Acooring to EB games, BCM ships on 6/18/01

Today is 6/11/01

7 days?

keep this alive until 6/18/01

(Feels like the countdown until 2000)

Have you preordered your copies? EB will run out of copies very soon(i think).

If EB runs out of copies:

a. Poor marketing for not ordering enough

b. CD duplicators at SC's headquarters are overworked and thus breakdown from selling too may copies

c. SC got tired of counting all the money

he makes and momentarily halts production

I'm actually not looking at any release date. When it's done, it will be done. It looks like the team is really close, but more than anything, I want SC to be totally and completely satisfied that the game is ready to be released. He's double and triple checked everything, and he's happy. If that means it's released mid July, then so be it.

(I actually want to upgrade my system to play the game, so the extra time I can use to sell anything of value to the highest bidder. I should get a good $0.75)

Yep. And from where I'm sitting, the EB page hasn't been updated yet. Yes, it IS getting done in June folks (all things being equal), but until its done, it ain't done. So, quit the countdown, unless you want to keep correcting it.

I'll be honest, the game looks like it's really coming along!!! I check the Ver control file every day and it really looks great. I can be patient, that's not a problem, but I am salivating!

Ditto for me on that VCF. I sure wish that some of those WIP issues second section from the bottom would get "retired" though. I'm sure SC's nailed some chunk of them and the way they just sit there makes me nervous...

Hey, we had the chance to be in the Beta test, and we didn't take it. We could have been talking to the SC directly about the WIP stuff, we're not. We could be... oh you get my drift.

I use that list so that the testers can keep track of what not to harrass me for.

Everything for the game is in. All we're doing now is general crunch mode clean-up, bug fixes (very few left, as you can tell, and mostly obscure ones) and wrapping up WIP items. In fact, I expect to promote most of that WIP section in the next 2-3 updates. I just released another VCF update to go with today's Beta release.

Its coming...fast!

I'm eagerly awaiting it! BCM will be better than sex!

Hey, wait, I'm still a teenager. Replace the last word with 'a Ferrari'... and don't quote me on it, either.

(For some reason, I picture a BCM Cult... people worshipping the game box and offering ritual sacrifices of other space simulations.)

As if we bother.

[ducks and sprints towards an airlock]

Seriously though, Everyone is putting forth their best effort.

Cool! I was wondering what that was about. Glad to hear things are at that point already.

*very relieved*

Yeah, I admit I was really tempted to join. But I write software for a living, and at the end of the day the LAST thing I want to do is test someone else's, no matter how cool it is. I'd rather enjoy it finished than not enjoy finishing it.

According to EBgames.com - Battlecruiser Millenium ships on July 2, 2001 - which as we all know that means the game will be that much more bug free, and that many more issues fixed, and that much more time for packaging and shipping so that everything will be neat and tidy. I looked at the smoking specs for BCM and, working very hard for these last couple of months, after bills, and such, I am upgrading my computer to come close. My current Specs are 300mhz PII, 64MB of RAM, Voodoo5 5500 3dfx, 8gb hard drive, and Windows 98. Now to meet this growing threat to my systems performance... (I know this game is gonna kick ass ) I have now saved up enough money to make my system specs look like this :

[*]1ghz PIII

[*]256 MB of RAM

[*]40 GB Hard Drive

[*]Windows 2000 Pro

[*]and the same Voodoo5 5500

So the longer this game is put back, the longer I have to beef up my system... Mwah hahaha ....

I was worried I wasn't gonna have enough time to get the money to upgrade in time

I did not had the chance, my system does not meet the min requirement, but I WILL BE IN THE GCO BETA FOR SURE! or I'll kill myself.

Yeah, I want that WOW factor that only comes from being stunned at something you've never seen before. I really applaud every beta tester for getting with the program, you're hard work is going to make my BCM experience ROCK.

My big problem now is that it looks like the release is going to be right smack dab in the middle of a huge project I'm on. I will have NO time for my own life, let alone games. Ah, life. Actually an August release would be perfect for me. How bout it guys! Guys?

Whoa. Not the star flight. Your getting carried away Seriously, that was an awesome game, but I didn't know they had a version 2. Too late to play it now. Nothing compared to SF in immersiveness, but BC.

I quite the quake series because I realized the true cost of the games included the necessary upgrade. I am still at dual celeron 366 right now. But BCM has inspired me again to dump out the doe for new hardware. my fantasy specs.

1 GHz T-Byrd

512 MB Cas2 RAM > practically free

Windows ME.

I could go win98, but I guess its safe to go with ME these days. I got a 2000 box, and I wont do that for a True gaming box like this will be...

ON the video card, it may be time to send a message to NVidia about the prices I am willing to pay. I am looking for alternatives to the Geforce. Anyone?

Also, what happened to the 6? other demos that were to be released before the Gold edition?

First off, if you care about old DOS games, don't go Win ME!

Win ME doesn't support DOS games at ALL. If your like me, you want the freedom to play whatever the hell you want, whenever you want wait for Win XP. Allegedly, Win XP offers this freedom. Word has it that it will play DOS games hassle free. I'll see it when I believe it but if it's true, I'm skipping Win ME.

Secondly, I wish there was an alternative to Gforce, but alas, I doubt that there is. I have owned ATI cards in the past, and as much as I would love to boost a Canadian company, their drivers SUCK!!!! If anyone out there wants to argue that the Radeon drivers are better, I'll hear them out, but NVidia has such a stellar rep with drivers (well, at least better than ATI) I'd stick with them. My big fear is that once NVidia realizes that they have no serious competition, they'll get lazy and put out crap drivers. Until that time comes, stick with them I say. (This coming from a Voodoo 3 owner!)

I don't want to pay $$$.$$ for a GForce 3, but I'm going to. If you don't want to pay that much, go for a GForce 2. From what I hear, the drivers are rock solid, and any developer worth their weight in discarded silicone is working with NVidia so that their games shine on that card.

I just wish 3DFX didn't screw up so bad that they vanished off the playing field, that's all.

(Rant mode off)

And PS, it ain't just the Quake series, all software, at all times in the history of computing have become bigger, and more demanding. I like to fool myself occasionally by telling myself that a 1 Gig processor is the fastest that I will ever need. Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha! Hooooooo boy, I wish that were true. Then it'll be 2 Gig, then 5, then whatever. I'll just be very happy after they've made the move from processing information with electrons to photons to quarks, and realize that they really can't get any smaller. Moore's law will be dead and I'll be able to stop with this insane upgrade path every freakin year! On that day gentlemen, I will be a happy man.

(Of course they'll come up with some kind of sub-quark alternate universe computer that measures speed in how many alternate universes the quarks in your processor taps into. By then, hopefully I'll be dead, and my grand children will have to deal with it all! )
