spaceadmiralx Posted January 2, 2002 Report Posted January 2, 2002 i've been playing all day and have compiled the following list of questions: 1. why when i choose to view probe region and observe a planet or moon in that region, it seems to automatically default to the planet location of my cc? 2. if i mistakenly launch a probe while in a planet's atmosphere, there's no way of getting into space, huh? 3. what's up with the quick save? how come i can't restore a game saved by ctrl+s? 4.i'm currently playing as credian/police. my cc is a garid. why when i attempt to set a waypoint say, to a starbase, and turn on the autopilot, the cc defaults to my homebase(vanguard) and attempts to leave the planet and jump out of system? 5. in commander mode, if i buy say, a sniper rifle, how can i equip my marines or AE with it? 6. sometimes while towing i notice my towed vessel mysteriously dissapears before i can get it to a base to claim my bounty. has anyone else had this problem? it appears to occur mainly after saving and restoring. thanx! ----------------------------Sysan Ki Kelpur, UCV Atra Moldanni (credian/poilce) commander, Ronus-IV peacekeeping legion
TARWMSRK Posted January 2, 2002 Report Posted January 2, 2002 * dunno what you mean*did you try a tractor beam? who would launch a probe in the atmosphere anyway? *quick save does not really save your game -- if you quicksave and quit bcm and then later you go back in all you have to do is click resume and it brings you back to where you last saved. Its basically a quick way to save & get out for lazy people *I dont plot points to starbases I just hit ap and tell my cc to dock at x starstation so I dunno.*I dont think you can equip your marines yet. However you can only equip EF marines with sniper rifles if there were an option to. It seems when you deploy them most of em are equipped with sniper rifles anyway. (EF marines) and MI marines are mostly equipped with rocket launchers-- it seems that all ammo is replenished magically when you get back on the CC (which, to me that sucks since youll never have to buy ammo )*I dunno
Cmdr Nova Posted January 2, 2002 Report Posted January 2, 2002 1. You cannot view planets in zones you are not in.2. Nope. (Not to my knowledge. IIRC, they are un-towable. Correct me if I'm wrong.)3. Quick Save just saves the thing where you go into Resume. You should do a full save if you plan on playing a different profile. Quick Save is a good defense against CTD's, though. To reload a quick save, click resume--it only works when you haven't played since you saved it. IIRC, hitting exit game automatically does a quick save on the way out.4. To make your CC autopilot to a station, target it and hit Shift-9. You may enter hyperspace, but that's good. After hitting Shift-9, turn on the AP. When you get close enough to the station, manually fly there, and when you're .5 clicks from it, hit alt-d. That's the basic method of doing it.5. First-Person items are only used for trade items for profit, if you're playing as a commander. There is no way to change marine and alter-ego FP loadouts.6. Easy one. I've experienced this a lot... Answer? It's the carrier cloaking system. Try towing a cruiser as a bounty. They won't disappear.[ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
spaceadmiralx Posted January 2, 2002 Author Report Posted January 2, 2002 thanx, commander. i think i have to re-phrase question 4, however. i'd like to know what's the fastest way to get my cc to a starbase(planetary) without having to travel for a half hour across the planet at a snail's pace.--------------------Sysan Ki Kelpur, UCV Atra Moldanni(credian/police)
TARWMSRK Posted January 2, 2002 Report Posted January 2, 2002 go into space, plot a waypoint for your cc on the planet (wherever you want to go) then reenter the planet and boom! your at where you want to be
spaceadmiralx Posted January 2, 2002 Author Report Posted January 2, 2002 problem is, everytime I try that, my CC turns right around(ap direct or AI) and heads for a starstation in the neighboring system.
Cmdr Nova Posted January 2, 2002 Report Posted January 2, 2002 Learn how to do it without AP.Go into tacops. Make a waypoint where you want to go planet-side. Go back to the bridge view, and target the planet. Hit shift-9 and enter the planet. You'll be right where the waypoint was. Then just target the starbase and dock with it like a space station.[ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
