms officer relayed. Five seconds to Sark arrival." "Very good. Prepare to cut cloak engines and engage tractors. Ready one dummy vagrant, Kazumi. Shenji will drop the tenchi's sheilds upon impact." Akira hoped his man hadn't been found out just yet. "Momo, do you have enough of a window to retrieve our man?" "Yes sir," the Cheif Engineer replied, "providing he can get to the launch bay in time." "Very well..." "One ship in-bound. IFF reads GCV-Sark. She's found the Tenchi and Drakr. Stand by. Sir, the Sark has cloaked." "Mark her last position," Akira ordered. "Very good, Cmdr. Miller. Better to be cautious. Just remember, this is a retrieval opperation. It needs not be anything more," Akira spoke under his breath. A faint blink caught his eye. The datapad attached to his thigh had received an inter system communique via shroud-net. He tapped the screen. The jumbled code quickly reordered itself into a message. One of Akira's research facilities was under atack by a spacebourne vessel. ********************* via secure shroud-net link 17 hops Alpha 5 encoded: ...The GCV-Kurai has taken out four of six support craft and is moments away from finishing the remaining craft. Three ground to space missiles have been launched. Request orders... ********************* "Comms, relay to Cmdr. Wold: Your orders are to procede best speed to Varan. Disable one GCV-Kurai. Ensure that her records are destroyed by any means possible. Raven group will be nearby if you need assistance." "Aye, sir. Drakr has sent receipt of message," comms reported. "Kazumi, prepare a full salvo of questars. Tell your gunners to switch to manual fire and avoid loosin PTA fire on the Tenchi. Let's give Cmdr. Miller a reason to chase..." Akira paused. "ICV-Drakr is under way," the tactical officer reported. "...Standby tractor beam... Standby dummy... Fire; decloak; engage tractor. Arai, all ahead full. Make for the farthest jump-gate from our position." The orders passed from Akira's mouth calm and smooth as if he were ordering from a menu. Ther crew of the Nevermore executed each command with precision. Akira relished the moment as the g-forces pushed him into his command chair. "Sheilds down; one missile away; confirmed hit on target. Tenchi's sheilds have dropped. Tractor engaged." Tactical had barely enough time to relay the messages. Everything was happening almost at once. Now, Cmdr. Miller, Akira thought. Let's see what Orion's best has to offer my crew. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. Akira Commanding Officer Spectre Fleet ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series

[rp] "Aye, sir, the channel is confirmed coded Grey 7", the CO reported. Akira returned his focus to the Japanese woman. "Yes, Cmdr. Minako. I am fully aware of your situation. The damage caused is superficial. Your systems are reporting false information as intended. The death your perscan is reporting is false as well. We must keep up appearances. You understand." "My people have relayed that you, Cmdr., are one step away from being apprehended by Blade's right hand. Cmdr. Miller is two hops from our current location." Akira's eyes shifted as another of his command crew provided sitrep. "I suggest that you allow me to tow you as far as the next jump gate. Cmdr. Miller, providing he's at all competent, will appear and I will allow him to 'rescue' you and your crew." Akira looked away once again. "Yes, I understand. Thirty seconds." Akira paused to glare at Minako. She could be a valuable weapon with the right training, he thought. "Cmdr. Minako, recall the offer made to you by one Cmdr. Smith while you were on Orion. Nothing is what it seems. Follow of your own accord, or prepare to be tractored. Miller is fifteen seconds from the jump gate. You are of value to Rattler, and," more importantly, he thought, "me either way." Communications were severed. "Tactical, audible count down, please." "Aye, sir. On my mark, 15 seconds to GCV-Sark. Mark, mark, mark, twelve, eleven, ten..." Akira rapped his fingers in anticipation. If only she'd choose to come out from the dark. "...nine, eight..." "Raven Flight group, standby. Cloak as ordered." Akira waited. [/rp] Aaahh, I remember what happened the last time I was escorting a GCV vessel. Where's Chavik and the Gammulans? ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. bleh, get the patches. I used a 6x86 pr150+ to play this game for a long time. I had NO unusual problems. Other than low framrates due to hardware the game was as stable as any other. As for normal computing, my Cyrix machine was rock steady and a very quick machine. It would run slow on processor intensive apps like 3DSMax, but heck, my p3 does that too Good luck, Cmdr.

