Wow, he asks for advice then gets argumentative about the advice he receives. I'm wondering who the experts are...

Anyway, if you're a GOOD commander, much less a MERCHANT one, you won't need to worry about the enemy kicking your ass. Learn to use the CLOAK effectively, and the safest trading routes.

Plus (hint: check Tips and Tricks), if you're a commander worth your salt, you'd realize that if you sell your spare parts properly, you can end up with one hell of an upgraded BC, which makes it even HARDER for the enemy to get you. In fact, IIRC, you can even FULLY upgrade your BC simply by selling your spare parts. And you can get some radine off to the side.

I believe in Tips and Tricks, Tac has put together one helluva table. If not, check the archives - it's there.

One more tip, commander: don't ask for advice then argue with the pros that give it to you.

[rp]Tsk, tsk, tsk... Blades, I think you need to send him back to basic lemming tactics school...

Rule 1, Galcom has unlimited tax resources. THEREFORE, ALL repairs at Galcom are FREE. They also provide a FREE towing service! Rule 2, Since repairs and towing is FREE, SELL THE PARTS and UPGRADE that BC, remember, that shiney new BC was built by the lowest bidder. Insurgents, DON'T have this luxury. So, new lemming recruits, DON'T WORRY ABOUT SCRATCHING THE PAINT ON THAT NEW BC and GO DO SOMETHING!

The above rules 1 and 2 are paraphrased from Galcom Training Officer, Lem Pflem, also affectionately known as Phlemming Lemming.[/rp] biggrin.gif

Epsilon5, play nice now. They may be our mortal enemies, but they know their stuff. Theres more gaming experience in the Insurgency than the rest of us combined, so pay heed to their good (If questionably motivated) advice and prosper from it.

At least it make us worthy opponents. There are less insurgent commanders than Galcom commanders, but their skill may do the difference.

I'm glad you're alive, so I may kill you therefore.

Rule #2 of the BC universe: outside of RP, we are ALL gamers. In other words, if you're going to bash someone in RP, do it within the RP tags ( [RP] [/RP] ). There has been an instance or two in which someone was banned for not following these guidelines.

So unless you're in RP, you're not an Insurgent, a GALCOMMIE, etc. We're all gamers. Why else do you think Insurgents would help you out?

Well, now you know the rules, and you will have to play by them. Like I said, we're not Insurgents/Galcom in here - only in RP. Believe me, the rules work.

Posted

Epsilon 5, FYI. I don't know if you are aware of this, and I'm not trying to insult you. Aramike is one of the admins of this board. He doesn't, nor does anyone else for that matter, like to see people banned.

Personal attacks are not tolerated on the board and Aramike doesn't want you to unknowingly cross that line. He noticed that you were not making use of the RP markers and wanted to make sure that you understood them.

Without the RP markers comments tend to get taken personally. That leads to flame wars. There are plenty of boards out there that allow flame wars. This is SC's board and he wants a clean board. With BCM and other projects he is running, SC has tasked Aramike and other admins to address things and to make sure the board runs smoothly.

Anyway, on to other things....

LOL, Blades, that's one of the things I like about you, your sense of humor! biggrin.gif If you're really serious I bet I could have some crumpets and tea waiting for you when you get here. Just catch a British Airways flight, hop over the North Pole, land in Anchorage. Give me a ring (as in phone call, number is in the Anchorage area phone book) and I'll come pick you up. biggrin.gif

Would you guys please continue this over at the RPG forum? This is supposed to be a help forum for New Commanders. Thanks.

Actually Thomas, we were helping Epsilon5 get aquainted with the distinction between RP and the rest of the board.

Anyway, back on topic. Tips only in this thread.

Posted

Right!

This forum's for tips, not always for the NEW Commanders though!

Let's call these Rules of The Road for now:

1) Fleet Commanders are supposed to be one of the most knowledgeable of the game up here. How can the Newbie know who they are if they don't put it in their signatures?

2) Common courtesy and decency have always been the trademark of a sound leader and good follower. What ever happened to those traits?

3) I thought personal slogans were done away with quite a while ago? Fleet Slogans are still what I would expect to see. Maybe I missed something while I was away?

4) Admins aren't supposed to have to be reminded to keep a topic on subject.

5) A little light hearted banter is not always bad. Just keep it light, and don't forget those close at hand if you do venture out and throw down the gauntlet. Keeps me from elevated blood pressure unnecessarily.

6) You don't have to like "Uncle Rattler" and you don't even have to always respect him, but it will pay dividends in the long run to sometimes listen to what he has to say.

"Nuff Said!"

Honestly,

I just had questions about trading.

*weep*

Now I'm confused... smile.gif

Thanks all... It's good to see light-heartedness still exists...

Well Guardian,

Spit that question out then. It's still your topic about trading. Don't mind the brass yelling at eat other. ehm, enough to make you weep that is, you should allways pay attention to what the elders say. Like Rattler said. I think the others lost track of themselves and the subject a bit.

Anyway, if there's any question about trading or that link Wold provided (as I made that topic), let's hear it.

Rico,

Actually, I have some questions about other things in the BC universe. You've all been very forthcoming with the information and I appreciate it greatly.

I'll start some new threads after doing a little more research.

Is there a newbie FAQ for the BC Universe? If not, why? I know the forums are a wonderful resource, but I'm sure that you guys hate answering the same common questions over and over again. A gameplay FAQ would go a long way.

Sorry for going off topic...

You might have a good idea. So far, we only have a Technical support FAQ, but still for now the search function is your best friend.

Gameplay FAQ? There should be something like that. It's more like a list of tips. Alot. But you're right. I can't find it either anymore. Strange.

Maybe the others have any idea. I remember some kind of bc3ktips.txt or .html file. Anybody?

Actually, an HTML or .txt file was never put together to the best of my knowledge.

However, check the archive section of this board, and you may like what you find. wink.gif

Never mind that. The archive was deleted. Darn.

bc3ktips.txt

It's quite old (01-19-99) so the entries may be affected by patches or added features. You'll have to check it with the Version Control File downloadable in the downloads section. I hope this helps for you.

Wonderful resources!

Thanks so much! It's giving me a lot to try out. I haven't yet had the chance to upgrade anything yet, so I'll start my first mining mission tonight!

Thanks again!

Seeing as how I'm trying to make myself known, I'll try to offer some trading advice...

Mars and Saturn stations in Sol (Terran/Military) have inflated prices. Saturn's inflation is about 140% or so...

A ship that is large and can protect itself is enough to trade with.

Debris fields offer quick item grabs. Don't miss 'em.

And, as always, like everyone recommends, check your illegal items. Don't go waltzing into a station that hates them...

That is all...
