  1. "Guns do not kill people, people kill people." Period. Nothing is simpler than that. Lets sue violent rap artists, other various musicians that portray violence, loud music can not be healthy, sounds violent, sue whoever is playing music loud, oh, and books and art that portray violence too while we are at it, lets get rid of martial arts and sue whoever practices it, thats violent, people can get hurt. Yeah, because the exchange of money for human life will solve everything . Enjoy your $100 million dollars if you win, sure proved alot . Not like its going to stop developers and its sure not going to stop people from killing people. I am not too sure about the justice system... seems to be lost in bundles of money now. People make their own decisions, whether it be how can I help someone, or how can I kill someone, you choose. The game does not take control of you, get the gun out, and shoot your neighbor. Stop wasting everyones time playing the blame game and get a meaningful life.
  2. Awesome movie... I just saw it a second time last night and the whole thing clicks. Not an over the top action Vampire vs Werewolf thing... great storyline. The number of action scenes were just right and well done. I felt weird the first time I saw it probably because I was not expecting a plot and storyline Terrific movie. See it twice if it does not sink in. 10/10
  3. They are either starving for things to stuff in the 25 list or just plain idiotic. Morrowind and Starfleet Command do not belong on that list either. Its better to just ignore Gamespy for the most part or read over reviews of games you like, or looking forward to, with skepticism.
  4. Quoted from the link... quote: Replicating that environment in a lab isn't easy, but that hasn't kept dreamers from trying. Since the mid-19th century, dozens of these modern alchemists have been injured in accidents and explosions while attempting to manufacture diamonds. Big understatement here. There was a great Nova special about creating diamonds in machines in a short time. The creation of diamonds has come a long way since the obvious ugly fakes first rolled out. There are a still a couple counter-measures towards 'fakes' that the most dedicated sellers could use that tell the age of the diamond, which is something these people have yet to counter act in diamond creating. Some companies are also creating insignia within the diamond so they know its real. Kind of like trying to make counter fiting money impossible eh? The big question is if consumers will give a care if its manufactured or from the earth over time. Do I smell some governmental standards and laws abrewen? Another law to be thrown into jail for? Well, thats just a whole other can of worms I am opening up there... hehe If these manufactured diamonds have the same heat conducting properties as the earth forged ones, then this will certainly usher a new era in computing and micro-chip driven technologies...
  5. Which setup (assuming commander career) has the most AI enemies in the beginning of the game for a ROAM assignment? I am thinking Gammulan/Mercenary is up there, but I want to know the MOST hated if there is one.
  6. Look around... many cards actually have the pixel and vertex shader versions on them. I found a nicely priced GeForce (5000 something, not sure sorry) with 128MB and version 2.0 pixel and 2.0 vertex shaders compatibility for about $120 US. I almost got it right then, but BCG is not out yet and thats the first thing I will need a shader system for The actual technology and graphical development properties of pixel shader and vertex shaders are pretty cool though... definetly next generation stuff here. You can read about it on web sites and get alot better explanations of what they do. In short, it makes objects have more detail and not look as "flat" and more fluent. Up to this point, when you look at detail on some ship or detail on a character, its either flat but colored to make it look not flat, or its detailed in with bumps through lots of time by the designers and adding more polygons to be processed. A turret might be added on or maybe something sticking out, but for the most part, things that could be very detailed are kept flat so it does not kill the performance of the game and does not use alot of time on the developers part. Cue shaders... Here is another short blip using slightly more detailed words http://www.directx.com/shader/ Just thought I would add some video info to this video issue thread
  7. Yep, its the supply station. ALL supply stations are for the treatment and rearming of Marines. Orbital supply stations are obviously for SF Marines. If you are in FP mode you can use them... much the same way you use a DJP. If there is a supply station, you can use it, regardless if its hostile or not. I think Orbital supply stations are invulnerable, but when you use an OTS missle on a MBase, they disappear (along with the rest of the base LOL) otherwise, they are invulnerable as well. As for ODSs, I am not sure. I always destroy the hostile ones and have not been replaced so I think if they are hostile, they will die hostile If you have not read the manual yet in its entirety, it will help a TON. So, as they say, RTFM
  8. If you did not already know, here is a way to shed even more time off this wonderful plan. When you are heading back to a station to trade, select the supply station rather than the starstation itself for HJ. This will bring you at a range of about 1 from the starstation rather than 70 further reducing the time needed
  9. quote: Never, there is no such thing as too much money. If you think you have too much money load up on OTS's and use them then you will be poor again and need more money its a vicious cycle. Exactly! OTS weapons are great fun but expensive. If there are hostile mbases left, then you have not used enough OTS weapons
  10. Sweet, thanks for writing a report Soviet! I was having the same problem which I stated in the other post and the only thing I could think of is was it being WinXP Pro. This is a problem and I knew it is because I DO take care of my computer and do what the troubleshooting files say. Nothing has worked except for what I did. One more question, but I think this is a Radeon 7500 specific video driver issue... do planets flicker for you at all Soviet (before or after patching)?
