Cmdr Dallas Posted March 21, 2000 Report Posted March 21, 2000 Hi, I was just wondering if there is any hope at all for us ppl that are running pure linux systems? I'm a huge BC3kAD fan, but since I've switched to linux all I've been able to do is hope that there will one day be a port for us. I decided that instead of waiting for something to happen I would post here to show my interest and perhaps get an answer to this question. Thank you.//David
Cmdr Dallas Posted March 21, 2000 Author Report Posted March 21, 2000 Ok, and there is nothing that would make you change your mind? Not even now that XFree86 4.0 has built-in OpenGL and direct access to 3d hardware?
Guest macross Posted March 22, 2000 Report Posted March 22, 2000 I'd like to throw in my support for Linux, too. It's my preferred OS, and I only keep windows on my machine at home so that I can play games (like BC3K).I'll take "Never" to mean "Not even being considered," although since I'm an optimist, I'll actually take it as "Not even being considered, YET." (in a few months or 20 years or whatever.)Macross The ever helpful
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 22, 2000 Report Posted March 22, 2000 Once you guys tell me who is going to pay for this port development, I will consider it.
Cmdr Dallas Posted March 24, 2000 Author Report Posted March 24, 2000 Well, ok, I guess that is a problem. But you could get loki games to port it to linux (that is all they do, port games to linux that is) www.lokigames.com They sell the linux port independent of the original developer and pay royalties to them (you in this case). That way it will cost you nothing and you will still get paid for us linux users (Their linux ports are usually a bit more expensive than the windows versions so most users will go for the windows version anyway, so you wont loose any money on it), but people like me who doesn't use windows can still play the game. Please consider this option.
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 24, 2000 Report Posted March 24, 2000 Giving my code to a third party is never an option.
ShoHashi Posted March 25, 2000 Report Posted March 25, 2000 I sorta seen that coming, Cmdr Dallas. If you had spent several years developing a sim like Derek has done with BC3K, I'm sure you wouldn't want to give your code away for all to see. Even if it was just going to be ported. It pays to be secretive with things like that and I can see why Derek thinks like that. ------------------ Cmdr ShoHashi Spectre Fleet Chief Security Officer, PreComm Crew, StarStation New Frontier ICV Aries ICQ 484321"Attack With Effectiveness"
Cmdr Dallas Posted March 25, 2000 Author Report Posted March 25, 2000 If you had checked their homepage before you replied you would have seen that they have ported games like Quake 3, Myth 2, Heavy Gear 2, etc.
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 25, 2000 Report Posted March 25, 2000 What's them porting other games (which I am aware of), got to do with me making my code, available?Besides, I already said no. Thus ends the discussion.
