Can someone tell me how to change the fonts in BCMG? I followed the directions in the Troubleshooting FAQ, but no matter what I do the old fonts still load up. Here's what I've done:

1) Edited bcconfig.ini to read:

BCFEFontName=vibrocen

;arial

BCFEFontSize=8

BCFEFontFlags=0

BCKFontName1=fedn

;microgbe

BCKFontName2=nasaliza

;arial

2) Made sure the font filenames are correct and fonts are properly installed in Windows

3) Tried copying the font files to the /data directory

4) Tried it with .ttf extension, without .ttf extension, capitalized, and uncapitalized (the original filenames are capitalized and yes, they are TT fonts).

Which fonts are you trying to change?

If you are trying to change the fonts in the Frontend screens (Tactical, Logistix etc), the steps are in the FAQ.

If you are trying to change the fonts in the HUD systems, you can't. The only way you can do this is to rename the font in the DATA folder to something else, then name your new font to that name and install it in control panel.

Hmm. Something's just not following orders and I don't quite know why. Oh well. I got the HUD font to change so I'll leave it at that. The Frontend fonts never changed doing it the FAQ way.

Here's what the FAQ says to do:

quote:

Q. THESE FONTS SUCK!! HOW DO I REPLACE THEM? A. BCM uses different types of fonts at various areas. You can change them by editing the BCMCONFIG.INI file directly. The kernel fonts are those used in the 3D game world. The frontend fonts are those used in screens such as Logistix etc. Just enter the name of the font you'd like to use and save the file. To revert to the BCM defaults, remove those lines from the file the use the fonts applet in control panel to install the font located in the DATA folder where BCM is installed.

I've done all this. Either I'm missing something obvious, or it just doesn't work the way it's supposed to. But either way, it's not important. The Frontend fonts are fine, as far as I'm concerned. It was the HUD font I wanted to change, and I've got it changed now. Thanks for the help.

Hehe. My mouth is really starting to water for multi now that I'm getting a handle on the game. I'm actually making money now and killing stuff and managing my crew right, so I don't feel quite as helpless as I did at first. 'Course, I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't driving a carrier. I haven't figured out yet how people survive as scientists or traders...

What did you change it to, btw?

Thats odd. Maybe I ended up hardcoding them at some point. I'll look into it later.

heh, neither do I. But trust me, there are a few crazies out there who are probably going to be running around on servers as traders.

I think the key word there is running.

Hehe. I was so happy that it finally changed that I didn't notice until later it didn't change to the font I wanted. I think it must default to courier if it can't find microgbe, because it's using courier or a courier-type font now. Which is ok. It's still easier to read.

The one I wanted to use is called Federation (FEDN.TTF). It's just a freebie I picked up somewhere. Might be Star Trek related, but I don't know. I'm not into Star Trek.

I did change some of the HUD graphics last night to get rid of a lot of those orange icons. The ones that display the actual asset involved, such as the command craft and fighter icons, I left as is, but the rest I changed to plain text. It just looks neater and more modern to me, and they're easier to interpret to boot. The only problem is I don't know how to do the masking, so instead of having transparent backgrounds, they now have black backgrounds. But I can live with that.

Oh, trust me. I'm under no illusions that I'm any good. There's obviously way more going on in the game than I can master in a week. I'm just celebrating the fact that I can do more than press the accelerator and steer now

Last night I was orbiting a moon while my drones mined away, thinking I was all cool and everything. Then some cloaked bastage snuck up behind me and blasted me to kingdom come. Several hours of gameplay went up in smoke, but man, was I impressed. A human player couldn't have done it any better.

I am probably going to change that font anyway in BCG. And I'm going to look into why replacing that font doesn't work in the main game. It should.

They're going to be removd in BCG and am going to use just text. Even the asset icons are gone. I'm going back to the BC3K roots (which used text for stuff like that).
