Just got BCM Gold a few weeks ago and I've got to tell you it's an amazing leap from the last time I picked up a battlecruiser title which was BC3K 1.0.

I've only had a few minor problems in that time and most of them I've found ways to work around it, but I've found a few repeatable items that I could find no info on in the VCF, the manual, or here. I'll start with the easy ones

The manual says that Personnel Qts 2 holds 40, which makes sense as the largest crews have 20 sys engineers and 20 flight engineers. But try starting a new game with a firestorm class carrier and send all your engineers off duty. 10 of them will be stuck in deck 1 aft corridor. Take any 10 of those who made it to their quarters and put them back on duty, the 10 stuck in the corridor will go right on in.

Posted

Thats not true. Its hold 40 and I just confirmed it.

If they are being re-assigned by the CE, then they won't remain off-station. Or they can't get there etc etc

Figure out whats going on in your ship and fix it. Just because it looks odd, doesn't mean there is something wrong. Don't post about it unless you have many EVERY effort to analyze, think about and rationalize the issue.

In fact, do this

  1. SNG and choose Firestorm
  2. Go to Tactical and send all Sys and Flt engineers off duty
  3. Launch
  4. Go to Perscan

They're all there and in the right place

Posted

Ah, I see the problem!

Try this sequence instead:

1. SNG, but don't change the crew assignments.

2. Launch

3. Let the default 10 sys and 10 flight engineers go on duty.

4. take the 10 sys engineers off duty, wait for them to get the their quarters.

5. Now take the 10 flight engineers off duty and watch them... they should stop at deck 1 aft corridor.

You can also try putting the 10 sys engineers back on duty and watch as the flight engineers all proceed to their quarters.

It seems that the initial launch of a new game is the exception to this. As the engineers all start in per qts 2 they will stay there if ordered but as soon as they leave they won't all go back in. I tried the sequence you mentioned and confirmed this.

This is normal because the system requires a certain number of them to be on duty at all times.

By the time you launch, an AI tick has already occured and this instruction already set.

But, I will check it again to make sure no funny business is going on.

EDIT: Nope. works fine. In fact, if you send all 10 SysEngs off-duty and go to Perscan, you should see that another 10 gets auto-assigned immediately.

OK. A ticket has been opened in Area 51 for further investigation.

EDIT: Storage increased to 40. It was set to 30 to match Personnel Qtrs 1 and because there never was a situation where you'd want everyone off duty. Now what was I thinking?

Well, there is a snag with this. All previous saved games will be invalid.

So, before I release this patch, I'm going to decide whether or not allowing 40 personnel instead of 30 in Personnel Qtrs 2 is worth the loss of a previous saved game.

I don't know if it's worth it.. I've never had to have more than half my crew go off duty at the same time.

I think it's worth it. I often have all my crew on duty for a major expedition into enemy territory or run a dangerous trade route and afterwards I set down on a planet and let them all take a little vacation while I go do something else.

I don't think the price is worth it either. So, I may just rollback this fix and just have it in BCG.

You can rotate them. From the looks of the bang up saved game you gave me, it doesn't look like you are playing the game the way it was meant to be played. If I ever have a ship that banged up, I'd retire. I should probably make commander incompetence a condition for courtmartial. In fact, I'm going to do just that in BCG by using the state of your crew and ship as the assessment criteria. (/me makes notes in BCG design log).

Captian's log stardate 3010.04.27 After recieving a request from Galcom headquarters to head back to home base for a complete retrofit to give my crew "better quarters" I thought to myself, what an utter waste of time. The Gammulans have been attacking our friendly bases around in the Alpha Majora Sector, and I'm to decommission my ship and crew for a "Luxury" retrofit of my battlecruiser. I think NOT! What I really need is a new Linear Spec IV, not some more off time for my crew.

What are these other captains complaining about, don't they know how to properly manage their ship and crew. Sometimes the beaurocracy, just drives me insane. Oh well, I'll hold out as long as I can. Besides, I can't just leave the Alpha Majora sector with so many problems from the Gammulans right now.

Ouch.

As a work-around for those using Supercarriers and wanting to leave the game running all night long here's a sublte hint:

Throw the extra baggage in the MEDIBAY.

Note to self: Blow fenixfireblade up as soon as I find him on an MP server for giving the SC such a wonderful idea.

That's what I always do... the guys with the lowest health go in Medibay, buy the time everyone else is rested, they get released from medibay to their quarters.

What are we running here a battleship or a luxury hotel!

I have rolled back the code in BCM/BCMG. Because there are workarounds, its not worth invalidating saved games just for taking 40 sys/flight engineers off station.

I have updated the VCF accordingly (and with other entries) and added an entry into the manual revision HTML file with a note about this.

OK Men, the orders for the retrofit have been rescinded so you can stop dreaming about a vacation. I've begged borrowed and stole the credits that I've needed to get that Linear Spec IV upgrade and so we can survive another encounter with the Gammies, and I'm not talking about your Grand Ma's. We need to put in some serious overtime and get that damned thing up and running. The last thing I need is to get caught with my Pants down and my shields at only 50% while the upgrade is being done!

And don't give me any of that rubbish about you needing some sleep, you can sleep when your dead!

You have your orders!

I think we know the first person to get court-martialed in BCG as I described above.

And Actually my ship didn't get that badly damaged by accident, I INTENTIONALLY got into a fight I couldn't possibly win. That game is actually going to be the basis for a BC story I'm working on right now. As I've been playing this game the AI has thrown some interesting situations for me to get out of and I'm making note of this as it happens. Sometimes I also arrange for certain scenarios to take place, giving the story a nudge in a particular direction only to have the AI come up with yet more good ideas and end up going in directions I never would have thought of myself. I've also found runnig around in a little broken down cargo ship writing this stuff to be loads of fun, much more so than plodding along in a super carrier building up funds to buy my next OTS missile.
