[rp]Yeah. Enough Terran propaganda can make a Gam lazy after a while by that logic.[/rp] Sound off Jag, LD! We need some Stormcarriers on the MP servers. [rp] That's for not answering Zane's post by now. Next time it won't be a trout! [/rp] Now that was fun! But on a sincere note, what's new with the Gammulan Empire guys?

Hi Cartmanbeeps, that's a nice picture. According to the fleet database, there are three recognized player group levels. Alliance - Includes all players and NPCs (Non-Player Characters) of one Race/Caste combination. Fleet level - There are two different group types at this level: Fleet - Any military organization, who's existence is specifically and officially authorized by the Supreme Commander. The Earthcom and Insurgent castes are regarded as military entities within the Terran nation. Non-Fleet Organization - Like Fleets, Non-Fleet Organizations must be explicitly approved by the SC. The difference is they generally include other non-military castes. Group - A term that can refer to either a Fleet or Non-Fleet Organization. [*]Wing - A group of units within a specific Fleet or Organization. There are usually multiple Wings within a single Group. With the above information in mind, Cartmanbeeps, please read this thread: Sig's, what they are for Revisited (located in the Forum Community section, under the General Discussions category). Always get authorization before you start a Group. Second, your sig says that your allegiance lies with the Terran/Insurgent Alliance. However, I don't currently see you registered with any of the 4 established Insurgent fleets. On a positive note, Cartmanbeeps, I am happy to see that you have properly configured your system profile (of which the necessity is explained here). Good job!

