Rosko Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 For us gamers, it all looks very quiet here on the game front, but SC's new soapbox shows us how hectic things are behind the scenes!! I'm just glad I'm the gamer and not the developer ....a lot less stressful from the sounds of it Well done SC, for keeping us informed!! Post you're thought's about the soapbox here!!
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 ...you have no idea. That was just the condensed version.
jstuart Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 Maybe something more appropiate top the Sc and developing this product might be; "The long and winding road" I think that was a song by some chaps over in England!SC, for what you have accomplished with BCM, so far for what I have seen; Words alone can not say how thankful we should be!
Rip Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 Great soapbox, and I wouldn't want you to be any other way!Two things really caught my eye.1. Had to fire the guy who was supposed to do the manual, Man I feel for you. To think after the monumental task of designing the game, and you couldn't even get someone to realiably and honestly write the manual. Tough pill to swallow.2. The mention of Wizardry 8 and that other independent developer. No doubt Sir-Tech. Would love to here what SC has to say about that company and their situation. I've been a longtime fan of the Jagged Alliance series and hate to think it will be no more.
Scrivener Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 SC, I had no idea. *weeps* I love you, man. Give ol' Scriv a hug!
Epsilon 5 Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: ...you have no idea. That was just the condensed version.Does that mean you'll do a book with the extended info? The making of the game

Supreme Cmdr Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Does that mean you'll do a book with the extended info? The making of the game...am already working on a book. And have been for almost three years.
Hunted Posted November 6, 2001 Report Posted November 6, 2001 okay lemme get thsi str8t, the game was already to ship but something went wrong with the install shield so they have to recopy everything.......?......that sucks SC, i'm sorry man, damnit why don't everybody on this board all take a vacation with the Sc togeteher...CANCUN WOOT WOOT!
Rosko Posted November 7, 2001 Author Report Posted November 7, 2001 A book??? sounds like a stratgey guide someone will really buy!! lol *point at all the BC loyal fans*
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Rosko: A book??? sounds like a stratgey guide someone will really buy!! lol *point at all the BC loyal fans* No. An autobiography
Cmdr Nova Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 Cool. Then we'd really see what makes The Man tick. Autobiographies are always cool; I mean, who knows the subject better than the subject itself? (Then again, I confuse myself three times out of five....)
Guest dnoyeB! Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 Soapbox bah. Its all propaganda!j/kIt was an interesting read and I was thinking, dang. I mean, sometimes you do something yourself and you know you can do it, but you know its a lot of work. Like dropping an engine. But once you do it, then you "really" know its a lot of work.I will never change a ball joint on my car anymore. I know I can. But I concluded its a repair worth the $300 bucks...Thats about how I felt after reading the soapbox. Of course once you pay someone else, you are faced with the much worse situation of seeing the finished product inferior to what you would have done yourself...
tagos Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 Hi SCJust read your excellent soapbox, thanks for keeping us informed. I've had BCM on order for weeks now and log on each evening hoping for notification of order depatch but somehow manage resist the urge to "thqweem and thqeem until I am thick in the face."Anyone who has followed your dev of this game know how hard you've been working on it and know you are absolutely dedicated to producing the greatest space sim ever and then improving it. Can't understand why morons waste your time complaining about a couple of weeks delay. We've all been shafted by half-finished games with joke manuals around Xmas time and i'm sure I speak for the vast majority of BCM anticipators when I say we appreciate the extra effort you are putting in to produce good documentation. Good things come to those who wait and we're happy to wait because we know BCM is going to be stunning.Jeez, its not as if there aren't other games to play, or, dare I say it, a real world out there to interact with.
johnstarkill Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 Thanks for the update SC!I know it has helped alleviate a lot of concern everyone has had. I myself have camped my email waiting for the glorious SHIPPED message, but I haven't been too worried with the delay. I know the type of dedication to perfection you exhibit. I too use the same methodology when I work on my Fantasy Novel (My first attempt at a complete epic)The way I see it, the extra time just gives me more opportunity to harrass my friends on the Glories of Battlecruiser. I have lost count of how many pics I've emailed people from your screen shots section with messages attached like "The Ultimate Game has finally arrived!", "Must get and see if we to can crash and sink our ships in the ocean!"What I'm saying is to forget the imbecels who are shortsighted enough to harrass you about delays. Your true fans are and always will be here on your side. and if i can do anything about it .... soon the whole world will chant SC! SC! SC!
Rosko Posted November 7, 2001 Author Report Posted November 7, 2001 quote:No. An autobiography An autobiography........wow,.....hey SC, make sure you mention how annoying all us fans are here, jumping around you're feet like jack rabbits trying to get answers!! If you do release it, it would be an interesting read!!
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 Thanks for the support folks. Anyway, once you get the game and see the materials, you will really appreciate the fact that I decided to invest a little more time in making sure that it was done right. At the end of the day, if I'm going to charge you guys $50 for a game, why would I want to skimp on the quality? After all, my money, as everyone knows, goes right back into my company and games. I don't need to have it sitting in a bank doing nothing because every $1 I invest in getting something done right, is $2 am gonna get back from you folks in the long run.Its called cultivation.
Urza Posted November 7, 2001 Report Posted November 7, 2001 A very interesting soapbox, SC. Hmmm, and the autobiography sounds good, too. Do you know what the title's going to be yet?
Rosko Posted November 8, 2001 Author Report Posted November 8, 2001 SC is paving the way for how a computer game should be done, the profits should go to the developer, after all itÔÇÖs the devÔÇÖs baby!! I personally have never in my life seen a game anywhere near the quality & size of what youÔÇÖre up coming titles promise. And further more, I have never seen an independent dev game that goes past a desktop theme(not that theirs anything wrong with that,(oh if anyone wants to correct me on this, IÔÇÖm listening) )!!!! You deserve the praise you get Derek!!

Once I settle on a final title, I'll let everyone know.
JPNZ Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 'Derek Smart : They didn't see him coming.' Good title SC, and one that fits you I might add. Now when do we start the book countdown?
Soback Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 You need to add "... untill it was too late."

I am leaning closer to Derek Smart : They never saw this comingAs for the countdown - well, I've been working on the book off and on for a while now, so the countdown should've started about two years or so ago. But, lets hold off on that until it actually gets the publisher. [ 11-08-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
