  1. X2 is overhyped trash. I have the game. I played it for a few weeks. I sat there amazed by the beauty of it and then like many beautiful things in this world I saw that it lacked ANY depth. Gameplay becomes tedious at best and boring at worst.

X2 trumps UC in the graphics department but little else. I would like to see a Privateer style comms system in UC (space is very quiet) but X2 gives you these viewscreens with MUPPET looking aliens and humans... it's almost embarrassing. Who did these models, Sid and Marty Kroft? (oh god I'm old)

Anyway, when I sit down and play UC, I feel like I am controlling a large vessel. When I punch up tac-ops and take a look at the sector I have just entered I feel like I am in Star Trek II when Kirk is reviewing the positions of the Reliant and Enterprise. Plotting waypoints, using more than one keystroke to get the job done... it all ads to immersion for me.

Understand this is my opinion and opinions are like ... well you know... everybody has one. If I want to play an arcade game X2 hands down wins. If I want to play a simulator it's UC all the way.

  2. Jaguar it must be tough to breathe with your head so deep in the sand. This is just more "throw it out there and keep the masses scared" BS. Just like the turnover of Iraq is just a load of BS. Nice that Karzai worked with Unocal and the CIA and now this guy in Iraq is a puppet of British and American Intelligence (and I use the term loosely) agencies. I think the radiowaves are frying your ability to reason. If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck... it's a duck.

Do the research Jag, see who we put into power in Afghanistan. How much of the country that puppet government controls. The deal for the pipeline that was derailed by the Taliban but mysteriously got pushed through by Karzai. We didn't avenge 3000 dead. We didn't get Osama. We didn't liberate Afghanistan (the Warlords control it if you hadn't heard) but we did manage to get that deal done for the pipeline. Do I need to give you the list of companies that are benefiting from that deal?

Every holiday we get these terror briefings from Bush. It's like the secret toy surprise. Meanwhile for all of the "protection" provided by Bush the "protector" our borders are like swiss cheese and immigration is a joke. Just keep em dumb and scared. I don't think that's cutting it anymore though... applause after Fahrenheit 9/11 HAHAH... I haven't ever seen people APPLAUD. My mistake is 5 months to being fixed. I can't believe I voted for this idiot.

Hey Jag... don't forget your helmet and flak jacket when you go for that cold one *SNICKERS* BUAHAHAHAH!

  4. Thank you sir. Do you have room for one salty, not so by the book Commander in your wing? I'm sure Shingen will have his fair share of raiders to see him through. I should like to work with you Ockham and the Subversion Wing. The name sounds right up my alley. Afterall, I'm not about the fame and glory, I'm all about the kill and the cash.

    Hail me.

  5. Yes, you knew it had to happen. Somebody would have to finally comment on this movie.

First of all there is always the debate where it concerns a Michael Moore movie as to whether one should consider it a Documentary or not. I think that because Moore manages to entertain while making these films he is somehow taken less seriously. Also because Moore has taken liberties with material he brings scrutiny on himself (ofcourse most of these detractors also watch Fox News without any problem *snickers*).

There are parts in this film that will make people laugh, will make people cry and will make people angry. I don't want to get political, (afterall this is just a movie thread) but Moore does stir you and does make you think. There is a lot in the movie that cannot be simply explained away as "revenge", "propaganda", etc. Some of this stuff you just can't make up. Some of this stuff has been covered before but perhaps not placed in the context of the whole picture so that you see clearly that there is a pattern of behavior within government that surely makes one arch an eyebrow.

Republicans will say that they are boycotting this movie because it is propaganda. I find that humorous. I went in with a popcorn and a coke and I enjoyed this movie like I would any other. It was not made to sway people that are firmly entrenched in one camp or the other politically. It was made to illustrate for those that maybe haven't been paying attention, some of the absurdity that is epidemic within government. If you hated the Iraq war before you went in, you'll still hate it coming out. Likewise if you loved Bush going in, you'll likely love Bush coming out. I will never understand how that could be possible seeing the evidence laid before you (not just in this film but in the day to day workings of the government) but that's not for me to judge.

For those of you that think this was a campaign ad, John Kerry is not mentioned once. This is all about Bush and what has gone on for the past three or so years.

SPOILER - one thing I never knew and found to be a startling revelation surrounds Fox News calling Florida for Bush and who was on duty there at Fox that night. It makes you go HMMMMMMM. Also, I was also quite interested to hear about Mr. Bath and his relations with Bush and Bush's National Guard service. If you go see this let me know what you think about that.

