  1. I think what I most respect about the Battlecruiser Series is that it was never "dumbed-down" for the instant gratification crowd that seems to be so predominant these days. Movies, video games, television. Its been painful to watch the thought requirement get amputated from these entertainment forms and replaced with graphical fluff. My idea of a good time has always been a complex game with a huge manual. I'm a flight-simmer from way back and have always derived at least as much pleasure from digging through the appendixes as playing the sim. What I found funny about the "lack-of-tutorials" rant is that when huge comprehesive flight sims are released, they are praised for their depth and authenticity, regardless of whether they are shipped with tutorials. When a BC title is released, on the other hand, the cries of outrage go up because it's so much more complicated than, say, Freelancer. And thank God it is. Freelancer for me provided every bit of the fun and mental challenge of, say, toenail clipping.
  2. LOL, fair enough. I think I'll go swab the deck now.
  3. Asset is in fact a Ter/Mil supercarrier: Firestorm. This was a case of operator (me) error. I failed to notice the small down arrow on the listing for deck three. Apologies. (And embarassment.) Olias
  4. My apologies on this one. I was doing it from memory from last night. I put this out there without the specific asset name because in this classification of asset there were only two selections, so I figured it was easy to narrow down. But as Bandus pointed out, I am either wrong on the race or the asset class, so consequently I might as well have posted "blah blah blah". I'm at work at the moment (slow day). When I get home I'll try to reproduce this and get the asset name. The only thing I can tell you with certainty is that the reactors were missing from the Logistix deck screens. I was very careful in checking that. Again, sorry about the vagueness, won't happen again. I was simply eager to get this out there to see if someone could confirm it.
  5. The reader reviews are almost always garbage anyway. More often than not, there will be a dozen reader reviews for a game prior to the game's release (or the release of any demo, movies, etc.) in which the "reviewers" will post a rating on their prediction of what the game will be like, or what the last game was like, or the particular shade of blue of the sky today. I'll give the one reviewer in this case credit though, he or she actually seems to have played the game before posting.
  6. Roam Scenario. Ter/Mil Commander Career. Super Carrier Asset. Type (Forgive me for this) The Green One. I started a new roam scenario, in the default start position near Earth and Galcom HQ. I set a waypoint on the planet surface just on the perimeter of a Ter/Rai city, made planetfall normally, and engaged the CALS system for landing. Well, the waypoint was on the side of a hill and the resulting landing damaged the CC. I hit ALT+E and went for a stroll around the city. The CC was parked down the side of a hill and the PTA system was firing on one of the buildings. Too cool. Anyway, I returned to the ship and set about assessing what damage was done in the landing. A solar panel was totally destroyed, and two other systems were damaged to about 50%. On the power allocation system, however, I found that the nuclear reactor was only putting out 23 units of power. I tried to liftoff with CALS, which had no effect. Using the F key, I could ascend to about 800 feet and then the ship would drop to the surface again. So I went to Logistix (Logistix system undamaged) to set up repairs on the nuclear reactor. I very slowly read through each entry at least three times on each deck, 1-4, and could find the nuclear or solar reactors nowhere. I should also note that condition of the ship was listed as green. In the next scenario that I started with a Battlecruiser Mk 3, I had no problem finding the reactors on the Logistix deck displays. What I haven't done yet is roll out another asset of the same type to see if the reactors were again missing, to see if it is specific to the um...green one.
  7. I have experienced the same thing in the situations you describe. Planetside during the long freezes, it also appears that the sound is looping. Additionally, I have experienced brief stutter in space, as well. I also suspect it is sound-related. It consistently stutters when a hostile appears in-system and my guess is it is related to the alert klaxon that announces the hostile's arrival. I am running UC with the sound accelaration and graphics acceleration tabs dropped one notch, per instructions. In options, I have the music turned off. All other options are set to their maximum or best quality, and the game is running fullscreen at 1024x768, which matches my desktop resolution. My system signature is up-to-date, with the exception of the CATALYST driver, which I upgraded to 4.1
  8. Okay, I picked up my copy last night. Thank you for the stance you have taken towards your customers regarding this. If it makes you feel any better, I did buy two different copies of BCM. Once when it first came out and once relatively recently when I wanted to take another romp through the ol' galaxy and could find the book but not the disk. So I guess we're square. Looks great so far! Best of luck to you on your proceedings with Dreamcatcher, I know what it's like when the lawyers get involved. Olias
  9. This is my first post. Hello Community. I have 20 bucks in my pocket, the GameStop website says the store 3 miles from here has '1-3 copies' and I am dying to get my hands on this game, since I have been a huge fan of the Battlecruiser series since Battlecruiser 3000AD first hit stores. I won't be going to GameStop today. The original MSRP for this game, I hear, was $39.99. I would have happily paid fifty. Or sixty. I'm not telling others what they should or shouldn't do. I'm saying what I will do. I've been an avid PC Gamer for more years than I care to mention, and we as a community have a problem. Almost without exception, when a game is pushed out unfinished, unpolished or unplayable with the "release it now, patch it later" mindset, look no farther than the publisher. It's like paying for a bottle of fine wine and instead receiving a box full of grapes and a note reading, "Just wait - this will ferment". Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a sermon. What I do want to say is that Mr. Smart, you have my sympathies and support, as you always have. As a previous poster mentioned, if there is a way to contribute a donation, I'd happily send the difference your way. Failing that, I think I'll just wait. Olias
