Guest capitalIan Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 I was wondering if anyone could share some wisdom about those interceptors....They are great to have but the pilots do some really stupid things and I was wondering if anyone had any good ways to use them or situations to avoid using them in
Eclipse Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 First off, Welcome!as to your question about IC's, I usually don't launch unless I really need the extra craft around. Then I used them to defend my BC. I'll also use them to escort my shuttles when my BC is too busy as well as destroy mines. Finally I used them for CAS mission on planets. hope this helps some------------------ Commodore Kyle Antilles ICV-Eclipse, Destiny Starstation (Nevuela) Commanding Officer, Destiny Spectre Fleet"You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Guest capitalIan Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 Thanks for the advice. One of my favorite things to do is to go after enemy starstations. The IC's are a godsend when there are A LOT of ships after me (which oftem happens). There I am feeling great and working hard at keeping the BC alive with all IC's on the defend BC mission and then if I am not careful they will chase ships back to the starstation when the ships perform an RTB. THen sometimes when they are attacking a fast moving target (which isn't armed) they die for no reason sometimes. Any helpful hints??
Eclipse Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 hehe... could be several things. They could all be coming out of a HJ on top of each other or they might be accidentally ramming the crat they are attacking, or they could be getting nailed by a Cloaked craft. The list of possibilities are endless.------------------ Commodore Kyle Antilles ICV-Eclipse, Destiny Starstation (Nevuela) Commanding Officer, Destiny Spectre Fleet"You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Guest capitalIan Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 Right now I have established a "beach head" into Gammulan territory. The first starstation in is now mine. I have taken Pixan and Sygan(I can't remember if that is the right name or not) and that first one after Alpha Centari(the name escapes me again). My IC's are flying a lot of missions and getting kills up to about 7 each. The Ai and DF are still low, the highest is 28 and 17. I was curious if that was "normal". But the main question I guess is, is it possible to have a command or do something that keeps the IC's within say 50 units of the BC???, something to keep them from flying close to a starstation and learning the meaning of OUCH. BTW this is a SWEET game and I can't wait to try the new one out.
Guest Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 (Disclaimer: Save game before attempting)Try this:Assign the 2 female pilots to the same IC. For some unknown reason, they seem to perform MUCH better than the average combo of pilots. The PMS squad is legendary in this game.Assign the highest dogfighting skill as pilots on the other IC's.Arm IC's with QUESTORS.In TacOps, launch the IC's and assign IC2 to defend IC1, and IC3 to defend IC4.When attacking a starstation, I park or set my BC to slow speed and send IC1 and IC3 to attack the fighters or buzz the starstation. When station launches missiles and fighters I order them to FLY TO my BC.They jump, the enemy fighters jump after them.. order IC1 and IC3 to attack the same target. Your BC will provide PTA fire support, so make sure your ships stay close to the BC. If enemy fighters retreat (damaged) back to their station, you assign the IC's the next target. Repeat till all enemy fighters are retreating to their station. At this point, you must remember to NEVER allow the IC's to jump and stay near the enemy station. they WILL die. If you see them jump, order them to FLY-TO your BC ASAP.Once the enemy station stops sending enemy fighters at you, you will have a slew of damaged enemy fighters that are trying to dock with the station. Use ONE IC to jump after them, and fry them, take special care to get him out of there if the station's missiles get close. After the station's fighters are done, and it wont launch anything else, its the BC's turn to buzz the station. Leave your IC's at one spot, and use the BC to draw enemy to them. Station will launch cruisers, wipe them out.. then station itself is the only thing left. You can have fun this way (and increase your IC's skills a LOT BTW) or take the sissy approach and pilot the BC into the famous bansai vagrant attack into the enemy station heheheh.Enjoy!
Epsilon 5 Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 I've got to try the PMS thing...About the vagrant banzai, tac, have you ever tried it with the playmod unlimited ammo cheat? It's soooo cooollll!!!, but dishonorable.------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 UCV-StalkerIV Searching for its fleet"Hmmm... what's that? Nothing anymore."
Wold Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 I use the Banzi trick w/ no missiles. Too expensive. Besides, All the starstations seem to have a blind spot somewhere and I just tuck my BC into that little blind spot and blast away till I get the SOS... Just have to wait around until you've killed all the defensive ships and the SS has run out of missiles.I do this cause it seems that my IC pilots have this suicide pact going....I'll also have to give this PMS thing try...------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre FleetICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Eclipse Posted February 10, 2001 Report Posted February 10, 2001 As tac said, prettymuch the only way to keep them w/in a certain distance is to watch them and tell them to fly to BC when they jump. as for starstations. I jut use a/b and retro to kill shields and start picking away with IOD. sometimes I'll come in cloaked and assign a bunch of targets to the FATAL. makes for some nice fireworks. ------------------ Commodore Kyle Antilles ICV-Eclipse, Destiny Starstation (Nevuela) Commanding Officer, Destiny Spectre Fleet"You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Guest capitalIan Posted February 11, 2001 Report Posted February 11, 2001 I gotta try that PMS thing, right after this. Wow this is great, I can get some more use out of those IC's now. My previous starstation engagements would go like this, kill all the ships that it launched at me (shuttles are a priority), cloak and sneak into it's blind spot and then cloak off pta on and all guns a blazing. I can't seem to use missiles effectively at all in this game. Anyone else have any grand IC plans that wants to share, I want to know a lot about how to use them because they can be such a big help or a huge pain in the posterior regions. Thanx all
Guest capitalIan Posted February 12, 2001 Report Posted February 12, 2001 Well as I sit here (after the successful PMS thing) with no ememy ships nearby and an enemy planet in my sights. My IC's have been down a few times but they aren't that effective for me, don't get me wrong they survive (mostly) but not any great help. How would you all recommend that they be used (tips or tricks or anything that comes to mind). This will be a HUGE help and a HUGE annoyance to those dirty Gammulans. Hehe
Eclipse Posted February 12, 2001 Report Posted February 12, 2001 I rarly use fighters on planets. I either nuke from orbit, beam in/shuttle down marines and use my BC as support. I take a bit of damage on the snields, but the PTA is 10x more effective than fighters in my experiance.------------------ Commodore Kyle Antilles ICV-Eclipse, Destiny Starstation (Nevuela) Commanding Officer, Destiny Spectre Fleet"You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Rico Jansen Posted February 18, 2001 Report Posted February 18, 2001 quote:Assign the 2 female pilots to the same IC.Ehm, if my ears and eyes told me correctly, there are suppost to be 3 female pilots. Lace, Nightwing, and Starfire.I tried testing around a bit with putting each of the six combinations in an IC without missiles to test real dogfighting skill. The lass' had to put up with holding off 4 S-24 fighters comming from pixan tugging their skirts. Sofar I noticed that my Lace/Nightwing seems not to live upto the PMS expectations. Where as the other 4 suggest longer endurance. Appearently my Starfire tells the other girls how to fight. Especially when she's in the back seat (CP). I don't know if this is the same for everybody as I noticed DF and BF skills tend to change with different profiles. But I keep seeing recurrent sets of them. They do not seem to be chosen totally at random. For the record: AI DF BA Nightwing 16 12 9 Lace 15 15 15 Starfire 21 11 9Haven't tested this with other profiles so I'm not done yet. I think I'm going to create a little more controlled experiment with GBS. To turn off the autogen-thing, and see how the girls deal with one opponent at a time.Have to go now.