Well shot. Great entertainment value for a documentary. It was stirring and thought provoking. My wife and I, life long Republicans have not shut up about it since we left the theater. Oh, one more strange thing about this movie. I saw it with a pretty mixed crowd, seniors, middle aged folks, twenty somethings and even teens (it was a packed house with a line waiting to get in for the next show). When the movie ended for the first time ever (I'm 34 I've seen a lot of movies) people APPLAUDED. It was very foreign to me to see such a response.

"Now watch this drive," *nods, smirks and walks to the tee*

  6. Of course Powell said that, you bought that? Well what did I think you'd do right? You bought off on the rationale yet I have provided you proof that oil is the interest and not the "terrorists". We left Afghanistan when? We left Afghanistan why? Did we accomplish the mission? What was the mission? Do you even remember? Look... I know when I'm dealing with a Kool Aid swilling robot... so I'm done with this. Hopefully you are not of age to vote and if you are that you are in a state where it doesn't matter. Oh NY... SWEEEEEET.

Amen, last I checked Derek Smart was the block captain here... move it along Myrtle... be bitty busy body in your own sector. *snickers* Now, if you want to volunteer as a target we'll be happy to listen.

  9. Derek nobody said you don't do more than the $19.99 price would have warranted. I don't think anyone is non-appreciative of your efforts. I think I made that plain on numerous occassions the most recent time being today. You have stood by the product and then some.

Gentlemen I think you have more in common from a positive point of view than you do from the negative. For what it is worth I see Shingen approaching his work with the new TDH clan much the same as you approach yours SC. He just wants the multiplayer to be crisp, that's all. Meanwhile, I know having played multiplayer for several months now that it gets BETTER AND BETTER as you work out the patches.

Let's not lose sight of the commonality by engaging in a pissing contest. For my part I think Derek that you have to learn something; this is YOUR game... that doesn't mean however that any of us is incapable of loving it to a similar degree as you do. WHen we spend time in your universe, make an effort to be a part of it, etc. there is a certain amount of our own blood, sweat and spirit that goes into those endeavors. I know that you have the lion's share of effort, developed the concept, dealt with the scumbag developers, put your money and reputation on the line and did your best. While nobody will make commitments to such a degree as that, commitments are indeed made. Just take that into consideration when you are backhanding us *lol*.

  10. Is there any way that you can add a netcode feature that allows MP ships to spawn with medium grade upgrades/AI across the board? I know that wouldn't help much as far as the, "I play on this server and I am macked out... so die!" factor... but it might make for more competetive action.

Frankly, I understand both sides. Would it be a nice feature... sure. Is it practical for a $20 game, maybe not. Mostly though, having played Freelancer I remember all of the pathetic campers in their souped up ships that never gave new players a chance. I don't want that for this game.

  11. Uhrmmm in his defense he just had a really lousy MP game heheh. Can the servers all be reset for the weekend? I know that Server 3 was running like a dog when we were on there SC.

As an aside, I have access to a server (my Ultima Online server, *shields himself from the boos and hisses*). Anyway it is an AMD Duron 1.3/512 ... nice big pipe (I host 100 plus players in Ultima without lag).

Anyway, SC will this game run on that rig? I'm not interested in having my old lady do this for me if it's not going to work. Yeah, yeah... snicker, snicker (ya bastards) but in this family the missus is the IT professional. Now if you need a mortgage though... I'm your man heheh.

Anyway Derek, I'd appreciate your thoughts on whether or not you think your game will run on that (I would not allow for more than 8 players or so with the NPCs being active).

  12. Get the All Seeing Eye. It shows all four of the servers and who is on. I just hit refresh, run down the list... ohhhh there's Marvin, double click the server... and poof the game launches heheh. I never wonder who is on... where... ever

  13. Doh... you might want to relocate my post to that thread. The thread I am referring to is here. Sorry.

As for the updates that have been made to the game, you know you thoroughly made me eat my hat with what you have done since the release. The fact is though that I don't think you ever really stop "tweaking" any of your current games. BCM/G has taken a back seat to UC but only after you had invested much time tweaking it as well. Then when UC came out, you made that the priority. You might cut back on the updates for UC but somehow I have a feeling we'll still be seeing them as the need arises. It's not wishful thinking on my part, it's your nature.

Anyway to get back on topic... HEAVY CRUISERS RULE!

    *snickers*

    Nuff said.

