On both freeware versions of BC3K, there is a problem when I cycle through the tacops computer. When I stop at the support unit locator, the tacops computer just gets stuck there. I can't switch to air or ground mode. Maybe the problem might be something with the /d1 parameter in the batch file, but I can't do anything about that because I do not have the CD. I also have a problem when using the "O" key to get off planets. It does'nt work at all, even above 45000 feet. Lastly, every new game in 2.9 already has cheats installed, which I want to get rid of.

My computer is a 266 Mhz P-II, with 96 mb of RAM running on Windows 98 with a Soundblaster-16 sound card card and a Aopen PA-740 video card with a Intel-740 chipset. The hard drive is 65.5% full, with 2 partitions, on FAT32. The game is installed on drive d:

Also, where can I get scripts?

I've read the manual hundreds of times over.

Also, the no tech support policy for the freeware version only applies to the email support, right?

Ahhh...that explains why I am able to stop a starbase from shooting at me....I was wondering about that...

And I'm having the same troubles with the planetary radar getting stuck at SUL. If you switch from air to ground, you cannot get back to air. If you switch from ground to SUL, there doesn't seem to be a way to get back to air or ground. Unless there's a key I just overlooked (goes to check the key listing)...

EDIT:

Nope...no key that goes back through the cycle. Definitely gets stuck on SUL, but only planetside. Hitting the K key again, does nothing. Workaround?

What kind of cheats are talking here? If we talk about cheats here, then they are (offline) modifications to a savegame. (ie add artifacts to your cargobay, add specific person to your BC, set all crew AI to 100%) If you mean you can choose a career, or more precise, choose your caste, then that's just a standard free-flight game with a bit more scripting work added to it. (just one line)

As for tacscan not going back after SUL. I think you are doing this when you are planet-side, right? Well, you''re not supposed to be there with your BC. The BC was never designed to go planetside, eventhough it can. If it can doesn't mean it's systems will function properly. It should work perfectly spacebound.

All the cheats, GBS etc, are already part of the v2.09 freeware distribution. There is nothing to download. So, don't send them to the downloads page. Just tell 'em to RTFD

There are NO cheats installed in that v2.09 freeware release. NONE

If some of you actually spent time actually READING the provided docs, you'd spam the site less.

The /d1 flag in the .BAT files, is there to suppress the CD-ROM check (you have to have some kind of CD-ROM in the drive, however), write debug info the log file, display AI info in the external camera view etc. It doesn't prevent anyone from firing on you etc

And you CANNOT run the game without it, unless of course, you can find a way to hack the CD-ROM check (good luck, you're gonna need it) from the executables and then remove this param from the .BAT files.

ALL the cheats are in the GBS folder, complete with instructions on how to use them.

Finally, the Tacscan modes are craft specific. RTFM

I'm confused, though, because the HSD, ENM, and TCMD icons (er, text icons) are on my HUD.

Does that mean that those are debug icons?

I'm not sure if this works, but a long time ago you could edit the BC3K ini file CD location to the BC3K runtime dir and it would accept it as the CDROM. If it still does I'd hazard a guess that it might run without the /d1 param.

Thanks! Anyways, it too unfortunate that the BC does'nt work properly on planetfall, since the easiest way to destroy a compound is upgrade to the best shields available, then strafe the compound (first SAMs and SALs with the IOD. Finally, clean up by hovering over the compound, letting your pta shred the ground units.
