I was originally gonna buy the game when it came out but I had no money and things came up so...

would it still be worth it to get the game now or would I be to far behind?

You'll be about as far behind as the snail stuck to the back of a lorry going down the motorway.

Once you've bought it, just use the update patches to bring it up to date. It's up to you though coz BCM gold will be out soon, although existing BCM owners get a discount (I think).

Some corrections:

1. BCM Gold is not coming out soon. It seemed like a good idea at the time (a publisher was talking me into doing it in order to appease the retailers who were pissed over the EB exclusive on BCM). It was only supposed to be BCM + all patches + a few things + multiplayer built-in.
   
2. Fact is, a lot of things are going on behind the scenes and that makes BCM Gold a waste of time and money to put it back into retail - especially with BCG speeding along.
   
3. BCM Gold was to be priced at $19.99 and there never was a discount planned for BCM owners. Why would I want to do that? Considering the price?
   
4. If anything, BCM Gold will probably just end up being a CD only upgrade for existing BCM owners who want it and which can be purchased either from EB or from us (via BMT Micro).
   
5. Until it stops selling, we will continue to master and ship the original BCM units.
   

There should be an announcement sometime next week about all this.

And you would be soooooo missing out, friend. Go buy BCM and knock yourself out! Sure BCG will be better in every way, but you are missin out on the best dollars you ever spent on a computer game. BCM Gold or no, its still the best and most in-depth game you'll find. Trust me! I have a lower GPA to prove it!

I agree, just buy BCM. I have this game going on my other machine daily. When I have time to pay attention to it, I love to play it.

I have to admit to being a bit miffed about my confusion over the product line. Sounds like BCMG will be an upgrade for BCM owners, maybe. I'm not worried, I can wait for BCG, but would gladly pay the $20 for BCMG. I got into BCM for $30 anyway, so I figure I owe Derek $20. It is a truely awesome game, and nowhere will you find this kinds of attention to detail and quality in other developers. I mean, Derek returns e-mails! That is rare for a game developer, esp. one as busy and Derek.

For the persistent online universe, I'll wait for BCOL. I have read up on freelancer, and it is really a fraction of what Chris intended. Eve may be another story, wait and see. I'll pass on earth and beyond, not impressed at all. There is the X universe, but I am pretty bored with X-Tension now. Being able to land on planets and get out of my vehicles is a big plus for BCM. There are so many dimensions to BCM, you really can't go back to the other games, they are too boring. I did try Jumpgate's persistent universe, big problem with them is no auto-pilot navigation system. I literally have to take my slow spacecraft over vast distances just to complete a mission, manually. I like BCM because I can setup a course, engage autopilot and continue working, not having to hand-hold my BattleCruiser at it makes it's way to the destination.

Lastly, I enjoy the music, that is a big part of gaming for me. Music has to be good, like HomeWorld, Total Annihilation, and IceWind Dale. That composer is awesome. BCM is more techno, but it is good techno music.

To be or Not to be, that is the question. My 2 cents are this. BCM Gold, at this point in the game, should just be a no-frills CD that existing BCM owners could buy online at Electronics Boutique, and $20 for me seems reasonable, especially for multiplayer.

Sales would be directed toward only existing BCM owners and whatever stragglers we could pick up online. That might be a good source of income for the duration of time between now and when BCG comes in.

When BCG comes out, assuming persistent universe is ready, then a nominal charge of $10/month for multiplayer and saving your character on BCG servers scattered throughout the US. By that time, the economy will be back, hopefully, and the BC universe will grow with it. Multiplayer bugs will have been worked out with BCMG and the only hurdle would be the persistent universe component, i.e. the database.
