Supreme Cmdr Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 It has come to my attention that MS removed a codec required by BCM in the clean install of the winXP SP1. For more info, check the video section of the FAQ I will post the entire excerpt here quote: Q. I just bought a new system that came with winXP Service Pack 1 and the game won't play the intro or explosions A. With the September 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft is no longer distributing any version of the Indeo codecs with its operating system. This only affects users with new PCs that are shipping with Windows XP Service Pack 1, or clean installs of Windows XP SP1 on an older system. Installation upgrades of SP1 and the use of Windows Update does not remove existing Indeo codecs from your system. The Indeo v5.10 or later codec is required in order to play AVI files in the game. For more information about this and for info on where to obtain the free legacy Indeo codec (not certified for use with winXP, but which works), go to the Indeo website. Make sure you download the FREE legacy codec, unless you want to pay $15 for the winXP certified version (also at that site). [ 11-20-2002, 11:28 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Guest Remo Williams Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 It appears unless I'm missing something that the free legacy indeo codecs is no longer available. Heres a quote from the indeo site. quote:Free versions of Indeo and the Indeo Codecs Legacy Package for Windows are no longer available from Ligos. Each of the most up-to-date versions of the Indeo Video and Audio codecs, including older legacy versions, are included in Indeo XP, and Indeo XP can be installed on all Windows OSes from Windows 95 to Windows XP.Is there somewhere else anyone knows of that people with new computers running a clean install of XP sp1 or higher can get this legacy codecÔÇÖs for free legally?
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 4, 2003 Author Report Posted March 4, 2003 I must be somewhere on the net. Do a search on google and you'll probably find it. In BCM Gold and BCG, I am no longer using that codec for the AVI files EDIT: I did some digging around and came across this Microsoft KB article # 327979. Try it. If that does not work, try downloading and installing the legacy 5.11 Indeo Codec. You do this at your own risk!! [ 03-04-2003, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
