Joel Schultz Posted October 23, 2001 Report Posted October 23, 2001 Does anyone here own a Belkin Nostromo? It got a good review at AVault, and given Battlecruiser's heavy reliance on the keyboard I wonder if it could help some... Then again, BC(M) has twenty gazillion keystrokes so it may be a little much even for it.
Soback Posted October 23, 2001 Report Posted October 23, 2001 The more keys to press, the more commands you can issue, the more commands you can issue the more you can do with the game. Also it's not like you have to memorize them all, there's a nice key sheet included with the game.
Supreme Cmdr Posted October 23, 2001 Report Posted October 23, 2001 Joel, I hate to break this too you - but you can play BCM without EVER touching the keyboard. Try it sometime, you might just like it.

Epsilon 5 Posted October 23, 2001 Report Posted October 23, 2001 And I prefer this, because it feels more like a joystick and you have the possibly of having nearly 150 functions at a time... including using one of the hats as a mouse (GOOD thing for BCM and fighter games)good reviews : Game Revolution Joystick review CDmag 3D gaming world[ 10-23-2001: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]
Joel Schultz Posted October 24, 2001 Author Report Posted October 24, 2001 quote:Joel, I hate to break this too you - but you can play BCM without EVER touching the keyboard. Try it sometime, you might just like it. Undoubtedly . But agree with Epsilon 5; all else being equal the fastest mouse-clicker in BCM or any game can be beat by a guy with a mouse + keyboard (especially true in RTS games). Two input devices vs. one = twice the command input rate, combine with not having to go through hierarchical mouse menus = better than twice the command input rate? That Saitek rig is a little too locked into flight-sim. IMHO Nostromo would seem to do better in other game genres as well.[ 10-23-2001: Message edited by: Joel Schultz ]
Captain He-Man Posted October 27, 2001 Report Posted October 27, 2001 Jeez man.. flight sticks???If you can play the game with out ever touching the keyboard, can you also play it without going near a joystick??All I got by way of game controllers is a Gravis Xterminator digial gamepad (and I think Gravis has stopped making those.. it's no longer on their website. )... would that be sufficient? Thanks, Capt. HM.[ 10-27-2001: Message edited by: Captain He-Man ]
Epsilon 5 Posted October 30, 2001 Report Posted October 30, 2001 Well in the first demo I couln't make the joystick work (the darn plug)... and it's feasible, as long as you stay with cap ships.
vogelap Posted November 20, 2001 Report Posted November 20, 2001 I've got a Belkin Nostromo and would recommend it highly. However, I haven't played BCM on it just yet, so cannot comment on that. One feature of the Nostromo that will be nice for BCM is the ability to SHIFT keysets -- each key on the keypad can be assigned THREE different values, and the user can select between those sets. The Nostromo is worth a buy.