  14. You surely succeeded. That is exactly the feel that the Heavy Cruisers convey. They're not carriers they are assault vessels. I don't have my fighters finishing the work prior to my getting to the scene, now my killing is personal.

Also, I might add (sorry if this throws the topic off for a moment)... the work you have done in the patches... superb. I had one hell of a multiplayer game last night. I recounted the events in a Fun Stuff thread... the things you can do with this game! *snickers*

  15. Anything official that I need to worry about tonight? I know we were talking about meeting up on Friday nights. I have a SCREAMING sorethroat, (prelude to a cold no doubt) and might be hyped up on cold medication and my trademark Jameson *snickers*.

Just want to make sure I don't miss our first meet and greet.

    Peace

  16. I used to be one of these guys flying around in a BC MK3 or a Megaron... they are after all the juggernauts of the galaxy.

However, now that I have joined The Devil's Hand guild and chosen to be a raider, I have been forced to utilize the smaller and less equipped Heavy Cruisers.

I love the Sunflash and have become very comfortable with it. Yesterday I learned mighty quickly that she can deliver a punch but she can't take one like the big boys. I did three or four head on attacks with much larger ships and delivered devestation however did not LIVE through the encounters. The Sunflash is a peck away vehicle, meaning you hit and you run.

UC doesn't have a difficulty level until you jump out of the big boys and try the smaller ships. You quickly learn that there are difficulty levels in this game based on the ship you command. Having to utilize shuttles in inventive and yet CONSERVATIVE (you only have two) ways on a cruiser is important. With no fighter compliment you have nothing to run offensive interference.

I won't ever go back to the big boys... I am having WAY too much fun learning to survive in my Heavy Cruiser and it has made the game so much more skill oriented. I don't just cloak and launch fighters. I don't have a cloak anymore. Now, I have to time jumps and exploit enemy PTA arches.

    Man I love this game!

Wrongo, show me the evidence for that. The only war plan that was leaked was from Chalabi to the Iranians.

SHOW YOU THE EVIDENCE? Were you under a rock when Bob Woodward released his book? Did you miss that idiot Bandar on Larry King talking about it when Woodward was on? I guess you did. Well look it up. Prince Bandar saw the Iraq warplan BEFORE Colin Powell did. That's a fact.

I am neither liberal, nor left-wing. This is just a travesty of government that I will NOT stand for. I suppose when you say you are of a different opinion you have to abandon all rational thought. I suppose if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck... it might still be a chicken for you. OK.

As for supporting the troops of this GREAT nation... I support them 100%. I do not question the motives of men and women sent to a place to fight. Their responsibility is NOT to question. However, we that are here; we that are civilians and citizens of this nation ARE supposed to question. It is the responsibility of every single American to question their government, it is OUR DUTY just as it is the duty of those in the military to take up arms when ordered to. Please make the proper distinction... what I do not support is Bush or the mission in Iraq. Afghanistan I supported and STILL support... that was just... Iraq is not.

  19. I already stated what the problems are with this Administration. The President is a LIAR. You might not recognize BS when it's on your lip... but I do. You may not recognize the fact that Karzai is an oil consultant for Unocal and a CIA operative but I do. You might not know that there was a deal between Unocal and Afghanistan for a pipeline that went sour... but I do. You might not know that the PNAC declared that America in order to flex it's might needed a new Pearl Harbor, BUT I DO.

I am a Republican but I am not a NEOCON. What's a neocon? Look it up.

We needed to get oil from Turkmenistan to the ocean, we needed a pipeline between there and Pakistan... aka Afghanistan. We wined and we dined the Taliban... they said no deal. Osama blows up the WTC. We have Karzai a Unocal man in power, the American attache dealing with Afghanistan is a Unocal operative... and yet, HELL THERE IS NO STINK in the air for you?

We attacked Iraq, the number two oil reserve in the world. We wanted to attack Iraq EVEN AFTER WE KNEW OSAMA WAS IN AFGHANISTAN. Rumsfeld said, "there are more targets in Iraq even if he is in Afghanistan. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? Still no stink?

Saudi Arabia is in bed with Bush. The mass of the hijackers were Saudi. Saudi money is exported to madrasses (sp?) IN OTHER COUNTRIES where SAUDIS teach terrorism so that the king and his ridiculous regime don't become targets of their own people... IS THAT FIGHTING TERRORISM? Yet G.W. placates the Saudis. He even went so far as to show the Saudis the Iraqi warplan when it was marked NONFOR (meaning NO FOREIGNERS). Say what!?

