Guest tictoc Posted September 11, 2000 Report Posted September 11, 2000 Hey there, system specs first: (friend of mine, please don't laugh at the specs (snigger)) tx-pro mobo intel 166 48mb ram 4mb graphics exxtreme voodoo2 some sound blaster card prob is i've tried to get bc3000ad to work on it, it installs o.k, does the sound setup o.k and when run in either 3dfx or vesa mode (it doesn't recognise the exxtreme card), it kindly either dumps back to the desktop or reports an error: general protection 0028:c0001fe7 vmm(01) + 00000fe7 inturrupts in service 0 now, i've checked his system through and there is no reference that i can see to these addresses, for the voodoo2, i put the glide 2x.ovl in the bc folder but no joy, i installed the sci tech doctor and presto it works, but, all the colors are messed up making it practically unusable (nice mosaic though), i tried all the resolution tests and they work fine except when running the game. I have bc3000ad installed on both my comps and it works a treat (their hardware is different from each other), so i know my installing is not at fault, any ideas as i have to keep going to his house and drink loads of coffee and i don't think my bladder can take anymore. regards tic

Guest tictoc Posted September 12, 2000 Report Posted September 12, 2000 Hi. been there...done that...still get dumped to desktop or the general protection error as i described above, is the vmm(01) to do with virtual memory?, i'm only guessing, he has over 1mb of virtual mem to play with and plenty of disk space, i've even used the old trick of putting virtual mem to fixed sizes but no joy there either, it all seems to stem to a gfx prob, but the sci-tech doctor plays up something cronic with the colors, funny thing with the sci-tech is the menu display comes up ok as normal colors, it's only with animation there is a prob with it. Any more help? regards tic
Guest tictoc Posted September 12, 2000 Report Posted September 12, 2000 Did i say 1 mb of virtual, someone shoot me please, i meant 1gb sorry. regards tic
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 12, 2000 Report Posted September 12, 2000 ...and why exactly do you need SDD?
Rattler Posted September 12, 2000 Report Posted September 12, 2000 And here I was thinking that maybe his refresh rates weren't matched. It's been quite a while since I visited the subject of Voodoo 2's but wasn't there something about ensuring that you had 2D and 3DFX refresh rates matched? There also was some limitations that had to be observed in the shortcut and .bat files. Correct SC? I'm also leaning towards the drivers, not just the ones for his Voodoo2 board, but the drivers for his 2D board as well.------------------ Insurgent One, Rattler ICV Necromancer, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commander-In-Chief, Insurgency Official Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104

Guest tictoc Posted September 16, 2000 Report Posted September 16, 2000 Hehe. all i can say my friend is that one day it won't work and the next it did? the only explaination in way of comparison i can think of is mayby, putting in a new proc and letting it bed in before o/clocking it, y'know, let things settle in, my mate has shelved earth2150 and is totally tied up with this game, now he can copy his saves and transfer them to my lan setup and pester me for info when i'm trying to sneak up on the gammulans. regards tic

Somebody didn't RTFM! You never said anything about overclocking. That would have told us what was wrong in the first place. It clearly says to NOT overclock. Glad you finally got it to work but, for future reference, do not overclock while running BC3K. It causes strange things to happen and you'll chase your tail for hours, not finding any reason except that you overclocked! ------------------ Insurgent One, Rattler ICV Necromancer, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commander-In-Chief, Insurgency Official Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104[This message has been edited by Rattler (edited 09-16-2000).]
Guest tictoc Posted September 16, 2000 Report Posted September 16, 2000 I never said it was using an o/clocked proc, i just said it as a comparison, where somethings need to be warmed up if you like, to work properly. Just for the record on o/clocking, i use an amd 500 clocked to 560 with an o/clocked matroxg400 max, my 2nd comp uses an o/clocked amd 350 to 450 with an o/clocked voodoo3 and neither have probs, but i do know what you are saying. regards tic
GREG MILLER Posted September 17, 2000 Report Posted September 17, 2000 What my good buddy Rattler is saying is, you didn't read all the Faq's or manual. BC3K was not meant to be ran on an Overclocked system; and doing so can and will cause problems with game operation.I think I got ya covered Rattler. ------------------ Commander Greg Miller GCV - Sark, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet XO, Wing Leader, Tsunami Battle Group www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk'Here cometh the storm!'
Rattler Posted September 17, 2000 Report Posted September 17, 2000 Yep, That just about covers it. Many times we've seen "Mysterious" crashes and the lot which were caused by an overclocked system or video card. That's why the statement is in the manual. If tic's got his running on an overclocked system and having no problems then more power to him. Just remember though, if it starts to go south on you, bring the clock rates back to normal and it should straighten out."Nuff Said"Thanks Greg!------------------ Insurgent One, Rattler ICV Necromancer, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commander-In-Chief, Insurgency Official Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104[This message has been edited by Rattler (edited 09-17-2000).]
