Crush7100 Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 Just wondering about a situation I been having. Running a terran mercenary out of Idan in Zilon. After a little while was selling some cargo and noticed some of the stations inventory was at a negative value. Ran a search of the forum but didnt find anything related. Not something important just a bother when it happens to be an item I trade in. Happen to anybody else?
Guest MIKE113 Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 Just started playing with the RC23 and RC30 patches and I have noticed the same thing. Also if I sell an item (1) to a station that has that item(1) the one I sell it disappears and the one it had also. Strange.
Fractux Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 I noteiced this as well, but i wasn't sure what it was. I thought maybe it had to do with demand or somehting. Can anyone explain?

Supreme Cmdr Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 If you have a saved game with a station that has negative inventory, send that saved game to [email protected]

Guest MIKE113 Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 OK, files sent again under different e-mail.
Supreme Cmdr Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Forgot to reply to this. Anyway, I got 'em but by that time, I'd already looked at the code and determined that negative inventory has been supported in all previous BC games - but it never became a problem because it was hard to deplete a station's resources. In BCM however, due to how the resupply works and due to the ability to siege stations etc, this can happen (as you have discovered). Its not dangerous and in fact, in modern day applications, inventory can be negative to indicate how many of an item are needed. e.g. -5 means you need 5 more. BUT because the BCM inventory system does not have the concept of restocking items based on demand, a negative inventory looks odd. For this reason, in the next patch, the inventory amount will be clamped to zero if it ever goes below zero. But in BCO - which will have a brand new supply and demand enconomy system, it might be re-instated again. So, its not a bug. It works as designed.
