I haven't found a FAQ or website devoted to the newbie for the content rich BC universe.

If I want to go the way of the merchant and sell and trade cargo, what are some tips I can use to make trading a viable career?

1) Any way to scout starbase prices easier than actually having to visit each base?

2) Are there items that will always make a profit or are there items to stay away from?

3) Is there a "safe bet" when trading?

4) Is there a better ship to use for trading?

Hopefully this sparks a delightful conversation without riling people up too much. I've got a huge amount of questions and I thought that I'd make use of the forums to ask what I couldn't find out any where else.

Well, basically in BC3K you have your shuttles or you Battlecruiser...

If you click Search button (top-right) of screen, type in the word Trade, select Tips, Tricks, and Techniques (under Search Forum/Archive) you'll see 2 listings pop up. They will answer your questions.

Um, never mind, here's 1 of the links. It should answer the rest of those questions. biggrin.gif

I am sorry you feel this way Guardian. I have used the search function on this forum, and have always found what I was looking for and then some. The real credit for that goes to Derek Smart, for keeping this wealth of information available to us at all times, even though he realy doesn't have to.

The ONLY safe bet out there is to harvest the debris fields. Anything that you find out there can be sold at a profit. If you didn't have it and now you do, that's a capital gain. Watch out for those mines in the debris fields though. Send out an IC and minesweep from time to time. Now have fun out there!

HUH?!?!? Rattler, you funn' me?? The ONLY time I had a problem w/ the mines was when I sent my ICs to mine sweep!!! Of course that was in the beginning and the IC pilots were DUMB. First thing they did was waddle up to the first mine they could find and gave it a great BIG hug.... After that I just ignored the mines. Could be I've just been REAL lucky w/ the mines though....

Do a search on Debris and see what shows up... Search function used correctly can be VEWY VEWY helpful! biggrin.gif

PS, Rattler's been around longer then me so you may want to try his advice first.... wink.gif

About the mines, I have the same problem as Wold. I thought that sending my interceptors minesweeping would increase their skills and AI, but I lost two of them. But the rest of the time, mine are, for me, space decorations.

TIPS (debris field):

1- Stay in field, or the cargo pods will go out of your scanner range (and I mean where you're looking at)

2- When the debris field is empty, do not wait and SAVE your game. It's stupid, but the cargo pods get regenerated after you get back in the game 95% of the time.

WARNING (if ever you need that one):

Before selling your items, whatch if the station is LEGAL or ILLEGAL, and check if you have ILLEGAL items. Those damn violations!

Epsilon, there is a way to instontaneously regenerate cargo pods w/o using playmod or restarting the game. I'll let you mess with it a bit. biggrin.gif

It's not always cool to tease the new guys. It pays to remember that YOU weren't always the seasoned veteran as well.

LOL, yes Rattler, I remember that one...took me what?, a dozen emails to figure out how to "mug" the other guy? Well, maybe not quite a dozen...

Ah, yes, I know why you're teasing me...

YOU ARE INSURGENTS!!

Yes we are! At least we are willing to give you hints, even though you have joined the lemming march. We just may not quite give a straight answer. wink.gif

[rp]***SALUTE*** Yes SIR, Rattler, SIR. I won't tease the new recruit SIR. I'll send an immediate message SIR![/rp]

Sorry Epsilon 5, didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. No pain intended.

BTW, I did post that from work...'course I could have canceled the post... wink.gif

PS. To 'mug' a ship: target the victim, click the BC icon. In the pop-up menu, click current target, click shuttle, click collect cargo. Or something real close to that...Beware, info is from an Insurgent memory. [RP] WARNING: CARGO THEFT IS A SERIOUS OFFENSE. IF Blades catches you.... wink.gif. [/rp]

Is the debris field in the free-flight / roam mode? Or is it just within the ACM?

I don't really consider collecting cargo from space to be a valid trading tactic as it really is just scavenging and only involves trading to sell what you've scavenged.

If only there were a Universe Today newspaper I could pick up while docked to show trading prices at the various stations that day.

So the rule of thumb is to buy a product that the stations specialize in and then sell that product at a place that doesn't. I'll have to print that appendix out to figure out my trading routes.

Guardian

That's basically it. Also need to pay attention to the inflation rating of the stations.

Debris fields are in both modes. In ACM mode there isn't a lot of free time between missions. If you get thumped and don't have time to get to Galcom for free repairs, that debris can save your... wink.gif

BTW, don't take your BC out of the debris field and leave any shuttles or ICs behind. Debris fields tend to collapse when the BC leaves them.... Tends to turn shuttles and ICs into space pizzas. biggrin.gif

Stealing cargo? I already knew that. I noticed that enemy ships will attack armed ships before attacked those who are unarmed (e.g. Shuttles). You don't know how many times I stole some cargo from a bunny ship right in the middle of a battle. Hehehe...

I don't think Blades will care about that.

Tricks about trading:

At the start of the game:

1 - get people on a shuttle, load it with things you don't like.

2 - launch it, and let your bc standing there.

3 - Go to Genesis/Moon and sell your AD items, but not HT.

4 - Buy as much ATV-reactor as you can.

5 - Head back to Galcom HQ

4 - Sell anything that's not AD

6 - Load your shuttle with cloak repair kits and deflector arrays.

7 - Sell them at Genesis

8 - Continue with the ATV-reactor

... and continue like that to be rich and able to upgrade your ship to the max, or further.

Don't use your BC for the operation! The hyperdrive is too slow to recharge and the radine use cost too much.

If you have enough money are is heading for the credian quadrant, buy AD items from galcom (0% inflation/-10% specialty) and sell them at polaris-2 (MN specialty, 40% inflation/+10% non-specialty). This is my #1 trading route, exept for the Lennen/sirius raiders, but armed as you are, that not a problem if you just pass by.

Ok, Episalon, as per orders you get the answer cwm11.gif

While in a debris field, goto tacops, simply zoom to whatever craft is in the field, and zoom the tacops view all the way back out, should cause the cargo pods to replenish.

Guardian:

Not Valid!??!? Isn't the whole idea of trading to get spareparts and extra cash? If you can ge the products for free after someones untimly demise or from the debris field, so much more the profit for you.

ed. note.

the GHQ/Gazer 1 trade runs make more money i believe using the deflector array(?) as cargo. Do a search for this in the tips and tricks, should pull up something. Speaking of which, read through that forum; lots of good stuff there.

Ahh... Using the shuttle? That's a darned good idea. I didn't realize that it didn't use radine. Subtle, yet effective. smile.gif

What I meant is that there is a certain forum that cannot be searched through other than by scanning through the threads manually. I try to keep up on that forum, but it's bare of too much newbie information.

not really, if you know your limits you know when to get out, that and staying near friendly starstaions until you get enough money to replenish the parts, or just sell some nutripacks and combat kits. shoudl be enough to get you started.
