OK, on the products page for UC, Mr.Smart has determined three types of system requirements:

Minimum Requirements

Recommended Requirements

Ultimate Requirements

Now being a gamer, I've always understood that having the Minimum requirements would mean one would lose some of the cool features of the game. The Recommended however, would be the suggest requirements to allow the game to run in full.

Now what is this "Ultimate Requirements" all about for UC???

Will I have all the cool features of UC if I only have minimum of the recommended??? I'm just confused here?

Someone help me here...

It would be nice if you had your system listed. Most likely the UR (Ultimate Requirements) is if you are going to run as dedicated server for Multiplayer.

So recommended would be what the majority of us here would fall under.

Well, I guess it would help if I did have my system specs posted but unfortunately I donÔÇÖt have my OWN computer at the moment. I basically use my roommates PC and the campus computers at my university. In the next couple of weeks however, I'll be in the market for a new computer. I'm just trying to find out what sort of PC I should get so I can play UC.

If the recommended requirements is able to run UC to its full potential, with ALL of the features and excellent framerate, then it'll be easier on my wallet when I go to my computer dealer.

So if youÔÇÖre right, about the ultimate requirements, I should have nothing to worry about... Thanks for the reply LostInSpace!

I suppose "Ultimate Requirements" means that with them, you will experience absolutely NO slowdowns, whatever the situation on the screen is. If 20 battlecruisers with over a hundred fighters would be in a firefight at which you're looking, and half of them instantly exploded, you would still run at at least 35-40 FPS. That's my impression.

recommended requirements are meant to tell you what kind of hardware you should need to have a decent speed in most (90%) situations. However to bear with large fleet battles, heavy planetary activity or whatnot (which are usually not common), you will need ultimate requirements to reach 20 or more fps.

dedicated server specs are not the same! those are strickly client-side requirements!

Alright, then give me an example of what a large fleet battle would be. How many ships? 10? 20? 30?

Also, how many ships could I handle if I only had the precise recommend requirements?

Thanx for your replies so far people!!!

Keep em comin!!

It's hard to say how any computer react with any given number of ships on the screen at one time. There are tons of variables that go way beyond your memory, processor, and video card. Ultimate requirements is a computer that most people only can dream of. My example of an ultimate requirement computer would be an Alienware computer that costs around $5,000. That system would cause the lights in your house to dim when you turned it on and you'd probably have to get a nuclear reactor installed under your house.

If you only spend $3,000 on your computer, your probably in the recommend requirements bracket.

If you spent $3,000 on your computer, 2 years ago, your probably in the minimum requirements bracket.

Anything other than that and your on your own...

There is likely no system on planet Earth that would encounter *no slowdowns* in even BCM or BCG let alone UC.

Even with much of the graphics load being shifted to the GPU the Raw number of Objects being rendered, Tracked, and Controled are going to Crush any system.

I would wager that ultimate simply means the best possible experience with the full feature set at a high resolution. Recomended means you can play the game the way it was designed at a decent clip. Minimum would mean it will play but likely be a slide show at times even playing at low resolutions and lowest in game feature set.

Take me for example

I just bought a brand new computer.

P4 3.2 800mhz FSB HT

Abit IC7-G Maxx II

1 Gig Corsair DDR 400

Radeon 9800XT 256

40GB Raptor SATA drive (for OS)

120GB SATA Drive (for games)

Thats what Ill be playing UC on

RAM!

UC seems to only require (for ultimate req's) to require 512mb's of ram... Why is this? is there very little AI scripting or does the game not load all the sound effects into ram?

Will UC make use of more ram if there's more avilable to it?

Or did I just get used to the resource hog that is planetside?

For the record, Planetside is still a resource hog.

But to answer your question, my guess, is that the SC has optimized the code of the game to allow it to require less memory. He will be able to better answer this question better than I though of course...

I use demand loading so the game has a very small memory footprint. But the more system RAM you have, the better. A fast HDD also helps.
