What's wrong when... (please read!! very important!)

the textures get all corrupted with many games?

The sky is turned into black explosion textures and the ground is just plain white with orange lines!!! Not only Hidden and Dangerous, but also Carmageddon 2, for example does this!!

Does this mean that my Videocard is broken or does this mean my RAM is broken, or my harddisk or is it just a software issue??

The reason I post it here is because usually you get a fast reply here so my appologies for the 'off-topic' subject, but as you can imagine if I have to buy a new card I want to know it as soon as possible!

P.S. I have an S3 ViRGE DX 4MB software video card (with latest S3 drivers) and a Trust Voodoo Dragon 2 (with Glide 2.56, latest 3Dfx driver kit) and DX7.0A

Thanks for moving it. It sounds like an icky issue with one of your vid cards.. you're running in 3dfx mode I'd assume? Try running in software, if the same problem shows up, then chances are your 3dfx card is fux0red. Are you trying overclocking or anything like that? Chances are the card is dying, dead, or just sick.

I am not overclocking anything. Just the plain old Intel Celeron 400MHz with 64MB SDRAM...

If the same problem shows up in software mode, then my 3dcard is not broken, but my 2d card is, right?

But couldn't it be just the drivers? I mean there are so many problems with DX7 I heard...

BTW I found new drivers for DX7 support from 3Dfx last night for my Voodoo 2. Problem still exist, though I now get some night like experiences in Cutscenes. The sky is dark like it is night and when an explosion occures, it turns normal again.... Doesn't this sound like software problems rather than a broken card?

Ok, checked by running various games in software mode. No problems except some transparancy issues, but that's normal with my card, but the textures stay as they have to be...

BTW you have to know that not every game gives texture problems;

Some games I tested in hardware which gave problems are:

Mechwarrior 3 (after about 5mins the textures go ballistic), Hidden & Dangerous (after about 5 mins the textures go ballistic), Carmageddon 2 (though you can play quite some time).

In software all these games run fine.

Some games I tested in hardware which do not give problems:

Falcon 4.0, Driver, Grand Theft Auto 2.

Still any suggestions? If not every game gives problems then it's certainly a driver problem right?

I'd say trying to haul that 3dfx card in and get it replaced. I once had a problem with every single game on my PC giving me a crash after a given amount of time, but I had no clue as to why. After 6 months of working through it, I finally found out it was the AMD K-6 processor that was recently put causing my grief.. it was faulty. Replaced er with an Intel, worked fine.

So see if you can get the 3dfx card replaced, and that _should_ make your problem go away.

I went back to DX6.1 (with a lot of hassle, but I managed to get it done with a util called DXUn or something), but nothing has changed... all that work (

Though, with DX6.1 the sky is normal again.

I got a little util called DR. Hardware and I ran some tests. Now it says I have a problem with IRQHolder for PCI steering 60 and 62 (IRQ 10 and 11). The problem code is 16H(22).

The IRQ 11 is shared with my 2D Videocard

and IRQ 10 is shared with the USB controller.

Ok, right click on My Computer and go to Properties, then click on the Device Manager tab. It'll give you a list of all the stuff Windows has detected on your system. Scroll down the list and tell me if there are any conflicts shown.

Well Parias, that's just what I am worrying about: No conflicts shown.

Mr. Dilvorn, the BIOS temperature of the CPU displays around the 36 degrees Celsius.

So no overheating I guess...

Is there a utility which can read the Voodoo card's temperature?
