Heh. The life of a mercenary.

Have you ever been in one of those moments where something comes out of nowhere, changes your whole view on things forever, and takes you to within inches of your life?

Well, this is how it started.

I was doing trade runs in my good ol' Starwarrior (fastest HJ speed in the known galaxy, mind you), when I saw a little skirmish between some Gammulan mercenaries, some police forces, and some Insurgents. I was kinda down on the cash, I decided to go in for some easy kills while everyone was preoccupied, and see what kind of cargo I could pick up. Ruthless, I know, but still; it was getting to the point where I wouldn't be able to refuel the ship anymore.

I'd already had to deal with many many intruders, and had gone through a whole compliment of marines getting killed and having new ones hired. I've already had to get hours worth or repars of the ship done. And replacing a destroyed shuttle. And re-fueling. And etc. Life was a *****.

So, like I was saying, quick profit. I went in, but by that point, the Insurgent capital ships had been destroyed. I decided to just hang around for some fun, and destroy whatever remaining enemy fighters and such were left. I took out about 4 or 5, and decided to head back to the station before heading back to my rounds.

Refueled, bought the goods for the trade, and headed off.

And there it was. RIght by one of the moons of Cyron-IV, in the middle of blank space, was this Insurgent transport ship. Just sitting there. No reason whatsoever. I was like, "okay, whatever, fool," and decided to go grab it for some profit at the station.

Sent out a shuttle to go grab it and deliver it to the station, whilst I waited along in orbit. And then, it hit me.

"There's something out there!"

Yeah. Too late.

An Insurgent Aestrom uncloaked just a handful of kilometers from the ship, and began to open fire. As usual, I left shields and weapons off to reserve fuel. My big flaw.

One by one, systems went down, until even I had to leave the bridge, as it was destroyed. Then the fire stopped. The Aestrom disappeared and left. TacOps was down, Tactical, Logistix, everything. The ship was screwed. Integrity was at 39%. Armor was down to about 300.

Reactor was breached, life support down, radiation everywhere.

I suited up, and jumped out of the ship for a spacewalk. From there, I could access my own TacOps map, and work from there. I ordered the shuttle back to tow my ship, and waited. Hopped in the shuttle, and went about from that point on.

The Aestrom was back in the middle of that battle with the Police and Mercenaries, but I didn't care much. There was a Terran Insurgent Stormcarrier there, which was interesting, but I was too busy to bother with any bounty at this point.

Anyway, moral of the story is never interfere with someoen else's battle. I'm surprised I survived that at all. Beating me to within inches of my life... That was odd, and somewhat humbling. I'll have to think twice about the galaxy now.

(Seriously, I've never ever seen that happen before. In any game. EVAR. But it happened. Either the AI just decided to leave me alone at the point of me being disabled and didn't fire the one last shot needed to kill, or he had other problems to deal with. But OMFG, IT WAS INSANE. YOU WOULD NEVER SEE IT COMING. XD)

Out.

Pretty clever that. I don't think some people remember that the headset of their suit comes with one of those.

Cool story.

Yep, it's the only way to save yourself when everything is gone. And you were lucky to have that shuttle because i don't think you would have been able to launch one with the lack of power.

Nice story BTW.

Imagine something like this in MP... it's gonna be great

Power wouldn't have been a big deal because worse case scenario, he could've shutdown power to everything but the reactor, allocate power to launch control, launch the shuttle and then give power back to critical systems.

And if there was no Radine, then he could've just re-oriented the ship's solar arrays and used the converted solar energy to power launch control.

Lots of possibilities.

Of course... The bridge was kinda destroyed, so... I kinda wouldn't be able to control the ship to re-orient it, taken the fact I wouldn't be able to get on station. It was a mess.

You don't need the bridge to orient the ship. Go to an external camera view and by looking at the ship lighting, you can figure out how to turn it. Remember, you can still control the ship from any ext camera view using the numeric keypad.

  1. SNG as commander career
  2. Launch, then quit to OS
  3. Open up console and use Playmod as follows

    code:

    playmod damage deck1 0 100

    playmod damage deck1 1 100

  4. Resume game

The above totally destroys the bridge and the bridgeviewer. 0 is the bridge and 1 is the bridgeviewer. You can destroy one or the other or both.

Interesting.. I encountered almost the same situation.

I was commandering a Astrom Carrier ear Xylan*SP*

a Fierce better between Galcom and Insurgent forces, I decided to jump in and help, the battle lasted for about 10 or 15 minutes... there was A LOT of cargo pods laying around so while I was upgrading my armor *I was upgrading armor while in battel to* I launched two shuttles and 8 fighters to help defend this area, All of a I hear Theres something out there TO LATE! 2! Astrom carriers decloak, one on my port side, another on my starboard side, My PTA system fired on the new threat but it was already to late. I got pounded by dozens of torps *if I can call them that* and beam fire, My fighters took out one carrier but I was crilped. The other Galcom ships FINIALY! steped in and took the last carrier

Tacops was 0%

TroopsQTR was 0%

Reactor Brech but thanks to my Eng he shut it down

Bridge was down to 12%

I had some prisoners on board but umm they all died.

Most of my ship was gone, Only the Bridge, Hanger, FC Bay 1 - FC Bay 8, Engine Room, and my engines where what was still left, most of it was below 50%

lost one shuttle. *It had my Research Officer on board =_(* I had lost 2 fighters.

Moral of this story, Never get involved with someone elses fight and then grab cargo pods and have half shields powered up along with having armor upgraded

I swear I'll never make that mistake again!!!
