Replacing Support Crafts

hey everyone,

two things happened that im wondering about

First I landed on earth in my cc deciding to kick some insurgent ass so i launced my fighters with me in fc1, and made a waypoint for the insurgent base for just fc1, then i told fc2 3 and 4 to escort fc1 (me). I gave it the order to fly to the wp and put it on the green autopilot. I had fc3 in the video display and i saw its armor go down without its sheilds, so it ran into something, then the same thing happened to every fighter except mine and they all blew up. I know the terrain folling and avoidince system is not 100% fail safe, but my fc never hit the ground once. Any ideas how to avoid this?

Second

As a result of this i wanted to replace my fc 2, 3, and 4 so i bought fc assets from tradcom and nothing happened. I looked in logistix and tactical and there was no option to repair replace or upgrade the fcs. I couldent find anything about this in the manual or appendix.
