Something very strange

Ok. I just beamed myself down to the center of a hostil base, and nothing happened. No one even took a pot shot at me. I beamed myself back up to find that a stormacarrier was sitting about three feet off my port side and had its ptas scratching away at my sheild... yet it never fired its main guns at me... Something is abviously wrong. It is obviously not a bug, or someone else would have noticed things like this happenen, and is why I'm not posting in tech support. Does anyone have any idea how I could have messed things up? I can't figure this one out.

Try staying at that base for about a minute or two. Don't know, whenever I get into an enemy base you can't imagine what havoc insues.

As for the stormcarrier firing only his PTA, first of all he needs to be turned a specific way (pretty much straight at you) for the main guns to do any damage so it would be useless to fire them into empty space, and if he wasn't turning then don't forget it's the AI captain that's commanding that other ship, so just like people they come with different inteligence, he either thought he could take you with his PTA or he just wasn't experienced enough to manuever his ship effeciently. A little piece of advice, if a ship decloacks and attacks you, if you don't have all the upgrades, RUN. A cloacked ship means very smart AI and I found out from experience, they will chew you up.

I've noticed a similar experience. When I've put together landing parties to raid enemy ground installations, I've noticed that enemy marines completely ignore me unless all of my marines are dead. This of course allows me to rack up the XP by killing several enemy marines, or to help out the fighters overhead by wiping out SAM sites.

Does the AI take AI marines more seriously than a commander? I would think the commander is a more valuable target, or is he just less of a threat?

I've been messing around at things a bit. I went and stood in front of a enemy marine. I got in its line of fire, and id didn't do anything. I just stood there.

I flew my ter/mil ship to, I think pixan, enemy station in lennen... I just just a couple of feet from its hull, and it didn't fire a shot at me.

The storm carrier was pointed almost directly at me. My ship was stationary. I thought that it was so weird that I just sat there watching from an external view and it kept doing nothing for a while. Even I Resing himself was piloting the ship, it should have been able to get a firing solution.

Actually, I get out in front of my men, walk up to the enemy marines, and gun them down with a pistol at close range. I've never had one turn and shoot at me, if there are still marines to kill. I might just have been lucky, though.

Hey Ash, was the stormcarrier damaged at all? It could have been in another fight earlier, and its IOD offline.

Badge, I don't think he's saying that the enemy marines are just ignoring him. I think he's saying that any enemy he encounters ignores player controlled units in general. For what I gathered from his post he means that if he beams down to an enemy base there's no active defense against him. Which is, to say the least, odd. I was feeling funny one day and I flew my Questar down over an enemy base. Never do that again...

Simparadox has hit the nail on the head.

If I beam down with marines, then there is an active defense, but I can walk around without worring about taking a hit. Once my marines are dead, no one even looks at me. I can walk up to marines, and they ignore me. If I beam down alone, nothing happens. I can shoot at buildings, take out starbases (it takes a while) but nothing comes after my AE... the stormcarrier, as far as I can tell, had no damage.

I don't know. Something must be messed up. I keep doing fresh installs, figuring that some file or other is corrupted, but nothing changes. I've done defrags, surface-scans. I can't figure it out. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I've done wrong.

Try bringing a stormcarrier down to an enemy base near earth. If you don't see 100 plus lasers firing at you with missles flying everywhere somthing is wrong. I did it myself and man talk about my computer slowing down. I never seen so many lights in my life. I even made it out of there alive! Although With all the repairs I had to make I woulda rather been dead.

P.S. I had 2 of my fighters escorting me and it wasnt till I made them RTB that they opened fire on me instead of my fighters.
