With BCM shipping next week and the demo due out soon, I figured I'd get this thread started. Since nobody here has the game yet, maybe the Beta testers remember their own war stories from the Beta, and can post them.

Anyway here goes:

This happened like ten minutes ago, which is what gave me the idea in the first place.

I had parked my CC next to Starpath and had left it in fp mode to go and fight some hostile space force marines who had been beamed over to the top of the station by some

ship I couldn't see (was probably cloaked).

So, after egressing the CC, I flew over to the station whose own marines were in combat against the hostiles. So, I just joined in.

Several minutes later, all the hostiles were dead. Then, firing up mode 3 of my DIE, I scanned for targets and saw the hostile ship decloaking.

Without even thinking, I fired up Tacops and ordered the CC to my location. When it stopped, I flew toward it and just as I was about to dock with it, I collided with it and I my magnetic shoes stuck on it, allowing me to walk on it.

Just then, the *wildest* thing happened. I think my CC started to move!! The next thing I know, its moving very fast and I was still on top if it (still stuck to it of course). I went to the ext cam view - and believe me, the feeling was just absolutely mind boggling. There was this craft hurtling through space with ME attached to the top of it!!

...guess what, while it was flying, I could STILL run, walk, go prone etc. Absolutely amazing.

Then I got back in the CC and realized that it was on PATROL profile, which explained why it had stopped a few moments and then sped off again.

So, after seeing this, I decided to go out and do it intentionally. I got up top, stuck to the ship and then gave it the patrol order. This time, because the next jump anomaly was very far away, it had to hyperjump to it. As soon as it engaged hyperdrive, it threw me off. (all personnel attached to ships will fall off if they enter hyperspace, leave the region or enter a planet) and there I was, floating in space again.

I guess you had to be there.

I a had creepy moment in BCM Beta. I was sitting there in a heavy cruiser. Every once in a while static appeared on my MFD's and my officer said "There's something out there." Awhile later, I targeted a carrier attacking the station in the region I was in and had it on an external view. After the ship made a pass on the station, I actually saw it cloak and all the fighters that were attacking it couldn't find it anymore. At this moment there were no enemies on the radar. All of a sudden the computer said I was being targeted by an enemy yet there was no enemies on the radar. This made me think that the cloaked Carrier that was attacking the station must have started going after me. There was nothing I could do but wait in suspense wondering when the attack would come. A few suspenseful minutes pass with my hand over the afterburner and retrorocket keys to dodge incoming fire, and shields raised as high as they could go. That same carrier earlier that was attacking the station was now uncloaked and still attacking the station. In a few moments, the station blew it up. I though that that was the end of the cloaked threat BUT I noticed that I was still experiencing static and my officer still said something was out there. Cycleing through the radar, I happened to catch a glimpse of an enemy shuttle. It was heading to a big Stormcarrier Supercarrier! It must have been cloaked since I could not detect it on the radar. Well, so much for me thinking the cloaked threat was over, there were actually 2 cloaked ships not one! Since the first cloaked ship was attacking the station and got blown up it ment that it was the huge Stormcarrier that must have targeted me. Oh great, now I have the largest ship ever made with 12 fighters in its hull, cloaked, and after me. Next thing I know, that cloaked Stormcarrier transported 5 enemy marines into my cargo bay to steal my loot which I plundered from passing by enemy transports! What I did next was ...RUN... at least I could outrun that slow behemoth so I jumped out of the system.

You could deploy crab mines...but you have no way of carrying them on your person.

Whilst I was applying some finishing touches on my still incomplete IACM I became extremely cocky during the mission playtest phase. To Wit

Premise is simple - I swipe a CC (BCMkII) from GHQ and hightail it outta the area before the cav comes a calling. There are many that come a calling too.

Slowly, one by one I DeD the cav until there is only Galcom HQ, Genesis, and the two ODS platforms left in earthz. So I gets a real wild one up me back side and target the ODS orbiting the Earth, press shift+9 and hyper on over.