You cannot be helped. As for calling you a kid... sorry, let me just say naive then. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were young rather than just ignorant. Maybe you should open BOTH of your eyes. What are you afraid you might see something that shatters your beliefs? Believe me, my beliefs were shattered... the very beliefs I hold sacred where it concerns conservatism and the Republican party have been dessimated by this guy. I'm just happy I woke the hell up. FOX NEWS ain't gonna tell you what you need to know to be informed. K?

I've wasted enough time on you. If you can't be bothered to open your eyes then YOU GO FIGHT this war... and send the kids that just wanted an education through the GI bill home. K? After all you believe in this crap, right?

    Cheers.

  21. Takvah stares straight, looking across the table at Shingen. Trails of smoke spiral in long strands from his cigarette as he reaches for a bottle of Jameson Irish Whisky that sits between them on the table.

"Join me in a shot my friend?" he asks.

Shingen nods affirmation as the large paw of Takvah tips the bottle and pours out two large shots into glasses on the table.

Takvah puts the cigarette to his mouth and breathes deep. He is obviously shaken and elated at the same time. He puts the cigarette into an ashtray and exhaling pushes one of the shot glasses toward Shingen.

"What I'm going to tell you will hardly seem real," he says with a smile. His hand betrays his nerves as he grabs up his shot glass between his thumb and his index finger.

Shingen moves in closer to the table and stares at his friend. "Just start from the beginning," he replies tipping his head back and drinking of the shot that Takvah has offered.

Takvah shrugs and does the same tipping his head back and downing the alcohol. He wipes at his mouth with the back of his hand and smirks, his lips forming a sly smile. "So I'm out on recon. Not looking for any trouble," he says pausing.

"Of course not," Shingen says with a smile of his own.

"That's when the comms speakers on the bridge start to erupt with chatter between several Terran military vessels. They're on a reconnaisance mission of their own, one of their number being a dyed in the wool recruit," Takvah recounts.

Shingen shakes off the burn of the liquor that the two have been sharing, his eyes becoming more intense. "Terran military?" he asks rhetorically.

"You heard me," Takvah answers. "Can I go on?"

    "By all means."

"Well anyway, I see some profit in this little reconnaisance mission. An opportunity for a businessman. They're running this kid through maneuvers allowing him command of an Aestrom," Takvah continues.

    "An Aestrom, you say."

Takvah's eyes widen as he becomes more emphatic. "An Aestrom, my friend."

    "Go on."

"So I order my navigation officer to set a course for Procon. It might be suicide but the lure of the kill and some respect from Terran Military is well worth the chance I'm about to take."

Shingen rolls his eyes and pours himself another shot.

"I know, it's a crazy notion. I never clued them in to my affiliations with the guild, this was strictly a solo operation."

    Shingen looks incredulous.

"I am not about to sacrifice the brotherhood for one crazy notion set to action, Shingen."

The older raider nods in mock affirmation, "The brotherhood before all else, I know your credo Takvah."

    Takvah nods back, "The brotherhood!"

"Now that we've established this and your ship is enroute to what would seem certain doom; what do you do?"

"Well I enter the Procon system of course by way of Castrin. On entering I play it non-chalant observing the situation. After all, I'm just a simple businessman trading legal goods," Takvah says with his trademark smile. "Their new recruit is half way across the system and the others are trying to convey pointers and the like while they keep warm near the system's station. I engage hyperdrive and I arm the missile systems."

Shingen pours the two another wee dram of the Irish whiskey. "So you're not drawing any attention to this point?" he asks pushing Takvah's glass back to the salty soul.

Takvah holds the glass between his hands and leans in over the table. "I didn't quite say that now did I?"

With a smile, Shingen brings his glass to his lips, "I was wondering when this story might turn a bit more unfriendly."

Takvah nods and sips from his glass. "You ever heard of a ship called the Asimov?"

    "The Asimov!"

"Aye, that be what I said, my friend. Seems this recruit is getting some choice schooling at the hands of one of Galcom's finest."

Shingen waves a hand in protest, parting the smoke between the men that lingers like a veil. "Please tell me you killed that bastard!"

"Would that I could. As I came out of hyperspace my missiles fired on the recruit's vessel. I lit that Aestrom up like a torch. Unfortunately the Asimov was as sneaky as a snake. She came about and was on me in an instant."

"You don't say," Shingen replied seeming annoyed. "So this is the great story you have to tell me. The Asimov came in and saved the day; the end?"

