Guest Posted July 26, 2000 Report Posted July 26, 2000 SC - thought I could share this - had to ditch BC on Lyrius for repairs. So decided to have pot at a raider base some way off. Loaded three marines into ATV1 and sent off towards raider base in the shuttle. Set waypoints for SH1 to drop ATV about 25K away from the base. Drop went well - gave ATV order to attack a large radar installation on the base. ATV got to about 3K away from target and raiders reacted strongly - lots of incoming and I could see fighters launching too. All under Auto Ai the ATV took out the radar using Radix. Things started getting too hot so I decided to bug out - gave ATV a RTB. Watching the action from Tacops I saw two L-Fighters give chase to my fleeing ATV. But WOW what Ai, every now and again the ATV still under Ai control would do 360 degree turn or two, trying to shake off it pursuers, and am I right was it also launching Radixs at the fighters? From tacops it looked like it. Anyway the fighters continued to do some damage and it was getting touch and go wether my marines would make it back to the waiting shuttle - but they did -just. I did a very quick Extract ATV from the SH1 Hud menu and we got the hell out. One L-fighter gave chase briefy to the shuttle but then broke off (whew). Getting back to the far away BC I had a look at the marine stats and noticed one marine in particular had gained EXP. (was he the ATV driver I wondered?) Hope you dont mind me posting this - I do not post a lot, but I do play a lot. BC2.09 is a permanent fixture on my H/drive, and BCM is my most eagerly awaited forthcoming attraction. Thank you. Supreme Cmdr Posted July 26, 2000 Report Posted July 26, 2000 heh, that sounds like a typical engagement. You'll come to enjoy that even more in BCM when you see your guys actually running around, ducking for cover, going prone, throwing grenades etc. All AI controlled. All combat marines get AI based on engagement, so, it doesn't have to be a driver, because there is no such concept in the game (unlike fighters that have pilots). The APM prefix in Radix missiles, stands for All Purpose Missile, so yes, they are Surface To Air or Surface To Surface capable. You should've sent in another ATV and perhaps dropped a few marines there. They would have flattened the place. In the future, always watch for the unit that is spewing out fighters, and take those out first. If you have fighters in the air, your troops will have a harder time achieving their objectives, let alone getting out alive. Also, in BCM, the turrets on the ATV are on an independent control mechanism, so, the ATV doesn't have to face the direction of fire. So, it could be fleeing forward and have the turret facing the rear and firing.Or, if you happen to drop a par of Humvees down there, one guy could be driving in one direction and having the other guy in the back, firing the mounted gun.You ain't seen nuthin' yet my friend. Just wait.
