WhizzKidd Posted August 17, 2001 Report Posted August 17, 2001 Heya, A few things that I wonder if someone could shed some light on....First of all, with regard to the amount of radine used by hyperspace jumps. The manual says 10, but every jump seems to use 40 for me. Is it because I upgraded my engines (with some tasty upgrades I found floating around in a debris field)?. Do the upgraded engines use more fuel? Whats the benefit of having those better engines anyway? Ditto upgraded reactor, does it use less radine?Second, I left my battlecruiser doing a patrol whilst I went off in a shuttle to polaris to offload some illegal goods I had found in said debris field only to come back and find my ship had run out of radine (my own fault for leaving it with only 200units of the stuff on patrol I spose). I went and bought some more in the shuttle but the ships reactor didnt start up again, I just restored from the savegame I made from before I went in the shuttle and made a point of buying more radine before leaving my BC, but what gives? Did I just not wait long enough? How long does it take to kickstart a nuclear reactor anyway? Fineally, is there any way to change the refresh rate that BC3K runs at? I read in another topic that you cant change the resolution, which im OK with, just having a refresh rate of 60Hz really gets to me after a while. I useually play most games at 640x480@100Hz and can go ages without any probs, but im sat here with the worlds worst migraine after 4hrs of BC3K . Any help in this regard (like any 3rd party utilities to set refresh rates in DOS etc) would be nice. And fineally, as this is my first post (I only d/l the game a couple of days ago) I'd like to thank the SC for making such a great game freely available. Next on my list of d/l's is the BCM demo, just to tide the time until its released, because if its as good as BC3K (and the buzz around here indicates its better) im gonna be ordering it as soon as its out
desolator Posted August 18, 2001 Report Posted August 18, 2001 And the answer to the second question is: Did you press the reactor start key? Anyway, since this is your first post, Welcome to the club.
Eclipse Posted August 18, 2001 Report Posted August 18, 2001 1. The fuel consumption was changed. upgraded reactors and engines should use less radine.2. In the power screen was the NRE labled as giving any power output after uloading the radine from the shuttle?3. No, not to my knowledge.
Soback Posted August 18, 2001 Report Posted August 18, 2001 After you load your ship with Radine, use either "CTRL+R" or "ALT+R" to restart the reactor, it's one of those.
WhizzKidd Posted August 18, 2001 Author Report Posted August 18, 2001 Cheers, I knew that ignition key was around here somewhere BTW, I got around to reading the version control file and I notice the the table for figuring out how much radine a hyperspace jump takes. Slightly confusing as in the manual it still says that each jump takes 10 radine. Still, got that sorted through a bit of trading and cargosweeping, I upgraded my reactor/engine combo so that now each jump does indeed take 10 radine
desolator Posted August 18, 2001 Report Posted August 18, 2001 WhizzKidd, You never thought of joining a fleet? There are several to choose from. You can look them up at the fleet page from the mainpage. And if you get interested in the Prime Fleet, then Epsilon wing is currently recruiting.
Cmdr Nova Posted August 19, 2001 Report Posted August 19, 2001 If you want to survive in Multiplayer, you should really consider a fleet. Also, if you're up to the challenge, Orion Fleet is also looking for a few good heads. We're the strike force of GalCom, and if you want to be one of the elite, I suggest you look our way. [ 08-18-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
Eclipse Posted August 19, 2001 Report Posted August 19, 2001 Sheesh and Blades calls US vultures. Now before they start in on you, look over the Fleet faq on the 3000ad site, It gives discriptions of all the fleets. Look around, ask questions and don't blindly jump into a fleet. And of course, keep the Insurgency in mind.
Soback Posted August 19, 2001 Report Posted August 19, 2001 If I join the fleet, do I get some sort of a GI bill equivalent?
Cmdr Nova Posted August 19, 2001 Report Posted August 19, 2001 quote:Sheesh and Blades calls US vultures.Heh. Hey, desolator started it! ---And WhizzKid (and anyone else looking into Fleets), also look through the RPG Discussion Forums. That's where the fleets were originally created, in the first place. Reading up on the history of the Fleets, and their members, should get you some useful info, if you're planning on joining one. Orion is a heavy RP Fleet, but not everyone has to RP to be in Orion. quote:If I join the fleet, do I get some sort of a GI bill equivalent?Ehhh... Umm.. Right....... If you join Orion Fleet, you get an Orion Fleet email address, though! [email protected] or whatnot; it's pretty cool![ 08-19-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
desolator Posted August 19, 2001 Report Posted August 19, 2001 *grins* Maybe I started it but I didn't say "Join Epsilon Wing or DIE!" (but you know, resistance is futile.. "Now before they start in on you, look over the Fleet faq on the 3000ad site, It gives discriptions of all the fleets. And since Prime are pretty open-ended..and since Epsilon recruits... Just showing my interest in getting people into the BCM world..

Any help in this regard (like any 3rd party utilities to set refresh rates in DOS etc) would be nice. There's a difference between refresh rate and framerate.Your screen refresh is set to whatever windows' desktop properties/settings tab is set to, or based on your card's specific dos app for that. The in-game framerate, from the ctrl-v key-combo, is determined and adjusted automatically. If you get 60Hz when you expect 100Hz, then realize that BC3k's AI (and BCM) is notorious for making your CPU sweat. Those 40HZ you are missing is likely to be consumed by the AI. A 'frame' is comprised of all the computations needed to update the screen physics/statistics, AI and to render the appropriate views. This is totally seperate from the electron beam scanning inside your monitor.