[rp] 3:45 09/27/3019 Tarean/Alpha Canis GCV Shimmer (MK3 class Battlecruiser) Commander's Log: At 0017 hours, SC2 launched to the surface of Droia (Vega Eridani) to extract HAV1 after a successful trading mission. What the Commlink Computer failed to log was the retrieval of three special objects found deep under a dead volcano. SC2 completed the extraction without incident and the GCV Shimmer proceeded here to Tarean.... Commander Joel Erikson paused and looked up at Tactical Officer Sylvia Peterson. "What is it?" he asked. "The LV 125 jumpgate is about to flash...." The reply from the Lieutenant was uncertain. "Two enemy cruisers and one armed Hacker transport have entered the region." "Red alert. Halt and cloak the ship." "Cloaking system activated. It's too late Commander;" she looked up, "they've targeted us." 3:46 -------------------- 3:45 UCV Thorn (Zel/Hac Tarin MK1) "Incoming transmittion from the lead cruiser." "Let's see it." The display on the bridgeviewer changed from the newly spotted Terran carrier to the bridge of the UCV Redeye (Kan/Rai Starcruiser). Zelon Commander Tsurg wasn't the type to be pushed around. "Yes, yes; I know. We have completed the data transfer," he said. "Good," came the quiet but confident reply from the Kandorian Commander. After skimming another report she continued. "If this new virus of yours works to my satisfaction, you and your crew will be entitled to no less than one fourth of all inventory we recover from the Terran ship." Tsurg brought his left hand from behind his head and pointed at the bridgeviewer. "You will not be disappointed. End transmittion." 3:48 -------------------- 3:49 GCV Shimmer The UCV Redeye and the escorting Man/Cri Solnar completed their jumps. [Hostile launch detected.] the main computer calmly stated. Shifting his gaze for half a second from the bridgeviewer, Erikson pointed to Flight Officer Jack Eastman. "Range?" "Range: 8km to the Solnar; the others aren't far behind." His response was almost as calm as the computer. "How does that guy do it?" Joel whispered to himself. "Activate the EMD and shield. Don't touch the weapons or the cloak will be compromised." "EMD jammer activated; shield strength modified." Sylvia turned to the Commander. "Sir fighters are prepped and manned." "Not yet." Erikson said holding up his hand. "Jack, jump to the Sarien jumpgate. This isn't our territory and we haven't been fired upon yet." The position of the GCV Shimmer meant that such a hyperjump would take the craft directly through the Tarean planet. "Yes sir. Inputing navigational coordinates. Engaging hyperdrive profile." The Starion turned toward Tarean and leaped into the dazeling HJ bubble. "Commander, I don't understand it." The Nav Officer frowned. "The hyperdrive conduit is fluctuating three times more than usual." The bridge crew looked in horror at the viewscreen as the ship approached the planet at 78000km/s. 3:52 -------------------- 3:53 UCV Python (Syr/Pol Firestorm) Commander Senn entered the bridge from his ready room reviewing the Python's hourly inventory report. "Has the Galcom vessel engaged the hostiles?" "No, Sir" the Tactical Officer replied. "It attempted to exit the region but crash-landed on Tarean in a heavily wooded area! Nothing is left of it." "I don't believe it!" Senn moved quickly to his command chair. "Observe Tarean on the bridgeviewer and replay what you saw." A light breeze spread over the tree tops of the beautiful forest on the western hemisphere. Suddenly, 14km in the distance, a small hill erupted in three fireballs before revealing a new crater. Senn was dumbfounded. "Uh... Research Engineer, report." "Yes, sir. Probes 3 and 5 detected the transmittion of a virus from the hacker transport to the Terran vessel. It must have destabilized their hyperdrive interface, effectively, shutting it down in midflight." Senn's eyes widened with anger as he realized the Python was on patrol in the Alpha Canis starsystem for another week and a half. "De-cloak the ship! Attack the transport before it leaves the region. Launch all fighters with orders to terminate both cruisers. Surrender is no longer an option for any of them." 3:56 -------------------- 4:30 09/27/3019 Tarean/Alpha Canis Ter/Ins Alpha Prime (Type 2 Starstation) Tactical Operations Center The battle lasted 28 minutes. All three hostile craft were destroyed by the UCV Python, which then limped through the Sarien jumpgate with 889 armor units, 77% integrity, and two remaining fighers. Chief Executive Officer Roland continued to stare at the dedicated TacOps viewscreen long after the Syrion Firestorm left the region. He inhaled slightly. "... Vector our nearest asset to commence salvage operations. Let's find out what those Raiders were after." 4:33 [/rp] Shingen, I have sent you a PM about the info above. [rp] 12:26 04/17/3030 Earth/Sol (planet surface) Baltic Sea 91km off the coast of Poland After hundreds of years, the basic design of the Terran/Earthcom Naval Gunship remain largely unchanged. The this crew of two had been on station (in shifts) for two and a half weeks. Despite the inactivity, Marine Corporal Jacob Boyd rarely tired of the scenery of the European coastline. "Incoming transmittion from the ODS!" The other man nearly jumped out of his chair. "Really? Is it for us?" "No it's a broadcast, redirecting transmittion to our mothership." 12:27 -------------------- 12:28 Gulf of Alaska 209km east of Kodiak Island ECV Victoria (Naval Carrier) Commander Mark Wilson read the transmittion. "Recall all fighters; have them prepped and loaded with STS missiles." "Yes, Commander." Combat Officer Nick Forest replied. "Issuing appropriate RTB orders." Wilson reactivated the communicator at his command station on the bridge. "Message received and understood, Corporal Boyd. Send the following reply to one of the Garid super cruisers: The Victoria, Warsaw, Pitcairn, and Nimrod naval carriers are holding 64 space-capable fighters on standing by. Do you request assistance from Earthcom's Navy?" 12:30 [/rp] Looking good, guys. But we need someone from Galcom to RP the forces attacking Shingen.

OK. Sounds good. Chavik, ShoHashi, thank you both for your time and help.

I remember all four of those guys. The first forum admin and beta tester I remember seeing when I first found the forums in late '98 was Pan. Jon Ballinger started off GWII with his Prelude to the Dance thread. None of them have posted for many moons. Should I try to contact one of them directly for permission, or what should I do?

However, the term Starion hasn't been used on the forums since December of 2001. If this is because the BCMKIII now has either (1) a different class name, or (2) no class name, then I will modify what I have written (on my own machine) thus far. quote:Originally posted by Shingen: with a R.A.N.D.O.M. device in it's hold.Given that the R.A.N.D.O.M. device is indestructible in SinglePlayer, this attribute may have some carry-over into RolePlay. This would explain why the artifact survived such a crash as I will describe in my upcoming post. Once I secure permission to use one or more characters based on real Players, I will post about the crash plus the skirmish in the Mars region.

