Postcards from the edge

Earlier today while I was testing mining drone ops, I took the crew out for some R&R. Of course, I left Kendrick behind to keep an eye on things.

I bet most of you haven't seen some of the amazing vistas in the game. But mzone earth14 is my favorite area.

Below are some shots I took. Basically I had a shuttle landed closeby, after deploying the drone. Then I shoved everyone into the transporter and pushed the button.

Cool thing was we deployed before the shuttle came over and as it landed, we could see it from our vantage point.

After we'd finished training (we did try to lose Resnig, but that didn't work), I designated the shuttle as my target, then selected each of the crew and ordered them (using the TOM) to dock with the shuttle. I then changed the shuttle's orders from LAND to RTB and it took off. Since I had two fighters on escort, they followed it back to space.

Once they'd egressed, I accessed Tacops, selected myself for evac and returned to the CC.

If you have some postcards, be sure to post them. No space shots please, planets are more interesting.

Has anyome ever created say a sightseeing list or guide to the galaxy? For instance I only sought out New America Base becuase I noticed it in a screenshot and said...hey where the heck is that?

This post cards thread made me think that a great places to visit document would be awesome.

Just a thought, inspired by those SC shots.

hehe, I decided to have a little fun today, I transported the entire crew of my Firestorm to a remote location on earth(SFM's are loyal to the end, forgot about em too until after they transported to the surface and died) and then landed the ship. Let me tell you having nearly 115 character models in the same place at the same time with my carrier landing behind them was pretty impressive at killing my framerate. I'm pretty sure the three intruders still on board are wondering what happened to everyone by now, though when I last looked they were only just starting to venture outside of shuttle 3... oh well not to see how they react to my saluting and other antics

I'm beginning to think my crew is wondering what kind of crackbrained idiot is running the ship with the way they all stare at me when I run around the ranks all out there in the woods.

Well, until my Angelfire site went down (due to unactivity), it was four standard snapshots converted to JPEG (at 100%) and stitched together using PhotoStitch. Since they closed the site, though, the link won't be any good.

Now I gotta figure something new.

Thanks for the offer, Grizzle. Turns out a Commander in Prime Fleet steered me to a really good place for storing pix. I'll be updating my avatar and profile shot today.

Gotta love that Prime Fleet.

I have been having some fun stealing aircrafts and ships from the naval groups. I am going to see if I can get some NPC's to enter a blackghost and then go tow it and turn it upside down to see if anyone falls out...

So I was hoping to drop the blackghost and watch it bounce on the deck of the carrier, but as soon as I turn on my shields to break the tractor beam, they instantly hit sea floor. There are 2 aircraft on the bottom of the sea, and one is only showing the roof so it gives a nice effect of an "old wreck".

I was originally trying to recreate a scene from close encounters, I wanted to tow a carrier and drop it in the middle of the dessert. I guess there is either a weight limit to what you can tow, or some objects are simply not allowed to be towed.

If there is an easy way to edit an ini file let me know as I still wish to recreate the CCOTK scene that I described.

I towed a scape worthy ship and when I dropped it, it gracefully floats do to the sea surface, so the game treats the objects different over water.

This was my first attempt at messing around with these screen shots.

More fun:

Now I know this is a space shot but look at it any you'll see why it still has something to do with ground stuff:

some funny observations:

I towed this helo off the planet. Right after coming into space again, I put up my shields and the helo started to just float off on its own at about speed of 20.

Then I towed it again and hyperspaced to Galcom HQ. I love how what you are towing stays behind until you finish your HD trip and then like a big rubberband.....stretchhhhhhhhh wam! its right next to you again, so then I raise sheilds and break the tow....3...2...1 booom the helo explodes.

I just love the contract in scale when you bring your cruiser/carrier planetside. What this shot doesn't tell you is that while parked like this, the ship actual and slowly rocked like a seesaw back and forth...so cool.

I think I will continue to try the un-expected shots as long as folks are still interested.

So, me and the dudes went to Spring Break on Treas, and there were these two chicks who I thought were digging me and my sweet ride. Unfortunately, when I got a little closer, they seemed a little defensive (although I think the one in the Galcom T-Shirt was kinda into me). Anyway, I took the hint and decided to go hit on the honeys sunbathing nearby instead.

All in all, it was worth the radiation poisoning.

Anyway, just wanted to say TRAMIS HIGH SCHOOL GRAVBALL RULES!!!!

Actually its a camera illusion. You are the one bobbing up/down. That naval carrier is not moving. You took that shot in between frames it looks like.

SC: "Actually its a camera illusion. You are the one bobbing up/down. That naval carrier is not moving. You took that shot in between frames it looks like."

Not sure if you are reffering to when I landed on the peak? that's when I got the "see-saw" effect, which was absolutely outstanding, it was the right physics for that scene, but it you are reffering to the naval craft sitting ontop of me...read here:

The way it happened: I was lowering myself over the carrier, I wanted to make it look like I landed on it's deck ...I got too close and suddenly was underwater on the sea floor, and then I started to ascend when I touched the carrier from underneath it, it "bounced" way up in the air, and then it slowly floated down until you see the it coming to rest over the nose of my ship..." whatever the reason...it was pretty darn cool!! This is what I love about this "game" just being able to tool around and do stuff!!

Next time I am going to try to deploy some of my troops to the deck of the carrier first.

I have some questions about towing and what happened in different circumstances, and I'll post that later in newbies. I have some interesting observations.