  11. Aye, check off those and a couple more important ones I am sure you would have listed (avoid installing unnessary programs, have only system required processes and BCMG running and nothing else, make sure everything is supported by BCMG etc). My OS is WinXP Professional Edition if that means anything different from Home Edition.
  12. quote: Which is exactly why you shouldn't have done this to begin with. The patch expects the install path to be in the default install folder. This is exactly the issue... Delmrr and I apparently have the same problem and that is when I install the game to the folder it defaults to, the patch does not replace any of the files... When I apply the patch inside the default install folder with a clean installation (C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Gold) and do EXACTLY what the troubleshooting faq says, the patch does nothing but make files called killfile.exe and BCServerConfig.exe. There is NO change to the vcf text, the bcm faq exists but no bcmgfaq file and the exe files are unchanged in size, the readme.rtf straight off the patch reads the old readme (no v1.00.01 (5-30-03) anywhere in the text), the game still reads v1.00.40 and the commander career can not get the "illegal items" menu in tradcom at stations which is a feature that is changed in v1.00.01 quote: The commander career now has access to the illegal items list in Tradcom The ONLY way I have gotten the patch to apply at all is by that method and I have tried literally everything off the troubleshooting faq and forum... as I am sure delmrr has.
  13. delmrr? Is he still around? Anyways, I had this exact same problem and the ONLY way I could resolve it is in, what I am almost positive, a completely unsupported way... so to be forewarned, this worked for me and this is definetly not an offical fix for this issue. 1. Completely uninstall BCMG and delete all the folders related to it... I went so far as to hunt down registery files but I do not think you need to go quite that far. 2. Install BCMG in a DIFFERENT folder than C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Gold C:Program FilesBCMG is where I chose to install it 3. Copy the patch into the clean install folder (C:Program FilesBCMG) and run it 4. Change the destination folder to C:Program FilesBCMG 5. Finish the install and notice that the readme has "v1.00.01 (05-30-03)" right below the title. This means things are going as planned. 6. Notice that NOTHING has changed in C:Program FilesBCMG!!!!! The patch has created a folder C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Gold and has put all of its files in there! 7. Copy everything from the folder the patch created EXCEPT BCSETUP.INI 8. Paste all of them in the correct game directory (C:Program FilesBCMG) Note that the BCSETUP.INI that you did not copy has none of the necessary code in it and is targeting the wrong directory and if you copy that over, you will need to reinstall if you did not backup the original BCSETUP.INI. For completness, you should notice in your docs directory a new bcmgvcf.html file... read that. It should give info about 1.00.01 dated 5.03.03 rather than 1.00.40 and you should be set. You can open the BCSETUP.INI file and change the version to 1.00.01 because thats what you are using now If this does not solve it, private message me please.
  14. You ARE crazy... I think I will stick to my tactic. I like my ship in one piece and functioning.
  15. Back to the destroying a star station... I wanted to elaborate on Spindoktor's flawless plan but for capturing 1. start as a carrier and load up on Iridium and the necessary minerals 2. get to the system with the hostile station you want to take over and wait for your engine's HJ to recharge 3. when 100% hit cloak and HJ to the station 4. get the station down to about 500 armor/hull integrity left using strong guns (about 50% intensity), then switch to 10% slowly firing (pressing and not holding the return key to fire works best) 5. wait for the SOS (happens around 100 hull integrity) decloak and dock The biggest problem is if there are other ships around the station... they may destroy it or capture it themselves while you are doing the deed. Most of the time however, the station takes care of those who are not cloaked in quick order
  16. If you are going to look for a ships PTA sweet spot, have the PTA intensity set between 10%-50% and keep an eye on the charge level and tacscan display. When the charge level starts jumping around like mad, and you are on a low intensity, you know you have found a good spot to have your enemies. PTA effective ranges from your target is about 0-20km with 3-7km being the most efficient (what I have found anyways).