To add interest, I would like to use the character of an actual Insurgent player. Who do you recommend?
-
Who is the commanding officer at the Ter/Ins Alpha Prime Starstation (Tarean/Alpha Canis) in the RP galaxy? I would like permission to use his/her character in an upcoming post for The Death Merchants story.
-
Note: Some further discussion has taken place in Devil's Hand Raiders ┬╗ Raider RP. I now have some time to contribute to The Death Merchants story. Shingen, I'll start with an explanation of how the Starion crashed on Tarean (as indicated in the story's first post).

Good thinking, Tinjaw! That will fix the problem the SC mentioned above. I like this guy, Derek. So far, he has demonstrated a good level of competence. [ 07-22-2004, 03:49 AM: Message edited by: Quazar ]

Hey Tinjaw, welcome to the forums! The HTML version of the UC appendix comes on the CD in the Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML) format so that you can quickly and easily move from one section to another. One of the best ways to learn how to play Universal Combat is to first read the HTML documentation and then run the game and read from the manual and appendix at the same time. For example: this approach is particularly effective in learning keyboard commands. However, Tinjaw, you are indeed correct. The game does have a tendency to hang if forced from the foreground (such as when switching between the UC program and a web browser). To avoid this, it is best to have two computers in the same workspace: one running the game (maybe a desktop) and the other displaying the HTML manual/appendix (like a laptop). But, since this is often not feasible for people with only one machine, there is a version of the UC appendix in Post-script Display Format (PDF; as indicated here). You cannot currently download it from the UC downloads page. Let me check on this.... OK. I can't get it from my game registration page because it's probably not a restricted download (as are the UC patches). Tinjaw, here's what I'm going to do: I have the PDF appendix for UC on my hard-drive. I have sent you a Private Message on a different subject matter. Please reply and also include your e-mail address. I will then send you the zipped PDF as an attachment.

Version 2 is even better. Great job, Freyar!
-
Doesn't look too bad, Freyar. Much of this information will be logged automatically by the 3000ad-hosted MP servers for UCHTL. quote:Paragraph 4, "HOW IS MULTIPLAYER BEING IMPROVED UPON?" - UCHTL FAQ: Our official multiplayer servers can now be configured to store and retrieve player data. This means that using a username+password a player can re-join a server which contains their previous stats, including asset information if any. For example, the high end commander career no longer needs to start from scratch (with the ship upgrades) each time you join a server - as long as you were alive on the server the last time you logged off. No, this feature is not possible on servers hosted by the public because it requires an SQL backend which we don't intend to implement nor support. This means that manual entry of player statistics may not be necessary. However, until the release of UCHTL, we could make good use of your work. Under your plan, Freyar, would fleet members fill out a new flight sheet per MP session or add new statistics to previous results? Also, should the SC choose to use this template, to what extent would it be integrated/synchronized with the cooresponding fields in the Fleet DataBase?

Oops. Just realized this poll is for ISS members only. According to this from here: quote:Originally posted by Commander Jamont: let us vote then people. My vote is invalid. Please subtract my vote for choice three of both questions. Sorry for the inconvenience. But those are still killer graphics!

quote:Originally posted by Shingen: Has anyone else noticed that raiders in UC loose exp for killing transport in SP?Hmm. That's the first time I've seen this question. I don't know the answer. But, here is some information that might be helpful: Experience points? Experience Points About Experience Points.... All three threads are located in: Game Discussions ┬╗ Universal Combat [battlecruiser Generations] I hope this helps. Good question, Shingen.

I vote for the full fleet animation in both - the logos and the webpage headings. Great work, Ben!

