i have two fighters with dead pilots and they won't move so i send shuttles to tow them to my CC (or i get them in my CC tractor beam) trouble is i can't get them back into CC to repair/recrew them.

Once when i was trying it said do you want to retrieve and i said yes, BUT i had launch control disabled because of intruders so they weren't retrieved and i was never able to get the retrieve option to display again.

This happened to me once before (before I had patched my game) but what I did was saved the game, restarted, turned on Launch control and everything worked fine.

Heh, well what Darkling said would probably work too. Docking and launching again worked for me. But if you are posting you are obviously not playing so go back and make sure launch control in on and it should work.

Had that happen once to me too - dead pilots.

I put the CC on Auto and told it to hold, then left the CC with my AE and got onboard the fighter and flew it back to the CC myself.

Thats what I LOVE about this game - there is always another option.

That's what I usually do. It all went horribly wrong once - the FC was down to about 15% integrity, and once in it I could do NOTHING. No comms, unable to maneuvre, couldn't even eject! I had to abort the game.

Does anyone know how badly damaged a fighter can be before it becomes unflyable?

It depends what has been damage on the fighter - not necessarily what level of damage.

For example a FC could be on 80% integrity but its engine could be shot to bits making it unflyable.

Alternatively it is theoretically possible that a fighter be 10% integrity but its flight systems be ok(doubtfull but possible)

So there is no set LEVELthat a fighter is unflyable.

Richard, maybe this would work: park your cc as close as possible to the disabled FC, send your AE into it, scroll thru tascan targets until you surmise you are targeting the bc, and then alt-d

I did something similar when I ran out of radine crystals (most systems shut down as a result)- I had a sc tow the cc to "fly to" a station. I scrolled through tascan targets until I surmised (from the range value) that I was targeting the station, and then hit alt-d when I was close enough. It worked. Bought 800 radine... but I forgot that I had to turn my engine back on after Finally remembered after about 20 min of pulling my hair out trying to figure out why all systems were down

I once had about 12% damage to the hull and 88% damage to one of my fighters Nav. Computer. That was enough to render it unflyable. Sent my Shuttle to retrieve it, and replaced the Nav Computer, repaired the hull and it was good again!!