Angry, Takvah wipes the table clear with his right arm the glasses and the bottle of whiskey crashing to the bar floor. "I have asked you nicely, twice now, if I might tell this story!"

"So, you did destroy the Asimov!" Shingen said gleefully.

"No. I didn't destroy the Asimov. He moved in and layed into me with a well placed volley. Licking some serious wounds, I made for the jump gate back to Castrin," without waiting for Shingen's disappointed response Takvah continues, "I however noticed that the Aestrom had activated its distress beacons."

    Shingen smiled.

"While the Asimov pursued me, I launched a shuttle to tow the disabled Aestrom. I then ran for all that my ship was worth. The bridge was smashed, many systems were dessimated. I managed to hop through the Castrin gate and the Asimov gave up pursuit. I suppose that the comms systems of the Aestrom were non functional because she never called for assistance. Either that or the Commander foolishly believed that the shuttle that towed him had been dispatched by the other vessels in the area."

The eyes of Shingen were again wide. "You are not going to tell me what I think you are going to tell me?"

"My friend with the lonely stars as my sole witness, my shuttle towed that ship back to Foron where I waited patiently for its return."

"You are full of it Takvah, the drink has made me placid but it has not made me a fool!"

"I would never call you a fool but I swear to you on the brotherhood; that ship was delivered to my waiting hands."

"Unbelievable!" Shingen said, motioning toward the barkeep. "Another bottle of my friend's favorite!"

The barkeep tipped his head in acknowledgment.

"When she entered Foron I ordered the shuttle to release the prey and to return to base. I then rushed to the Aestrom's location and dispatched her to Hades with a volley that cost me more credits than a sane man would venture to spend in any one endeavor!" Takvah chuckled.

The barkeep placed a new bottle of whiskey before the men, along with two new glasses. Shingen tossed a few credits on the table and threw the barkeep a nod.

    "And the Asimov?" Shingen asked.

"That witch of the stars entered the system as my shuttles retrieved what was of value from the Aestrom. I did not wait to exchange pleasantries with her Commander, I withdrew."

Shingen nodded. "You served yourself well, Takvah. It is not many that face that one alone that live to tell the tale."

Takvah shook his head and poured the two another round. "It was glorious. It was simplicity from anarchy. However, I believe that I made an enemy this day. I do not look forward to the next instance in which I come to face the Asimov."

"Fair enough," Shingen said. "But perhaps the Commander of the Asimov is not so looking forward to the next meeting with you either."

The two men looked at one another and chuckled partaking in a final glass of whiskey.

"I hadn't thought of it that way," Takvah said with a gleam in his eye. "I'd just as soon believe that he'll be ready to avenge that recruit when next we meet. It might mean my life."

    Shingen spoke softly, "Indeed."

The two men sat quielty enjoying their bottle. Takvah lit another cigarette in nervous anticipation of that future meeting as the raucous noise of the bar drowned out all further conversation between them and signaled the beginning of the night's drunken revelry.

    END

Thanks for some GREAT Multiplayer action, go to:

    Marvin... Commanding Asimov

    Robert Iceman... Commanding Avenger

And Woolgiant... the new recruit in the Aestrom

I might also mention that during our play, I was killed by Asimov once as well... this interaction I have portrayed through RP was one of several hit and run encounters I had with these three capable and FRIENDLY commanders this evening. Any one of them is capable of BLASTING MY ASS TO KINGDOM COME... this was just a lucky moment of note heheh.

  22. I ignored the fact that Bush is on the right track (according to you) because it is just a ridiculous statement.

As for the rest, I said what I had to say. Bush is not what I had in mind when I voted for him. He is not what I had in mind when the Supreme Court mercifully heard my PRAYERS and selected him. He has turned out to be a nightmare.

As for doing the dirty work... I guess releasing shepherds and piling up prisoners that have no information on TERRORISM in pyramids and homoerotic poses is your idea of what... a tea party? This nation is engaged in nothing but dirty work these days kid... read a paper. If you think that this is an isolated bunch doing this you're not very bright, the same homoerotic techniques have been observed in Afghanistan and Guantanamo. Must be just seven whackos from Privates to Master Sergeants engaged in this... right? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT. Twenty thousand mercenaries and interrogators employed by corporations... yeah, it's the military that is sick and perverted... MY ASS. Support the troops and let's get to the bottom of who is REALLY calling the shots in ordering this madness within these prisons. Or don't you care?

One week to Jaguar's return? I'll reserve my comments until his passion returns *snickers*.