How do I join a fleet?
Quazar replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
From this thread in the Prime Fleet forum: quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: You can't join a fleet unless you own UC.Before you join any fleet join the player community. Purchase your own copy of UC. At the top of the main board homepage, click on the link that says Read This NOW! and read it from top to bottom. Register for posting privileges on this official board (if you haven't already done so). Once registered to post here, login. Click on the my profile link located at the top of every forum page. Click on Review User Agreement and read that page from top to bottom. Return to the main board homepage and click on the link at the top that says Register Game! Fill in the required fields as directed and submitt your game registration. Read and follow all instructions and links in the thread: Do NOT post without a valid registration in your sig! (located in the News & Announcements forum). Warning: If you do not complete the above procedure to the letter, you will almost definitely get IP banned from the entire http://3000ad.com/ site by an Administrator of the board! Assuming you have successfully completed the above procedure, congratulations! You are now a part of the player community and ready to join a fleet. Edit: Dead link fixed. Gentlemen, it is unnecessary to publicly test your signature for personal reference only. Each time you edit your forum profile, the board says this after you click the Update Profile button: quote:Your profile has been updated. Any changes you have made are reflected below. If you wish to continue to edit your profile, please use the "Edit Profile" link below. In other words, your signature (with any and all permitted UBB Code you may be using) is formatted and displayed on that page for you - as other people will see it! Therefore, the only reason to test your signature in this thread should be to receive input or suggestions from others. This concerns me because there are now 460+ signature tests in this thread - many of which are for personal reference only. This eats up valuable disk space and bandwidth on Derek's servers. (Well OK, so does the The Rubbish Pit with its 48 pages of 1890 threads and 26673 posts! ) Anyway, I'm looking for input about my addition of a recruitment pitch. quote:Originally posted by DennyMala: BTW what you say about the sigs is true but I've seen that it's not updated on existing messages until you post again......That's interesting, DennyMala. The board always updates my previous posts with the new signature right after I modify my profile. I do understand what you mean, however. quote:Originally posted by DennyMala: personally I use to post the personal reference test and then delete it.Hmm. That might work also. Thanks for the idea! quote:Originally posted by Kenworthy: Is this ok?Looks pretty good to me, Kenworthy. Wow! Some administrator (probably with a ton of time and patience) sure cleaned up this thread pretty well. Thanks. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: you have the ability to edit your post btw. You should do that instead of having to do multiple posts. You can also delete your own posts (I think). In most cases users can edit or delete their own posts within 10 minutes of the original time stamp (as referenced here). Edit: Just combining posts [ 07-20-2004, 07:28 PM: Message edited by: Pugwash ]

In RP, you usually have only one primary character - the one listed in your signature or Fleet DB profile. You may use any number of secondary characters. However, DeSylva listed two primary characters in his signature. Would it be permissable for me to list three primary characters in my fleet DB profile? If so, then they would, for the most part, operate at separate points in the unofficial timeline (BC timeline (non rp) post #27). Plus, must they all use the same asset (e.g. the third character using a 70 year old ship)?
-
On second thought, between putting together the significantly changed EarthCOM Alliance Structure and working on a story of my own, I'm booked! Later on, I might be available to work (or, should I say, RolePlay) on your story. In the meantime, Shingen, I have sent you a PM outlining my concerns. Have fun, guys! SC, [rp]blow this Raider out of the sky![/rp]
-
Agreed, Shingen. Congratulations on your New Moderator status! PM me with your story-line and I'll see what I can do.

One thing that I forgot to mention above is how to join a fleet/group once you have chosen the one to which you can best relate. Go to the Fleet DateBase. You are given the choice to either: Login to an existing fleet profile at the current screen, or follow the Register link to create a new profile [*]When joining a fleet/group, do not mix incompatible attributes such as "Valkerie Insurgent, Orion Fleet"; the registration page itself explains everything else fairly well. [*]After you have submitted your registration, you must wait for approval or denial from the leader of your desired fleet or group. [*]If the fleet/group doesn't acknowledge receipt of your registration within two weeks, send a Private Message (PM) to either the leader or any designated recruitment officer. [*]If no one from that group responds to your request for another two weeks, then send a PM to Jaguar, Cmdr Chavik, or some other prominent forum member and explain the situation clearly. Ask one of these people for help before you bother the Supreme Cmdr. Hint: The best way to send someone a PM is to find one of that person's posts and click the button at the top that looks like this Again, take your time, choose wisely and have fun!