Only problem was that I forgot how long the transition time from HJ to normal space takes. Needless to say my CC was decimated by the ODS before I could move my CC or activate the cloaking system. There was not a system left on my CC greater than 50% and several systems were either destroyed (CB1, Transporter, Fighter Bays, FCs, etc.) or severely damaged (reactor, shields, armor, computer systems, etc.). All decks were radiated, 1/2 of my SEs and FEs were terminated, Pilots left their stations (and could not be reassigned anywhere). Basically the SAS was red and I was up the creek without the preverbial paddle.

I couldn't HJ anywhere - engine damage > 75% (nasty thing there SC ) - so I launched a SC after assigning a marine to it (who said jarheads were stupid?) and had it tow my CC to Gazer1 in Pluto.

Needless to say the rest of the mission was hairy. Trying to fix one's CC at the same time fighting off some very PO's Galcom forces was very exciting.

Never once did I think about quiting and starting over. Took me 6 missions (12 game hours) to get my CC, FCs, and SCs completely repaired. Now that was fun

Reading the stories that SC, LordDavid, and Gallion posted make me giddy all over...

As-f**kin'-if you can do stuff like that (or should I say stuff like that happen) in BCM... simply put, it's amazing!

One time I took a Super Carrier to Arima. Tulon launched its usuall swarm of flies at me. At that time, I was still use to my fully updated MK2. So I want into fly swatting mode. When after the first swarm was decimated, the calvery came a callen, and no, it wasn't for my benefit.

As I continued my exterminating duties, I noticed my shields were starting to take a beating. Then it hit me that I was now using a standard shield generator.

By the time I figured it was time to take cover, it was already too late. As the shields fell, the insect vermon then started to peel the armor away from my hull.

As I made a break for the worm hole, back to Alpha Centauri, a peskie missle struck its mark, and took my engines with it.

Well needless to say, when all was said and done, I was left with a burning hull, that was drifting at a rate of 25kph. Shields, Engines, Main Computer, Main Reactor, all Life Support were all off-line; and most of my cargo, gone. Half of my SE's were dead, the other half, Glowing as green as can be. My now green chief engineer managed to restore Life Support,a but that was as far as he got before submitting to the deadly raidiation found on Deck 3, and made his way to an overwhelmed sick bay.

So beings everybody else started glowing including myself, I decided to take a space walk with hopes of getting away from the glow. When I got out into the vastness of space, I started looking around at the situation. I had noticed that the damn raiders no longer seen me as a threat and broke off the attack. All I could do was watch helplessly as my ship, once proud and mighty, limped ever so closer to the worm hole.

Well needless to say, before I actually found out the fate of me and my crew, I had to leave and save the game. Since this was the end of the month, by time I got back to play, the current beta patched had expired, and installing the next one in line, killed the game file.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, and as the SC has said, You had to be there.

Hey all,

I'd like to make a request for MORE STORIES! Some of the one's I've heard on this topic thus far are fantastic, they make the imagination go absolutely wild.

So this is a clarion call to the beta testers out there who are now free to speak. Tell us more War Stories!

Shardik, do you really wanna listen to all these old folks talk about "back-in-the-day", when they were in their prime?

(j/k)

More! Especially from you BCM Beta Testers! I wanna see what kind of stuff you've come up with!

A long time ago in a beta now far away ...

I decided to take on a Star Station when the SC activated the station turrets and the beam weapons in the early days of the beta. Mind ye now, up till then we were finding and squashing many a bug but it was becoming somewhat repetitive checking the same thing(s) over and over again after each patch release.

Having read but not believing what the SC put in the VCF regarding beam weapons and how tough the stations were now I says to meself, "self - let's see how much smack the SC is talking about these here stations".

So I SNG, etc. and head for the nearest hostile star station. Found the puppy (Pixan) and started to give it the ol' what for - or so I thought. Now the SC spenyt some time pecking awayat the keyboard updating the VCF but did I care about that? Nooooooooooooo! I was gonna take that station out just like I did in BC3K a plethora of times.

