Guest Elemental Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 Whenever I try to go into 3dfx mode In BC3000 I get an "Illegal Exeption". It always does that. I did EVERYTHING THE FAQ SAID and it still doesent work. I have a 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 so I downloaded the 3dfx Voodoo drivers on the download page and then downloaded the voodoo 3 drivers into my BC3000AD file. It did not work. Again I DID EVERYTHING THE FAQ SAID. PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE. I got one fast computer and I wanna see what it can do to make BC3000AD. I have 2.9 and my PC's stats are.... Pentium 3 processor 600mhz Windows 98 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 128K RAM 6 gigs of memory ------------------
Steve Schacher Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 I have a P3 550 with a Voodoo3 3000, Windows 98, and 128 meg of ram.Did you make sure that the glide2x.ovl from this site is in your game directory? When I downloaded the January 2000 version of the 3dfx drivers, I no longer needed this file in my directory. But when I downloaded the February 2000 version of the drivers, I had to put it back.
Steve Schacher Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 quote:I downloaded the 3dfx Voodoo drivers on the download page Try updating your Voodoo3 drivers from the www.3dfx.com page. Only copy the glide2x.ovl from this site to your game directory.
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 Steve, if the glide2x.ovl driver, included in the most recent 3DFX driver update (yes, they screwed it up again, which is why I have drivers on my site that are known to work) does not work, why are you telling him to download it? Sure, he can update his environment with the 3Dfx drivers, but if the glide2x.ovl file in that set does not work, he'll have to use the one on this site.Anyway, it doesn't sound like he has the file in the proper place and thats why its crashing on startup. Either that or he didn't unzip the driver in the voodoo3.zip file, contained in the 3dfxdrivers.zip archive.

There are changes to the display adapter control options that he may want. I admit that I'm no expert (insert LOL here ) on what is included in device drivers, but I thought that there were more files involved than just the glide2x.ovl that he may want/need.
Guest Elemental Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 I cant find any upgrades for my Voodoo 3 and I also have glide2x.ovl in my C:Windows folder.
Guest Elemental Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 Do u have 2 put it in the C:BC3000AD file or somewhere else?
Guest Elemental Posted March 3, 2000 Report Posted March 3, 2000 Im sorry it is an Illegal Operation not an Illegal exeption.
Steve Schacher Posted March 4, 2000 Report Posted March 4, 2000 Something strange is going on at the 3dfx website. Last week, they had a screaming picture announcing "New Drivers!! 2/9/00! Now it's gone and the most recent driver is dated 1/28/00. I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to see what version is on my system. quote:Do u have 2 put it in the C:BC3000AD file or somewhere else?If you put it in the C:Windows folder, then it will affect every application you run. If you put it in the C:BC3000AD folder, then it will only apply to BC3K. You may want to take it out of your systems folder and put it only in your BC3K folder.
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 4, 2000 Report Posted March 4, 2000 Just uninstall the game according to the FAQ and start from scratch. If you are asking where to put the glide2x.ovl file, it means you didn't read the FAQ, nor the readme.txt file in the 3dfxdrivers.zip file.3Dfx screw up the drivers on a daily basis. So, I'm not surprised they pulled the those drivers. The latest version is the one released on 1-25-2000.
Guest Elemental Posted March 4, 2000 Report Posted March 4, 2000 I read the FAQ and I reinstalled it from scratch like the FAQ said and itstill dosent work. Also because I uninstalled the game I LOST MY SAVE GAME WHERE I HAD A BATTLECRUISER THAT KICKED ASS!!!!!!!
Parias Posted March 4, 2000 Report Posted March 4, 2000 That's not anybody's fault but your own, Elemental, for not backing up your save-game/pilot files prior to deletion.Anyways, just a wild stab in the dark, when you get the illegal operation error, smack that "Details" button and tell us what it says.. like "BC3k caused an invalid page fault in Glide2x.dll" or something of that kind.. what does it say?------------------ Cmdr.
