the wonderful game, bc300ad, decided to be VERY bad. It caused windows to stop running properly. It had to first fix the registry, but then I could not start windows up because 'explorer caused an illegal operation'. I had to reset my bios. It booted up, but now I cannot use my cd rom. All because of the game. All I did was start the 'software rendering' version of program. Then I had to reinstall my old video card because my bios got messed. I couldnt even make a boot disk! When I finally got it to work the boot disk failed anyway.

help, please!

p.s. I read the faq, and the readme (i installed under c:bc300ad and have and ide hd)

Oh lord what did you do??? What's your specs? The game will not mess up your computer like that, you did something that made the computer screw up. And if you don't know anything about the REGISTRY don't mess with it.

The Game had absolutely NOTHING to do with what you are experiencing. I suggest that you employ your "System Recovery CD" if you have one. Then let the BC3K CD install to it's defaults, like it wants to. It'll run fine from there on. From all that I can see, you had something set on your computer which caused all of this. I know you won't believe me, but I've now had BC3k installed on 4 different machines and it worked just fine on all of them. P.S. I've probably installed it over a hundred times so I know what I'm talking about.

Well, I do believe you, that it must be my system, but it was working fine before that. Now I cannot even reload windows, because the boot disk wont work (I have tried 3 disks) and in windows the cd rom wont work any more. *I am using the demo.

If you can offer any advice on how to correct this please do. Otherwise I have to take it to the shop. If the game caused this I will have to inform the game's company. The machine is messed. At this point I can either:

a. Use my old video card, 640*480@16 colors(not 16bit), and be able to print and use floppy discs

or..

b. use my new card, and 1207*754(or whatever it is)@32bit color, and not be able to print or use floppy

either way my cd rom is messed, all my icons are gone, start menu lost all programs, bios is messed, and I have to access all programs by using explorer, until I move the shortcuts to the start menu.

The DEMO is not supported. BESIDE the game will not screw your computer, you screwed it up yourself. Take it to the shop if you don't know how to fix it yourself.

Forgive me here SC, I'm going to get a little "Down and Dirty!"

Commander, No way in Hell did this game screw with your BIOS! It won't even mess with your registry to the extent that it would crash Windows! That's why you have to go into your system to make sure that Extended Memory is set per the FAQ. Now, just what exactly did you do to attempt to get it to run, and what was it again that it did when you first installed and tried to run it? We might be able to assist you in getting everything back online, but PLEASE refrain from attempting to level charges that BC3K is responsible for your system crash. OK?

SpacePhish, give me a break, ok? Not everyones perfect...

The Bios was already messed. I reset the bios setting, then it was fixed. I installed the game and the bios got messed again. I think that when the tech people reinstalled windows on my system (they copied it from another one, because they had to reinstall my cd-rom and hd. In fact, I might ask for a new computer. This is getting stupid) they may have had a bad sys config, that messed up my computer. To get my comp to run? I first tried using safe mode, with no avail. Then boot disc(s), with no avail. I called tech support, and they said the hd was ide. Finally, after having scanreg load a backup, windows loaded, but all the icons were gone, all startup files gone, almost everything had been deleted (like screen saver settings and background). My cd-rom also would not work. Any ideas? I wont say that bc3k did it, but the system was working fine before I installed it.

On a side note:

most of my programs are running fine (ie internet explorer) but pshop 5 is not working. I think we might have a direct x problem. Then again, maybe not...

Well, this is very strange. I tried installing another game, microsofts alligance, and it did the same thing bc3000 did when i first started up. It locked up at a black screen. Then I reinstalled directx and alligance worked fine. I think the game *might* have messed with directx. Dunno

Okay, sorry Laguna. I know how you feel man, when your computer's gone to hell you feel like ripping somebody to pieces. BC does not use DirectX, so it has nothing to do with DirectX. Beyond that I tell you my skills are pretty limited but I will still try to help you anyway I can. Is your warranty still effective? If it is your warrenty should cover it, they(the dudes who you got the computers from) should fix it.

BC3K...

  1. Does not do anything to the BIOS

  2. Does not use DirectX

  3. Only adds its install path to the registry. It does not do any other modifications to it

If you've hosed your system because you were screwing around with it, then take it back to the shop and get it fixed. Everything you are experiencing above is a result of you screwing around in your BIOS and your Registry.

Apart from that, the demo is not supported. You're on your own.

After many hours of fixing I dont really know whats wrong. There, most likely, was already a problem with my sys. Bc3000 just set it off. I have it to a working condtion, and my data is fine (but all my links are gone). Bc3000 also works. I only messed with the bios, but tech told me what to do with it. I will not blame bc3000, but It did start something, though. I might just get a new computer. This one has caused many problems. Ahh. Well, thank you all for your help. And I dont feel like ripping anyone to pieces. As long as my data is safe the problem can be fixed.

BC3K couldn't do anything that would set it off. Unless your computer is alergic to file transfers, there is no way anything could have happened. And even then it is not BC3K's fault.

Well, it dosnt matter what you think. It was working fine, then I played it, and it messed my system. End of story. I am tired of trying to be nice. Get real, it happened. Things happen. Read my posts. I will not blame bc3000, but It did start something, though.

Okay whatever dude. Sure, it happened. BC3k blew up my computer right in front of me, I'm telling you my whole computer was smoking and melting into oblivion(NOT). Smoke was everywhere, bunch of insane foolz started knocking on my door and then my baby(she was very drunk) came into my room and we hmmmm... END OF STORY.

This is turning into "did not, did too". I'm closing it.

Laguna, thanks for letting us know how things worked out. Glad you were able to get it all running again.