  17. Yes, keep jiving the ship around when you hear enemy fire and hitting the A/B in bursts... good hint. EMD is your friend as well... The sweet spot is very important though... when your enemy is not firing lasers at you, get him in that spot on your Tacscan display and watch his ship wither away... The Megaron, my favorite ship, has a PTA sweet spot slightly off the rear circle indicator on the inside of the Tacscan display and on the same plane as you are on (no vertical shift)... (---+---(---+---()---+---)---+---) @@@@@^^@@@@@^^ PTA sweet spots, put the enemy red dots on the Tacscan where these arrows point for the Megaron and keep your distance relatively close.
  18. I am led to believe that armor simply prolongs the life of your ship... ie, when I upgrade my Megaron to Titanium V (6250 armor) from Titanium II (2500), it takes that much more beating to destroy my ship so it in turn, slows down the rate of damage my systems take. But I do know what you are talking about. When I was tractoring a ship, I took less than a second's worth of damage from a ships PTA system, and I had all my systems damaged with Titanium V armor... but it was nothing critical so I lived As for helping you live, I can help you out there a bit. I have my EMD on almost ALL the time... it stops intruders when its 100% and makes missles less effective against you... but you can not launch yours. In combat, keep some speed (I usually hit 4 or 5), and keep ready on the afterburnerns. FIND YOUR SHIPS PTA SWEET SPOT! When you find it, get your enemies in that spot, fighters will drop like flies with 70% PTA intensity; use the Tacscan display to assist you. As for stations, I will give you a one word hint, cloak Try to capture them, much better rewards. Any other questions I would be glad to answer; throw me a private message. I know I look new, but I have been playing this game alot for the couple weeks I have had it and I have yet to die...
  19. Nope, no overclocking or anything of the sort. No other programs running or performance improving programs... I ended up reverting back to older Radeon 7500 drivers, off of the original cd, and then reinstalling BCMG clean and then patching to the latest version. It now runs without using -w2 or lowering the graphics accelerations; and NO flickering! hehehe, weird, and the newest drivers that caused the flickering were off of ATI's website and were suggested for stability of games pertaining to my card. Anyways, thanks for the help! Works great now
  20. LOL... yeah, thats what I am forced to do now. Or I get my AE in a fighter with a single turret firing graphic which does the trick real well. It would be a nice feature if the PTA system took care of them I think... Here is my report on that planet flickering thing. I ended up having to drop my acceleration two notches and having to put -w2 in the shortcuts command line. Any thing else failed this quick test I made... 1. Start a new game, terran, commander, Elite force pilot, Earth Galcom HQ any FC asset. 2. Pan your view to "to.Jupiter", set a HJ course and hit F4 for a rear view. 3. As you travel through hyperspace, Earth may or may not flicker as it becomes smaller and smaller... it used to for me but the real test is yet to come. Hit F1 and continue through the JP. 4. Once you travel through the "to.Jupiter" JP, pan your view so that you are facing Jupiter... at this point, all I saw were rings and no planet or moons 5. HJ to IO and keep watching Jupiter and IO They used to flicker until I got fairly close to IO, but dropping the accel two notches and setting -w2 in the target seems to have solved this.
  21. Okay, thanks for the heads up. I am going to try a few things for the flickering on that list and see what happens and get my system specs up on my sig... Any ideas on the PTA SF Marine thing? Will a ships PTA target and kill SF Marines in space? If so, what am I missing...?
  22. I may not have made this clear... I understand that when you are in hyperspace nothing is real, but as I start the HJ, I can see the planet from far away as a solid. After I jump, it begins to flicker. Even before I come out of hyperspace as I approach it will appear and disappear at times. As the HJ ends and I come to a distance of about 150, I can see the planet clearly and it does not disappear. Is this normal?
  23. I purchased BCMG less than a week ago and I must say, the scale and level of detail is amazing. Finally, a game that captures some realistic dimensions of space and planetary action and is very fun to play. Nice work. My first question was about the AI of SF Marines about them hardly engaging, but the manual revision said this would be overhauled in an upcoming patch. Good news to me The next two I did not find searching the forums suprisingly. 1. Flickering or Disappearing planets: When I approach planets from long distances, they flicker or disappear as I approach them through hyperspace until I am relatively close. I am assuming this is normal and done in the interests of computer performance and I was wondering if this will be changed later or in BCG perhaps. Maybe an option set for those with higher-end machines? 2. PTA system and SF Marines: Unless I am doing something wrong, my PTA system does not target and kill SF Marines no matter what I do. I was curious as to if you have considered making PTA systems able to target SF Marines. I would like to see this feature added but you are the boss here Thanks for the time and again, great game!
