Save Game Problems (false alarm)

I have the game (legitimate copy from EB), and absolutely LOVE it!! Truly magnificent.

But, I have a small problem.

I have scanned the forum and not found anything similar, so here goes.....

Game ran great out of the box. Except for that part where I frequently died, but I'm getting over that. I saw the patch and patched, saw that I needed DX 8.1, got it, good to go. The game loaded fine, and I attempted to restart me feeble carreer. I got this windows pop-up error:

FATAL ERROR:

.SAV file format error.

I thought that it was because the save was pre-patch, so I deleted (no great loss), and started again. I actually survived for a "while", until my wife threatened gun fire if I did not come to dinner and carve the turkey. But, I digress.

At any rate, when I started the game again and attempted to resum/restore, I get the same message with the post patch save. I can play instant action etc., and start a new game, just can't load saves.

Any ideas?

i got that too. But I figured since my save wasn't that strong anyways. It would be easier to start all over. I did, Saved the new game, and it is loading now.

The patch was supposed to delete all existing saved games. The file format is obsolete, as indicated in the VCF.

Just go into the SAVE folder and delete everything.

Dunno why it didn't work on your end, but as far as I know, the patch does delete them....unless you applied the patch from the desktop - which you SHOULD NOT DO for EXACTLY that reason (it won't find the correct path to your install folder).

I figured it was something simple that I screwed up.

I did it as you said SC, and the game is working flawlessly again.
