Guest Bumper Posted June 4, 2000 Report Posted June 4, 2000 Hi, First my specs. P2 300mhz, 96mb ram, Primary display card cirus 3D, 8mb Voodoo2 in PCI slot 32xCd rom I have just purchased V 2.08 of this game but experiencing the same problem as EricD, except when I start the game from the 3dfx icon or standard play 2D icon the intro will play but then either crash to the desktop or the monitor will go into standby mode with piano cords from the speckers. Have tried all suggestions from the FAQ file on the site and installed all the update files, but still no joy. Have also tried EricD's remedy with no avial. I have the latest 3Dfx Directx7 driver for my Voodoo2 installed could this be a problem? Also I could only get the intro to play with the scitech docter Installed. Cheers,Bumper.
Eclipse Posted June 4, 2000 Report Posted June 4, 2000 Have you tried the 3DFX fix thats on the downloads page? If not, do so and see if that works. This might not be related to your problem, but it fixed BC3K after it qouldn;t run when I updated my drivers------------------ Cmdr. Rattler Posted June 4, 2000 Report Posted June 4, 2000 Remove the Display Doctor. That's step 1. Sounds like you definitely have the wrong drivers installed. Working from Memory, DirectX 7.0 only addresses your primary card's drivers. You need to get the latest drivers from your Voodoo II Card Manufacturer. Also, Eclipse is correct. When all else fails put the 3dfx drivers from the site directly into your BC3000 Folder on your hard drive. Also make sure that you aren't trying to overclock your processor, Voodoo card if possible, and also make sure that you did set up your sound card correctly. If all else fails, do a complete re-install. That means uninstall from the control panel and then go into hard drive and delete the entire BC3000 folder and it's contents. BTW, You didn't try to configure from within the game and then abort it did you? Try the above remedies first and get back to us. Also, on the shortcut there's a box that says "close on exit" I believe. Make sure that isn't checked and try to run the game again before you start deleting. I'd like to know what it says when it crashes.------------------ Rattler, Insurgent One Commander-In-Chief, Insurgency Official BC3K Tester [email protected] ICQ 12894104"Arise, Old Insurgents, Long dead but eternal in time and space. Guest aramike01 Posted June 4, 2000 Report Posted June 4, 2000 Ratt, you look like you got this one licked! As a side note, however, you may want to consider downloading the 2.09 patch and patching up. ------------------ Cmdr. Rattler Posted June 4, 2000 Report Posted June 4, 2000 I hear nothing but crickett sounds for the past day or so on this one. If I don't get a response pretty soon from Bumper, I'm closing this one. Guest Bumper Posted June 6, 2000 Report Posted June 6, 2000 Have tried patching with v2.09 and the voodoo drivers from the web page but no joy. I will atempt to remove and reinstall my voodoo card with its original drivers and then update to the latest driver for my card. will get back to you soon. Cheers Bumper.
Guest Bumper Posted June 7, 2000 Report Posted June 7, 2000 During my attempt to reinstall the voodoo card, somehow a error accured in windows explorer causing a malfunction, so will need to reformat the hard drive and start over. Probably need help from the pros on this one but thanks anyway guys. Cheers Bumper.
Parias Posted June 7, 2000 Report Posted June 7, 2000 Woa woa Bumper, hang on a minute! Not to get off-topic of the purpose of the thread or something, but I haven't heard of any error in Windows Explorer that would force you to have to format your hard drive... and doing that is a pretty serious thing! Guest Bumper Posted June 7, 2000 Report Posted June 7, 2000 If you are wondering how I can still reply to Email it's because I have two computers. The one I'm on is much newer than the P2 But I can't run BC in 3D mode on this one. To answer your question I went to reboot my machine and after entering my password for windows unstead of loading the desktop a message came up saying that windows explorer had performed an illegal operation and would shut down. ( A page fault had occured ) so I tried to start win95 setup to restore lost or corrupt files but this won't work. So it might be of to the docter. Cheers Bumper.
Guest aramike01 Posted June 7, 2000 Report Posted June 7, 2000 Try booting windows in safe mode and see if you can figure out what happened, see if you get any errors, etc. If you can locate the source of the problem then use your restoration disk to remedy it.------------------ Cmdr. Guest Bumper Posted June 8, 2000 Report Posted June 8, 2000 The windows DBCBUFF.SYS file is corrupt or missing and the machine will hang in safe mode. This computer has been upgraded since purchase so the restore disc will no longer work I tried. I may have been able to get the game working on the Pentium3 in 2D mode but I believe I haven't been able to patch the game with the 2.09v as I first thought and allso I don't think I have been able to configure the sound card properly. The specs for the Pentium3,600mhz Prosesor, 128mb Ram, nvidia TnT2 primary display card and SB Live sound card. Am I right in believing that there is a downloadable update coming that will enable the game to work with openGL and Directx drivers? Cheers Bumper.
Cruis. In Posted July 3, 2000 Report Posted July 3, 2000 hey your problem seems quite misleading...with the latest drivers from 3dfx, there seems to be some sort of bug in the glide driver, because when I had v 6 of the drivers installed I never had this problem, but when I updated to 7, this problem came. WHen I run BC once it's ok and plays fine, if I exit the game, and go back in, my monitor goes into standby mode because the v2 card was not refreshed, if you go to control panel>display>your v2 card tab, then click on info you will see all the memory for the card is reading 0. But because you have clicked it now and the screen has refresed...the memory is back and you can open bc3k safely again... but since you said the game is crashing when you start up..because it is crashing right after the intro I'd say some problem with your chosen drivers...did you create a desktop shortcut and change all the options specified in the faq?------------------ Commander Cruis. In Spectre Fleet CEO, Sygan Star Station ICV Defiance"Dare to be defiant"