So I gets Pixan in the CVD and do the hyperjump thing. A couple of minutes latter the HJ ended and I watched in horror as my shields and armor levels went from full to nil in a matter of seconds. Needless to say them stations with those really long reach beam weapons stashed inside them turrets were/are just as tough as what was written in the VCF. Oh, I forgot to add - my CC DeD real blooming quick. Never got within 60km of the station.

Moral of the story - never doubt what is written in the VCF and remember to ************** *************** before taking on them stations again.

Ah yes those were the days.. In BC3k when you could take on any station .. Your only worry was getting caught in the hail of PTA fire..

heh, this one was pretty funny and it happened just the other day.

Here I was, running around in release mode (not debug) checking to see how long anyone could survive in a military base. I was killing NPC after NPC as if they were skittles.

So, I ran out of ammo. What?!? So, I look at my mini HUD for the waypoint to the nearest supply station, and made a beeline for it.

Knowing that NPCs didn't have jetpacks and that they had to go around buildings (assuming they don't decide to go right thru them as they use to. dumb asses) I jetpacked over the building and landed near the station. After I got through healing myself (trust me, the first time you use a station to heal your injuries, you'll piss yourself laughing. Just wait ), grabbing ammo etc, I stepped off the ramp and made a beeline for where I last heard the NPCs. There I was running and as soon as I made a left turn at the solar plant, I ran smack into an entire squad of about 8 of them. Knowing I was going to die, I backtracked and went in the other direction - then I hit the dirt and went prone.

Just then, the squad chasing me came around the corner, guns blazing....firing directly into another squad coming in the opposite direction.

If you have ever watched Willie Coyote come around a corner, hells digging into the dirt and screeching.....just before he falls off a cliff, then you get the idea. It was hilarious.

Once they figured out what was going on, and stopped firing, I now had about ten of them making a beeline for me. As soon as I hit the jetpack button, one of them fired an LR12 rocket at me....of course, I didn't know about this....until I hit the F9 camera button so that I could see where they were. And saw the LR12 homing in on my jetpack exhaust.

I tell you, seeing yourself die in midair is truly hilarious.

So the NPCs can accidently ff each other? Cool! And SC, if you turned off your jetpack, would the missile lose its tracking? (well, then you'd have to worry about falling to your death )

1. uhm, if you are firing and someone ducks, take a wild guess what will happen.

2. the missile has nothing to do with my jetpack. Its a homing missile. Whether I turn off the jetpack or not, once its got a lock, it will maintain that lock until it self-destructs. Like you, NPCs can fire it in dumb fire or locked mode.

3. You can turn off your jetpack and not fall to your death immediately, depending on how high you are flying. Besides, some idiot is going to deplete his jetpack charge at 5K feet and be writing letters back home as he falls to his death...assuming his jetpack doesn't charge up quickly before he goes *splat*.

Lol!! That reminds me of the time when my wife told me (if i ever run into some money) not to buy those backpack helicopters found on the gadgetshop which costs around 20,000 pounds. I was mucking about on the net where I found this amazing site that sells all manner of weird gadgets. But the helicopter backpack really caught my eye.

This isn't so much a war story as a warning to all........

I was flying around in my BK MKIII and decided to go planetside, looking in tacops I found an Naval fleet on the planet and I thought I'd have a look so set a waypoint for just above the fleet and started my descent.

Preparing fighters and raising shields and stuff I was ready if something went wrong(I thought I was anyway) I got the lovely Planet entry screen and then the bridge viewer screen reappeared again, and within seconds I was pounded to within an inch of my life. I quickly switch to external cam just in time to see my BC getting pummled from the planet. Returning to the bridge I checked my losses. Almost 50% of systems were below 30% with a good few destroyed. I had lost 3 IC's and all my shuttles and ATV's. My engine was destroyed and my BC was starting to drop like a lead pidgeon.

After about a minute the BC hit the sea and I abandoned ship but being so far out to sea there was little chance of swimming to land. So I just swam around for a little while.

In all my BC was probably hit for a little over 10 seconds, i had my shields up and was a good height up but I still got pounded so a warning to all BCM is a lot harder

Emmett, that is where those OTS missiles can REALLY come in handy, soften em up, then take them!!!
