pkkane Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I am in control (partially) of a Firestorm supercarrier and playing the campaign as Terran Military. My first mission is to guard a terran diplomat transport from earth to Alpha Majora. My first idea was to send three fighters off to defend the diplomat, then follow with the CC. However around Arima the three fighters id then, to their destruction, chase down some hostile target. I have to tell them to jump onto the next jump point and then hope the diplomat makes it there. Or should I be playing this mission in first person mode and use my dogfighting skills. Also if a fighter is given defend orders, will it then follow a target through as many jumps as its fuel lasts. I seem to have to continually have to reaquire the target manually. Else I wait, sometimes without success for the fighter to reaquire the target. Please help this newbie.
Eclipse Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Well If I remember right Arima is MUL/RAI Tulon, hense they jump to the station or ODS and get blown away. Giving them a defend mission should keep them from doing that. It has been quite some time since I played through that one and when I did I would always launch a shuttle to tow the diplomat and drag him to Majora. I seem to remember that this isn't allowed anymore but I'll have to try it to be sure.

Shuttles towing a CC travel at ~550 instead of their usual 2000+ (Hey, what is the speed rating, MPS? I never can remember.) Peter, do a forum search on Diplomat1 and you'll be amazed at all the help you'll find.
Guest MIKE113 Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I would be willing to bet that happened to everyone who sent their fghters out with Escort orders! Yes, me too! Defend works better, but learn to Micromanage everything.

pkkane Posted June 1, 2003 Author Report Posted June 1, 2003 Thanks for the help Eclipse,Tyrn and MIKE113. Finally decided to send my AE into FK1 with scorpion as my copilot and did the escort myself with CC on autopilot to Majoris. Worked OK. Still find that the defend order does not work in keeping fighters from attacking hostile starbases miles away from the defend target?

When I scripted that mission, thats one of the methods I used to testit actually. quote:Still find that the defend order does not work in keeping fighters from attacking hostile starbases miles away from the defend target? If you read the manual, you will see the difference between the ESCORT and DEFEND orders. They are different.
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Peter Kane, you are only allowed to have a single profile. I have no idea why you registered twice and with two different aliases. So, guess what? I've deleted both of them. Now you have to re-register.
Numskll Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 how do you get a shuttle that is towing the diplomat to go to majoris or anywhere outside of the shuttles immediate area for that matter? I've been 'playing' this mission off and on for two weeks with little or no success
Eclipse Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 you should be able to give the shuttle a jump at order.
