I want to be able to use some cheat modes,

but I can't get them to work.

I don't know what version I've got.

I bought my cd on sept 28, 1999 in

New Zealand.

It's so frustrating using dopey ai crew.

Can anyone help?

First off, above all else, remember to read the FAQ and search the forums extensively before posting, because chances are you'll probably find your answer already. That being said, can you elaborate a little? What's your exact problem? Saying "It doesn't work" doesn't exactly help much.. heh smile.gif Also, to check which version you're running, hit Control+V whilst in-game.

Yep. i've tried ctrl + v and that doesn't help, and I've read the files but I still can't figure out where's the version no.

My problem is my crew are dumb and I would like to have better ai for them. If I need to check which version the cheats work for, how do I find what version I've got.I've pressed ctrl + v and that doesn't work.

So before the intro I paused and found this:

dos/4gw professional protected mode

runtime version 2.00 copyright tenberry software inc, 1995.

and then after the intro I paused and got

this:

bc flight release version 199z.25 of feb 05 1997.

If this is anything to go by. Can you Help.

I think you're running version 2.00. In order to use the cheats, you first must patch up to at least version 2.08, although I recommend you follow up with 2.09 immediately after your initial patch. Do so at the downloads page of this site.

Secondly, you need to download the play mod. Some docs are included however, you should be advised that the playmod is an UNSUPPORTED cheat utility. Unzip the playmod to your BC3K folder and read the docs included.

I should warn you that none of this will work properly if I've given you the wrong info as to what version you are running. To better inform me as to which version it is, tell me about the manual you recieved when you purchased the game. More so, give me information on how many pages long the printed manual is.

80 pages long, eh? Sounds to me like you have the European version 2.08. If this is true, simply download the Playmod from the downloads page and unzip it into your BC3K folder. Then, read the docs, double-click on Playmod.exe and enter the code for which cheat you plan on using. Or simply execute the available cheats. the artifact one is great if you want to increase the AI levels of your crew. If you don't want the artifacts, simply jettison them.

As far as I'm aware, version 2.00 only came with a 40 page manual, but again, I could be mistaken. And, I'm not totally sure that you are not playing one of the 1st version games.

Hope I could be of some assistance.

OK, now it's time you tell me exactly what you are doing. Tell me what files you are executing, what if anything you are entering into the DOS command line, what you have and have not downloaded, etc. I can't help you without this information. Sorry.

Oh, and just so you know, if you are entering the cheat into the DOS command line, make sure that it appears as follows:

set cheat 6

Then hit control-Z and you are on your way. Just make sure that there is an active profile to apply the cheat to. Not sure what would happen off of a fresh install.

V2.08 came with 142 page manual, V2.0 came with 40 page manual, and V1.0 came with 30 page manual. Don't know what version he has with an 80 page manual!

quote:

O.K. Ido a full install instead of partial

V1.0 came out with options of install of Full, Medium, and Small.

V2.0 came with Typical, Minimal, and Custom options of install.

V2.08 doesn't allow for options.

Now, again, which version are we talking about here?

Just tell us what the box looked like when you took it out of the box. We might be able to help you if we can figure out what version you are running. Did you ever get it to run in the first place? Cntl+v works for me in EVERY version that's been released. I just checked BTW! So what's up with this?

Awaiting to hear your response.

I can do a full or a partial install. The game works perfectly alright. The cover of the box is silver. After pulling it out another box inside black that holds an 80 page manual, a 2page leaflet for keyboard layout, a cd with case, and a registration form. The silver outer cover of the box has at one end of the box, it has system requirements for english and german,

on the back it has features in flags for uk, french, and spanish I think the last one is. Still no go on ctrl v either.

Cmdr Floyd, What you have there is the Euro (UK) Release of V1.0 or some derrivative of it. Now I'm out of ideas other than, if you can find it, buying the upgrade patch to 2.0 and going on from there or just purchasing the 2.08 release. I understand that it is now available down under so that's the way I'd go. Good luck in either decision you make. If, indeed, what you have is the UK release of V1.0 or a later derrivative, I fear that it's a dead end for that version. Support for that particular version (UK or US) is no longer offered on this site. My appologies.

You think it's rough now Cmdr, ya should have been around from the first release. Cheats have just recently been made available. Through the growing curve of the release that you have, there were none. What is a shame is that there are still versions of your game still on the shelves. By the "Suits" still keeping that particular version on the shelves they not only cheat you, but the Developer (Derek Smart) out of royalties that are due him. That's criminal on both counts IMHO!
