1.00.02 console server + win2003 + termn svcs = no go?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to get the server to start on my windows 2003 enterprise server through terminal services using the /console option.

This may sound dumb but I run the command:

ucmp.exe /s /console

and nothing happens.

I check the process list and ucmp.exe runs for about a second or so then dies. No errors, no messages. Nothing.

Just to make sure I was doing everything right, I started the server on my windows XP machine just fine with the console.

This is with the latest patch mind you.

Any help?

You should be able to run the console server on Windows Server 2003 I think. Just be sure to use something like UltraVNC to start it, if you are accessing it remotely.

You need the 1.00.02 RC3 patch - but be aware of the screen corruption bug in the console server.

Lemme know how it goes, because I'm interested.

When I do a ucmp.exe /s /console it'll start up the UC Splash screen (black background with the white UNIVERSAL COMBAT) and then it crahses.

Try adding logging to the command line (/l3).Do not know why, but it seems to make a difference for me.

Happen to know where the log file goes?

I believe it will be saved to the universal combat folder. It will create a ucsdebug text file, among others.Do not know if that can be changed.

UCSDEBUG.LOG isn't showing up anywhere on me hard drive.

Huh.. Well I have XP home, not 2003 server. But it sounds like it is crashing before the logs are started. If the server is working you will get a white console window and a lot of text will scroll by with "loading such in such scripts".

heh, well, I for one would like to see it working on Windows Server 2003, so consider yourself the official guinea pig.

In the RC4 patch (maybe out tomorrow), the console server graphics glitch is fixed and I will not protect the executable. This way there is better flexibility for starting remote servers.