quote:If the the Presidents and Prime Ministers of each country are also on board this ship is the Captain still in charge? In answer, on military craft (in general) the Aircraft Commander(AC) (whatever the rank and usually the pilot) is ALWAYS in charge regardless of rank while the craft is airborne. Once on the ground, the highest ranking officer is in charge. Politicians are usually only granted as much authority as the AC wishes to allow. Your ship's captain would be given his orders prior to launch. Disobeying those orders would constitute a severe violation and, in the instance of your story, most likely have a penalty of death. That's not to say the captain couldn't be convinced by a politician. In the end the Captain is responsible for the safety of the ship, crew, and passengers. If he/she were to make a decision contrary to orders but based on circumstances beyond the scope of orders, the court martial would not find the captain in fault... unless you wrote otherwise. Captains are only human and in order to be punished must be caught As for sheilds... man, that's one HUGE power drain. These crystals that provide this enormous powersupply would most likely have given off some reading. Being that Mars is so close, it's unlikely that the reader would believe that we did not detect this powersupply with our current equipment.

Sorry, Mike, I wasn't that clear with point 1. Yes, in a vacuum, there is no friction. In space, though, Stone would still be dealing with laws of inertia, etc. Moving that thing in any direction other than forward would cause some serious stress on the ship. If you want to talk theory from other space bound craft fo the future, I draw your attention to StarTrek where structural integrity is controlled by dampening fields and not the design of the structure... ------------------ Flt. Stone, that is one large ship. Here are your weaknesses: 1. She's big. Easy target from affar. Easy to pick up on radar. Easy to track. Slow moving. And that 3d/s maneuverabillity? With a ship that large, what makes you think it can move that fast? Her mass alone will slow her down. 2. She's got so many turrets that you'd better have a small star as her power source. Even then, you'd never last long with all guns blazing. You'd have to cary more than 3/4 her weight in fuel. So, in order to fight, you'd have to give up something: sheilds, speed, manueverabillity..etc. That's the funny thing about life, everything is balanced. When you make one thing too grand something must give to compensate. 3. Your long range guns are on turrets on towers... easy to pick off. Just blow the towers (a la Star Wars Death Star). 4. Your ship has too many short range weapons. They'd most likely drain your power before doing any real damage. Additionally, you'd have to have 500,000 people opperating the guns or a computer handling 500,000 weapons. Tall order. Hard to believe you'd be able to coordinate that either way. 5. Your use of nuclear weapons will more than likely do more damage to you than your enemy. 6. Missiles are EASY to evade. There thousands of ways to fool those things and even if you can't, you can always outfly them and lead them back to your hull. Boom, there goes your ship. 7. Sheilding something that big would again require a vast amount of energy. Where would you get that kind of power source? 8. Titanium sucks. You'd have to invent something with the structural strength to withstand hi g acceleration of the mass of a small moon. 9. You have so many docking bays. How do you plan on watching them all the time. It would be very easy to just sneak on board and blend in with the crew or the citizens. Boom, there goes your power supply, nukes, flight controls, engineering, computer systems... you get the idea. In short, you need to rethink this thing and consider some balancing. Not very many people these days simply accept that kind of technological marvel. It's balancing, or you're going to need some hella-story to make that kind of ship believable Good luck ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. Akira Spectre ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series

thanatos, like i said before: look into running a dual 56k modem setup. If you're ISDN is getting about 10-15KB throughput, you should be OK. Thanks Gordan for that insightful post. Please allow me to make a couple of points: If Derek Smart claims to have the Copyright on "Galactic Command" or "GALCOM" (a term you also use), then I'm sure he has the Copyright. For instance, all sights referencing BC3000:AD material are required to include copyright info on the same site: quote:┬®Battlecruiser 3000AD, Battlecruiser 3020AD, Galactic Command, GALCOM, Xtreme Carnage, characters in the game are the copyright property of 3000AD, Inc. All rights reserved Now, add that to the fact that there is not, nor has there EVER been, a GALCOM or Galactic Command referenced or existing in the Star Trek universe. That means you had to find that term somewhere. Combine that with Hamblin's admittance to the site's creator KNOWING that the term came from this GAME/SITE, it is clear that ANDY should at least have gotten permission before STEALING the term. Youth does not mean you have permission to do whatever you whant with other's ideas. I strongly suggest that ANDY use a little imagination and come up with a new idea for your fleet. As I'm sure you'll find (providing you don't make changes) Derek Smart is VERY protective of his product. Perhaps next time you or your friends will atempt to do the right thing and ASK FOR PERMISSION before using something that is not yours to use. If you think that you have the right to use copyrighted material, I suggest you start a X-files site, or use beeny-babies as your group's name. You will soon find letters from attournies in your mailbox; and, more likely than not, your ISP will terminate your account. Again, I for one appreciate your comments. They reassure me that the future of this country will be controlled by Socialist Democrats intent on making everything free to everyone AAAAHHHH, the future is SO Bright, i've just gotta wear shades!
